Vacuum Cleaners Buying Guide
Our buying guide will explain which type of vacuum cleaner would suit you most, how much you can expect to pay for one, and which features are worth looking out for.
Regret buying this machine
I purchased this machine from Godfreys about two months ago. It's suction is average to okay. The cord is shorter than my previous machine, and so I have to use an extension cord. The tube falls out of the handle easily, also the head will occasionally fall off the hose during use. However, the worst thing is having to clean the container every time I use it. I have had bagless vacuum cleaners before and had to clean filters on a regular basis, but this one pretty much needs intensive cleaning every time! The cone needs pulling out every time y...Read more
ou vacuum, and dust and dirt needs to be physically removed from this part. The foam filter ideally should be washed every use, (or perhaps every second use). You can wash the entire container also, but must ensure it's dry before reassembling. Oh, and did I mention another filter that cannot be cleaned - you have to buy a new one every six months. What a fool I was to buy into this drama! When I finally finish the whole cleaning process I feel like I need a shower. If you've never used a good bagless vacuum before, it's enough to put you off bagless cleaners for life. I will never buy Hoover again, and never from Godfreys again.Similar opinion? Always blocked and looses suction
The hose has a wire running up inside that means it always gets blocked. Air escapes out of the telescopic handle meaning a loss of suction resulting in it not even being able to suck up small bits of paper, wrapping and fluff. It also has long hard plastic parts to the hose that make it difficult to release the obstruction. All in all making it the worst and most expensive vacuum I have ever bought.

Worst vacuum cleaner I've ever had
This vacuum cleaner has minimal suction even when the filters are clean. I hate it so much! To clean the carpets I have to take off the metal hose and just put the cleaning head onto the flexible hose and then get on my hands and knees to vacuum the carpet! At 66 years old this is not fun! Luckily my main living area is tiles! Will be replacing when I can afford it.

Too complicated!
Great when you first use it, then it seems to stop working. There are three filters which you need to clean after every use, which when you get wet screws up the whole machine. We though after 3 months that it was the filters which stopped the sucking, but in an actual fact it is the curved plastic tube where the vent is. Dust, hair, and stones get clogged easily in it which causes the sucking to stop. So, when we used a hanger and put it down the tube, we pulled out big bundles of dust and hair. Don't go and spend $29 on a new filter without checking that first.

Amazing after 5+ years!
I wanted to write this review as I know that it isn't often enough that when people love something they review it online. This can sometimes sway people against buying it. This vacuum is honestly awesome. I bought this vacuum nearly six years ago and it has lived in and cleaned 4 different houses in that time. We have two dogs and it picks up every single hair, every time, no problem. The bags are super cheap to replace as well, but even when the bag is nearly full the vacuum doesn't lose any suction! I'm honestly blown away by how well this va...Read more
cuum works; I was going to buy a Dyson at the time, but due to funds bought this one and thought at $250 if it lastest a couple of years I'd be stoked. Now nearly 6 years later, it works just as perfectly as ever! Cannot recommend this enough!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Most pathetic vacuum around
Minimal suction, have to empty out filter about 3 times each time I vacuum our tiny house. Have had to replace filter several times throughout the past year. Went into Godfreys Hoppers Crossing with a different product in mind and was very strongly recommended this one by the staff member. Worst buy I have ever made. What a piece of junk!

hate it
I purchaes the Hoover "Smart" bagless just over 2 yrs ago- and I know that no-one enjoys vacuuming but this makes me enjoy the weekly task of vacuuming even less. So much so that I avoid using this machine until I absolutley have to! It is useless. It has no suction or very little - even after I clean the canister and the filters. I returned it to Godfreys a year after I bought it and the man quite rudely told me to go home and the clean the filters!! I feel like someting is stuck in the hose - I have tried my best to clean that out but to no a...Read more

Review one year on.
This is the bagless version. I have had this machine for over a year now.
Pros:
Good suction.
A decent long hose and handle, good for tall people.
Cons:
The dirt chamber is too small by half.
The turbo brush clogs up too easily and stops working after a while. A small pebble will jam the mechanism, although it is fairly easy to open up the brush and remove the obstruction.
Removing and cleaning the filters is a requirement to keep the suction up. But I knew that already.

Hopeless. Avoid this product
Bought for my daughter a year ago so is a bit old. Am cleaning her house - 1st time I have used it. Absolutely hopeless. Yes Godfreys really pushed this product when I bought it.. Would have returned it if I had known but daughter too polite to tell me. Will not purchase from Godfreys again

Do not buy
Godfrey's in Parkdale really pushed the product and the description sounded good but it really does not clean the carpet well. I have to go over the same spot several times. It really just does a surface clean at best.

Hoover Smart Bagged
Recently purchased a bagged Hoover Smart, my complaint is that where the nozzle goes into the metal part there is no clip to hold it in and after using for a while it just slips out!!! Why no locking in device ?????? It would make things so much easier and quicker if i didn't have to keep stopping and pushing it back in !!

Needs regular cleaning but great suction
I have had this bagless vacuum for nearly 2 years and it still works perfectly. The filter does need regular cleaning and if you have pets you need to empty the cone at least once during use. It fills up quickly. But for a vacuum that still has great suction for such a small price, I am so impressed. I will definitely buy another one when the time comes.
Inexpensive, great suction, easy maneuverability
Needs very regular cleaning

Bagless version is junk
Please don't confuse this bagless machine with the bagged version of the Hoover Smart. The Bagless version is a shocker, requires constant cleaning, always blocks at the cone filter, HEPA filters always fill with dust, noisy, runs very hot and the hot air blows up at you as you vacuum....the bagged version is a solid machine for the price and has none of the same issues, was very happy I changed from the bagless to the bagged..
nothing good about the Bagless
blocks easily, maintainence is the big issue

good for the price
We didnt want to spend too much money on Dyson. Salesman recommended us mid range hoover bag vaccum cleaner with its turbo head. Its almost 2 years suction is still pretty good. Need to change the bag regularly as it could decrease the suction. I use the acessory for my car, does the decent job cleaning it. Turbo head is ok for cleaning but very hard to clean the turbo head as hair gets entangled in the roll brush, its a nightmare cleaning it.Original Hoover head is not worth it. the need to modify the design to have a handle for carryng it. Overall happy with it.
good for midrange cost vaccum cleaner. Does descent job
Turbo brush definitely needs modification in desgn as its a night mare to clean it. No handle for carrying.

Didn't last
It has very small capacity and like other reviewers I found the suction reduced despite cleaning and replacing the two filters. Apparently the dust gets into the motor and this is what wrecks them. If you are looking at this cleaner, I recommend you get the bag version, or like me, invest in a decent vacuum.
inexpensive, easy to store
lost suction, tiny capacity, flogged out after 18mths

This HOOVER Is a HOOTER
Hi. This little vacuum cleaner is a hooter. Initially I thought it was a pile of junk, you just have to get to know how to clean the insides, there are 3 things to clean. 1. empty contents, 2. remove dust from foam filters and 3. remove conical plastic filter that traps heavier dirt / debris. It took me ages to discover this third one. My bad. In fact, we live on a dirt road and this Hoover sucks up so much fine dust, compared to our last vac I didn't realise how inefficient the other one was. Just have to clean foam filters more often.
Strong motor. Light. Cheap
Needs regular cleaning / emptying.

't suck. I have been told that because of the design the dust gets into the motor and it ruins them. If you are looking at this cleaner I recommend you get the bag version if you want it to last the distance.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Waste of money!
Agree with all the other terrible reviews. Can't get through vacuuming two rooms before losing all suction and needing to clean out the entire thing. I am a clean person and I like things clean and I don't mind cleaning at all but this thing is ridiculous. You have to open the chamber to release the main dust and then manually remove the cone and manually unwind and pull off anything wrapped around it, then remove the foam and manually pick off the dust and bang it outside to clean (because even if I wash it after every use I still have to d...Read more
o this process at least twice during each use). Then put the foam and cone back (tricky). When you have done this several times and managed to finished you vacuuming (usually still having to manually feed stuff into it due to lack of suction even after this process, you then have to do the whole cleaning process again and wash out the piece of foam and dry it. The whole process of keeping it clean enough to even manage a tiny amount of suction is VERY time consuming and messy and I cannot understand how Hoover could sell something so bad. The metal pipe also continually falls off the hose, the lid gets stuck when you open the front and getting it down feels like it will snap off every time. I hate it, my house feels dirty and I am saving up for a new vacuum. It is lightweight. Complete waste of money!1 comment
I found that where the hose goes into the vacuunm where the little clips things are air and hence suction escapes there apart from all of the other problems = (

Hmm, Was good to start off with.
I got this vacuum about 8 months ago. At first it was really good the suction was great. But after a few months the suction became less and less powerful. I have cleaned it out several times, Going to see if I take it to godfreys and if they can service it or clean it out for me or something.

Good suction but build quality poor
Had issue with handle on dust container breaking. don't even touch it, its for cosmetics only. had it replaced under warranty. vacuum head not built to last, mechanism that joins the head to telescopic pole jams up inside and therefore it wont flex. was impressed to start with before all the issues.
Good suction
Dust container handle not built to last. vacuum head cheap quality.

My parents have a Hoover All Rounder T4012. They didnt know about the filters and collection chamber in the main barrel. Long story, short - I discovered this and emptied it and cleaned the grey sponge filter. They dont have the manual. I need to know how to put it back together properly. Thanks

The red light keeps flickering on when vacuuming and the motoring very hot.

Without knowing how long you've had the unit, I would suggest cleaning the filter pad near the motor unit. If it becomes blocked, the engine will overheat and can surge (power). Also ensure the main chamber is empty and clean.

How do I get the plastic cone out?
2 answers
If it is the one inside where the dust/dirt goes, you rotate the cone and pull it out. It does run up against the grey sponge filter. Make sure you keep that dust free also. If you wash the grey sponge make sure it is dry before it you put it back in. Hope this help!
Thank you sooooo much! : ))) A "friend" sold it to me (without the instruction manual) and worked OK for a while but ended up not sucking up a thing. All I had been doing was emptying the basic part and wondered why not much stuff came out. I had no idea about that cone thing, and when I read of it, I wasn't game to get it out in case it broke. I got it out and was gob-smacked by the amount of dust/fluff that was embedded into it! Can't wait to try it when the grey sponge is dry by tomorrow I hope. BTW There's another thing that looks like a filter with white fabric looking stuff, behind a black plastic frame thingy. Do I need to clean this too? If so, how do I get it out?
