Used them a lot more than expected.
After purchasing this I thought they would be another appliance that will take up space and be under utilized. Fortunately, I have used them more than my toaster or my Microwave. They are great for making chips, fried fish, pies, pizza, spring rolls, pastry etc. I also use them for heating up most of my food. They use very little oil but the food still comes out crispy. Only complaint is that the grill is hard to wash. However future models improved on this. I need to buy another for my in laws.

Great little device
I was skeptical at first about the concept of air fryers, i have an oven and a deep fryer, so i wasnt sure it was going to provide me with much more than another option. However, they save time, electricity and cleaning up in a big way. They are far more economical than warming up an oven and much easier to clean than either an oven or a deep fryer...plus no dangerous hot oil or build ups to clean up.

Good for party
Very satisfied with the airfryer, easy to cook delicious food with simple recipes.
No matter vegetables or meat, could be roasted or grilled in an air fryer.
But not really easy for cleaning, but recommend to dim into the water for a short while before cleaning.
Besides, recipes could be found through google.

It’s not great, but okay
I bought it for a cheap price. Didn’t expect it to be perfect. It wasn’t perfect. However I think it’s worth it. There’s no need for me to cook heavily and waste much time on cooking. It made my life much easier and the food was not bad. I’ll buy again.

Good stuff!
Fried my chicken perfectly, easy to maintain and store. I have told my friends about it and two of them bought it and fried their chicken perfectly too. I am going to try frying some more food soon! The only thing I don't like about it is that it's pretty small.

If you are rocking a "dad bod" and like re-heating Pizza and KFC this machine is for you
Forgetting the potential health benefits of air heating food vs frying, that is a minor plus when considering the full potential of this machine. This is the best kitchen appliance to give anyone with a "dad bod". Reheating pizza to bring it back to "fresh" - check. Reheating KFC to perfection - check. Frozen chicken nuggets to perfection in 5 minutes - check. Meat pie with crispy pastry - check. I really wish that when I moved out of home many years ago I had one of these, it literally is the best kitchen invention ever (sorry microwave...Read more
you suck at heating pies and pasties). If you are lazy, impatient and on the plus size, you will love this machine. On the downside over time it becomes hard to clean, grease builds up on every conceivable surface of the unit including the rear vent which cannot be cleaned easily. We decided to simply buy a replacement when cleaning became too bothersome !1 comment

Great and easy
This airfryer is easy to use. I have only cooked potatoes and chicken wings so far. But it's so easy and simple to use. The taste is just like oil fried chips but you know it's healthier for you. What a winner I say. I threw my oil fryer out as soon as I got this.

I’m glad I bought this air fryer! It’s one of the most used appliance in our kitchen, makes food healthier specially I use this mostly for kids, it doesn’t need any oil plus makes it crispier! Very easy to use! Love it! Only downside is it’s hard to clean specially the basket. Other than that, happy with this item.

Love this! It is one of the best kitchen appliances we have bought.
My wife and I are always wary of new kitchen appliances. So often in the past we have bought kitchen gadgets which get used a few times, then end up in a cupboard never to be used again. This air fryer is different! I would estimate it gets used at least five to six times a week. It is fabulous for low fat chips, “baked potatoes” including pumpkin and sweet potatoes, kebabs, even just very quickly heating and toasting some bread rolls. (This model is plenty big enough for three or four people, but for a larger family you’d likely neeed the big...Read more
ger model.) For larger items like baked potatoes, we initially microwave them to cook inside, then throw them in the air fryer with just a quick spray of rice or olive oil to crisp them up. It’s very quick- the biggest mistake you can make is leaving it running too long without checking what you’re cooking, (which only takes a second) and over doing it. It’s also fabulous for reheating things which you want a bit crispy, eg: pastry items, spring rolls, and pizza slices etc. The main cook (ie: my wife) absolutely loves this gadget, but so do I on the occasions when I use it. It comes with a pretty good recipe book and we find that we just keep finding new uses for it. It’s easily the best kitchen appliance we have bought in many years. It’s gets used nearly every day, and continues to perform admirably.1 comment

We have had this product for a while and we have no complaints. I even bought a larger version for my son as part of his engagement present. Much cheaper than firing up the conventional oven. It's so versatile. Reheating or cooking from scratch. Can go in dishwasher too. A must have.

Goes well; overpriced; industrial-design error; probable marketing hype; recipes dubious.
The cooking results of this product are delightful --- same as any such designs as if they all come out of the same source, with minor cosmetic details and major 4:1-or-so difficult-to-justify price-variations.
This particular model is difficult to use because it's knobs have tiny letters using darkish-grey relative to grey (needing a torch and getting up close, sometimes, to actually see the temperature/time. The Philips models with digital displays are overpriced in my opinion and the opinions of friends (and warranties of cheaper peers c...Read more
an be better). I bought the cheaper (Philips) model because electronics can be unreliable compared with a mechanical timer and a simple rotating temperature wheel. Buying the cheap one was ok except for the numbers-printing being too difficult to read. The printing (of numbers on the knobs) is impractically-unnecessarily small. Also, the functions of the various models are identical, practically --- leaving only the digital-displays and visibility to justify up to hundreds of dollars extra. I'm extremely glad I did because, later, I bought two Aldi air fryers (looked identical) which, for family members, have since been working wonderfully. Another family member paid less than I did (for the Philips, on special) for a virtual copy for one with a digital display (another well-known brand in the same shops as the Philips models). Philips have a complex swirl under the basket; I don't know what that's actually doing, if anything --- nobody I know using these gadgets (lots, various brands) can describe any advantage. I've watched the Aldi working, also, for example; and I couldn't see any differences. Nobody can stop air swirling and, if anything, any advantages (for special swirling assistances) might only happen in an empty basket. Also, some brands competing with the Philips have openings in the sides of the container (in the walls above the bottom mesh basket) and such gaps would allow better distribution of hot air (in a standard amount of potato chips, for example) than just having a bottom mesh and walls sides (Philips). I'd rather pay 1/4 to 1/2 the price for an airfryer (that works equally well) with a flat bottom (easier to clean) and gaps in the side-walls of the basket (I'd say essential after cooking chips of various cuts). My daughter's air-fryer, for example, cost half as much as mine ($99). I paid $49 for an extra two years warranty --- rather buy another one!. I also paid $25 for a baking dish (wast of money any $5 container that fits in works) then about $30 for a wire rack rip-off.2 comments

Healthier choice to enjoy tasty food
We bought this on a discounted price from The Good Guys when we moved to our new home. We have been using a deep fryer in the past and wanted to change to a healthier choice. This is simply amazing that we can now enjoy the same good tasting food with probably 5% of the cooking oil we used to fry the food with. The only down side is that the inner net is extremely hard to wash when there are food residual left there. Apart from that, it is generally a good kitchen appliance to have!
We have since then told our family members about this so they can also switched to an Airfryer instead of the traditional deep fryer to live healthier!

I have owned my air fryer for a month now and really love it. It makes cooking so much easier and of course so much healthier. The recipe booklet that came with it is very helpful, but I Google anything Im not sure about cooking. It looks very attractive sitting on my kitchen bench top and is so easy to keep clean. Thank you Phillips for a top quality product.

The basket came undone and I burnt my hand as I went to catch bottom unit.
Only had my unit for 3-4 mths and everything, especially carrot are tasting tinny. I do chips, pumpkin, sweet potato and potatoe and use my machine at least 3 times a week. I use spray olive oil and wash it afterwards it's cooled down in hot soapy water with a scrubber non scratch brush.

I have heard about this but it is unbelievable results. Chips, sausages, fish cakes, hamburgers come out like they have been deep fried. Something everyone should have. After using a friends XL model I wanted one. On visiting my in laws they had upgraded to the XL and gave us their old one, 9220/50 model.
I have noticed it can't cook chips the same as the XL.
I have been cooking them at 200 for 16mins, giving them a shake in between however every time they just all stick together.
Does the machine just stop working as effectively after a while? Has anyone else noticed this?
I still want the XL and so far the husband is not convinced the machine is a winner.
Can someone please shed some light on why my chips won't cook properly?
3 answers
I'd just cook them a little longer. Could be the water content in the potatoes, or who knows what else? I do mine about twenty minutes. Open the drawer and shake a couple of times more as well. That let's out some of the moisture content that's built up within the drawer and basket that prevents things from browning as well.
That's really strange - I've never had anything stick together in my airfryer except homemade unsoaked potato crisps when I've just dumped all the slices in and haven't shake the basket enough times. Are these homemade chips or frozen chips? If they are homemade chips, 200 deg C is too high. The Philips Airfryer cookbook recommends soaking the cut chips in water for 30 minutes, then draining, drying, coating in a little oil, and cooking at 180 deg C.
If it's frozen chips, then 200 deg C sounds okay. Are you cooking them from frozen and giving the basket a shake a couple of times during cooking?
I just cut up and dry the Potatoes & Pumpkin with a towel, place them in a wide shallow dish and add a little Olive Oil not much, as it seems to cover over the potatoes easily using my hands, I use Roast Vegetable Sprinkle, then put them is the Air fryer then cook for about 15 minutes, or more turning them over at half time using 2 desert spoons ..I just clean out the base later with a paper towel. & brush clean the strainer. Left overs wrapped in Puff pastry is so quick to cook . A Tomato cut in half, heated in the microwave for less than a minute goes well with the chips .

Hi, I posted this question last week but have not yet got a final reply. Could you please advise if the Grill Pan Accessory for Viva Collection Airfryer, part number 882991020010 will fit the HD9220/ 50 model. It says on your website it is specifically compatible with the HD9220/ 20 (black) model, but does not mention other HD9220 models. As it does not appear to be available anywhere in store, I would need to order it directly from Phillips and have it posted out, and would therefore like to know if it fits before ordering. It seems likely that it would, if the digits after the slash refer only to colour, but would like confirmation before ordering ( i.e. get someone at Phillips to try it in a HD9220/ 50 model (white) for me and confirm it fits!). Oherwise I will have to pay 2 lots of postage if I order it, it doesn't fit and has to be returned.
