My experience
Dear Mazda,
MAZDA BT-50:
People think twice about buying a Mazda especially when all these Mazda day posts and radio advertising sounds so tempting:
READ THIS: My story.
My BRAND-NEW Mazda BT-50 has been a lemon pretty much as soon as it left the dealership. The car was purchased on 15/6/18 from Gosford Mazda. First of all, customer service was below average. Drove the BT-50 for 2 weeks got the “Piece of Mind” service done at 1000km then 1 week later at an odometer reading of only 1700km I went to go for a long drive for a weekend away ...Read more
and had transmission light failure light up on the dashboard then 10 minutes later I had the DPF (diesel particulate filter) light up on the dashboard. I was forced to leave the car at home. 9/7/18: Had to take the day off work to take the car in to get fixed as they could not give me a courtesy car. 11/7/18: Ute was supposedly “fixed”, reset sensors and a forced regen on the DPF because it was “blocked” after 1700km??? 24/7/18: as I left for work I go to turn my car on and every warning light on the dashboard lit up and the car would not start. I was forced to take another day off work and watch my brand-new car be towed away for diagnosis, as of last week it was a problem with the body control module but yet over a week later still no result. I have received barely any calls from Mazda to let me know what is happening with the ute and when it may be fixed. It has been now over 2 and a half weeks with no end in sight of when I will get my ute back. This has been escalated to Mazda Corps still awaiting a resolution. This is a MAJOR FAILURE from Mazda.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Top Ute
I have a 2012 Mk2 XTR duel cab and it has been superb... it does 1200 Km a week and the issues I have had with it was the inter coller pipes and a pulley collapsed. At present it has 250K on the clock and it gets serviced every 15k. Will be updating to 2022 model next year ... highly recommend

Best Vehicle I’ve ever owned
Bought my BT50 dual cab new in Sep 2012,have put 82000 troublefree klms on it, power is great, auto changes smoothly, have had the electric issue in the dash fixed (under warranty), fitted a transmission cooler for towing, always serviced regularly, would recommend Mazda’s to anyone, we now have 3, all with no problems, BT50 has great fuel economy, comfortable to drive, and very reliable, can’t fault it, very happy Customer,

Love everything, except the fuel consumption
After the first 5000km, so far I am very happy with everything about my 4x2 3.2L Freestyle cab tray back BT50, except for the high fuel consumption. Every time I fill up, the computer says I have a range of around 820km from the 80L tank, however I can't even get 600km of highway driving out of a tank, and I drive very conservatively to try to get the best mileage I can out of it. Reported this at the 1000km service and apparently they adjusted something, but to be honest it is actually slightly worse now.
Other than that though, I love everything else about it.

Very Good Ute
Let me first say that I din't much like Utes .. I prefer a van.
However, I was persuaded that we should get one ... and we bought the Mazda BT-50 Diesel manual with a special back we had built - for $8K!
We have just sold it, 7 years later.
Very solid performance, surprisingly easy and comfortable to drive, hardy, reliable (except for new gearbox and clutch required two years ago).
However, I recommend - Get an automatic!

Rust problem - no warranty
Rust is not covered by Mazda as it is caused by the environment and this is a specific exclusion of their warranty. Even though the ad's all show the 4WD off road, this voids your warranty. If you dont want rust in an expensive 4WD, then dont buy a BT50.

Bt 50 Great ute

Great 4x4
Brought a Mazda’s bt50 XTR new in 2015 and done 95000klm trouble free.
I have just had Jaques Spamers fit a 3 inch exhaust system, tuning module, new inter cooler and a couple of other mods and it is amazing. The power is smooth and fuel economy has improved from9.6 to 8.9 Ltrs per 100klm

Goodbye Mazda won’t be buying another Lemon!
Bought brand new in 2013, and since some early electrical issues behind the dash it’s been a big problematic rollercoaster! Transmission Failure 98Km, Intercooler Failire 115Km, Main Electrical Computer Failure 120Km...! No confidence to go out bush due to many major faults!!! Case investigated to replace by Mazda Australia and got denied, not happy customer! They expected us to buy another vehicle at a discounted price which isn’t good enough after you spend $65k at purchase price to be left with a car that isnt reliable. Not sure how many other BT50’s have had similar faults as ours but it’s very hard to go back for another. No zoom zoom her Mazda!!!

Door opening whilst driving. Mazda BT 50
Passenger door opened whilst driving. Now it won’t shut without force. Mazda Australia doesnt think this is a safety issue worth investigating.Anyone else had this problem and been out of warranty.Late 2013 model dual cab 51000 Kay’s.Local dealership was going to fix till they talked to Mazda Australia. Everything else so far I’m happy with. I brought the car 2nd hand with 45000 Kay’s.

Cheap rubbish
Absolutely crap interior plastics. Scratches Every where from centre console to electric window buttons. Door panels mark where your leg touches. Just so very cheap
Stereo speaker in doors rattle turbo lag in low gear also would of been nice to have electric driver's seat for a 40 000 dollar plus ute.

Mazdas Were Crap In The 80's & 90's... Nothing Has Changed
The vehicle was looked after perfectly and changed all oils even when wasn't due... ended up doing 92 ks, in total until thankfully a 200 series cruiser hit me from behind and bent the chassis...
Turbo Gone 80000ks
clutch gone 75000ks
gearbox 3 and 5th gear gone
What a bucket of mazda crap.... how they sell cars is beyond me.... pathetic at best.

Love the car, never had a problem, drives like a dream
The car is surprisingly fuel efficient for a 3 tonne ute, and is so easy and comfortable to drive. The manual gearbox is nice and smooth even after 120,000klms. The engine is powerful and strong and can just pull for days. The interior is clean, neat and tidy and the seats are quite comfortable too. All in all i love this car

Mazda Australia paid for repairs
My 2012 bt50 single cab manual gearbox failed at 86500ks in November 2017. I got it fixed by a transmission specialist and Mazda Australia paid for all repairs. It took a bit of effort but being persistent and involving Consumer Affairs early in the process saw a good result for me and Mazda. I have a number of quality accessories on the vehicle that make it a good vehicle to own. It is a capable 4x4 and is good value for the price.

Mazda BT50 GT 4x4
Totally unreliable car and service from Mazda. Bought brand new and after driving for 2 hours computer blew up. Mazda took it back to fix it and had it for 8 weeks to work out how to fix it. 2 years on computer component has blown again which was fixed after a week and now sitting there for 2 weeks and can’t fixed sensors as Mazda doesn’t know how or why it isn’t working.
Wouldn’t recommend buying one!!

Good value ute.
Great on long road trips cruises along nicely at 130 k's without punishing fuel economy
Plenty of room for a family inside downside to that external dimensions are also large.
Fitted canopy to secure tub. Had to upgrade tail gate handle as original could not be locked.
Overall happy with vehicle.

Utility ute, reliable and good on the road.
I had the 3.2L turbo charge variant and it was punchy from start go. Reliable and never had any issues driving it over 80K's. The transmission however would occasionally have jerks when you put your foot on the peddle, servicing with the dealership has also been expensive but Ringwood Mazda has been very good.

Good car, gets the job done
The car is not very noisy and drives well
The interior is very spacious and has new looking features. The seats are very comfortable and there is a lot of leg room.
The car runs well but I would say running costs are quite expensive.
However for a tradie it's a good car
