KIA Cerato SLi Sat/Nav GDI - Update 110,000km's
OK - the car has just reached 110,000km! Mechanically great, at the 105,000 service no issue. I have put a tow bar on it and just towed a 4.3M boat to 100km/h but of course on 20mms, I wouldn't suggest going long distance.
The ininterior is beginning to show some age particularly the drivers seat, I'm 84kg so if you are 100kg then the seats may flatten.
How to read my review - I add a paragraph at each service or at each key milestone - which is really just a regular blog style update.
The car reached 70, 000km's during a summer road tri...Read more
p Victoria, NSW and QLD - all types of roads and conditions, lots of country and freeway driving, mechanically doing really well - fuel economy low 6 litre/100km's - previously I did get 5.4litre/100 km, but this time no so. After the last service the fuel efficiency dropped a little - will check what this is about. The rear passenger side window problem resurfaced - so it does not wind! Otherwise all is good. We went through some very dusty roads there was no leaking into the cabin so happy with this, did some 22% grade roads and winding rough surface roads the car handled these well - the suspension seemed very adaptable and even corregations did not cause too much change of character. The car now needs a good wash..... I just had the 60,000km service, this cost $475.00 Aud, there were no additional costs. They changed the oil, fluids, hepa filter, fuel pump filters, etc. There is a noticeable improvement in acceleration, so I think changing/checking the fuel system earlier would be a good idea...it could be due to poor quality/dirty fuel being provided by the local stations. I will assess this at the next 15,000km service. There were no issues from the service, they did notice my brakes were due for replacement, but I had indicated I would do this myself.

Yep I agree about Sat Nav and Tyre Noise
If I was repurchasing a YD Cerato I'd opt for an aftermarket navigator, they're Les troublesome, and at least you can set them without running the engine.
Tyre noise is woeful, and I agree that you can't hear the radio on the highway. If the SatNav version had SDVC (speed dependent volume control), as installed in lower grade models, it might be a bit easier to live with. I've purchased a set of 16 inch YD wheels and tyres in the hope that the extra inch of rubber reduces road noise.

SatNav and Wheels
SatNav, third unit in 2 years, latest version won't hold phone numbers, When you turn the ignition off and remove the phone from the car, you need to download all numbers again, every time.
Wheels/tyres, Like driving on wooden wheels without any tyres and the road noise is horrific. Highway driving - no point trying to listen to the radio. I've changed tyre brand too.

Surprisingly BRILLIANT, Very Happy
Purchased new 10 months ago, now has 21,000 on the clock.
I had never had a Kia before, and when looking for a small car, I researched and test drove Madza 3, Holden Cruze, VW Golf, Toyota Corolla, Hyundai I30 and Gulietta.
Settled on a new YD Cerato S Premium 1.8L Hatch 2014, and I cannot believe how good it is. The hi specs - sat nav, cruise control, reverse sensors, front sensors, bluetooth, reversing camera, comfy interior, alloys, 8 years warranty (5+3), capped price servicing, free roadside assist 5 years... all for 22K. At that time, ...Read more

and in 10mins they replaced it free of charge with the new model sat nav module while I waited. Once again we are still very pleasantly surprised with the quality and performance of the vehicle. My work colleague who bought a Toyota has been back 3 times in the same period with mechanical issues/recalls so it appears, from our experience anyway, the Korean manufacturers have refined their vehicles to at least an equal reliability as other manufacturers and a higher spec and significantly more affordable. Overall very happy with the purchase. Will update @ 80,000 & 100,000km. Based on our experience, daughter and nieces + parents also bought Kias recently and very very happy.UPDATE: June 2018,4 years old @ 76,000 and going just like new. No probs at all. hich were previously more highly respected. A number of our friends with Toyotas, Mazdas and VW all have been back a number of times for issues (some major like gearbox failure) but this Kia certainly is surprising in its build quality, performance and above all, reliability. Will update in another year or earlier if we have any concerns.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Great car to drive.
Purchased new in Nov 2014 this is a very comfortable and easy car to drive with 11 months trouble free motoring. It has a very quiet cabin, you can hardly hear the engine when pulled up at traffic lights. Fantastic economy on long trips as well as around town, with a smooth responsive 1,8 litre engine. With 7 year warranty it is great value for money with fixed price servicing and road side assist. Looked after with professional servicing at Gateway motor group Fairy Meadow.

Just Wow
After owning a Kia Sorrento I bought my wife a lovely red sexy Cerato. This 2 litre beast is so great to drive and fuel efficient. Problem is I don't get to drive it much. Boot space and drive is fantastic well done Kia
Customer service and after market support has been great. Fixed price service allows freedom to chose and know what is coming.

Superb car!
We purchased a brand new Kia Cerato SX hatchback in December 2013. The SX is in the New Zealand market and is the equivalent of the SLi in Australia with its 2.0L engine, 17'' alloys, leather interior, reversing camera and Sat Nav option. I believe that they sell manual Ceratos in Australia, however the only transmission option available in New Zealand is the automatic, so it goes without saying that this is what we have!
Anyway, we've now owned this car for 16 months and have put 15,000 or so kilometres on the clock.
We were specifically...Read more
in the market for a brand new hatch and looked at all the market leaders including the Focus, Corolla, Mazda 3, VW Golf, etc but after taking the Kia for a spin, and comparing its roominess, handling and features up against the others at a similar price point, the Kia won out and I must say, we cannot be happier with our decision!! We have found that it handles nicely, with a very punchy engine and quality interior. In real world driving conditions, including a mixture of (mostly) urban with the odd long-distance drive thrown in, the fuel consumption reading on the trip computer gives us 8.1 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres of driving, which could be better when compared against some of the Cerato's competitors, but we knew what the vehicle's claimed fuel consumption figures were when we were researching and were willing to forgive the machine on this front when we stood back and looked at the 'global' Cerato package so-to-speak! And of course, in the interest of balance, no car is perfect so here's few minor niggles to finish off! The 17'' alloys found on the Cerato SX / SLi literally translates to less rubber for the road and so some people may find the car a little bumpy. We weren't concerned during our test drive, but some may find it a little too annoying for their liking. Also, be careful with curbing the alloys. We've already succumbed unfortunately, not that I'm blaming the car for that though!! Finally, I personally find the steering a little too electronic. In other words, there isn't as much feel as I'd like through the steering wheel back to the driver. There is a 'Flexi Steer' button on the steering wheel itself to change steering modes ('Comfort' - the lightest, 'Normal' - somewhere in the middle and 'Sport' - the weightiest) but as per a review I read online for the Cerato, the steering modes are mostly gimmicky for me. When all is said and done though, we have found our Cerato to be a reliable, safe and fun car to own. Brand snobs may find anything badged as Kia a bit beneath them, but for us, we are definitely happy and proud Kia owners! We took a punt on Kia having never owned one before, and we're sure glad we did!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Can't beat 7yrs Unlimited kms!
Did a lot of research and comparison with vehicles in similar price range and the Kia Cerato came out on top. My only gripe is the price disparity of the models with reversing camera screen and touch screen. I feel the cost of that option is too high (it's just a touch screen). Otherwise power, performance, and price are all good. As stated, 7yrs and unlimited kms is just to good to pass up. Quite big for a hatch, feels more like a small station wagon.

Kia Cerato Koup Touring Turbo Blk 2014
Only fault is the paint we have this car in a black pearl the doors are extremely heavy and long being a Koup so if you and your passenger are not careful the paint is prone to chipping on the door edge!
When we bought the car we didn't opt for paint protection for an extra $2,000 as we thought the quality of the paint would be high due to the price of the car, and not be necessary if taken care of.
Comparing the quality of paint to my 2007 Blk Toyota Corolla Lvn which I have owned for 8 years and has no protection, to my Kia which I've h...Read more
ad for 1, the paint doesn't compare as it is delicate and vulnerable without some kind of protection. For servicing go to a dealership that ONLY sells KIA cars, in our case we found you don't get the full knowledge or service if theres a problem from dealers that sell heaps of different brand of cars. Besides the above, overall the car is great. It is fuel efficient, fast, and has very nice interior features; one being the space in the back considering the car is a Koup.Similar opinion? Love my Kia... but!
Reference to review on Jan 6th.
I suffered same problem with stalled accelerator... only once, so far. Was explained by service as caused by pure electric accelerator. No longer directly linked by cable. Any stutter by you on the pedal may cause this. Had service, they said 'no problem'. Went to Queensland and back no prob'. Still... VERY dangerous!!

Love my Kia
I bought a Kia SLi hatch, MY15 Auto, 2 months ago and only have 2000kl on the clock. Everything is fine except for a problem which was very difficult to replicate when I had a Kia mechanic driving the car to find the problem. When starting off slowly, then accelerate to go a little faster, suddenly the motor just cuts out momentarily, as though you switched off the motor, or starved it of fuel. This is particularly dangerous when needing the uptake in certain traffic conditions. I would like to know if anybody else has experienced the same prob...Read more
lem with the engine cutting out momentarily. It does not do this every time which is why it is hard to get a mechanical diagnosis on the problem. The only other small point I would like to make is about the supposed chilled glove box - I can't feel any difference when it is turned on in conjunction with having the airconditioner on cool. Other than that this is a beautiful vehicle and a pleasure to drive.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
2010-2014 Kia Cerato
I have a Kia Cerato auto. The Wyong and Gosford sales team are a bunch of rude and incompetent lot. We will never buy a car from this dealer again.
The car itself is good no trouble so far after 12500 kms.

Fantastic Car
I purchased 1 year ago the Cerato Si sedan. Absolutely love it. From the feel of the leather wrap wheel, height adjustment of the drivers seat, the sleek looks and the space. I seriously can not fault it. I purchased the 6 speed manual. It even tells you when to change the gears! It also has something to stop you rolling back on a hill. Not quite sure what it is called, but very handy in a manual car. I compared between this and the Hyundai Elantra. The Kia won hands down. The fittings were better, the upholstery was better everything. The push...Read more
button start is a bit of a fun feature, as well as the mirrors fold back automatically when the doors are locked. Once the doors are unlocked, especially at night, you will see that on the bottom of the mirror, is has a down light so you can see. There are also rear lights. When you have your headlights on, you can have an option to have rear lights.... As you can see, I could ramble for ever about it. Would recommend to anyone.Similar opinion? Great value
We bought a 2014 Kia Cerato Si sedan four months ago as our first family car. I have to say that it is a dream to drive. The engine is soo quite and it is an easy car to drive with all its features such as the parking senses and rear camera. The boot is fairly spacious I am able to fit our big babyjogger pram as well as the grocery shopping. My husband and I are very pleased with our purchase and have nothing negative to say about this car.
Easy to drive, spacious boot, looks good

Kia Cerato is complete car
Bought a new Kia Cerato Si sedan model two weeks ago, it has got good pick up, gives 7.5 ltrs per 100km in normal driving, expect it will be better in highway driving. I use comfort mode for steering which is good for me. Overall a good value for money with rear camera, sensor, push button start for the price. Worth considering this car.

Not happy. Too much road noise. No speed sensitive volume control. Compromised security not allowing only driver's door to unlock before opening other three.
On highway cruising only saving about $1.80 per hundred km as opposed to the more comfortable relaxed drive the VZ commodore provided.

Satellite navigation broken the second time...
It is a no doubt a good car but given the dealership after sales service, the waiting time to get the faulty item replace or inspect you may have to wait for up to 10 days to get the appointment. The worst thing is I have waited 3 weeks in total to get my sat nav replaced. I was happy about it after it has been replaced, but it didn't long last. After 2 weeks the same problem occurs. Now have to go through the same problem to get the sat nav inspect then replace... I would say the only let down for Kia is the dealership is owned independently...

Love it!
I test drove quite a few cars before I decided on the YD Cerato Si. After a big purchase I often have 'buyers remorse' - not with this car.
I love how smooth it is to drive and the list of features is fantastic. I think for the price it's a bargain. My daughter loves the air conditioning vents for the rear seat passenger, and with all of the standard inclusions I don't feeling that it is missing anything.
The only two things I would change about my car would be to add a parking sensor in the middle of the front bumper (it already has two ...Read more

Great car
I first came across this car as a rental from Thrifty. It looked sleek in silver and offered a red lit interior with more features than my Holden Cruze CDX.
What I found most impressive was the fact that although this car offers all the creature comforts such as bluetooth, auto-central locking once mobile, smooth 6-speed auto and steering wheel paddles, was the fact that this thing can hit 0-100km/h in under 8 seconds.
I've since traded in my Cruze for a new Cerato from Joe Crisafio in Perth and honestly, the 115kw engine gets to work as...Read more
soon as you put the foot down to take off. It's like a Jack Russell ready to let go at a board of balloons on the floor on an episode of Jay Leno. Shifting the auto trans manually is responsive, the steering is light but not overly light to make it "unsportlike". It takes corners very well but bucket seats would have certainly made the overall comfort much better, my model has the 17" Koup wheels which I requested for my Hatch Si as I understand this is a good rule of thumb for handling. It's got a load of room and it doesn't sacrifice power for comfort even with a full cargo. A strong, practical and reliable car with a decent safety rating.1 comment

More than just good value
After months of research and test driving a number of small/medium cars I purchased the new shape Cerato Si.
The Si comes with some useful additions including, a proximity key with push button start, reversing camera, a powerful 130kw engine... and 7 litres per 100km fuel efficiency!
The car looks modern and is roomier than most cars in this sector.
Price, looks fantastic (inside and out)
Manual gear box lacks feel (minor)
