Hi Would you offer moving house hold items in Melbourne?

Chris F.OSS World Wide Movers

Hi Kev,

Thank you for your question, we are a specialist international company meaning we a specialise in moving people either to Australia from overseas or from Australia to overseas. If you are moving into Melbourne or from Melbourne to another country we would be happy to assist, please feel free to contact our Melbourne sales team [email protected]

We do offer local and interstate removals although generally only to our corporate/company paid clients as we only internationally wrap and pack (as if your effects were going overseas) and this is generally more expensive than normal local moving services.

If we aren't able to assist you with this move we wish you all the best in finding the right moving company

Chris F.OSS World Wide Movers

Yes all staff members are put through rigorous training programmes both internally and externally. This includes but is not limited to Customs & Quarantine Training courses, AFRA & FIDI packing, wrapping, and safe handling courses, FIDI Academy Courses, as well as training by accredited Australia providers specific to the roles our staff are performing. More details are available on our website including short videos of our packing crews in action.

Beautiful question, Thank you OSS for answering this question and thank you for answering this question.

Training is so important for customer service, but the more important thing is how we incorporate this into our daily work route. We will always deal with different situations during our day that may not be as straight forward as our training. This is where a combination and understanding of our own abilities, knowledge, team support and communication comes into play when giving a quality of service. Understanding each other both internally = within a team and externally = each an every clients needs, will help each individual experience to be a pleasure. This also goes with customers being professional towards the business you are dealing with.

We are all people wanting our days to be happy and joyful and to succeed in our daily commitments and challenges with as much ease and support as possible no matter whether we are a customer or a person serving another.

Know that it is ok not to know something and or want to know something. There is always someone or something out there that will support you and give you the answers you are seeking.

Thank you for taking the time to read my response to the initial question asked.

OSS World Wide Movers

I had wanted to move my items from Melbourne, Australia to Norway. Apart from the company doubling the price one week before departure and after I had accepted the costs in writing, I have been treated with no respect and been forced to discard many items of value to me because of the sudden price hike. I contacted consumer affairs who advised that the company had been misleading and suggested a VCAT hearing which I could not proceed with due to leaving the country. After shipping, I was advised the items would arrive 18/04 however these arrived on 04/05. A box was cut open to remove any valuables I had and I wanted to lodge an insurance claim. I discussed with OSS stating that only the packers would know which box to cut however also suggesting that this could possibly have occurred elsewhere. The response led me feel in tears over how OSS was so offended with my suggestions of theft and I felt abused. I am so distressed and I hope someone can respond and help me.

Sadly I don't think my answer will help, and I do feel for this person. I was present when my house was packed and had complete confidence in what was occurring, it would seem this was not the case. However I would point out that containers are X-rayed and as I was told that any spirits, etc. could be identified from outside the container and in which box, it makes me wonder who exactly knew what was in there? As I said I don't think I can help.

Thank you still, at least it is not just me it has happened to :) The oss staff failed to tell me about the cartons being x-rated, it does explain a lot.

Hi Terence,

If you are exporting commercial food products you will need the help of a general freight forwarder. A company like Mainfreight would be able to help. OSS World Wide Movers is a personal and household effects shipper. Meaning we can ship anything that is your personal property, such as furniture, cars, motorbikes, trailers, and boats but not items for commercial use.

UNDERQUOTE - Serious Issue

I have heard in most of the blogs that Removals companies underquote and then when final bill arrives it will be double of quoted value.
One of OSS representative came twice to my house to give us a quote in a span of one year and in first quote he calculated 17CBM and second quote he calculated 40 CBM !!!!. Nothing has moved in and out of the garage for more than a year now.

I felt saved by insisting on second visual inspection. Has any one experienced similar issues?

If OSS representative want to talk to me regarding this, they can email me on [email protected]. I am asking for quote from other removalist as well after this fiasco. Earlier I have made up my mind that I will go with OSS and about to sign the contract. I think I was lucky.

Hi Pankaj

Thank you for your comment.

Your goods were surveyed initially in Dec 2013. A total of 48 items were listed with an estimated volume of 17 cubic metres. A quote was provided to you as well as a full inventory of 48 items to be shipped. Later in Dec photos of all items to be shipped were sent by you with the comment "the only photos I am missing is of one bed and computer table L shaped which you saw in the garage" The photos of items matched inventory of the items with the exception of 10 paintings, 1 arm chair, one bean bag and one sideboard.

In April 2015 we visited your residence a 2nd time to confirm the volume was as originally sighted.

We are not sure what transpired in the interim but the volume had increased considerably such that our consultant was unable to negotiate his way into the double garage and was only able to only measure the length, height, and width of the space occupied by the goods (40cbm). This is not a perfect measure and there may be gaps in the space measured but we did not want a misunderstanding of the cost of relocating this volume of effects if that volume of space was in fact fully occupied.

We will contact you directly to discuss your options further.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.
In last one year the garage has not been opened even once. Nothing has gone in or out of the garage.
Even if i remove the extra stuff I mentioned in my email i.e "he only photos I am missing is of one bed and computer table L shaped which you saw in the garage", how come volume has moved from 17 CBM to 40 CBM.?

Also on 9th April I received last email from your consultant saying he is going to send me new quote but it is 22nd april now and I have not heard anything back from him.

regards,

--Pankaj

OSS World Wide Movers
Chris F.OSS World Wide Movers

Hi Pankaj
To avoid confusion we attach a copy of the inventory of the effects surveyed to every quote. The inventory detailing the items surveyed from the garage was provided to you to confirm that this was an accurate assessment of the goods to be shipped. If all your items are stacked in one place we are only able to list your effects based on your advice as to what will be shipped. We did seek your feedback in relation to the original inventory of 48 items/17cbm and you appeared to confirm that the list was correct.
At the second survey it appeared that there were more items to those listed 12 months prior. Rather than list an even larger pile of goods, we simply measured the space that those goods occupied your garage. You could also do the same, by measuring the length, width, and height of the space that the effects occupy in metres, and multiplying these figures together. It may be that these goods are stacked in such a way that there are gaps or holes that would equate to a lesser volume but we would not able to confirm this until packaging actually occurs.
Given your concerns, we are being conservative to avoid any potential shocks later on.
A new quote is being forwarded to you again now.

Dear OSS, we packed our good for transport from Brisbane Australia to Calgary Canada. They are presently stored in Brisbane. Due to a marriage breakdown we have had to cancel the transportation. We paid $9,300. The good have not left Brisbane and are still on the dock. We have been told we will receive $1000 refund and the goods transported to a storage facility in Brisbane. I am just wondering where the other $8,000 has gone. I understand we should be out of pocket to cover the work already done but this seems excessive.
I find your terms and conditions full of ambiguity and difficult to understand. Could you please explain to me why our out of pockets are so great.

Kerri, perhaps your things were already booked on a vessel and you cancelled it a bit late so the vessel was not able to fill your container's position and therefore they had to charge OSS for the space even though your container wasn't even on there? It's a bit rough, especially considering the circumstances for cancelling, but if they get charged then of course they dont want to be out of pocket so have passed the charges on to you. Maybe call them and ask them to explain why you only got refunded $1000.

OSS World Wide Movers
Chris F.OSS World Wide Movers

Hi Kerri,

The gist of what Stacey is saying is correct. The cancelation of an export consignment following collection and export preparation means that some costs can not be recovered and some additional costs are incurred.

GST which is not payable on export consignments in most instances becomes applicable on your entire move. The consignment also must also be unloaded from the export container, transferred to a delivery vehicle and ultimately delivered to you and unpacked.

We are able to seek a partial refund from the shipping lines but the shipping lines apply charges for the use and return of their equipment in the event of non export. In your case these charges are significant as the goods were loaded direct into a shipping container and stored for a number of weeks.

Please call our office and we can discuss in more detail.

We are having the same problem with this company...quoted 14k to move house lot and one car from brisbane to NZ...paid 7k in advance and then things happened and we couldn't make the move...we have to pay another 4.5k to get our belongings back. Please note they never had the car in their storage just the furniture and it never left brisbane...so to relocate two containers to NZ the charge was 14k...to get back our furniture which never left Brisbane it will cost us 11.5k...go figure!!!i understand we should lose the 7k but to have to pay another 4.5k for something that has sat in their storage is over the top I think!!

I recently moved Melbourne to USA. Uplift was on 19th March and as its a co-consignment I have been told goods may take 9-17weeks to arrive. My main concern is if it takes 17 weeks then I will have re-bought most of the goods I've sent. There's a big variance. I've chased OSS Melbourne but there's no ETD just a general response at present. I did feel communication and service tapered off after I'd paid but the service hasn't been completed yet so I'm hopeful and I'll keep you updated.

Hi daisy,

Great to see your response. I really appreciate it. How many CBM you are moving? Mine is nearly 17 CBM and quote of around 7100 aud.
I wushu could have sold my stuff before I moved here. Furniture is so cheap here.
Where in usa are u located? I am in phoenix .

We moved 7CBM. We stored some stuff and shipped essential items. I'm hoping we didn't make the wrong decision though as now we have a place with zero furniture and there's little point buying any! Especially as we ended up paying more than quoted due to final volume. Only time will tell. We are in Texas so I was surprised to hear goods are shipped to NY. I'm hoping that will assist in filling the container more promptly and getting our goods here before our baby arrives.

how long does it take to deliver from Sydney to Melbourne after clearing customs & quarantine?

2 answers

Hi Chris, OSS delivered in Mellbourne. It took 2 weeks to clear customs and they delivered within 5 days after that.

OSS World Wide Movers
Chris F.OSS World Wide Movers

Hi Chris
The delivery time following clearances in Sydney to Melbourne will depend on the size of the shipment.
Small consignments (boxes) can be dispatched via courier and arrive within a matter of days. Large consignments which fill a either a 20ft or 40ft container can also be moved quickly as transport can be booked immediately as they fill the entire unit, 1-2 weeks outside of peak demand periods.
For consignments which are neither a container nor just boxes it can be harder to forecast exact timing. The reason for this is we use specialist furniture carriers and we have to work in with their schedules. These tend to depart once a full load is achieved, usually weekly or fortnightly. It would be exceptional if your effects took longer than 3-4 weeks to be delivered and we would expect delivery within a 2-3 week time frame.
If you have a specific deadline that you need to meet please let us know at the earliest opportunity and our staff will do whatever we can to achieve this.
