I have purchased this iron and would like to know specifically what the soleplate material is. Does it contain any Teflon or Teflon like ingredients such as perfluorinated compounds like PFOA (perfluorooctanoic acid)? Many thanks.

I forwarded a question yesterday re our Philips Azur GC4865 iron; on double checking today I noticed that when you turn it on a red light flashes twice then nothing. In reading through this site it would appear this is a common problem for this iron. I liaised online with your customer service and they advised that because the iron is out of warranty, we would need to pay to get it repaired. My question is, if there is a fault with this particular model, as appears to be the case by the other questions asked, shouldn't Philips 'wear' the repair costs? The iron wasn't a cheap one and ours has hardly been used (refer to previous question for reason). Thank you

Hi Deborah, thank you for your question. We're not sure what's causing the red light of your iron to flash (and if this is due to a fault with the model in particular), but we can't tell you anything different than our colleagues from Customer Care when it comes to our warranty procedures. If you'd prefer to speak to someone directly about your iron, then feel free to give us a call on 1300 363 391 (Australia) or 0800 658 224 (New Zealand). Enjoy the rest of your week, Deborah.

Hi Deb,
I'm writing this from Istanbul and my Azur Excel hi545 has the exact same problem. When you plug it in the red lights blinks twice and the iron turns off. I guess it's a defect with the safety shut-off system that Philips wouldn't admit. This is my first and last Philips iron

We purchased a GC4865 and in effect it is still brand new because shortly after we purchased a Philips GC9600 Steam iron. Because the GC9600 stopped producing steam we have had to return it and it is currently being repaired. We went to use our GC4865 however it won't work. We plug it in and nothing. We know there is nothing wrong with our power source, and the iron plug and cord is ok. Can you please advise. Thank you

Hi Deborah,

Thanks for your question. It does sound like it might be a good idea to get in touch with the same team you've been in touch with about your GC9600. They'd gladly look into any possibilities that they have at their disposal to help you further from here on out.

We do hope you'll soon again be able to iron in full capacity.

I purchased a Philips Azur iron (GC 4865/22) which I have used for a couple of years. It is now faulty (the light does not stay on) as it does not heat up properly. It heats up for less than a minute when turned on and then turns off before the iron can heat up properly to iron clothes. I called up Customer Service on 1300 363 391 and was informed that without a receipt they are unable to help as there is a 2 year warranty. So I am stuck other than going out and buying a new one.

Any suggestions as to what brand to buy that will last longer than two years. I thought I was buying a good brand for the premium price paid.

Hi Ben,
Sorry to hear about your misfortune with this iron. I also had problems with my Philips iron (about which I wrote a review) and I now have a Miele Fashionmaster with which I am very happy. I do understand that this item is costly and not everyone is willing or prepared to lay out this sum. In a nutshell, if I were to purchase an iron I would definitely seriously consider either the Russell Hobbs Smooth IQ Pro Iron ($94) or the Russell Hobbs Smooth IQ Plus Iron ($79) both from Harvey Norman. The iron has a two year warranty. Hope that this helps and you have better luck with whichever one you choose.

My wife accidentally dropped her azur iron and now when you plug it in to use it it comes on for about three seconds then turns itself off. I assume this to be a safety measure is there a way of resetting it or are we up for a new iron?

Hi my Azur iron was purchased Feb 2014 and I used it fine up until yesterday. I ironed some clothes and turned it off but then turned it back on and the light blinked on like it was starting to heat up but then automatically switched to the light on the left and did not heat up after that. It also is leaking from somewhere as well when you tip the iron forward. Target don't do warranty's out of one year and I've had Philips before last for 7+ yrs. What can I do about this one??? Help.

Hi there,
I have a steam iron Azur GC4865 purchased March 2013. I have been very happy with it until now but recently I noticed that thete is a water leak somewhere near the handle or the extra steam button. When I'm ironing my hand is all wet and I can see drops of warer appearing from somewhere. I feel very uncomfortable to have wet hands as it is close to power and I think it might be dangerous. The water tank is probably broken somewhere. Can this problem be fixed or do I have to get a new iron? Martina

Hi Martina,
When I questioned the serviceman re: repair of my Azur iron, he stated that the main water tank was leaking and could not be fixed - hence the main reason why it was replaced. I suspect the other features which had stopped working over time were also a result of water damage.

As I do have some electrical experience, I would suggest to stop using the iron from a safety perspective as water and electricity do not go well together. If its still under warranty raise a case with Phillips and get it replaced.

Kevin.

Hi Martina, I'm no sparky but we all know water and electricity can be a lethal combination! So I'd stop using the iron immediately. Regardless of whether within warranty or not, if the iron shows signs of pinky normal use (no tampering or abuse or negligence) and you can produce proof of purchase on a date in the not too distant past, then submit a complaint via the Philips website. I found them most sympathetic and prepared to listen and was contacted by the Philips/Breville customer service centre within a few days and a warranty claim approval number was issued over the phone the same day so that I could claim a refund from the retail supplier (Target).

NB!!! KEEP THE FAULTY IRON and take it with you to the retailer when you claim you refund!!! In the interest of keeping our weekly mountain of ironing under control (perhaps too strong a word!),I had already purchased a replacement and so (foolishly) three out the old iron. The retail refund process requires capture of data from the faulty item and not having the faulty iron introduced avoidable back office scurrying around and authorizations. Not having the returned appliance definitely put me in a weaker position and, until I managed to get a more senior supervisor involved, it looked like the refund claim was going to be rejected.

Good luck, be safe and I hope you get a replacement or refund: I'm very happy with mine and the warranty claim and refund process.
