Going on Auto off and won't heat
I am very disappointed, we have had the iron for less than 3 years and the auto off function comes on as soon as you plug the iron and won't heat. The warranty was for 2 years so maybe it was intentionally badly designed to make us go and get another one. I got philips because my mother had her iron for years, but clearly they don't make them of the same quality anymore so I have to look at other brands now. What a waste of products, plastic especially! It's bcs of businesses like these that our planet is covered in plastic waste.

Sticks and ruins clothes
Just 'melted' my last clothing item. As others have said, this iron is hopeless. I thought it was just me, but even on lower settings it sticks to clothes (particularly black for some reason) and I have an immovable brown mark on the iron as well. I also find it spits bits out at irregular intervals. Can never tell when it will happen.
Glad to have read these reviews to know it's not just me and I can safely bin this - despite the waste of money and the clothes now with marks. Expect better from Philips.

Auto off
Auto off button flashing and then turning off iron immediately. I have tried to unplug and leave for a while before plugging in again but that does not make a difference. Is there anything else I can try .What's happening ? . Kids back at school tomorrow and no uniforms ironed. Not happy.

Hey Andy, that sounds rather unfortunate. Since it sounds like the iron may be broken, we kindly advise you to contact our Customer Care team as this may be a warranty related issue. If you are in Aus... Read more

We bought this iron a few years ago and have battled along with it sticking to most of our clothes. The iron works but it is hard work because it just doesn't glide along the fabric as it should and some modern stretch fabrics start to burn before the crinkles actually come out. At the weekend we went and bought a new iron because we just got fed up with it and our new iron made us realise how bad this one had been. Needless to say, our new iron isn't a Philips, nor will I be keen to buy a Philips iron again.

Great iron
Had this given to me as a house warming present and I really love it. It has a good cord length and a big water reservoir. It glides over my clothes easily and has great steam and heat options. Irons my delicate and synthetics with care, and is great on my fiancées thick work uniforms.
Good all round iron

Good but not great
The iron I bought (Philips GC2960) had a faulty water reservoir lid (it wouldn't close properly), but I tried it out anyway to see whether I should just exchange it for the same model or upgrade to another one. For the brief time I tried it, it ironed pretty well, at least as well as my 20-year-old stainless steel-soleplated Sunbeam, anyway. It's light and glides easily, and produces good amounts of steam. I liked the pointy tip and the steam boost worked well. The dial has markings showing you which of the two steam settings to use, which is h...Read more
elpful. It's a good buy for the money, and if it hadn't had the faulty lid I would have been happy with it. As it happened, though, I upgraded to the GC4865, and I'm glad I did, because the extra weight and steam pressure make ironing almost a pleasure - I found myself looking for things to iron to see how easily it would flatten them! The Azure model reminded me of when I used to like ironing (with my mum's iron, from the days when appliances were made to work well and to last). So if you're wondering if there's a difference between the various series (like I did), there definitely is, and if you iron often I would say get the better model if you can afford it. Light, glides easily Faulty reservoir lid, only two steam settings, a bit noisy1 comment
The label on my Phillips iron said 'With SteamGlide soleplate' which seemed to portray that it would glide easily but it got a brown stain on the sole plate within 2 weeks of buying it. I contacted P... Read more
hillips who said this happens to all irons and is not covered under warranty. The booklet indicates the sole plate can be cleaned just by wiping it off, but this statement is false because the soleplate cannot be cleaned with water (or anything else for that matter!!) I cannot get the iron clean at all. Their warranty indicates the iron is covered for defects in material. I would say this is a defect in material and therefore Phillips do not back up their warranty. I would never buy a Phillips iron again. You can't trust their product and you can't trust their warranty.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

I have the exact same issue
I have the same problem. Reading these comments it appears to be a common fault. Into the bin with it and purchase another iron I guess:-(

Hi,
We have been very happy with our Philips GC2960 iron until today.
Suddenly, the iron does not heat at all and the Auto Lite flicker only occasionally when placed on the soleplate for > 30 seconds. It does nothing in the upright position.
Assuming the problem it is smoothing to do with the orientation timer is there any way to check this and or fix it.
