Rubbish
I've had this hob 2 months and its broken down twice with no warning. If you actually need a functional hob to say, cook for your children, this is not the hob for you.

Beeps and turns off
After passing warranty of 5 years, it started beeps and turns off with flashing number. I called Ikea to assist me for the replacement product and my bad luck the kind lady suggested me to contact Electrolux to try for repairs, it may cost less. Unfortunately contacted and the guy come for less than 2 minutes he pressed button and says its computer board dead and will cost $650 plus $ 155 calling out fee. I had to pay calling out fee $155 just for 2 minutes service. It was good they just discussed the problem over the phone instead coming out...
Read more to let the customer know a bit of the cost it could be. I am sure other reviews also says the same problem, so the company most likely knows this issue and charging $155 for 2 minutes job. Such a big company need to understand customer pain as it's already died the next year of warranty and now charging such a big amount just for 2 minutes service...that is just ...I requested even by calling to atleast charge me half fee but no help. Unhelpful people please beware and change the unit, do not call for repairs.Purchased in at IKEA for $599.

Good but not brilliant
Replaced an Aldi induction cooktop with the Smaklig from Ikea. It works well but takes longer to heat than the aldi and requires a higher heat setting. It is quieter than the Aldi. When lifting a pot it cuts out almost immediately which is a little annoying when you are cooking and need to tilt the pot. Overall it works well apart from getting use to the extra heat up time and the higher settings required. I have had it for two months at time of review. Updating the review after 8 months of use, I find settings 1 to 3 are virtually useless with...
Read more very little difference between settings 4 and 5. I find to heat up frying oil requires around 8 to 10 minutes to reach temperature. While the pot is not perfect my old induction stove would heat the oil in around 5 minutes in the same pot. Too much messing around with settings while cooking. My old cheap Chinese induction stove was more consistent and easier to use at half the price of the IKEA. I wont be buying this brand again.Purchased in at IKEA QLD, North Lakes for $599.

Clean and functional design at a bargain price though it is slightly noisier than expected
Love the intuitive control panel and the sleek easy to clean borderless glass. Much better than those with a metal edge wher all the crud from spills gets under. We've had no problems over the two and a half years of use. It does make a noise but that's drowned out by the rangehood exhaust fan....;p
It was a bargain at 499 with a five year warranty that will be honoured if you install it as required.

Brilliant design and function but too loud
Love the design and functions, especially being able to select effect with single taps and that all annoying beeps can be turned off (except the on/off sound unfortunately).
However when turning it on, even before starting any cooking, cooling fans start up at what sounds like full speed. The fans then either stay on or turn off but when on they really take over the entire kitchen (and living room since we have an open floor plan). Fans are heard right through the normal induction cooking hum.
Very disappointed and will contact IKEA for a possible resolve.

Great customer service
Two elements on our Smaklig cooktop suddenly stopped working. Called Ikea on a sunday afternoon. Received confirmation from Electrolux on monday morning that a service request had been made. Serviceman came out on wednesday checked the cooktop ordered new elements and was back on friday to fit them. Really great service from start to finish Ikea/Electrolux kept us in the picture all the way. Servicemen were nice guys and turned up on time. Should also say the Smaklig induction cooktop is very good. Does everything right with a great five year warranty for a very competitive price.

Good quality with a bargain price
Purchased in last year after my old Smeg ceramic cooktop died, it's working very efficient and quiet compare to ceramic cooktop and the price is very good with a 5 years warranty as other brand could be double the price. Only one thing, the cookware, some pots made by stainless steel are working fine on other induction cooktop but couldn't be recognized by this one.

Absolutely Brilliant!
I have been using this cooktop for about a year now, and I love it. I was used to cooking with gas, and when we moved house we had a ceramic cooktop which was just OK, so when it died, I decided to upgrade to induction. After LOTS of research, I realised the Ikea induction cooktops are a fraction of the price of other brands, and they have a longer warranty.
I can't overstate how much I love using this appliance. I would never willingly go back to gas cooking. Here are some of the advantages.
• It is so quick! I have a huge cauldron that ...
Read moreI regularly use to cook a massive batch of food, and with gas or the ceramic cooktop, it took at least an hour to get this volume of food to the boil. With induction, it barely takes twenty minutes. Heating a pot of water or a standard volume of any food is quicker than I had thought was possible. • Control is a dream, changing the temperature is quick, and the range of temperatures is excellent. Turning the heat off or down leads to an instant response. It is so much more precise than gas. • The lowest setting is much gentler than anything possible with gas or ceramic. It is super low! You can gently melt chocolate without burning it, for example.- Date Purchased

Cooks well....then dies
My Smaklig induction hob died after a few short months after installation. The Electrolux technician deemed that the hob was not installed properly and thus overheated the circuits. The 5 year Warranty voided! The professional kitchen installer has since shown me that the install was, in fact, superior to the specs as shown in the IKEA manual. far superior venting and air flow than required by the installation manual. IKEA (&Electrolux) now insist that that having a 20mm bench top instead of 40mm is at fault. HOW???? Having less thermal mass s...

Fantastic - Better than gas!
This thing is simply brilliant. It's European made and has a 5 year warranty. Boils water in literally seconds. Almost instant heat control. Was only $599 with member discount. Have had no issues with it since I bought it some 5 months or so ago. I can have my coffee pot boiled in one minute. My wife is Chinese and uses a wok everyday. She thinks its great too. Much better then the old ceramic thing that we had before that and it is, I am sure as good as other models costing twice as much (or more!)

Questions & Answers
My electrician says induction cooktops can be trouble as they require huge amount of power... unless they pull under 40 amps they can short out electrics...can require expensive rewiring to put one in an existing 80s kitchen. WHY don't specs on these stoves ever say this in plain English?
Another electrician told me you need 3 phase power!
yes, we had to put in an additional ( separate ) circuit for the induction cooktop. also under the australian electrical code there has to be a safety switch to isolate the cooktop in case of an emer...
Read moregency. switch has to be close by the cooktop within 1.5 metres, something like that. for us the additional circuit was no big deal as there was easy under floor access. but i imagine it would be more of a problem in a standard slab house. no. you definitely don't need 3 phase power. we have a long term relationship with our very competent electrician which made the installation easy. its a black and white issue. suggest you get a couple of quotes from reputable electricians and go from there. from memory i thought the ikea specs made it clear that a single circuit would not cover both the oven and an induction cooktop. the induction cooktop is very good but i guess at days end it really does nothing different to a regular good quality cooktop.Does anyone know what the "error code" E3 means on the IKEA Smaklig cooktop?
The manual only makes note of the E4 message.
My cooktop control panel lights up but the burners wont stay on. They light up for a few seconds and then shut themselves off and I get the E3 error code?
As far as I know, it means that the voltage is incorrect, and you should check the power supply. Good luck, and keep us posted!

Read morea replacement Otrolig induction hob. ($300 more expensive). I took up the offer & am happy with the deal. First of all, it is NOT Electrolux. Having investigated the ventilation requirements of many induction hobs, I came to the conclusion that Electrolux's requirement to have only 1 vent, at the front, for both intake & exhaust air, is a recipe for disaster. Also, The new hob is much, much quieter than the defective Smaklig. Induction hobs work off using oscillating magnets and the Smaklig was very, very noisy. Bit like having noisy wheel bearings on a car which need to be replaced before they cause your car to break down & require towing. Verdict? Spend the extra $$$ and go the Otrolig. Avoid any Electrolux based hobs.
