Best breadmaker
Really easy and practical. The fruit dispenser is great. I make a fruit bread that gets compliments galore and is so much better than anything commercially available. So easy. I have used mine for 3 years with no problem. I have personally recommended it to others who have purchased it and delighted with its operation. My only criticism would be with bread makers generally. Suggestions on menu options for specialty breads or combining pre-mixed bread to create new breads. Very handy is the measuring cup and spoon.

Fabulous bread maker!
1.5 years after purchasing it, I finally managed to get around to using it, gingerly. Unbelievably, my very first loaf turned out to be eatable! And I wasn't even using bread flour, just the "run-of-the-mill" low-grade type from Aldi. The 2nd loaf, with raisins, was also a great success. This bread maker just lives up to its name/pedigree in SD-257, it seems.
I will try some other types later.

Gluten-free Bricks
When my Breville eventually stopped working, I was talked into this monstrosity by a Harvey Norman salesperson. "All our customers rave about it" was the sales pitch; (not if they're trying to make gluten-free bread I'm betting!). Well despite using the same bread mix and method I've used for the past 6 years, this thing has turned out a series of GF loaves with the consistency of house bricks (no matter what variations on the recommendations I try). The last loaf actually snapped the blade of my bread knife!! The GF bread cycle is only 1hr ...Read more
50 mins (compared with Breville's 2hrs 20 mins cycle) - but I have no idea whether this is part of the issue or not. Panasonic don't care, and don't want to know about it. Apparently if I'm not happy, I can get a replacement machine under their warranty that no doubt also makes bricks. It's the last Panasonic appliance I'll ever buy!Similar opinion? FABULOUS!
What a fantastic machine! I've been using the Breville Custom Loaf machine for a couple of years now but unfortunately it's breaking down so I thought I'd purchase something different to try. I can not believe the exact same recipe I used in the Breville which was ok in the Panasonic is fabulous. I don't use any fancy flour or add anything other than water, salt, oil, and yeast and it just works. Tried the French setting last night 6 hours... I was skeptical however I've just finished my second slice! I use my breadmaker everyday if not twice a...Read more
day depending on what I'm cooking as we dont buy bread so it needs to work and this doesn't disappoint. I've also made a couple of butter cakes in it as well and they've worked out a treat. Basic Bread Recipe 500g normal plain flour 7g yeast 15-20g canola oil Couple of pinchs of salt around 2g 350ml of water (If you'd like a slightly fluff'er loaf use 100g of Laucke Multigrain Soy and Linseed Mix available at the supermarket then make up to 500g with normal plain flour)

Taste so good
The bread made from this breadmaket smell and taste so good that I never have to buy another bread from a bakery. Its very to use and works like a magic. I even get to make chinese Bao from it too. The only problem I have is the nut dispensing tool that doesn't really work.

Fresh Bread!
Fantastic, fresh bread everyday. Took a couple of goes to get to know exactly how much water, now can't stop the old boy from making bread everyday. Fresh out of the oven, its gone within hours. And the smell of fresh bread in house, you just can't wait to start eating it. This is our second machine.

Good bread maker I bought
I bought this bread maker 2 years ago after I read a hot post that many people highly recommended this bread maker. Generally speaking, it is easy to use and you can bake the bread easily by pressing a button, and just wait until it is ready. Good bargain and deserve to buy.

Great bread maker!
I bought this from Myer on special price $189. I have been previously compare it with Breville bread maker but decide to buy Panasonic instead. Been used it once for baking a white loaf using a bread mix. The result is very good. Going to try to make a jam. I'll update again the result.

No more buying bread!
I have never owned a bread maker before so I can't compare with other machines but I believe this is a good product. I got fed up with kneading by hand so I borrowed this from a friend and I have never looked back! I have baked a loaf or made dough for rolls every 2 - 3 days for the last 3 months. t has worked exactly as promised every time.
I mainly make the wholemeal sandwich on program 10. And I've noticed a significant improvement when I added the Bread Improver marked 'optional' in the machine's recipe. So much more rise and fluffier.

My favourite toy
This little bread maker is a ripper. Not too bulky, doesn't take up to much bench space. A great price, an awesome gift. Every kitchen should have one. A must if your a bread lover. Yet to make jams, will try it out though. It comes with recipes and easy instruction guide. We make a loaf a day. The house smells so good while the bread is baking.

Get it from Harvey Norman
On my third after two hassle free warranty replacements. First didn't make bread properly - too many failures, the next had a broken plastic part in the fruit dispenser. The 2 year warranty covered both. The latest has a 2 year warranty which cost $39. I got such good service I decided to write this review.

Could improve but no real complaints
I exchanged this a few weeks ago after being disappointed with another brand of bread maker. Funnily enough, while Breville features were good, if combined with the Panasonic model features I exchanged it with, they would almost have a winner. The build quality of the Panasonic is much better, the "rest" time on this bread MAKER is bureaucracy by bread making "idealists". This feature allows temperatures of all ingredients to balance out for better performance, but not really a problem in some climates. But, it does make great bread, but with i...Read more
ts time "resting" period takes too long to bake bread...but after allowing for this "fault" it has not failed a single loaf of bread....but I wish they (Panasonic and Breville) would ask consumers what they want in a bread maker. It seems a feature they could include is "no rest" period, and a few more user programs like "mix only" and "bake only" allowing inputs to set to periods, and temperature. Come on Panasonic. You can do this!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Worth the money
Fantastic machine. Easy to use, reliable and bread slips out (unlike my previous machine from a different manufacturer, where the baked product would get stuck to the paddles). The timer setting is handy, for freshly-baked bread in the morning.
Have tried white and brown bread, Laucke mixes and Panasonic recipes, with success.

Makes very nice dough
I only use it to make dough for bakery or Chinese buns and find it makes good dough. For Chinese buns, I use program 22 and the dough is really good. I wish it has a setting that can escape the rest period for some dough functions as it wastes lots of time when rest is not necessary.

Greta product so far
I'm enjoying the different loaves you can make, but more options and variations in the recipe book would be good.
The machine is easy to use and easy to clean.
The only down side is that it's bulky in the kitchen so a suitable space must be found for it.

GREAT MACHINE, CAN'T GO WRONG, MAKES BREAD AND JAM!
This is another great breadmaker from Panasonic, the only brand that allows some time for the raw bread ingredients to get to the same temperature before the process starts - and this is its critical advantage!
BOTTOM LINE - BUY THIS, YOU WON'T GO WRONG!
I have had a number of Panasonic breadmakers, consider myself a bread machine connoisseur quite frankly, and only stepped up to the 2501 because I was intrigued at being able to make Jam or compote in the same machine. It has worked perfectly. All breads made with good, healthy (wholemeal mo...Read more

Great bread but very tall
This machine is easy to use and has so far made excellent bread and doughs. I only have two complaints. Firstly the beep at the end of the cycle is barely audible unless you are standing next to the machine, and secondly, it is a very tall machine and does not fit in any of my kitchen cupboards. Otherwise it is great!!

One serious defect
I'm very disappointed and frustrated about one really critical defect in this machine. Once the pan is loaded with the ingredients and the "start" button is pressed, the machine sits there doing absolutely nothing for up to an hour. In the manual, this is called "resting", but actually serves no purpose at all except to waste time. I complained to the manfacturer whose customer service people told me this is to allow the yeast to "activate". This is nonsense. At that stage, all ingredients, including the yeast, are dry, with the liquid (wa...Read more
ter, milk) sitting on top. The yeast does not "activate" until the liquid is mixed in. This annoying delay means that, to get a fruit loaf ready for morning tea, it has to be put on at 6am; French bread for lunch is out of the question. I wish I had stayed with my bottom of the range, no frills Breville machine, which starts when the "start" button is pressed, meaning I could have my morning tea or lunch loaf without having to get up especially early to put it on. I found the customer service people no help at all; could not give a valid answer to my query, told that is the way the machine is and if I'm not happy with it, I should go elsewhere. Very easy to say, but I've invested over $250 in this thing and I'm stuck with it. FYI, in my email conv with Panasonic, I was CASE 138106.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Great bread, horrible customer support
First 6 loaves worked really great, absolutely faultless and very easy to use. Bread came out as well as my best ones when made lovingly by hand. The shape of the tin makes the loaves a bit tall, but some creative knifework still makes for very toastable slice sizes.
The 7th loaf also appeared to be a success however when washing up, I discovered that the paddle no longer attached securely to the spindle at the base of the baking tin. I tried the other (rye bread) paddle and found the same problem (there is about 30 degrees of play) so somet...Read more
hing has happened to the spindle in the tin. Reading similar occurrences from other owners, the machine is now unusable as the paddle will detach during mixing. Currently awaiting a reply from Panasonic customer support. edit: Just baked my 8th loaf with the extremely loose paddle, and to my surprise, not only did the bread turn out great, but the paddle stayed in the tin when I shook the loaf out! Panasonic customer support however was horrible. They take a long time to respond, and when they do, push you to buy replacement parts that almost cost more than the machine itself.Similar opinion? Exactly what you want in a bread machine
Purchased this bread machine after reading all the good reviews. I have previously owned other brands and had issues with the bread coming out like hard dense bricks. I was sick of having a bread machine that was only good for kneading. This machine makes amazing loaves, I mainly only bake white bread so I cannot comment on the other types of bread. My first attempt was the basic white loaf, I made the XL loaf expecting it to be average sized as that is what I was used to with my other machines but boy was I wrong, it was HUGE, I actually had t...Read more
rouble cutting the slices as it was so tall. My next attempt I made the sandwich bread, I love soft loaves of bread that are suitable for sandwiches and this loaf was exactly that, perfect sized and super soft, the only downfall is it takes 5 hours on this cycle. My go to loaf though has to be the rapid white loaf, the recipe booklet states not to use the rapid setting when possible and I have no idea why as I believe it makes the best loaf out of all 3 white loaves. I make a medium loaf on the light crust setting and omg it is better than the bread you get from the bakery. This is my default bread and I don't buy store bought any more. For anyone interested I use Lowan instant dried yeast which is kept in the fridge, Manildra Group bakers flour 10kg bag from costco and I also add 1.5 tsp bread improver as I found my bread was going stale too quick, this keeps it nice and soft for at least 3 days but it is usually eaten before then. I use a bread slicing guide which I find is a necessity for cutting even straight slices and also use a very fine serrated bread knife, I tried using a more coarse serrated knife and it just hacked at the bread. I have no real negatives about this machine that others haven't mentioned already, this machine is well worth the money spent.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Hi JB, apologies you are not able to turn this up.

I have the SD2501 and used it perfectly Friday. Two days later I plugged it back in to use and zero response from the display panel -nothing comes on. Checked the power point with other things and not a power point issue - any ideas before I have the expense of a repair - unit is not very old at all
2 answers
You should take your device to a licensed repairer. There may be an internal fuse inside the machine that's tripped / blown, but if it has, it means there's a problem with the machine itself.
Panasonic Australia C.Panasonic
Hi Katrina, sorry to hear about the fault with your product, if the unit is still in warranty, please take it back to the retailer and they will assist you further.
