Terrible road noise
We rented a new Mazda 3 for three weeks in NZ. This is much better than a test drive in the city.
There is a lot to like about this car. The interior has quality materials and it is well equipped.
Like a lot of Japanese cars it has a now old fashioned engine and automatic gearbox. Despite that it has impressively low fuel consumption. Overtaking above 80 kmh results in lots of noise and not a lot of acceleration. You learn to accept that, and work around it.
The main problem which a city test drive won't show up is road noise above about 60...Read more

Hoped for better start with a new car.
I purchased the Mazda 3 mid 2015 new - the performance is great especially on the open road. When backing out of our garage and moving from reverse to forward there is a extended delay and jerk in moving forward - not the best on a busy road.
Interior - The high head rests on the front seats are very restrictive when looking for vehicles approaching from the LHS (passenger) of the car while reversing. The manual seat movement of the front passenger seat is a pain. The leg room in the rear is very constrained for anyone but a small child.

e car has been very reliable, note that I have only done just over 6,000Km. The oil will need a top-up very soon, which is unexpected, I hope that after the first servicing and the engine is settled down this will improve.

Decent Entry Car under $30K
Decent car for all the bells & whistles for the price paid.
Came with all the things needed: reversing camera, sensors, GPS, bluetooth, etc.
Only complaint would be the outside noise and rattling of the windows even at low speeds.
Seems to be a common complaint in all the forums, and even the service centre couldn't fix it.
Got rid of it after a year to go back to a German made car.

Perfect car for an EPIC PRICE
The 2014 Mazda3 is by far the best car for the money. The service on the car is one of the cheapest to keep running. Very smooth ride. Great safety features such as it lets you know when a car is in your blind spot can't live without it. It is a classy looking car you will not be ashamed to drive it. Best car I have ever owned. I have 30,000 miles on it and when it is time for a new car I will be buying another one. I live in PA. If you are looking for a great dealership I highly recommend Scott Mazda on Lehigh Street in Allentown PA. They will...Read more

Mazda they just work
I commute about 30,000 Kim's per year and the Mazda just works. They blue tooth is amazing the sat nav intuitive and the stereo is great. Its a great little car but the seats could be a little more supportive, but I am now being picky.
I will look at different tyres as there is a bit of road noise.
Overall a great car and although I have the top of the line, when I test drove the other models they went just as good.
AN UPDATE
2 years on and I still love the car. I have had it regularly serviced through Rockdale Mazda who are amazing.
Only a few issues to date
The sunroof seal was very slightly worn and I pointed this out to the dealer, they contact Mazda and it was replaced at no charge

SP25GT / Responsive, well-equipped, good looking car
Purchased a brand new Mazda 3 SP25GT from Melbourne City Mazda in September 2015. The vehicle is quite engaging with responsive and precise handling; the fuel economy is very good considering I’ve only done 3400 km so far (7.5 l/100km average). The Auto transmission offers shifts that are remarkably intelligent, quick, responsive and smooth. Overall it has a refined substantial-feeling ride quality. The i-stop feature works quite well compared to other vehicles.
The vehicle has the look and feel of a more expensive car inside, in many aspects....Read more

Fabulous drive
This car is lovely to drive. The i-stop feature is great when stuck in traffic and makes the car really fuel efficient. It is a very smooth drive and the leather seats are really comfortable. The SatNav and entertainment system are excellent too. It has a reversing camera and all the bells and whistles you need. There's nothing I don't like about this car.

Second Mazda 3 I've owned. Love the drive!
The first car I bought out of uni was a 2004 Mazda 3 Maxx Hatch. Loved that car and never had any faults with it throughout the whole 4 years I owned it; even though it was already 4 years old and had 160K km on the clock. Updated to the new 2014 model last year and my love for these cars continues. Ridiculously smooth to drive, reliable and quick. Don't think I'll ever own anything else!

I love its shape, it gives a good average currently giving me 22 which is too good. Performance wise its the best, drive is very comfy and has all the features a guy is looking forward to in his first owned car.
Moreover it is not thay expensive to maintain either, accessories are easily available.

Great car
I bought my Mazda 3 hatch new in 2015, base model. Great to drive to work on the highway as well as around town and easy parking with sensors. Looks great. Better than my previous 2011 Mazda 3 model I had although that car was good. Traded that car at 50,000 kms and still had original tyres.

Great so far
I bought my 2014 SP25 as a demo in June 2015 with 600km, it now has just shy of 9000km. I am very happy with this car,
Good: it is easy to drive, handles well and has enough power for any situation when driven spiritedly, it is also very economical when driven conservatively, the clutch is light and easy enough for a novice manual driver to operate.
Bad: Road noise can be quite loud on some road surfaces which can be an issue when you can't hear the radio over the noise.
Good: The interior is high quality, the seating is comfortable for a t...Read more

surprised
Just purchased mazda 3 SP25GT and I am so happy with this car. It is very well made and the fit and finish is excellent inside and out. This car drives and handles beautifully with a powerful 2.5L engine. The car has all the modern technology and value for this price. I would recommend anyone looking for a car in this size to test drive the mazda 3 and you will be pleasantly surprised.

Mazda 3 Astina 2014
Exciting drive, packed with features. Fun drive with a feeling of total control. The heads up display gives you all the relevant information without drawing your eye from the road. Radar cruise control takes some getting use to but makes a long drive so easy, allowing your car to monitor the car in front and accelerate and slow down accordingly. I did encounter some issues when connecting the car to a wifi hotspot. This has not been resolved and is intermittent. The sounds system is excellent with 9 speakers. For the sound enthusiast, you will ...Read more
love the sound system, not only using FM, but Pandora Radio and 2 usb inputs. The ride is firm but comfortable. At low speeds the steering is very quick and at high speeds the steering changes and is more forgiving for small tweaks in the steering. Outside, the car just looks beautiful, smooth and ready to pounce - 1.5 years on same car. After looking back through my initial review, everything still stands. The car is still as fun as ever to drive. The Mazda 3 is incapable of boring you. The power still puts a smile on my face, and on those long drives, the fuel economy still astounds me. Mazda has done an outstanding job when they put this car together. Could they improve anything? I lived with this car, day in, day out. Long drives, daily commutes for over a year. The result - I wouldn't change a thing. Zoom Zoom Zoom Mazda. Fuel efficient, very sporty and fun drive Internet connection issuesSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Great Car
I bought my Mazda 3 GT Sedan secondhand. I have owned it for a few weeks. It is a great car with plenty of technology and safety features. Pleasure to drive, looks great and feels robust. Very economical fuel consumption, and plenty of room on the inside for passengers and cargo alike. I would not hesitate in buying one again. Great buy for the price point. The Astina seems a little overpriced but the GT certainly is value and features together in one.

Amazing fuel economy
I bought the Maxx manual sedan, approx. 1 month ago. Drove to Sydney and back about 2,500 kilometres, and averaged 5.1 /100. Staggering for a brand new motor still tight, and that included 500 odd K's around town!
Like most reading this I was awash with choice in this segment, and test drove them all. I nearly bought the i30, but the extra ooomph of the 2 litre Mazda 3 was my end choice.
It's a nice car, has all the stuff and toys needed, very light steering and so quiet. istop took a little while to get used to in Sydney traffic, but it...Read more
really is as seamless as they say. The fuel economy was amazing as already mentioned. The 6 speed gear box was smooth and concise and not an issue in a city(I live in a rural area of QLD). If I had to nit pick, i'd say the seats where a tad on the hard side after a few hours. The car is good, and you wont be disappointed if you go the Mazda3 over the others you are deciding over, it wont be a bad decision.2 comments

1 strange issue now that i think of it. I got the windows tinted as you do in QLD, and I have noticed the drivers window is being rubbed in just 1 section. It is scoring the tint over time. I've never had this issue on any other vehicle before, and it's not happening on any other window. Nothing bad of course, just something I've never seen before.OK time for another review of my Mazda 3.

great pocket rocket
Updated my car in September for the new Mazda turbo diesel. Very impressed with the drive, heaps of grunt. Infact it has the same motor as the CX5 diesel. I average around 5.6 lts per 100ks. the adaptive cruise control is fantastic.it does take a little bit odd time to get used to. For example if you put you're cruise control on 110 and the traffic in your lane slows down your car will allow down too, that's great, but if you get behind a car that does not maintain the current speed limit then you could end up doing a considerably slower speed. ...Read more
Seats look great, better than the standard Mazda seats and more comfortable than just leather. Info Nat system is good. It does not do real time traffic alerts ( but not many cars do) bizeon headlights are a bonus as they move according to the direction your taking. Toasty warm with heated seats in the winter. Road noise is present, but turn up that awesome stereo and it won't bother you. Negatives... Not many..... No air vent in back for passengers, no light in glove box, only driver has electric seat And the boot is very heavy to lift up.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Design faults not recalled
This is a very popular vehicle that has design faults that were never dealt with by Mazda. The transmission seems prone to failure and the TCM is positioned on top of the transmission. When the transmission fails you will not only have to bear the considerable cost of a transmission rebuild ($3,000) but as the transmission overheats it also burns out the badly positioned TCM... another $1,200. This issue is so pronounced that there are waiting lists at most wreckers wanting second hand TCM units. This issue should make you think twice about purchasing subsequent Mazda 3 models.

Test Drive 3 Maxx 2014
Out of the three vehicles that I test drove, the Mazda 3 Maxx came across as the better bet. I have recently been dealing with a 'lemon' of a car (may post details later), and am very nervous of making the same mistake by going for what appears to be the best of everything. 1st test: The Honda Civic VTi-S attracted me the most (appearance) and drove very quietly; a 'classy vehicle' (two test drives - not as much grunt as Hyundai). Second: The Hyundai i30 drove even better than the Honda (two test drives). Third: The Mazda 3 Maxx - more grunt, drove well, seems the best all round, happy with interior finishes and has Sat Nav (will test drive again before buying).

No regrets so far
I have had my Mazda 3 Touring for over 6 months now. It is a great car and so far no regrets. Classy and quite quite roomy interior, lots of high tech stuff, good fuel economy. And after recently having driven a same vintage Toyota Corolla, I am so glad I didn't buy one of them. From the Corolla's drivers seat, it feels very cramped (I'm only 5'7") and the windscreen is narrow, like you are looking through a letterbox not, to mention seeing virtually nothing out the back window. Also the dash is very downmarket in its design whereas the 3's is ...Read more
all class. I am a designer by day so I like to think that I have some authority to make that judgment. It has been remarked that the touchscreen on the Mazda sitting up on the dash looks like a tacked on afterthought (ie. where you find it on BMWs and Audis with the central control dial) but it is exactly where you want it, and Mazda have obviously know it is the best spot for it. If you want to get fussy, this is what you could say: - The syncing of the touch screen isn't 100% and occasionally does not sync. The screen is a bit low res compared to the Corolla and should have better compatibility with iPhones. I think if you have an Android phone it will read aloud your SMSes. - Every now and then the satnav doesn't work. You have to turn the car off and restart it. There is obviously some software glitch there. - I wish the automatic headlights would come on a bit sooner like in rain or late afternoons, and now and then the auto wipers don't wipe when there is rain on the windscreen - I accidentally locked my keys in the boot one day and had to go through a very convoluted procedure to retrieve them. And luckily I had left my window open that day or I would have been completely stuffed... - Headrests were very uncomfortable. I had them modified after I bought the car. - There should be better scuff protection at the base of the doors. By day two I had scratched them. - The Mazda accessory driving/fog lights that I bought hoping to get better headlight range (I do a lot of highway driving) are pretty useless.Similar opinion? Was wondering if anyone has had issues with the MZ Connect system? I have a Mazda 3 Hatch BM MY2015 SP 25 Astina. Just under a year of getting it new, the " your over the speed limit" woman started going silent, yet you could tell that she was trying as the right ( driver) side speaker would be off, with music still coming through the left ( passenger) speaker. And this would happen more so if apps like Pandora were active. I've had one fix, that didn't fix it. There is another one due in a few weeks but there must be more than one driver having this issue!

I haven't had any major problems, I just use the music connected to an iPod & the navigation, it has crashed a few times but generally works well.
Yes I had this problem. It started when I had a service in October 2016. Just had another service and it has stopped doing it thanks to them updating softare or just reinstalling whatever version is currently out. Hope this helps :)
Thanks

Update after 10000km and 12 months of ownership.
Missing some of the “little things” holds back the Mazda 3 from true greatness. The rear passenger space is disappointing, rear passengers find it difficult to get in and out of the vehicle due to the low roof line and door width opening. Also poor ventilation in the rear in summer due to the lack of rear passenger vents. The Mazda3 needs considerable improvements in terms of reducing cabin noise. Big missing item: There is no door-lock switch (only the manual lock and unlock knob in the door). Also when the car reaches a certain speed the doors do not lock itself. Also when switching into Park the doors do not unlock automatically. The biggest issue is the paint which is extremely thin and soft. Lots of small paint chips after only 12 months of ownership. Mazda forums say Mazda has some of the worst paint in the industry and that it's very thin and prone to chipping. Any and all road debris will cause chipping to the undercoat. I understand chipping is part of normal wear and tear, but unfortunately, the chipping on the Mazda 3 is beyond normal wear and tear, when compared to other vehicles I have own. I live in an urban area where road debris is limited. Overall, it is a good vehicle but the paint issue is a high concern when compared to other vehicles (ie European). The appearance of the last generation Mazda 3 will deteriorate pretty quickly due to the lack of paint durability, which in return will be reducing any future trade-in/resale value. The problem could be related to the latest paint technology introduced by Mazda: http://www.mazda.com/en/innovation/technology/env/other/paint_tech/The Mazda 3 continues to drive well with no mechanical issues after 12 months of ownership and 10000 km. Fuel economy is very good and ranges between 7.2 to 7.4 l/100km.
However….is not perfect. ... Read more
