No matter which bread or how thick the slices, the edges burn every time while the middle stays untoasted. We've tried each setting and this happens if you have it on a low or high number, it just doesn't toast evenly at all. Very disappointed as we thought this would be a reliable brand, especially at this price point.

We bought this toaster specifically for the crumpet setting which is totally useless. It also cooks toast unevenly. I will never purchase another kitchenaid product, back to Sunbeam for me!

Fell in love with its beautiful streamlined looks! But that's all its good for - just looking at! Burns the crusts and leaves the middle bits of the bread uncooked, doesn't matter which setting it's on. Crumpets - forget trying to enjoy a crispy crumpet- Ah!! very frustrating. It burns the outer ring, leaves the middle just barely warm and does not cook the back side at all. It seems that on the "crumpet" setting the outer filaments of the toaster do not light up, so it only toasts the front of the crumpet - the bit with the holes. I almost cried when I had to take it back for a refund as it looked so pretty on my bench.

We bought this toaster about a week ago from The Good Guys and will be returning it - it burns the toast, especially the crusts. I wasted six pieces of bread trying to get a couple of decent bits of toast, adjusting the settings each time but it made no difference - the crusts still burned & I had to cut them off. We decided to spend more than we would normally because we wanted a good, reliable toaster and thought KitchenAid was a good brand, but honestly, our $20 K-Mart one does a better job.

Incredibly disappointed in this toaster. Costs a fortune and regardless of what type of bread we use or how thin or thickly sliced, it reliably burns the crusts and leaves the bread completely untoasted. We’ve tried “warming it up” by turning on without toast first, toasting repeatedly at the one setting but no matter what we do, the crusts burn and the bread remains untoasted, so every day our house fills with the smell of burning toast.

If it hadn’t cost so much I would throw it in the bin and by a toaster from the supermarket instead.

The toaster does not toast evenly. For the price and brand one would expect a much better product. Shortly after the year warranty expired one side of the toastser stopped heating and one month after that the lever would not stay down. Not something you would expect from a toaster at this price point.

Called kitchenAid and explained the situation. Waited in the phone for 15minutes before someone responded. They did not offer any way of repairing the unit or explanation as to why this happened. The representative then proceeded to close the line. I went online and found a bunch of reviews stating the same issues with both the product and customer service.

I hope that Kitchen Aid have fixed these issues as it seems to be a common fault.

The toaster looked great had some good functions, the most important function of a toaster it failed, that is to provide toast that is toasted reasonably evenly on both sides not black and tan. The toaster was given a fair trial, I had it replaced twice, that is 3 toasters with minimal if any improvement. I am bitterly disappointed with Kitchenaid's response I listened to the hold message for too long, a small statement by email, very poor. Myer were brilliant doing everything they could to help.

Wow This toaster is so bad, I’m impressed! How are they allowed to sell you this piece of dangerous rubbish. Annoyed I have to go back to shops now for a return. Shame and a sham, KitchenAid you’ve burnt your image with me now I’m afraid, excuse the pun! Big nope.

Pros - looks good and toasts quickly
Cons - burns edges, cooks unevenly (one side done and otherside not), lower toasting levels often toast just as much as medium levels causing a lot of burnt toast
What a massive waste of money!! will be going back to my beville toaster which was awesome but not as asthetically pleasing (but hey, who cares if it toasts perfectly)

We were so excited to have this great looking product with matching kettle in our kitchen..... I so wish I spent some time to look at the reviews prior to purchasing this Toaster.
As per all unfavourable reviews below, this Toaster is a flop and quite simply is not fit for purpose - a Toaster should toast, its simple. This one either toasts on one side, leaving the other still soft, or like a furnace not just burns, but incinerates your bread like nothing I’ve seen. This product set off our smoke alarms and in my opinion is a potential fire risk.
I love my kitchen Aid stand mixer, hence why I though the money would be well spent - this product is a fail and needs to be removed from the shelves of stores.

I bought this toaster because it looks great and I assumed, given the price, it would work. Was I wrong! What is the most important aspect of a toaster? To toast both sides of the bread evenly I would say. Well the KM4116 simply does not do this. It is black on one side and white on the other. I am on my second one and it is clearly a design faulty. I am returning this one for a cash credit and will go back to my $50 Sunbeam. Sack the toaster Engineer!

I saw this $200 toaster in Myer and thought it would look nice on our benchtop, which it does! I thought for $200 it should be able to cook toast, it does not. I took it home about two months ago, this toaster burns the edges of toast without cooking the reast of the bread. I wish i had looked at these reviews before buying. The reviews on this website and others are pretty much universally bad, on that basis Kleanaid is aware that it has a bad product on the market and is continuing to sell it. Bad practice.

The worst toaster i have ever purchased. Burned the toast no matter what setting. Not to mention very large and bulky in size. Very disappointing, I expected more from a 'reputable' brand who charge a fortune like Kitchen Aid. Returned it immediately. Dont waste your time & money! Avoid avoid avoid!

As per all of the other reviews this toaster is terrible. Under cooks on all settings. Have to put it down at least a couple of times and even then it's uneven. Took the first back to DJs thinking it was a dud but now realise the whole range is a dud. Back to DJs to hopefully swap it for another brand.

This toaster is simply useless. It hasn't done it's job from day one. No matter how many settings we have tried, it either just warms the bread or burns it. It is not fit for purpose. We mistakenly believed we were paying for a premium quality product in the Kitchen Aid brand. Unfortunately we were wrong. My husband is going back to Harvey Norman today to find a toaster that can actually do it's job and toast.

As with other reviews, this toaster either warms the bread or burns the toast. On the same setting for the morning (4), the bread is barely warmed for the first round of toast, then the subsequent rounds of toasting on the same setting, it burns the toast. For the $$$$, you would expect much better quality and performance. This toaster is not fit for purpose and was readily returned to the store for a better alternative. Same brand kettle failed too (handle broke whilst full of boiling water after 6 months of mild use). In my opinion, this is not even close to a quality brand and I will be staying well away from their products in the future and telling everyone I know to do the same.

We have always admired the kitchen aid range and have a number of their products.we purchased the toaster two weeks ago and everytime it burns the edges before the toast is cooked.we purchased the product at DJ's brisbane and have the warrenty papers but no longer the receipt or box as we thought the products reputation was without question, is their anything we can do to rectify this?
