2012 Kia Sportage Platinum Turbo Diesel
Kia continues to push the envelope with value for money, and now build quality. The platinum model is at the top of the Sportage range, and subsequently has just about every option imaginable as standard. Although the interior panels are primarily hard plastic, the manufacturing quality is pretty solid for a car in this price range. After 3 months of daily use, the interior is still rattle and squeak free. The leather seats and leather wrapped steering wheel aren't as soft as those found in Euros, but should stand up well to years of daily abus...Read more
e. The engine has mountains of torque (just shy of 400Nm) which is great fun around town and pulls effortlessly on highways, but runs out of puff pretty early. The 6 speed auto is fairly slow to shift and really could use a sports setting. Fuel use is also a little on the high side for city driving, averaging around 10.9L/100ks, however, this comes down to around 7.5L/100ks on highways. More spirited driving pushes fuel use up to about 12-13L/100ks around town. One major niggle which didn't become apparent until after the car was purchased is a 1-2 second lag between pushing the throttle and the car actually starting to move. This seems to be intermittent and only appears to manifest in the turbo diesel model, however it's not turbo lag. I can only put this down to the ESP system killing power in anticipation of wheel spin. This is most noticeable when trying to merge from side streets or short lanes from take off. The driver aids are very controlling and cut in to stop any sort of fun, which can be intrusive and unwanted when driving in some situations. Apart from the few issues outlined above, the Sportage Platinum diesel is very good value for money, with the pros far outweighing the cons. And, while fuel use can be a little high when pushed, normal driving will average around 10L/100km in relative comfort and 5 star safety. engine torque, massive features list, price, build quality, looks, highway fuel consumption auto slow to shift, unresponsive during takeoffs, driver aids cut in too much, city fuel consumption1 comment

Just wow!
This is my first SUV and I went mad reading about SUV's priced under $40k. I checked out videos, read professional and amateur reviews about almost every brand. I test drove VW Tiguan, Mitsubishi ASX, BMW X1, Nissan Dualis, Mazda CX 5 and Kia Sportage.
I chose Kia Sportage MY12 Platinum Petrol, Signal red colour for the below reasons:
Looks - hands down winner when compared to any of the above SUVs or other SUVs under $40k category.
Features - The platinum range has most of the features. Please check Kia website for more details.
Power - 2.4l Petrol engine is a bliss to drive

appy with it. Dealer where i bought is no longer a Kia dealer possibly doe to kias inability to supply enough cars and not keeping dealers informed..What price, would be a good drive away price? I see that 37500.00 for the top of the range, including tinted windows, floor mats, full tank of petrol and road side assist for 5 years is ok.

is still trying to find the problem and holding my car indefinitely. So I don't have a car to drive to work. To think that this problem is a manufacturing issue, they don't give you much consolation at all for the inconvenience, not even a car to drive so I can go to work. I'm just an ordinary worker and my car equates to income. I can't afford to rent a car. The local dealer said they haven't got a spare car for me to drive. Period. I'm like feeling really disappointed in fact I'm beginning to regret buying KIA when I could have bought Subaru or Toyota or Honda range because their after sales service just excellent. I'm stock without a car for who knows how long ( they said they'll order parts from overseas...the other person said they don't know what's wrong with it). I don't know whom to ask for help now. Does anyone know? Any idea? Thanks. I'm just frustrated.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Best little Runabout I have ever Owned
Plenty of positives. The best looking medium SUV on the market. Plenty of safety features for the price. Quality is equal to or betters the higher priced Japanese models. Alloys look stunning although tires will be expensive to replace. Air conditioning increases fuel consumption drastically. Smooth automatic which can't be felt shifting unless under heavy acceleration. Front passenger seat needs to be cooled and electrically operated like the drivers seat. Sunroof wont be used much in Australian summers. Would like to see the towing capacity i...Read more
ncreased especially with the torque available with the diesel motor. Fantastic car - so far the best I have owned. Styling, led lights (platinum), safety features, bluetooth, 6 speed auto, cooled and heated drivers electric seat Waiting period for delivery, bonnet opening because of an ill fitting headlight protector. Vision out of the back window. Front passenger seat needs cooling and electric. No GPS option.4 comments

ranty became a problem. Took 6 months to diagnose and fix problem. Also lots of call to Kia with promises of return calls which rarely eventuated. At least 5 full day trips to the dealership where car was purchased to fix problem (fixed on final trip thankfully). Had to pay for parts which did not fix the problem. Hoping for new Kia dealership to open soon. Still love the car but word of warning: "Be Careful with Warranty". Hoping my problems are an isolated incident as I am unimpressed with Kia Australia's lax attitude regarding Warranty. Trouble is new Kia cars have few problems nowadays and Kia sometimes appear unwilling to help when there is a problem.Reversing sensor problem solved - fault in the wiring. Still an air con leak 12 months after purchase - 5 times to dealership I bought it from Now not a Kia dealer. Have to wait for new Kia dealer to ... Read more
open here, been told dash has to be pulled apart to fix leak. 4 days work possibly no replacement car during this time. I still love the car but Kia customer service is appalling and am beginning to think next time buy the Hyundai equivalent even if the ix35 doesn't look as good or drive quite as nicely.1 year on and air conditioner leak still not solved. New Kia dealer has opened in Port Lincoln now and hopefully they can solve the problem. Am not happy with the way Kia has handled this problem. The... Read more
fact that they do not contact you when they say they will. This should have been fixed long ago and now they kept asking if the vehicle had been in an accident (it hadn't). Earlier I had even suggested the car go to a Hyundai dealer (it's virtually the same as ix35), but why wasn't this acted on.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Worth waiting for.
My 2012 Platinum Sportage 2.0 Diesel automatic finally arrived on June 21 and it was worth the wait, I am glad I chose the Techno Orange colour even though all my friends and family assumed I would get white. This is my second Sportage, originally a 1997 model, still running and survived 2 teenage sons. I also had a 2005 Sorento. Driving the vehicle is a breeze once you get used to all the gadgets, I like the keyless entry and have got used to the proximity key and the start/stop button, the automatic is very smooth, you can hardly feel it u...Read more
nless you put your foot down then the turbo diesel springs to life, first time I did it the gear in the back cargo area slid up to the rear hatch. Cruise control, Bluetooth, radio controls are easy to access and use, Bluetooth occasionally fails to connect but I just turn it off on my Nokia C5 and then back on again and all is fine. I am very happy with the new Sportage and can recommend it to anyone. I was happy that I had checked out every review on YouTube and on the internet as I had a better understanding of the new Sportage and its capabilities. I liked that almost every extra that I had wanted was included, especially the SatNav. You can't help but be impressed when you sit in the leather seats, I have now clocked up 1700 Km across all sorts of roads and tracks and am very impressed with its handling ability, I couldn't fault its handling in heavy rain it just hung on to every corner, the auto wipers and headlights make driving even easier, I am amazed how good the Daytime Running Lights (LED) are, very effective. Check out the alloy nudge bar before you buy, the tubing stops short under the bumper and doesnt attach to the chassis, it is really just a driving light bracket, albeit an expensive one, the steps that were fitted to mine seem to collect all the dirt thrown up by the wheels, some 'ends' on the steps would be nice to stop this from happening.4 comments

Style, performance and value
After test driving (almost) every comparable sized SUV on the market we concluded that no other vehicle offered the same drive, features and value as our Platinum diesel Sportage. It is a great, fun drive. Our first diesel, love the punchier acceleration and the many features. We are in Northern Queensland so the cooled drivers seat is a luxurious bonus. My daughter and wife love the panoramic moon roof.
It was not a decision entered into quickly. We tried to weigh cost, features, safety, economy, interior space, reliability and drive as our s...Read more

Lovely USV
I have it for a month, this SUV is true excellence performs and value. My Sportage is 2.0 Platinum Diesel automatic and fully listed features. I'm learning of those feature one after one. My first 1500km service is in next week. That is a little adjust of my rain-wipe, other than that it's perfect. Highly recommend to everyone.
Standout styling, excellent performance and value.
Brake is a bit too sensitive.

Great runabout
We bought a Platinum. Parking very easy with camera and reversing sensors, diesel power and 6 speed auto outstanding, leather seats to firm, but heating and cooling systems are a good idea. Smart key is very handy when hands are full. Steering can be vague when straight driving, leg room in back seat ok, sunroofs should be optional (QLD summer), dual zone A/C another great feature. I have a deal to buy kia 2012 platinum diesel 4wd for $15000 with 100000km on odometer. I am in a doubt whether I should buy this car or not as its Going to be 8 years old. Dealer is giving me extra 100000km warranty for extra $1200. Can anyone guide me is this a good deal to go for? Or i should buy a newer sportage?
1 answer
Check out car sales.com for comparative prices. It's done less than 13k per year so it's probably been well looked after and obviously not done much time on the road in 8 years. Price seems fine but low km is not always good for diesel particulate filters. If you buy it, fill it up with premium diesel and take it for a good highway run to clean it out. It's a kia, so mostly reliable.
Does it have a tow bar? Has it towed caravans? That can cause extra wear and tear on the rear suspension.
