My 2004 indicator lights both flash at the same time . They are half as bright on dash, but normal outside. I have removed cluster and checked and cleaned plugs etc with contact cleaner. Local instrument repairer doesn’t think it’s an instrument fault. Anyone had the same?

I have a2003 outlander can you put a 2005 mivec engine in it as l would think that the computer would be different to run the variable valve timing in it and if the computer is different could you use the computer out of the 2005 mivec car or would the wiring loom be totally different and if it is different is it a big job to put the mivec engine wiring loom into the 2003 non mivec car?

Tappets may not have been adjusted properly so the valves may be crashing onto the head, this is not good and you should take it back ASAP.
https://www.howacarworks.com/engine/checking-and-adjusting-valves this link copy and paste is of some help. Maybe you did not use a Mitsubishi mechanic service centre. Anyhow I would suggest check it out as the push rods could cause damage to the valve stems.

Are you sure that you have adjustable tappets as I think they are bucket and shim which is very time consuming as each one has to be removed and replaced with the correct thickness.

Hi all, I bought a 2005 ZF Outlander Activ 2.4l and a full tank of fuel can only travel 320kms. I found it very thirsty and I'm wondering is this normal? How many kms can you guys travel with a full tank of fuel?

Outlander ZE, ZF (2003-2006)

Hello,
I have a 2003 Outlander with the 4G64 motor and has developed a loss of power when accelerating hard from around 2000rpm. If you accelerate hard from start it actually goes well, it just loses power when you floor it from around 2000rpm and then eventually accelerates hard after around 5 seconds. Have had it on a code reader and everything read fault free. Replaced fuel filter/ air filter and checked fuel pressure which reads fine. When the problem occurs the computer shows "0" fuel but fuel pressure is 300.
Any thoughts would be very much appreciated.

Have a compression test carried out by a mechanic to make sure you haven't blown the head gasket when you overheated the engine. No or low compression and it won't start

You have a blown head gasket generally if a Japanese vehicle overheats the head does blow. In some cases it's cheaper to replace the engine from a wrecker as a new head is generally in the range of $2000 to repair. An engine from a wrecker is about $1500.

What is estimate of petroleum consumption per km?

Estimated fuel consumption. Also depending on driver but in town it was roughly 13 litres per 100. Very thirsty. And on highway was about 8-9 litres per 100. But its all wheel drive thats where the fuel economy slumps.

I agree, I leave mine in 2WD, mostly city driving, few k's here and there, roughly 12-13 litres at the best! bordering on very low tank of fuel left almost empty at 450kms travel...

sally

I agree with Brad, if I drove mindfully like Granny, I get 13-14L city stop starting at lights, and around 9-10 highways 100km/110km deriving, in 2WD only, and yes sally im exactly the same, says getting very empty at 400kms, gets to saying 60litres left in tank then the electronic gauge just completely goes blank until you refill again!!

2003 model. Great car but - have had stones in the shock absorbers removed a few times. For last 2 years I get the most awful sound from right front when braking. A knocking kind of sound. It's intermittent and doesn't start until brakes have been used for a bit. Dealer workshop said they can't find anything wrong. Heard on grapevine that others have this happen. It's embarrassingly noisy and I keep wondering if it is unsafe. Has anyone any clues?

Does Outlander 2006 still have a cambelt that needs replacing every 100k or it now uses chains? What is also the difference between a MY06 & MY07? Looking at getting a 2006 used any advise will be appreciated.

Hi. Up to the 2006 model "old shape" still have cam belts. It is recomended by the age ts to replace them at 80 000km. The new model, with the same engine, has a chain and a different gearbox that you can select 4wd as needed witch makes it quit more fuel efficent. Hope this helps
