I am concerned that a 20 inch bike will be too small for us. We are two women 5' 7" and 5' 8" respectively. We would go for the Milan which is 24" but with a higher seat due to the 80ah battery but we love the idea of the bike being able to fold up. thoughts? Also, what is the difference between the Libelle, Super T or Tirol?

My 11YO nephew has ridden my Super T 20". With the seat right down he was a bit small for it but still managed. I understand the difference is super T has rear suspension and a different middle bar. So far so good. The bike is easy to fold up but you need to make sure the latches are done up properly as with all folding bikes. I have the long life battery so I have no idea if any other battery affects ride height

I'm 5'11" and it's just the right size with the seat post adjusted properly even with 20 inch wheels. You'll have no problems at all

My peddle assist has stopped working. I have ridden my bike less than 30 minutes. I read the instructions and it said the distance of the magnets might need to be fixed. Where are the magnets and how are they moved closer to where they need to be?

2 answers

is it the peddle assist only? if the bike works in full electric mode then peddle assist is also working. Might the switch be faulty? Do the lights come on? Make sure the assistance is up fully to 3 lights, and that the red button on the right is also pressed. The magnets they're talking about might be the ones inside the electric motor. You can't change them. I didn't see that in my instructions, but those are the only magnets that are on an electric bike.

Super T

Hello Happy Owners,

I am considering buying a SuperT folding bike.

Has anybody tested the maximum gradient that one is able to climb with theses bike?
It's important for me as I need to climb a nasty slope to go home.
I have another electric bike (normal size wheels) and she get me only half way Max power setting, lowest gear and hard pedaling! walking it back on that slope is a real Hassle!
Thanks to all

We fly around the hills in Albany and do not use pedal assist maximums very much at all. . Paddock work, checking fence line I used throttle and some pedal which requires heaps of power. Had to adjust controller to be able to do this. The only time it looked like stopping was in 4 inch deep soft sand, a short crossing, and managed to get thru. I checked the motor for heating after a particularly challenging ride and it was fine. I haven't met an incline the bike couldn't climb. Yet. I would think using pedal assist maximum setting, low gear and pedal power you could go anywhere with the Super T. There is a lot of power in the motor.

Ckerr
Ckerr

I haven't had an incline the bike didn't handle. If you don't/can't pedal during the incline it may be a slow ascent but the bike will handle it. Gear down to 1st gear on hills and pedal lightly without breaking out a hernia or a sweat --- you'll definitely get up that hill.

Brian
Brian

The nastiest hill in Collie is locally known as Churchy Hill, there is a church on the top.
Now this hill I COULD NOT hope to ride a bike a quarter way up it without having to stop before I colapsed in a heap.
But, with the motor on max setting and low to seceond low gear, it is a doddle. Up and over with barely a raised breath.

Leitner E.Leitner

Hi, thanks for your question. The Libelle has a top speed of 25 km/h on the flat (quicker if going downhill) and the standard battery goes up to 50km on one charge, the bigger 16ah battery goes up to 80km. please find all the info at www.leitner.com.au/electric-bikes.html and we are also happy to answer all your questions over the phone 1300 856 725. Not once have I got near 50 kay on my Leitner and I peddle and it is flat how any one gets fifty kays out of charge is a mystery I have no complaints about the bike but it does not do 50 kay the distance is a variable depending on your tyre pressure your weight the terrain wind resistance etc There is no way of determining actual distance on charge about 36 to 40 kays is maximum

bob.eades.7
bob.eades.7

Yes I agree with Tom, the distance travelled and the speed depend uponmany things such as:
* Tyre pressure
* Rider's weight
* Wind direction and strength
* Pedal Assist - used or not
* Amount of throttle used (flat out or just cruising)
* Terrain, flat, little gradients, big hills etc
Plus heaps more variables.
Personally, with the bigger 16Ah battery i get about 50kms with around 30% pedal assist and 70% throttle and fairly flat terrain on my SuperT.

Just wondering how hard the bikes are to pedal without the electric motor assistance? I ask as if i wanted to go for a longer ride and the battery ran out, would it be comfortable to just pedal it home? I would imagine the electric motor resists a little whilst pedaling?

Frank
Frank

It's years since I last rode a bike and I was much younger then so I find it a bit hard to compare the Leitner with a normal bike.
However I can say that it takes a bit of effort to ride without the electric assist, probably due to the extra weight and perhaps drag of the electric motor when not engaged.
Depends on how fit you are but it's probably best to keep an eye on the battery level and how far to get home.
Must say that I find the electric assist great and I couldn't go near as far without it.

Leitner
Leitner E.Leitner

Thanks for your question Ezzablue and thanks Frank for your reply.
It is possible to pedal without assistance, but it's a bit harder as compared to pushbikes. When riding an ebike you'll quickly get a good idea of how far you can go and it is rarely necessary to pedal without battery. There is a battery charge display on the handle bar.
How far are you planning to go? The standard battery goes up to 50km and the and the bigger battery goes up to 80km which is plenty of distance for most riders. If you're planning to go for longer trips, it's recommended to buy the bigger battery.

I have not ridden a normal (not powered) bike for years and would be in strife if i had to pedal home. I downloaded the free app 'Map my Ride' which details time riding, distance travelled and speed. With this you will get a feel of what your bike will do and NEVER go over 50% of what it will do else you wont get home. On my SuperT there are only 6 gears so pedalling is not easy at speed, the lower ratios are good but once you get it going you cannot go fast as you cannot pedal to keep up with it.
Hope this helps

Is there anywhere we could test ride the bikes before deciding which one to purchase please? We are currently on holiday in Northern NSW but live on the mornington peninsula vic. I'm unsure whether to get the 26 or 20 inch folding bike. We want to carry 2 bikes in our caravan so i suspect I've answered the question 20 inch will fold upto a smaller package. Leitner E.Leitner

Hi Ian, thanks for your message.
It seems that the foldup bikes would suit you better as they fold up into a small package and are easy to store. Some customers choose the 26inch bikes and carry them e.g. on a rear rack. We don't sell accessories like storage bags, however if you ask at a local bike shop they may be able to help you.
We are an online-shop, that's why you can buy Leitner Electric Bikes at much lower prices as compared to brick and mortar shops. Test ride locations can be found here https://www.leitner.com.au/shops/ The closest one to you would be on Philip Island. Please follow the link above and contact the rental shop there to make an appointment.
Feel free to call us on 1300 856 725. We are happy to answer all your questions to make sure that you buy a bike which suits you.

I believe the weight is 30.5kg. But if you go on-line and view the video, all is revealed there. We also bought the foldaway bikes with the larger battery life so the weight inclusive may be heavier than other bikes. You will need to research your preferred bike and then check out the specifications for that bile. www.leitner.com very helpful is Sam. Hope this answers your question.

The Super T folding bike weighs exactly 24.0kg, including battery. I weighed it myself.

It seems the answer has been supplied. However if I were to take the bike in my small car, I'd remove the battery to make it easier to lift after folding.

My bike lives on my front verandah behind glass and I have to carry it up 3 steps and through a sliding door. It's no lightweight with the optional long range battery and though I can manage ok as a burly bloke...I think a petite lady would have concerns.

Cheers.

Mike.

Hi, I see you can buy a spare 10 Ahn battery but can you also order a higher performance battery? I've bought a bike (yet to be delivered) with the 10Ahn battery but would like the option, later on, to buy a better performance battery if it turns out the 10Ahn one isn't enough. I'm sure other bike owners would like this as an option too, especially those who had the higher performance battery to start with but then, after time, need to buy a replacement. Many thanks Bronwyn

Hi Bronwyn, thanks for your message. Yes, all battery types can be purchased either via our website https://www.leitner.com.au/electric-bikes.html or by calling us on 1300 856 725.
When it comes to choosing a battery type, it is recommended to choose the correct battery type upfront, as the batteries are slightly different in size and not interchangeable.
For example if you are planning to go on long trips, it's recommended to purchase the bigger 16ah battery upfront.
Some customers buy a bike with a standard battery and a spare standard battery for long trips.
I hope this helps.

Dear Leitner customers,
If you need customer support, please contact us at [email protected] or call 1300 856 725 and we will work with you on a solution. Our business hours are Mo-Fr 9am-5pm Melbourne time.
As of 9 October 2015 we are working with technicians who repair Leitner bikes in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra and Perth. If you are living in a different area, it may be possible to find a local technician on request. If there is no technician close to you, there are the following options: You can ship the bike to a technician close to you (please keep the cardboard box of your bike) or, if you are comfortable with it, we can discuss the issue with you and provide you with instructions on how to trouble-shoot the problem yourself and how to swap parts.

Hi Sandy,
thanks for buying a Leitner bike. Sorry to hear about the issue and my apologies that we couldn't take your call yesterday after-hours. Thanks for your call today in the morning. After discussing your issue with us, you have advised that the solution which suits you best, is to express post replacement parts to you, with a detailed guide how to swap them. Electric Folding Bicycle

Does weight matter with regard to tyre size. I have a very small fibreglass motor home so the idea of a fold up bike appeals but my concern is that constantly folding and unfolding will weaken the lock which I worry would cause the bike to fold while riding it. Also as I am over 100kg would it be safer to get a fixed model with larger wheels? How long does it take to fully charge a flat battery?

4 answers
Jen S

I have not yet had the need to fold up my bike yet so can't help you with that. Regarding charge time, I ride 24 ks round trip to work and charge overnight in between. I missed a charge one night and got to work, but only half way back! I guess the smaller wheels made the ride without pedal assistance a bit trickier. I am 70kgs and the ride is a bit hilly. Load and hill size make a difference to battery life. I am really happy with my bike. It has been such a fabulous investment and I'm using it much more than I thought I would.

Anthony Axt

The tires are heavy duty, much thicker than normal bike tyres. Some riders on road/racing bikes weigh over 100 kgs so I can't imagine any issues with regard to weight on these tyres. The bike is really well engineered and I wouldn't worry about folding & opening it. It locks into place via a latch and then an adjustable lever flips over & holds the mechanism secure. I like the convenience of being able to fold the bike. We put the Leitner bike & 2 other folding bikes in the boot of my Skoda Octavia with one seat folded down and three of us go for rides. The battery takes 4-6 hours to charge from 25 % remaining charge. Good luck!

Hi Trevor,
thank for your message and thanks for purchasing a Leitner eBike. Our records show that you have purchased a 16ah battery. It should give you about 80km range on one charge (based on a 70kg rider on the flat with pedal assist). The battery should not wear down after only three months, as they are certified to last for at least 500 full charges and you are also covered by a 1 year warranty. Hi Larry, thanks for your message.
The bike with the 26" inch wheels should suit your height. Both the handle-bar and seat can be adjusted in height to suit your needs. I am 183cm and the bike feels comfortable to ride. The batteries are certified to last for at least 500 full charge cycles. If you fully charge it e.g. 100 times a year it will last for about 5 years. Regards, Ephraem Leitner www.leitner.com.au

Hi Larry. I am only 173cm so I can only speak for myself. However, I can't see any reason why someone of your height wouldn't feel comfortable riding the bike as long as you keep the tyres pumped up. As Ephraem explained, both the handle-bar and seat can be adjusted in height to suit your needs and depending on how often you use the bike, the battery should last you about 5 years so I'm led to believe.

Good luck

Can you explain the difference between 20" and 26" in term of look and performance for man like me so used
26" bike?

3 answers
batmann
batmann

Hi Larry, thanks for your question.
The difference is that the 20inch wheel bikes are a bit smaller than the 26inch wheel bikes and that the 20inch bikes can be folded into a small package if you want to. The 26inch bikes can't be folded at this stage (23 March 2015).
The look is very similar as you can see on the pictures at www.leitner.com.au
The performance is also very similar. Both bikes have exactly the same motor power and battery.
Generally speaking, both bikes are suitable for tall riders. The 20inch bike is suitable if you want to have the flexibility of folding it up to make it easier to put it into your car, camper van or public transport. Riders who are about 5foot 2 to 5foot4 may find the 20 inch bikes more suitable, as the seat height on the 26inch bikes can only be lowered to about 84cm (or 82cm if the seat pole is cut) and it may be too high.
I hope this helps.
Feel free to message us if you have any further questions.

Regards, Ephraem Leitner

Hi Larry, the look of both bikes would be similar but as far as performance goes, the 26" bike would probably be better for longer rides in my opinion because of the size of the wheels.
