I have a 2011 Sorento 2.2crd KX2 and I keep hearing a rattle on start up when the car has been left for a while, just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and a possible solution?
Many thanks

I have Kia Sorento 2010 turbo diesel does it need timing belt to be changed on 200.000 km?
1 answer
Hi Hadi. I'm pretty sure they run a timing chain not belt.
See link below.

Looking for feedback on the Kia Sorento XM with 2.2 Diesel Motor and automatic transmission; particularly vehicles used to tow.
How many kilometres has your vehicle done and have you encountered any problems that additional maintenance may have been able to prevent?
I have a 2014 with 60K on the clock and need to make sure I get 10 years and 200K of reliable motoring. I am concerned the service program covers the bare minimum. The vehicle was purchased new and is still under warranty.

Wouldn't recommend it for towing. They seem to have a very weak link between the transfer case and transmission. Ours chewed out the spline at around 100K km and we do very little towing. I have heard it is not uncommon on both the Sorento and Hyundai Sante Fe which has the same running gear.
KIA covered it under warranty but were very slow to act and only supplied the Dealer with parts to repair rather than a complete unit so repairs took some time.
Car runs fine now but we really lost confidence with both the vehicle and manufacturer. They are fine for city or soft country driving but nothing too hard. Will probably look at new Pajero or similar in the future. Hope this helps. Cheers.
I have to agree with Dan. My story is a bit disappointing at 150K on the clock. I thought I had an SUV for good value, until the timing chain snapped. Owned several diesel engine suv's and utes and this is the first time this has happened to me. New Sorentos seemed to go up in flames too...I saw SOME news reports already on some newer.

I wish to know if the 6 speed auto is strong enough for towing a 1500kg Gvm Caravan. Is the factory transmission cooler good enough or does it require an aftermarket add on? thanks, Dave.

Hi mate. I haven't yet towed anything yet, don't have a tow-bar. But so far whatever the specs say on caradvice and other car reviews online, Sorrento that I have has matched it in real life.
Cooler ia pretty ok I suppose. I drove through QLD in 40C days for 3 weeks, it flew like a kite. No issues with anything.
Thanks for answering Sam.

Have any drivers of a 2014 Sorento with leather seats found the foam is breaking down and as a result there are large creases in the leather? For a $42000 vehicle I believe the seats should last way beyond 25000km.
It should be noted wear signs were evident at the first intermediate service at 7500km but KIA brushed me off.

A long time problem for Kia. They make a great car however, the leather and foam quality is less than adequate.
Our 6 year old XM front leather seats have collapsed side bolsters on the door side of the seat base. Were like that when we bought it second hand. Leather is hard and crappy quality but at least it hasn't cracked or split ... yet. In your case I would be hassling Kia Australia directly over that one. I stepped out of a 2010 X Trail with lovely leather pews in great condition after 120000ks. I would have thought Kia had it sorted by now.
Kia/Hyundai are as likely to resolve the Asian leather/plastic crisis as they are in resolving the demilitarised zone between north and south.

How does your 2011 xm-my11 Kia Sorento tow? I have a 1700 van plus 2 adults a 3 adult teenagers would this car do this ok without killing the motor. Looking at going across to Perth from Sydney.

To be honest I never towed with it but I believe it's rated to pull 2T capacity. Just bear in mind that the 3.5 V6 is only front wheel drive so that might have
some bearing on how well it tows...As much as I love the V6's silky smooth powerful motor, I'm guessing the 2.2 Diesel AWD is a better option for towing...due to AWD?
My car is the MY 12...not sure how different from the MY11.
Good luck.

Interested in other peoples experience with towing a caravan with the Sorento Diesel. I have a 2014 build model purchased in mid 2015 as a run-out model. Done 15,000 klms and very happy with the car but have not done any towing as yet.

Sorry Mars, haven't towed anything bigger than a box trailer but did spy these 2 reviews. Cheers.
