Dream Drive!
We love our new platinum 2013 diesel Sorento. It drives like a dream-purrs around town but plenty of grunt if you want to overtake up a hill. Great suspension, corners well, fabulous fuel economy and no blind spot in side mirrors! It is spacious-although the rear seats (6 and 7) are snug, it is good that 2nd row seat fold forward to allow access to 3rd row. The panoramic roof is aaaamazing-worth upgrading to top model just for that! The heated leather seats are very comfortable and the keyless entry is so convenient (however I do wish there was...Read more
a back up key for ignition in case the electronics fail). The reverse camera is wonderful (these should be standard safety feature). The car is a pleasure to drive-perfect family car! Stylish, powerful, economical, comfortable drive, luxury features, 5 year unlimited km warranty Plastic interior scratches easily, would like to have back up ability for if electronics fail (ignition/seats etc)3 comments
Still love the car- but one further criticism would be the lousy GPS navigation. It is great as a map but not enough updates (not aware of newer roads) and the navigation takes you on the most compli... Read more
cated back roads rather than direct route. Still have awesome fuel economy around 8L/100 and love the visual display of active fuel consumption-has helped change the way I drive to get the best fuel economy. I was also pleasantly surprised by the cooling option on the seats-it is beautiful on a hot day (didn't think I would like it). I would definitely recommend this car-we love it.
5 years later-getting 7.2L fuel economy (country kms) and still love it...no regrets-just wish it had better towing capacity and better GPS

Next Gen Sorento Platinum Is a winner
Simply stunning in almost every way. The features are unending, seat heaters and coolers, moon roof, push button start, key less entry, great sat nav, effortless Bluetooth, decent power, self adjusting seats, rear camera. I'm a gadget man and I'm in heaven. The suspension seemed a tad spongy till I pushed it through the corners then it seemed stiffer.
Fuel Economy. Long list of standard features. Sun/Moon Roof is amazing.
A tad noisy compared to our 528i BMW. Spongy suspension at slow speeds.

Engine capacity was different to what was stated.
We purchased our first new car. Went and seen the 3.5L 2011 Kia Sorento. We loved it and went home happy after signing the contact and picked up the car the next day. When we received the rego papers we noticed it said the car was a 2011 2.4L petrol. We went up to the salesmen and said what's this? He said that we signed for the base model 2.4L 4 cyl. We looked through all our paperwork and found yes we bought the base model but we shown a 3.5l which was also a base model at the same price. We went to ACCC and they researched for us weather we ...Read more
have a case or not. On the paperwork we were given it says we bought a 2010 Kia Sorento Si model. The paperwork did not specify an engine size. We were told that due to no engine size being stated in the paperwork there was nothing that could be done. Kia are horrible and the car has no power. Kia are the worst car company in Australia. Roomy when back seats are down. Bad service, terrible fuel economy, no power4 comments
You did not have your eyes wide open when you purchased and as always blame everyone but yourself, very typical and at the end of the day you even blame Kia themselves, wake up to yourself!!!!
I absolutely love, love, love my Kia Sorento!
I recently went to a Kia dealership, the salesperson was rude and had no knowledge of the Sorento. They are called car salesman for a reason.

Looking to purchase a 2013 Sorento Platinum diesel
Just lately I have looked and test drove, always at least overnight the baby Lexus hybrid, Holden Volt, Santa Fe Highlander and done lots of homework on other possibilities from reading reviews and complaints etc. and I to have come off my snob ladder having owned Porsche, Subaru, Triumph Stag, Ford LTD, Holden Caprice and so many news cars of my many years and never have I been more impressed with the new model.
When I look at the long list of refinements, ventilated/air-conditioned seats, door handle lights.....well you can read brochures...Read more
as well as me, and then you take a car overnight and run it through it's paces I am so impressed but the level of comfort, goodies, safety, running costs, warranty, I think it's a fair price for this style of vehicle. Just awaiting now to see the deal I can strike to change over my current car. The Holden Volt was a close one but at $65,000.00 it's not worth the change over, but at about $2.50 to run on batteries for about 90K probably faster to 110K per hour than many cars on the road today, tempting, but I do love the prospect of owning the new model. Absolutely everything, cool seats for driver and passenger, the 'moon' roof with a view to die for, big tyres/wheels. Nothing so far, even the negative view on older models, perhaps 2013 is the year for Kia to become of age.3 comments

We bought a late model 2011 Sorento new (Diesel) and have 60,000km's on it already. It has been a fantastic car, drives great, excellent fuel economy, it's the best car I have ever owned. Take care Wayne

Kia Dealers are the worst
Great car let down my a shocking dealer network. I test drove the car and said yep I take it, the sales manager said it would put it out back so it would not be used for demos that weekend. Picked up the car the following week and headed off, the thing was pulling left so badly my wife got sore arms. Dropped it into the dealer first thing Monday morning said they would fix it straight away, hours later they said they had done a wheel alignment, steering wheel now off centre so they must have done something. LHF tyre scrubbed out in 10K, got a w...Read more
heel alignment done at a tyre place, tyre wear and pulling left problem solved. However in the mean time when I washed it I noticed that the front guard had been resprayed (very poorly) and there was even over spray on the moldings. Kia denied any issues with this although admitted it did have a poor repair on the front guard and offered to respray it. Not a happy Kia owner, just can't wait till the lease is up and I can get rid of it. I will never buy another Kia. There is no product backup with this brand. Very tight 1st Gear
Everything about the new Kia Sorento 2012 seemed fantastic, the economy is amazing for a 7 seater (or even a 5 seater ), spacious, well equipped, great price. But right from the start, it is almost impossible to select first gear - even if stopped for at least 5 seconds, with the clutch fully engaged, I had to take it into second gear before first gear in order to "line up" 1st gear. Salesman said it should loosen up by first service, when I took it back for 1500km service, the service manager told me to wait until 7500km service, "it should l...Read more

Sorento is a great car until something goes wrong.... Then KIA wash their hands of customers
We had been telling all our friends how much we loved the car - driving 18 months, and 70,000+ km without a single issue. Heaps of room, comfortable and stylish. We couldn't talk highly enough of our beloved Sorento. Then my husband had an accident with a kangaroo. Body work was fixed through insurance in a week, but an electrical problem was discovered. Our Sorento was taken to the biggest dealership in the state so repairs could be expedited - well from there things went down hill. Kia do not stock parts in Australia so each part had to be or...Read more
dered from O/S- (Korea/ Japan??) at a wait of between 2 weeks and 5 weeks. As each part was fitted it was found not to have fixed the issue. After 2 months I had had enough and contacted head office of Kia Australia in writing with my grievances about time frames and service. I was sent back an email correcting me on my naming of a part and telling me if I wasn't happy with the service centre take it somewhere else. What happened to assisting your customers - listening to feedback to improve your product?? It was another 2 months before we got the car back - yes, 4 months in total for repairs - no apology, nothing, and when we did get our car back yesterday it was immediately apparent the wheel alignment was seriously wrong. The car was returned in a dirty condition (after being delivered to them detailed), and they couldn't even put 1/4 of a tank of diesel in the car after keeping us without it for 4 months. Even though we loved the actual car, we will never ever buy a Kia again and will tell everyone else what the catch is with getting such a great car at such a competitive price- you sacrifice service- and good service is impassive to keep your car on the road and customers returning. Kia need to learn this but it seems they don't care - they should know so many people have been involved in this case - the repairers, insurance, lease company, assessors and all have given Kia a huge thumbs down... People talk Kia, you should listen! Honestly you turned a family who were shouting your praises into one which spreads the word about your appalling customer service and vehicle parts policies... But you just don't care do you? We loved everything about this vehicle until it came time to get it repaired. Appalling service, parts not available in Australia - 5 weeks wait on some parts, unhelpful unsympathetic staff.6 comments

nths back and forth, I refused to pick up the car until it was fixed. It took more than eight weeks to get it fixed and only because I was so persistent and eventually escalated it to the CEO of the dealership and gave Kia an ultimatum that we would be taken legal action to have a replacement car. Our dealership were at least willing to acknowledge that it was their and Kia's issue and after I insisted, they gave us a replacement car for the whole period. Eventually the dealership did what we asked from the beginning and checked all the wires in the passenger door and miracle - they found the problem - no thanks to Kia. Of course, I am not blaming my car for any of this because I love it..... but I hate to think what it would be like if the dealer hadn't been able to solve the problem.....Similar opinion? Great car for touring
Have just done 5,000km through Victoria and Tasmania. Impressed by the performance, handling, comfort and good fuel economy (up to 40 mpg). SLi version has everything we wanted. Don't use the last row of seats but as they fold flat it gives plenty of luggage space. On the freeway at 110 km/h it gives around 40 mpg (7 litres/100km) and auto hardly changes down - tons of torque. Much better than the 4 speed auto Forester X we had.

honestly say the vehicle has performed exceptionally. It is comfortable, well appointed with really good performance and fuel economy. Nothing has gone wrong and I can recommend it to a family and/or someone who likes to carry lots of gear. Never used the 6-7 seats but that gives me more storage area. Its going to be out of warranty shortly - don't like to trade it in but maybe now is the time seeing as a new Kia offers 7 year warranty and some extra gadgets. A new owner will be pleased to get a great car. Performance and comfort Bigger than I envisaged (Sportage might have been better for size) but wanted the 2.2 litre engineSimilar opinion? Our first all wheel drive car, great introduction to them
We decided to go with a diesel all wheel drive as we do a lot of highway travel & the great Bruce Hwy in Qld is a bit of a mess in places. We wanted the option of 7 seats as we still have 3 of our 5 children at home + grandies starting to arrive. We have had Kias & Hyundais for the last 12 years so decided to stay in that realm. We found the Kia Sorrento has more comfortable seats in the mid level than the Santa Fe, that was the only difference so that was the decider.

Oil consumption
The Kia with the turbo diesel engine can be an excessive oil user if used for towing or in hot weather, but less in cooler weather. Kia state acceptable usage is 1 litre per 1500km apparently this is common all the diesel engines and the oli level should be checked every 500 km and is stated in the manual. Just be sure of the fact that you virtually do an oil change before your 10,000km service. If you can accept this then the car is otherwise ok all round
plenty of power, comfortable ride,
excessive oil consumption

My Sorento
Bought the Sorento after owning a 2004 Outback Subaru. Loved the Subaru but wanted something that was more fuel efficient, diesel, auto and that could tow 1000 to 1400kgs with relative ease. The Subaru fell short on the auto side of things and their sales staff were unable to get one for me to drive. After driving the Sorento and getting my mind passes the Kia 'crap' and reading the reviews. I absolutely love it. Great motor and gear box, safe and well equipped and fun to drive. s. Yes I agree plastics do mark a little easier but the overall finish and drive, this is a superb vehicle. Look at the Holden Captiva but its performance was not as good and the interior was far inferior... reflecting its cheaper price. The diesel motor in the Sorento surpasses the 2.5 diesel motor in the Mitsubishi Challenger in economy, power and performance plus most if not all motors of similar size on the market.. Motor, gear box, driveability for its size, equipment level for its price, safety level, tows extremely well also Perhaps the scratchability of its plastics but not sureif I am being influenced by what I read.Similar opinion? Owned one for 10 months now, proved to be a good well built vehicle. I think the Koreans made a real attempt with this one to build a world class quality car that puts to rest that it is a inferior product.
Diesel gets outstanding economy, big car with small car thirst. Small turbo diesel is quiet and has gobs of grunt when pushed. Optional seven seats is very handy. Holds the road well without being too firm a ride. Nice to drive.

If I knew that the Sorento was going to use so much oil, would never have bought one. Kia dealers are most unhelpful.
Reliable car, well built and very smooth engine.
Burns oil like there's no tomorrow. Kia dealers tell me that acceptable oil usage for sorrentos is 1 litre for every 1500 kms travelled. Have a Holden Colorado with 25,000kms and have never had to top up with oil. Costing me an arm and a leg for oil.

Looking for feedback on the Kia Sorento XM with 2.2 Diesel Motor and automatic transmission; particularly vehicles used to tow.
How many kilometres has your vehicle done and have you encountered any problems that additional maintenance may have been able to prevent?
I have a 2014 with 60K on the clock and need to make sure I get 10 years and 200K of reliable motoring. I am concerned the service program covers the bare minimum. The vehicle was purchased new and is still under warranty.

Wouldn't recommend it for towing. They seem to have a very weak link between the transfer case and transmission. Ours chewed out the spline at around 100K km and we do very little towing. I have heard it is not uncommon on both the Sorento and Hyundai Sante Fe which has the same running gear.
KIA covered it under warranty but were very slow to act and only supplied the Dealer with parts to repair rather than a complete unit so repairs took some time.
Car runs fine now but we really lost confidence with both the vehicle and manufacturer. They are fine for city or soft country driving but nothing too hard. Will probably look at new Pajero or similar in the future. Hope this helps. Cheers.
I have to agree with Dan. My story is a bit disappointing at 150K on the clock. I thought I had an SUV for good value, until the timing chain snapped. Owned several diesel engine suv's and utes and this is the first time this has happened to me. New Sorentos seemed to go up in flames too...I saw SOME news reports already on some newer.
