Don't buy one of these
As with the other reviewers, I bought the vac about a year ago. The battery won't hold a charge anymore. I should have stuck with my gut and not bought the one pushed by the Godfrey's salesman. Now I need to find a replacement battery or buy a new one.

Problem Solved
After years of searching for a mini hand vacuum cleaner with a very thin crevice tool to clean out my extremely narrow sliding door tracks Godfreys at Firle Plaza actually used a hot torch to custom narrow the existing crevice tool to fit. Black & Decker stopped making the existing one I used & no other hand vacuums existed anywhere. When the salesman at Godfreys saw my frustration, he worked out a way to make it fit. Using a hot blow torch he melted the tool (slightly) & squeezed it to narrow it. I am so happy with the service I will be recommending them to everyone I know. It now fits beautifully with more suction than ever before with the old B&D one. Service like this just doesn't exist anymore!

Love this product. Use it daily.
This is an extremely useful product especially for minor spills and children's scraps after meals and snack times. It handles broken glass, crumbs, window grooves and for quick clean ups. Additional attachments improve its effectiveness especially cleaning up wet spills and the small brush attachment for hard surfaces.

Handy for small clean ups
It is light and easy to use, but feel that the suction is not as strong as it claimed.
it is noisy for its size and the battery life is too short, so recharging often is required.
The price matched what I had paid for and would recommend it for quick short clean ups.

GREAT VACUUM - VERY GOOD BATTERY. But very poor charger ** Easy to hack **
This was a freebee, which was part of a Godfreys package.
This performed REALLY REALLY well for over 18 months.
Then, like many other reviewers, my battery gradually started dying.
Eventually would run for 30 seconds max.
Looking at the charger capacity, this is only 150mA @ 18V.
I haven't measured the ACTUAL charging current, but the no load output at the docking contacts was 34V.
This is essentially a trickle charger.
But the Ni-Cad battery capacity is 1,300mA. ...Read more
This pack is not been charged fully, due to an under-rated charger. THEORETICALLY, A "WELL MAINTAINED" NICAD BATTERY WILL LAST FOR ABOUT 500 CHARGE/DISCHARGE CYCLES. If charged fully once a week, this is about 9.5 years. To investigate the poor battery life, I removed the 12-cell pack and cut off the protective cover & peeled off the heavy insulation protection layers. All cells were about 1.1V. There were no faulty [shorted cells]. THIS IS AN INDICATION OF A VERY GOOD QUALITY BATTERY PACK, after 2 years of very light charging. This is contrary to the opinion of other reviewers who are unfairly "blaming the battery pack". To a non-technical person though, this is a very fair comment to make, of course. To provide an occasional boost from a higher capacity charger, WITHOUT having to pass a higher current through the docking station contacts, I dismantled the vacuum completely. Then drilled a 6.5mm hole in the body. I then wired up a chassis-mount RCA phone socket with heavy gauge red and black wires. I passed this through the hole & mounted securely. Then I connected these 2 wires together with the vacuum's battery charging wires. Finally, I connected the battery to the new DOUBLE-FEED charging cables . To fully charge via the hard-wired feed, I soldered-up a new RCA plug with heavy R&B wires, & connected to a higher power 5A battery charger. The pack drew 2.6 Amps! - I ran at this current for 30 minutes, then reduced the current to 1 Amps for another hour, to bring the battery fully back to life. After 90 minutes, the pack voltage was 16.5V. I checked every cell. All were about 1.37 volts. PERFECT! I turned on the still dismantled vacuum. WORKED PERFECTLY, as I expected. Finally, reassembled the vacuum & re-installed the battery. This was a bit harder to re-install because of the 2 new, thick charging wires, as I expected. Re-tested the vacuum with bag connected - Performed as if BRAND NEW!. I can now use the 150mA trickle charger on an ongoing basis, to make sure the battery is semi-topped up, after use. But, every week or so, I'll give a boost charge for 60 minutes at approx 1.5A, to ensure the cells are fully charged. I now expect this vacuum to LAST ANOTHER 9-12 YEARS before the battery will begin to deteriorate. Since we can't post photos, my "now nerdy" profile pic is the dismantled vacuum without battery. Left side has the RCA socket & 2 heavy wires, joining up in the middle, with the thinner original wiring from the right side containing the motor etc... This hack is quite simple, but MUST be performed by a qualified person, since rechargeable batteries can be quite dangerous & EVEN EXPLODE, if mishandled, or shorted. They can also EXPLODE or have their life shortened to less than 500 cycles, if overcharged using a NON-MANUFACTURER APPROVED charger. For my hack, I now limit the charging current to 1.6 Amps maximum. And I limit the charging time to 1 hour, using a mechanical timer on the mains input, feeding the charger. At these conditions, the battery will reach approx 45 degrees CSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
DONT BUY ONE!
Worked fine for about two months, with limited use, and then over the next month the battery slowly died until it wouldn't even start at all. Total waste of money, can't get a replacement battery, and Godfreys Noosaville where I bought it didn't want to know about it. I see from the other reviews that the battery was the main problem, Hoover needs to do something about it!

Very poor battery life!
Bought this item a couple of years ago and within 18 months the battery was showing signs of deterioration to the point now where I have to leave it and the charger switched on all the time. When I go to use it, the battery lasts for about 1 minute. My previous hand held vac lasted for at least 10 years and was discontinued when I went to replace it, so ended up with the Hoover - big mistake. Wish I had looked up Product Review before purchasing.

Battery is Terrible, But..
My Battery Died within a year as well. I read about a trick on the internet where you can spark a NiMH Battery with a Car Battery Charger. positive to positive, neg to neg. I took the battery out of the HandiVac. Sparked the leads a few times with the battery charger. Doing this has made the battery charge again.

Battery is terrible
This vac worked ok as a hand vac at the start, although it was not good enough to do the car floor satisfactorily. The battery performance over time is terrible and a real disappointment. Mine does not even turn on anymore. A waste of money in many ways. Avoid it!

Good for the jobs it was made for.
Had no issues with its performance for 2-3 years. Now battery wont hold a charge which is a bit disappointing but found a replacement battery for around $40. Will install myself as Godfreys quoted $70 and had to be sent away. Does what it was made for and will have to watch the recharging in the future. Just another add. Sourced a new battery in Granville NSW. $46 installed myself. Works like new.

Good When The Battery Is Ok.
Good for the first six months then the battery life drops from 15 minutes to 5 minutes. We used to use it for a quick clean of two bedrooms with tile floor but now it can't even finish one. We understand the battery life will be shorten after a period of time but 6 months is just not reasonable.
Not recommended. Thanks.

Mighty Machine
I purchased this Item about 6 months ago and having used it many times since then, it is now time to give my opinion. I've Purchased various Brand and Models of Hand Held Vacs over the years but, I have found that this one has been the very best of them so far. It has an amazing amount of power and can be used for a lot longer single use, (before needing to re-charge) than anything before it. Due to extensive Health problems and being unable to manage my Housework a lot of the time, this mighty machine is a saviour in between times when I just...Read more

sts for ages and ages. I do not work for Hoover or anyone else as I am a Disabled Pensioner, nor do I work for Godfreys in fact, I purchased my Hoover from Bunnings at Oxenford, on the Gold Coast. It's due to my Health problems that I Purchased this item in the first place so that I may be able to 'whip it around' and get any problem areas cleaned up. I'm sorry "Ultrapac" but checking your Information against my own, you are commenting on a totally different Product to mine. Mine is Model: HH5220 whereas yours is: HH5010WD a totally different Model No: altogether. I am a believer in giving credit where credit is due but I will also go the other way if I find a Product or Service (which I don't believe lives up to it's promise or expected work Ethics). I do hope that this has cleared things up for those people who check out this Review. GaelSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Waste of money
Extremely disappointed with this product. Right from day 1 the battery struggled to last more than 5 minutes. Performance is reasonable for what it is designed to do but it is very frustrating that you can't complete even very small jobs without long breaks to recharge. I have found it much quicker to get out your normal Vac and do the job in one hit. Cost of a replacement battery is half the price of the machine with no guarantee that it will preform any better. I would class this as a waste of $99.

It's a lot of money for a months work
The battery started to give out after maybe a month. Worked ok up until then. Now, won't even hold a charge for a minute. On the bright side, it looks like new. Nice Design. Atrocious Battery. The one person who seemed to like this product either works for Hoover, Godfreys or is thinking about a different product.

Battery is crap
the item runs out of battery before I have even had a breath. I am lucky if I actually pick up anything. I replaced an old one for the same reason and this is still no better. Would never buy another one and very unhappy. A waste of money and I'm not happy Jan.

Poor battery life
I am happy with the performance of the unit, but not with the running life of the battery. Being ni-Cd, I know they need to be fully discharged and cycled periodically to prolong their useful life, but unfortunately this battery pack has been disappointing from the start. it is more economical to buy another vacuum than replace the battery pack.

Battery Runs Out Fast
People here are saying it does what its meant to do blahh blahh. HOWEVER that's not completely true. Yes it sucks fairly well, yes its portable, yes it's easy to use... HOWEVER I have tried for months to get the 15 minutes of working suction I was promised by the shop that sold me it. I get 7 mins max and the batteries are flat. For a quick clean up after your kid has spilt their crumbs on the floor or to quickly vacuum the stairs... Ok. For cleaning inside the car, which is minimum a 10 min job, it does not fit the bill. The battery lasts half the time claimed by Hoover, therefore I feel it does not do what Hoover promises.... Very annoying. Given the chance again I would not buy this product.

I repeat what others have said before, it does what it meant to do, period.
We needed a portable vacuum cleaner, I was looking at the reviews and as usual people kept confusing with few of them quoting its a waste of money, while others said it does what its supposed to. I have used it for more than a month now and I am satisfied with the product. As of the people giving really bad rating, most of them in my opinion are people who never maintain their product or someone who doesn't read the manual not even once or got a faulty product by chance,If you fall under the above category please don't write a review its confusi...Read more
ng people out here. This is vacuum cleaner portable. I did notice a little repelling force so I am giving it 4 star. Is it worth the money yes its is. If you don't maintain be it your comb or your car you directly minimising its life and your not doing yourself a favor. It's value for money.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
HooveriVac.14.4V
Disappointed with the quality, not what was expected from a Hoover Product. Pick quality very poor and the
time between charging very poor indeed. Now useless as it will not charge at all, have taken it back to Belrose Super Centre - Godfrey not much help there. Could send it back if necessary but it will cost me half the price of the cleaner as I cannot renew the batter that it needs to charge it. Surely in this day and age if a battery is necessary beside having to recharge by electricity one should be able to replace the battery onesel...Read more

Does exactly what it is designed to do
Can't fault the vacuum for what it is, a hand vacuum for spot cleanup. The window attachment is really good and I was pleasantly surprised how well it worked. Powerful unit for a hand held, excellent power. Great range of attachments and the filtration is good. Holds a great charge.
November 11th 2014 Update:
Tip- Remove the first stage small filter. It is not needed as dust etc will be caught by the larger 2nd stage filter. The larger filter has a greater surface area and does not reduce the suction of the unit. Makes a big difference.
Great power, long lasting charge, great range of attachments

where can i buy the bettery to replace ln new zealand auckland

Hi Paul, I found the following Battery on Ebay (Australia) http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Battery-For-Hoover-14-4V-HH5010WD-HandiVac-Wet-Dry-Handheld-Vacuum-Cleaner-OZ-/151370857625. They want $63 for it and personally I wouldn't spend that money on a battery for that item. You may be able to buy one of Ebay NZ??
Other than Ebay I would have no idea where to buy the battery.
Jill
Hi Paul, the only place I found is eBay but I think it doesn't worth it. I bought a Dyson v6 instead for $300, using it for 18 months and it works flawless.
Dods-Brooksasked
Can one buy the heap filter and where?
1 answer
Hi Dods-Brooks I'm so sorry for the delay in replying but you would not believe the last couple of months I've had. I'm unable to answer your question because as yet I haven't needed to replace anything on my HandiVac. I take it that you have been back to your point of purchase? Perhaps go online and check out the Website for addresses for replacement parts etc.
I must reiterate though, that it has to be one of the best little HandiVacs I've ever purchased and the power has not diminished one little bit since owning it. A little hint for people - With my HandiVac and my normal household Vacuum Cleaner, I always put some of my Body Shop, White Musk Oil Perfume on my filters so that as I vacuum, I also get a nice fresh smell left behind. Once again, I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help.
