Large, well built, comfortable and very fuel efficient.
Purchased this as an ex fleet vehicle last week. 2016 model. The vehicle had only done about 51,000 k's when i picked it up but i only do about 9,000 a year. Private use only. It seemed to be pretty well looked after. First the transmission. I've never driven one of these before now, but i couldn't believe the seamless gear changes. You can barely feel them. It hasn't hunted for the right cog either. I was surprised just how much grunt the 112 kw donk has. No lack of it if you give it a bootful. The hatch has an incredible amount of space. The ...Read more
tyres that are on it are ok, but I'll replace them with something better when the time comes. Road noise is minimal. The factory audio in this is very good and as yet, I've had no problems. Some people have stated that they are having issues with theirs. I haven't used the Cruise or Bluetooth yet so i can't comment on them. The digital and analogue speedo's both correspond with each other, so i'll have to presume that they are correct. The seats are comfortable but the passenger side sits a bit low. I would guess they are all like that in the base model. I took it for a run to Caboolture and back from Bracken Ridge yesterday and the trip meter just dropped down to 5 litres per 100 klm's or 20 kpl. That is approx 56 mpg on standard unleaded. 2,000 RPM in 6th at 100 kph. That's 900 RPM less than my old manual Fiesta in 5th at the same speed. Approx 7.2 kpl around town. All of these figures are better than my old 2013 Fiesta manual. That's exceptional for a bigger and more powerful car. Brakes are very good but i will have them independently checked to check the wear. Transmissions in these have no service time. Basically sealed for life, but i checked with Kia and they told me, only under very, very severe operating conditions does the fluid have to be replaced. Even states in the handbook, don't even worry about it if it looks a bit off colour. Some reports on YouTube show that flushing the system can even damage it, so i'll leave it alone. If it lasts the 7 year warranty period, i'm happy. Being an ex fleet it only has 150,000 klm warranty, but that's no problem. Everything works at the moment and at least i can turn that accursed traction control off on this. It's even got a temperature gauge. Electric power steering is well weighted and is not quite as direct as the old Fiesta, which means i'm not constantly over correcting like i was with the other one. Rear leg room is excellent. New Cerato's no longer have a full sized spare. Thankfully, this one does and a CD player. The spark plug intervals should be 60,000 and not 45,000 unless you want to put Iridium in. Servicing costs should be kept to a minimum being every 15,000klms. If you want to purchase your own parts, ebay can be a very useful tool, especially with filters. One final thing. I prefer to purchase an ex fleet vehicle with a few more klms on it. At 50,000, this suggests to me that the company has had no problems and that is why they've kept it a little longer. More later. Update:: After a while, i noticed a rattle around the hatch area. Do you think i could find it? Pulled everything out the back, twice. Still there. Checked back seats, even the number plate surround. Still there. So, i thought, i wonder. Shut the hatch and pushed the bottom of it up and down and i could hear a slight noise. Make no mistakes with weird noises from cars. Sound travels. Although i had a rough idea where it was coming from, it turned out it wasn't. Every time i went over a speed bump, creak creak. I guessed and it payed off. I saturated the hatch struts and the locking mechanism with CRC. I even tightened the rubber stops on the hatch lid. Shut the hatch, went 'round the back and gave it a couple of pushes and lo and behold, gone. Took it over the same speed bumps several times. Gone. It could have been any one of the above mentioned things, but i tend to think i jagged it. I put this up because i read somewhere that someone else had a rattle in the back they couldn't find. While i'm on it, the insurance on this is cheaper than my old 2013 Fiesta. I got an $18 refund when i transferred the policy. Approx $262 through NRMA. Also, thank god it's got a chain and not a belt. Edit:: I have had no problem with the Cruise control at any speed. Accurate to the nth degree. Edit::: My only real gripe is the passenger seat sits very low. I would think they'd all be the same.

Good for the money.
For the money you can't go wrong. Long warranty and looks pretty good too. Two years old almost with 50k on the clock. Had some minor issues with the volume control on the steering wheel, minor rear main leak (Kia to be informed next service) and terrible cruise control consistency. Second one I have personally cone across. Despite these little niggles, great affordable family car or commuter.

2013 YD 1.8L — Great car
I've had this car now for 2 years and she's a beauty. Good reliable engine and quality build all round. Would definitely buy a Kia again based on this experience. Picked up the Cerato for about $14K in Nov 2016 — pretty much exactly 3 years old with 28,000kms on the odometer. I've reached 60,000kms now and no mechanical breakdowns. I bet you can get a better deal now on this version of the Cerato. I still have manufacturers warranty until 2020! Only minor issues like the cruise control speed set rocker sticking a little bit, and occasionally pr...Read more
oblems connecting the bluetooth with my phone, other than that I can't think of anything wrong with it. The 1.8L engine is actually very powerful for the size too, I get more power than I did in my old 2.0L 2004 Elantra. Worth a look at buying if you find one with low kms and/or at a good price.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Entertainment System has Issues
I bought my Cerato in March 2017. The price and 7 year warranty were the biggest attractions for us. Great car to drive, very comfortable and economic.
However, we have had 3 entertainment systems so far. It turns itself on and off, extremely staticy phone calls (it sounds perfect on the drivers end but shocking on the receivers end), no volume comes through at certain times, the camera turns itself off in the middle of reversing..
Kia has wiped their hands of it and told me I was the only one in all of Australia with the issue. Blamed ...Read more
me and said I must’ve been doing something wrong or that it was all down to phone reception even though I had video evidence of it happening. This has been the biggest disappointment for me and has definitely put me off ever buying through Kia again.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Great little car
This is a great little car. Mine is 6 speed manual, hatch back Cerato year 2010.Zippy little car has lots of guts and I get high 500's in kms in Winter but that drops dramatically to high 300's in kms in Summer when the air conditioner is on all the time (Perth climate).
I use it mainly for shops and school runs and do a fair few kms in a week - over 250km. Compared to my last car which was an SUV, this is a gem on the fuel and is much more fun to drive.
The most annoying thing about this car, and omg, it is SO ANNOYING, is the automatic loc...Read more

My fourth Cerato
I have owned four of these and love them. Research showed best value for the money and a 7 year warranty. Very roomy in the rear for carrying lots and a very comfortable drive. SA dealership Reynella excellent, allowed me to trade in in Adelaide and pick up new vehicle in Queensland when I moved interstate. Eagers Kia Brisbane average. Car not as advertised ( they advertised it as 2018 and it turned out to be a 2017 model.) They failed to remove my name from registration in a timely manner so I received a speeding fine incurred by them two weeks after I traded in my old vehicle. Had to go to the trouble of finding a JP to prove it!!

Bad cruise control and more
Purchase car in Nov 2016 and even as I drove it out of the dealers I felt the brake pedal vibrate when applying the brakes. In the first 5000kms it had the from disc's skimmed and the brake pads replaced. This fault should have been picked up at pre delivery, if it had one.
It was advertised as having Android Auto and after a week of not being able to get it to work I returned it to the dealer because they had not loaded the Android Auto software. Again, this fault should have been identified at pre delivery.
The car has now done 40,000kms an...Read more

Best in its class
Bought this in 2016 from Dandenong. Best decision I have made. Use it for work only and will manage to get 600 km on full tank. Spacious and comfortable for long drives. Gives 17 to 18 Km/ ltr on free way.Service is every 15k and cost around 300.
Overall its good car and reliable.

Not that happy
I bought this car brand new, and have not yet had a first service, in this time : The constant vibration noise from the hatch cover is very annoying, and has you asking yourself while driving ( what's that noise ) - The on road noise is awful compared to my previous RIO, it is very loud like being in an air craft cabin ( constantly looking for noise cancelling headphones) I am not really happy with this car, I thought i would be from upgrading from a brand new RIO, thinking a Cerato would be even better then a model under... Well it is not.....Read more
. The RIO in my opinion, is much much much quieter car to drive with road noise, handles bumps on road better, and is in my opinion an overall better car then the Cerato... Would I put my name to suggesting anybody actually buy a Cerato = NO.... RIO = yes but Cerato =NO spend a little more and get a better car, I will be flipping this brand new Cerato very soon, as I am just not happy with the loud road noise ( especially on older roads ) as driving has to be pleasurable, and in the Cerato it is not...Similar opinion? Very good car for the price
Every 15k under warrantee..
AM radio not that good in rural areas. Don't use metallic tint. - Ceramic. Also I had faulty antenna amp. Warrantee replacement.
No ignition key light. Annoying.
Cannot activate electric windows when inside the car without key in. Your passenger left in car not happy.
Beware the lights don't Auto switch off, unless you remove keys and lock The car. Maybe a trap.
Other than that, a bloody good car.

The Good and Bad but mostly Good
Vehicle was purchased brand new last year. We were drawn to the 7 year Warranty, Full Sized Alloy Spare wheel and the list of features on the car including Android Auto, large boot and Sat Nav, Auto Head Lights and Day time running lights. Love the 15000km service intervals and the fact that its a normal 6 speed auto. Not a CVT. The car drives well and my daughter has been learning to drive on it and loves it. When we first got it we found it had a musty smell that was not pleasant compared to most cars but this disappeared after 6 months. We ...Read more
think it was the new car rubbers and plastic. Cruise Control can be a bit irratic and the digital speedo show this up so we keep the digital speedo off. The speedo is also out by about 10% according to Highway Speed Radar GPS and mobile speed apps. It is set too low so no speeding tickets alas this is out by too much in 2018 in our opinion and there is no fix according to other people who have complained about it. So we have learned to accept these little problems. Also because it is not a CVT it can be a little thirsty on petrol compared to others in the market. Overall its a neat comfortable car and we may consider to purchase the latest model in a few years because the updated inside interior looks like a Kia Stinger which is a very stylish looking car.Similar opinion? The best first car.
Bought this car brand new and have had absolutely no issues with it. It does really well on premium petrol and lasts a full 2 weeks before I have to fill up again. However it chews through E10 ( which is standard for any vehicle I feel). Took it in for a first service a few weeks ago and they gave it a vacuum and a clean too. Couldn't be happier with buying this car, however will probably upgrade to another sportier version next year. Recommend this car for any one!

2014 Cerato SLi Infotainment Faults
Have had mine since August 2014, so far other than destroying 2 YES 2 Infotainment Units, now my 3rd one has decided to kill itself, mechanically no problems whatsoever, fuel economy is great considering, I have the 129kw 2.0ltr, other than the fact the Infotainment Units are CRAP the car itself is a good buy...

Great little car
I have used this car for Community work for approx. 6 months now and it runs like a dream. Great mileage and has all the tech gadgets I didn't know I needed! Has reversing camera and front/side/back sensors. It's really zippy yet has enough "muscle power" for long highway trips. Would definitely recommend.

Ex-demo... Purchased in June 1917 (EOFY) at a reasonable price with 7 year warranty and just now ticking over 30k km. Happy with the economy at 6.4L/100km. Ride is smooth despite the rough country roads we travel on, great leg room front and back and the boot space is fabulous ...well able to contain a collapsible wheelchair of late and still have room left over...with smooth auto transmission and great acceleration when needed. All in all very happy with what we got. Hoping it continues!

Great car bad entertainment system
Car is great to drive and has lots of features, great value for money.
The issue I have with it is the entertainment system. Have had three systems so far put into the vehicle. Phone calls are really fuzzy and distorted to the person receiving the call, yet the person in the car hears nothing wrong. The system sometimes won't turn on and at times the radio has no sound. The entertainment system only comes with a three year warranty, the rest of the vehicle is seven years.
Customer service to help us fix the issue is pretty much non existent. They keep saying is a fault with our phones or signals, never mind both my wife and I have bought new phones and driven different routes to prove this theory wrong.

Steering Committee needs steering. When your budget dictates your choice of car is reduced to white goods.. enter Kia. At the price, you can’t afford to leave it in the showroom. Goes ok - engine & gearbox about right (for a fridge). Steering needs constant input - like, more input than it should need. Wheels are too small, so brakes are a laugh (scary under pressure). Lots of ergonomic, er, character - I have never got to the bowser without a 2nd visit to the drivers seat. Or got to sit in the car without fumbling for the key again if I’ve been in the boot. And the other way ‘round.
Per hour, this car costs more. Lots more. Delay your purchase, save some more and benefit from Japan’s brands.

Don’t buy. Accelerator pedal is too close to the brake pedal. Apply the brake and you can often catch the throttle - car won’t slow enough. Other drivers report same in this model Kia.

Great car but lacks guts
Beautiful to drive and economical on the highway. Fuel economy is worse than my corolla before it but not by much. Easy to clean interior and fold down armrest and cupholder in back seat. Doesn't skip a beat but definitely lacks power and needs to rev a lot to get up to speed and up hills.

Air conditioner not working have tried to fix it 3 times now and still not working.
Air not working. Radio has been changed 3 times still stops for no reason. Gear change when cold gives you whiplash. I was hoping to have a good car but now I would never buy another KIA ever or recommend it to anyone who is looking to buy a new car.
January 12th 2022 Update: Air conditioning
These cars are not quality built, avoid buying one. Air conditioning under powered road noise is so load that you have to turn up the radio. And power is little I have the car sitting in the sun at work till midday and the heat is so bad that it takes 20 minutes till a little bit of cool air comes out.
