A quick summary of ownership.
1. Handling, smooth; understeer, disconnected from the road.
2. Performance, 2.2litre twin turbo diesel: smooth and perky, at times feels like a petrol, noisy.
3. Noise, lots of road and wind noise penetrating the cabin.
4. Easy to navigate dash unit, plenty of leg room, boot space is good in the X and Y dimension but falls short on the Z dimension.
5. Reliability: 4 years so far, nil issues. Ask a mechanic, my individual report is not a big enough sample size.
6. Diesel true litres/100km is about 6.9 with the air conditioning cranked up with 50% high way and 50% town driving.

Great car but lacks a lot of power
Recently purchased a 2017 Mazda 6 Atenza, which is the top of the line model with beautiful shadow chrome wheels. This car looked the goods in the showroom and lived up to it's hype during the test drive.
With DAB Radio, GPS & Active Cruise Control along with comfortable Nappa Leather seats it seemed like the perfect family car for a family with 2 tall adult boys.
However, upon receiving the car and having driven it for just under 3 months, I'd have to say it is fairly mediocre. The 2.5L engine in the car starts to rev incessantly while a...Read more
ttempting to climb steep hills. There isn't as much overtaking power as any of the previous cars we have owned in a similar fashion (previous car was a 2012 Mercedes C250 for reference) But the worst and most painful problem would have to be the GPS system. There are some mornings where it'll just never load.. like absolutely never load. When it does load, the touchscreen on it is horrendous irregardless of whether I'm pressing the screen hard or soft. I think the GPS system would be this cars biggest downfall.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Excellent car inside and outside
My 2nd Mazda. Had a Mazda 3 for 8 years with no problems.
Had a 2013 Mazda 6 GT wagon since February and delighted with it so far. Design is as good as any in its class. Build quality inside and outside is excellent.
The GT are shod with 225 45 R19 which are quite pricey. Had to replace at 50,000km.
I am quite tall and my wife much shorter so the two memory seat adjustments work very well for us.
Bose sound system is really nice and the Bluetooth function works well too.
Handling is superb, especially in hilly terrain.

2017 Update: Very nice hi spec car I have the GT model. Only minor disappointment is the 19 wheels, which pick up every bump in the road and the tyres are very expensive being a non- standard size.

very good car
The car is VERY quiet. Handles very good, although it has 17inch wheels. Plenty of power when needed and going along the hwy uses about 5 litres of fuel per 100kms. Like the auto wipers, lights and mirror. The lights follow the direction of the steering wheel.
Bad things: very expensive to change the oil. The 10 liter container will cost around $140. The radio has no volume that adjust to speed of the vehicle.

No problems so far
So far so good. Haven't had any major problems as I do an enormous amount of driving. A couple of other cars I have owned haven't been able to keep up the pace but this little beauty seems to handle well, which in my line of work is always a blessing.
thanks mazda :)

Love hate relationship
Purchased this car second hand, and it did everything i wanted it to. It just didn't do anything well.
Love the look, love the premium feel & all the features, plus very safe and advanced safety features for the year model.
We did have a few issues, that were all rectified quickly by the company. The keyless entry system needed maintenance, the front door subwoofers needed replacing, fuel average was higher than it said it was, even driving like a grandma, but still much better than petrol equivalent. Road noise is my main complaint though and i don't understand when people say interior room is huge..its tiny!
Despite the growing list of flaws i found in this car, i still love it.

2016 Mazda 6 Touring - Not a bad car but....
I traded my 2001 Millenia (Eunos 800) for this then the Mazda 6. Not a bad car - it's the same size as the Millenia so no complaints about room etc. The ride is not quite as luxurious but I'm getting used to it. My one and only real complaint is the infotainment/GPS system.
1. The system can and will reboot at any given moment. This of course can be rather annoying if your using the GPS.
2. Music will not resume playing after ending a phone call.
3. The GPS will attempt to announce a direction and fade the music to the left side of th...Read more

Very good except for ...
I also have a Mazda MX5, so the Mazda 6 was intended to be a practical vehicle more than a fun car. It is generally driven conservatively but responds well when pushed and handles surprisingly well. I particularly like the electronic gadgetry. Lane departure warning, Blind Spot monitoring, Radar Cruise Control etc which make highway cruising a delight. It is comfortable, well laid out and draws very favourable comments from people who ride in it. Fuel economy is better than my MX5 and a lower grade of fuel also helps reduce running costs.

t has only done approx 24000 kms but they have been trouble free. I have two complaints. One is that the TomTom GPS does not have live traffic updates. The salesman misled me on this point. If I had known it, I would not have bought the vehicle. And the dealer (Hornsby Mazda) is annoying because they continually try to arrange service months before it is due and the 'Next Service' window sticker shows the service is due 2-3 months less than Mazda recommend. In summary, the vehicle has been very good but the purchase and service experience has not.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

PUSH BUTTON IGNITION MAZDAS WITH PUSH BUTTON IGNITION
Tow truck drivers have reported a high level of failure with the push button start ignition switch.
Some tow truck drivers have reported they have had numerous call outs to to pick up these cars .
Owners have been stranded due to the push button ignition failing to start the car.
The inconvenience and towing expenses are a bad refection on this new ignition system.

A SUPERB VEHICLE
I replaced (just ten days ago) my 2013 Mazda 6 Touring with the most up to date 2017 Mazda 6 Touring. The changes to the new vehicle are excellent and the car is a dream to drive. Even though my 2013 vehicle had only done 41,500km without any problems I was keen to update to this latest model. The added safety features are more than a bonus. Reversing camera is definitely sharper than my previous one. The sound system has definitely improved. Leather seats are comfortable for both driver and passengers. I have owned Mazda 626 and various Mazda 6 since 1982 and nothing would induce me to change to another brand as I believe Mazda produces an excellent car which would be hard to beat in this price range.

A car for people who love driving!
Wow! When I got behind the wheel of the Mazda 6 turbo diesel it was an instantaneous bonding moment! This car takes off fast with 420nm of torque coming on at 2000rpm through a dual phase turbo. The Mazda 6 had continually won awards as the best sedan in Australia for the price, so that is why I chose to take it for a test drive, not once but 3 times! I found that the petrol version was sluggish and stodgy, but not so the diesel!
The car has a lot of power, it is very smooth on the road, its handling on winding roads is amazing and fun, its ...Read more
fuel economy is great and the car is a pleasure to drive. Having previously driven a Falcon and a Commodore on the same routes, I am getting over twice as good fuel economy in the Mazda, whilst driving for fun, not fuel economy! On the highways, the car wants to go fast. I believe that 130km per hour is what the car really wants to sit on, but unfortunately that is a bit too high for our road laws. I have had 5 good sized adults in the car several times and the car is quite roomy. The boot is huge. The GPS is great, the Bose sound system with 11 speakers is outstanding, the front, rear, blind spot and rear collision sensors are excellent. The instrument panel and the lay out of the leather interior is outstanding. The only criticism is that on certain road surfaces the tyres are a bit noisy. But for me this car is heads and shoulders above the pack and the best car for my needs. I enjoy driving it every day and am ecstatic that I purchased it! It was the many positive reviews from owners of recent Mazda 6's and the great car site reviews, that got me to look at the Mazda 6 in the first place. My quest was to find the best car to drive under $40,000 and I certainly found it!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Good driving but bad entertainment/GPS system - it doesn't work properly don't buy
I just bought a Mazda 6 GT for 3 months and I regret it. I bought a brand new car and have paid a lot of money for it. Driving performance so far been good. Mazda’s interior is really nice and I can't complaint, however since week 1 I have problem with the Entertainment/GPS (MZD system). Sometimes the clock don't work it stays as 00:00 and do not move. Sometimes the Bluetooth doesn't work, it doesn't import contact list, can't dial out, sometime the Bluetooth drop off completely while you in a middle of a conversation hence no phone calls c...Read more
an be made. The radio stops working and start working whenever it likes, hence you end up with no music at all. The GPS lady sometime talk to you and sometimes don't, obviously most of the time it doesn't work. I do understand when there's a problem and people are willing to help you fix the problem but the dealership in "Max Kirwan Mazda Preston" is really bad. The service department is not willing to help you at all. I explain to them the problem of my new car and I believe being a brand new car and being their customer they should be there to help me out in regards to getting me a courtesy car with Mazda Head Office but nope, they clearly say it has nothing to do with them if I want a courtesy car while they trying to rectify and fix the problem I have to deal with head office myself. I have never had to dealt with the head office when it’s to do with warranty issue (my previous car was a BMW), the dealership deals with head office on your behalf and that’s how it should be. I'm very disappointed with Mazda as I know this is a wide issue and they are well aware that their entertainment/GPS system doesn't work properly. They should recall their products and shouldn't be putting it into new cars until they can test that it does work perfectly. I spoke to their representative and they try to blame on the iphone how they can't accommodate the new software that iphone come out all the time. They did a software re-install for me at the 1000km service but it still doesn't work. I left a few messages with the Mazda head office and up until now no one have call me back. Very very disappointed I will never buy a Mazda again as I now have to battle to try and get this fix for my brand new car. This is a daily problem for me right now. I do believe that if you buy a new product regardless of the value it should work properly or else money back please.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Beautiful to drive, luxurious comfortable car!
We have recently returned from a cross country adventure from Melbourne to Perth with our recently purchased Mazda 6, this car doesn't miss a beat, if it could it would drive itself. It is very comfortable, the engineering allows the driver to sit comfortably without feeling fatigued. I drove a minimum of 12 hours each day, and got out at the end feeling refreshed, with no aches or pains. The power also designed into this car means there is no effort in overtaking large road vehicles. Fuel economy is exceptional on average 835 klm to the tank...Read more

A sleek, well-designed car, but not the most fuel efficient or the best ride quality
The Mazda 6 reminds one of a sporty, luxe car, but at a fraction of the cost of an actual luxury car. I can't praise the designers of the car enough; it's just so sleek, both on the inside and outside. It is one of the more visually appealing cars on the road, and I often find myself gazing at other Mazda 6's on the road as they pass by, because they really do catch your attention. The seats (heated at the front, may I add) are leather with red stitching, which is what gives it it's sporty vibe, as well as has a hand-stitched leather steering w...Read more
heel. The leather on the steering wheel is actually so smooth that it could be an issue for some people due to the lack of grip, but it isn't really a big deal in reality, and shouldn't be what prevents you from buying this car. The i-stop function is one of the characteristics that sets this car apart from others; when enabled, anytime the driver is at a traffic light or intersection, the car's engine automatically switches off, and restarts within a second whenever the driver wants to move again. This function operates so smoothly in action; it's like the engine hums back to life, and it all happens in just a second. The engine, when it is running, is very quiet, and handling is very smooth and responsive; nothing out of the ordinary there. There is plenty of legroom, the seats can be adjusted via levers which slide the seats up and down, forward and backward, for you. We have had no issues with this car whatsoever, and we drive it twice a day or more every day of the week, which speaks for itself in terms of reliability, and we've had this car since 2013. It isn't the perfect car, however; the ride is not the best. It can be quite bumpy, especially for those in the backseat, and fuel efficiency is nothing to write home about. Especially in the summer when the AC is often turned on, you really have to watch out because the fuel tank will run down fast. Overall, this is an excellent quality car by Mazda, and this is represented in the price; at the end of the day, you pay for what you get.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

A great car
I have a 2013 Mazda 6 Atenza wagon and just updated my wife's car with a 2017 P series Mazda 6 GT sedan. The difference in both comfort and NVH levels is outstanding right down to the double glazing of the side front windows in an effort top reduce noise. A much better car to drive with better comfort. Mazda Connect works well and the overall finish of the vehicle is excellent. Would highly recommend as a premium vehicle.

Great car.
Waited for the 2017 version. Well worth the wait. Similar to drive to the Honda but way better. Unfair to compare an older car to a new one but. Like the safety features, ride, drive, space, performance, fuel consumption, voice control, paintwork which glistens in the sun, leather interior. Heaps more. What can I say this is a great car.

Mazda 6 Wagon Safety Pack
I bought my Mazda 6 Sport Wagon (Safety Pack) in May 2016 and have done just over ten thousand kilometres until November 2016. I choose the 2.5lt petrol in Soul Red with slimline weathershields, bonnet and headlight protectors and floor mats. I am immensely happy with the car's overall performance and economy at 6.6 lt/100klm. The NVH levels are a vast improvement from my old Mazda 626 GE 2lt, but the low speed ride on our potholed and coarse chip roads is still firm and tyre roar on coarse roads is noticeable. The electric steering is very acc...Read more
urate except for windy freeway conditions, when small corrections are necessary as the vehicle does wander in it's lane. The electronic throttle on the other hand is a right pain, as linear feel is totally missing, I found that using the cruise control, especially below 80 kph is the easiest way to keep within the law as the torquey, quiet motor will slip past past speed limits before you know it. The MZD Connect system is idiot proof when connecting to Bluetooth, the Sat. Nav, is simple and addresses can be entered via the touch screen or smart device. "Mrs Tom Tom" as I call her alerts me regularly that I am above the speed limit, the infotainment system is "live" all the time for Sat. Nav. and music. I have a 64 Gig USB in one of the two USB's in the consul which has my entire music collection in it, so I'm never without music. in the second USB port I have a retractable cable for my iPhone and I can make calls hands-free by pushing a button on the steering wheel, voice command or via the LCD display communications menu and of course the iPhone. The heater in Winter is putting out warm air within minutes and the Auto Dual Zone Air is faultless and the vents for rear seat passengers are perfect as air also comes from under the front seats. The Auto wipers are great (I have been used to dwell wipers in the past) and the sensitivity settings allow for set and forget wipers. I thought the Auto headlights was a gimmick until I realised that the meters on the dash are LED illuminated full time, so that it is possible to drive in low kight when the headlights should be on. The Cross Traffic Alert, Blind spot Monitoring and Smart City Brake Assist were in the upgrade package for 2016 ($1500) and are technology that every car should have, I recently had a brand new Mazda 2 loaner from the dealer while my car was being serviced and found I missed the 6's safety features greatly. Visibility from the drivers seat is compromised by a thick sloping A pillar and a generous door mirror, I have not seen cars and small tucks at roundabouts and side streets, so a lean froward and backward are necessary also at pedestrian crossings. The Blind Spot monitor and the Cross Traffic Sonar are excellent and are sensitive enough to pick up pedestrians and cyclists, the latter necessary in urban areas, where cyclist sneak up on the left. The external mirrors fold back when parking and the interior mirror tints automatically at night time to reduce headlight glare from behind. I chose the Sport variant because I'm not a fan of leather seats (slippery & sweaty) and find that the fabric seat covers are very comfortable and smart in black, I did buy a set of custom seat covers ($375 micro fibre). The cabin is finished in soft-feel plastics and shiny metal accents and has exposed stitching to add the high quality look and feel, the steering wheel is leather bound as is the gear lever. The gearbox is a six speed electronic manual with a torque converter between it and the smooth 2.5lt petrol motor, giving the best of both worlds with smooth acceleration and shifts with clutch-like grip, the Sport Mode button on the console allows the gearbox to rev to redline in the gears and paddle shifters are also on the steering wheel, but they do turn with the wheel which can be tricky in manual mode if you want another gear!! Rear seat passengers get good leg room with a fold down centre arm rest and cup holders, front cup holders are also under a sliding panel in the centre console and bottle holders are built into all four door panels. A high waist line and reasonably small glass gives a safe look and feel to all passengers and the rear roof line has an almost shooting-brake look to it, giving the wagon variant a handsome profile. The rear seats are 60/40 and can be folded flat from the cargo area or next to the headrests, just make sure there's nothing on the seats when deploying the cargo bay levers, as the seats drop with force!! On a haul from Byron Bay to The Blue Mountains (2 weeks old) the fuel economy was brilliant, almost 900 k's before refill of E10 94 octane, there is no noticeable difference in performance when using Premium or High Octane fuels, although they may use slightly less per bang, the cheaper fuel is wonderful.Similar opinion? Good but not perfect
Solid car with great comfort and good handling. Very well put together with plenty of features and quality for the price. The Diesel is nice and smooth with plenty of torque and the gearbox is nice and smooth. The Bose speakers are good (although I don't listen to much music) and the media system is good but it does load quite slowly. 10k service intervals are quite low though.

errible view area and making the car in the lane next to you look very close, even though it is very far away, and there is no button to easily let you pause whatever you are streaming without having to go into the audio section. Not really a fan of where the drinks holder is in the middle, since if you put a bottle in the front drinks holder it makes it difficult to use the media buttons/knob. I'm nitpicking though. The Mazda 6 is the best car. I had one from 2004 - 2013, never had a single issue - was the same in the 10 years I owned the car. I bought another one new in 2013 and it is also perfect no problem at all. Great drive and value for money

Hi Kian:
I don't own a GJ mazda 6 but i watched many reviews and all the car review people claim this car is a good car because it handles well, very safe and also good fuel economy. If you don't mind a long family sedan then i think you can't go wrong with the 6. However i helped my friend purchase a CX5 and in my opinion dollar to dollar the CX5 is better value because the boot is more practical and a bit shorter in length so parking a bit easier than the 6 but you don't really sacrifice a lot of room inside the car with the CX5. Hope this helps and good luck!
Thank you C.Liu for your response.
My 6 GJ just went to 100K a few days ago. The only and common issue is the "front lower control arms - rear bushes" need to be replaced. Does not affect the handling, but will get some noise when u go through the speed hump at a low speed. Solid chassis and smooth transmission. Combination fuel consume is 7.8L

Mazda 6 2016 SPORTS Sedan difficult to get into on drivers side has any one else had the same problem?
1 answer
I found this but the seat has two settings. When it is set for me I still have to get over the side contour which holds you in the seat firmer when driving. When the wife sets the seat for her and I get into the seat, I hit my head sometimes on the door opening. I would suggest setting your seat lower if you can and remember that the seat is designed that way to keep you from sliding around like a sports seat should. Otherwise I don't mind it because I am aware a bit more effort is needed when entering the driver's seat. Hope this helps.
