Don't bother
I as SO excited and had been waiting for such a long time to buy a kitchen aid stand mixer. I had previously had a sunbeam.
I received it yesterday, it is a terrible design. You have to manually remove the beater, so your hands get covered in batter - it's ridiculous.
I am so disappointed and will never buy kitchen aid again,

Never again!
We were so excited when we brought our Kitchen Aid ksm5 home from the shop. We were building a new kitchen but couldn't wait to buy some of the applicances for it as we had always wanted a Kitchen Aid. Quelle horreur! The kitchen completion was delayed and delayed so it was a while before we used the mixer. For the first few times we used to to make mince (a friend's husband had been shooting and gave us a lot of wild venison) and sausages. So it was a while before we used the mixer for mixing. djustment. Went to the manual, found out how to do it, only to find the adjusting screw was seized solid. It wouldn't move at all. Too it back to the shop only to find that the mixer was two days out of warranty. OK, we'll pay for the repairs and left the machine. About 3 months later, after many phone calls, the shop called to say the mixer was back. Wonderful! Even better, it was only an adjustment so there was no charge. Picked up the mixer. Again, due to unforeseen circumstances, it was a while before we used it again for mixing only to find that it hadn't been repaired at all. The adjusting screw was still seized solid. Clearly they hadn't done anything at all. It is now more than 2 years since we purchased the machine and we still haven't been able to use it. If I could afford to I'd chuck the useless piece of rubbish into the harbour and buy a Bosco who, I believe, not only make a great machine but also give great customer service. Kitchen Aid no longer do either. i will never buy a Kitchen Aid appliance again and I strongly counsel everyone else not to go near them either.
