Sickness throughout the ship
My mother, aunt and uncle have just returned after five weeks at sea ( departed 25 th September to Hawaii). They were cabin bound for over half the trip with a very agressive viral chest infection. My mother spent $800 on doctors and treatment on the ship. At one stage they thought she had pnumonia or the flu, however there were a lot of people infected wih this virus. In Auckland the chemist was was full of passengers trying to obtain medicines as the ship had by now run out! I'll be following this up as I'm wondering just how many people wer...Read more
e sick and what sort of infection control could have been in place to reduce the numbers affected eg handing out face masks. For the first week when they weren't sick they had a great time but it quickly deteriorated. No more cruising for them!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Do not feel quite 'new'
I have also returned with the aggressive cough for most of the last week. Add to that the viscious diarheagh for several days after and I am not impressed. The entertainment on board was the same for third consecutive time, eg Adam Dean and Billy London's jokes. Accomodation was fine, staff were very friendly. The food was rather boring and I believe catered for Americans, ie lots of sugar and cream and of little substance. The surcharge slugged at most ports on top of port fees ($25) was unreasonable and not explained or advised in advance. These fees were collected whether you landed or not. The television in the rooms is mindlessly repetitive. I think I will reconsider my next booking.

booking process great, embarkation and disembarkation process fantastic. staterooms dated but comfortable. impressed with quantity and quality of food, but menu in dining rooms got a little repetitive, good if you like seafood.waiting staff and most staff excellent.entertainment a little lacklustre, there were one or two good entertainers. activities seemed to overlap, which made it hard to participate when having early dinner seating. could not get a seat in vista lounge for trivia, tried several times but gave up. there seemed to be photogr...Read more
aphers around every corner waiting to pounce. also cost of photos very high. disappointed with hairdresser service, made appointment for last formal night, was left waiting for over an hour after appointment time, had to walk out as i was late for dinner and had friends and my husband waiting. wanted nice hair do for formal portraits, did not happen had to rush and do my own hair, still did formal portraits, which cost an arm and a leg, but felt obliged to buy, as hubby insisted. to be honest some photos we took ourselves turned out better then professional photos. even my mum said i looked horrible. so ladies give yourselves lots of time for these services as they are very slow and unreliable, and it can lead to disappointment . laundromat facilities are average, with many machine not working, and there are very few available, spent the best part of 90 minutes watching my washing going around in a very small room with no ventilation. also advise not to pre purchase beverage cards and coffee cards as they are actually available cheaper once you get on board, so there is no incentive. did get the difference refunded. this was my first cruise and i enjoyed some aspects of it, but i would do more research before booking another cruise. air conditioning was also rather poor, cabin got very warm and stuffy, certain parts of ship especially casino got quite cold, i have returned home with the worst cough and runny nose i have ever had in my life. i certainly don't feel like i have come back brand new.Similar opinion? Disappointing
I'm 33 and recently cruised in August the Treasures of Asia 12 nights on the Dawn Princess. I expected a cruise with older passengers but I wasn't prepared for what I experienced with a majority of them in their late 60's and 70's even 80's hobbling around the ship in their gophers and walking frames - exactly what I read in another review it was like having a holiday in a nursing home..... To match this there were no activities that would interest my generation. Activities included carpet bowls, knitters meetings and seminars on dealing with a...Read more
rthritic pain haha to name a few... The only joy I got was the food buffet and getting off in Singapore where I stayed for 4 extra nights with my mum. Even mum I'm her mid 60's had enough and was ready to jump off haha with the constant whinging from the older peeps on board. Fantastic crew I couldn't fault how lovely and hard working they were, so friendly too. The crew were amazing!! and our cabin was great but that's all the positive's I can say. So if your 40 years or younger I strongly recommend you don't take this cruise.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Excellent cruise and crew, shame about the rude elderly Australian Passengers
Having just returned from a 26 night SE Asia cruise, I can say that the Dawn Princess was a great experience for me.
I am lactose intolerant and found that the food options were many and varied which was great.
The crew are exceptional.
The entertainment was almost always terrific.
My negative experiences?
The on board web site was a crock of poo and never matched the day's events. The Television information channel was a joke. Both of these are handled by a 3rd party though and not the fault of the ship.

Worst month of my life
Just spent the last 28 days of my life.it was like spending a month in an old folks home (nothing against old people) I have never seen so many Zimmerman frames in my life. Then every port you call into you have to pay visa fees (weather you get off or not ).The biggest waste of money never again

caution on booking early
south east asia cruise july 2016 food-service-staff excellent but we were very disillusioned to discover that we had no on board credit despite booking 9 months ahead and paying full price, others on board paid lower prices and received $100-$400 on board credit when Specials were advertised closer to sailing time, our second cruise but likely to be our last with princess unless some extra special offers are forthcoming on a fairer basis, most discriminative and UNFAIR.

Wonderful trip to PNG
This was our fifth cruise with Princess. This trip was very well run with an informative captain (the best ever), a well run tender system and great dining. The staff were all very attentive and the shows were terrific. The relentless sales of cheap junk were a bit wearing. Overall enjoyable holiday with minimal illness on board.

Never again
Did the Japan Cherry Blossom festival cruise 42 days. Sea Princess needs work.
*major plumbing problems (no excuse as this ship was dry-docked for two months last last year)
*bad management of two tender ports, we waited over two hours to disembark
*health & hygiene standards not the best, over 50% of pax came down with a virus. Many pax already infected were not screened at boarding.
*Have never seen so many electric buggies, with people on them feeling they had right of passage
*Shows very ordinary
* Staff wonderful under difficult circumstances
*Cost cutting very evident

In May 2016 I posted a review regarding Sea Princess which unfortunately my husband and I traveled on for 42 days. He of course was unlucky enough to be infected. All the facts I stated in that review obviously have not been taken seriously and it saddens me to see over 200 people infected by a gastric virus disembarking today 4th Jan 2018 in Brisbane from the Sea Princess (a ship that should have been retired 4 yrs ago). Do your home work folks before you travel. Here you are taking a chance with your life. NOT GOOD !! KMac2 comments

'An excellent cruise'
We did the 12 night cruise from Fremantle to Sydney and could not fault it. This is the 3rd cruise we have done with Princess and I must admit after reading some of the reviews about the Dawn Princess we were a bit dubious, but we were certainly pleasantly surprised. We could not fault any aspect of the cruise. Our cabin, the service and food everything was outstanding, She is an older ship but beautifully maintained, and a credit to Princess cruises and their staff. So don't listen to reviews, some people must take a lot of pleasing. We will definitely be back to do our 4th cruise real soon.

First And Last Cruise With Princess Cruises
My husband and I recently completed a Princess Cruises 13 night cruise to Vanuatu and New Caledonia on Dawn Princess. The good point of the cruise was the food selection and quality was good in all of the eating venues.
However we had a few negatives for the cruise which would mean we would never use Princess Cruises again. Our main problem was the bed mattress. It was well used and had two deep furrows running from head to foot. The outsides had no support so you felt like you would roll out of bed. We raised the issue to our room steward who...Read more

Hi There,
Just returned from our 12 night Cruise on the Dawn Princess Departing at White Bay Terminal on the 29th of Jan 21016 and Arriving back at Circular Quay Overseas Passenger terminal on Wed the 10th of February 2016.
As a New Elite member on board the Dawn Princess they certainly look after you. Some of the perks are Free Internet. The amount of satellite Internet depends on the length of the Cruise. embarkation / Disembarkation, priority reception Que. I have done 31 Cruises now and I must say that Princess Cruises are a cut above the rest. The food is superior, The Live shows are superior and the general service is exceptional compared to a lot of other cruise lines. The current UK Cruise director " Billy London" is a fantastic guy. He would come over and chat to me on a daily basis. He has had 39 years experience on Cruise ships all over the World. I was really happy with the Stateroom on Rivera deck, however the toilets broke down and the carpet was a bit smelly for a few days. Apart from that the only other negative was that some of the food like the Bolognase and a few other meals were drenched in salt. Apart from that the food was Fantastic.Similar opinion? Dawn Princess questionable hygene
We went on a cruise on the Dawn in September 2015. Firstly I got a severe chest infection and am still coughing and feeling unwell, I am also still suffering with bowel problems, tests show I have a parasite in my system from drinking contaminated water from overseas or on a cruise ship, unfortunately and rather stupidly I drank the water from the jug in the cabin. I agree with the other people who complained about the air conditioning on the Dawn, it is such an old ship and should be thoroughly cleaned on a regular basis as it seems to be a ...Read more
problem with this ship, there was water leaking from the air conditioning continually and in different parts of the ship no wonder so many people leave the cruise with either chest infections or bowel problems. I have previously cruised on the Sun Princess and had no problem whatsoever and am looking forward to having another cruise on the Golden Princess, but if the Dawn was the only cruise ship I could go on I would never cruise again, she is an old tub and needs to be pensioned off.Similar opinion? Bronchitis And Chest Complaints Dawn Princess
18th Sep to 23 Oct 2015 Dawn Princess. Staff were lovely and the food was excellent with healthy choices available but something wrong that so many came down with colds, bronchitis and even pneumonia. Only warned about hygiene processes a week before cruise completed. Shop sold out of decongestant which everyone sick needed. I seriously think about 75% got sick. Maybe lack of fresh air in air conditioning, ducts needing cleaning, lack of hand washing stations (only in toilets or when entering restaurants but needed at top of every stairs), old ship needing decontamination. Something is seriously wrong. Husband got bronchitis and I still have a chest complaint that won't budge.

Went on Dawn Princess Cruise D522, 18/9/2015 to 23/10/2015. Worst holiday of our lives. Our 4th and last cruise with Princess. Food in buffet was terrible. Why am I still coughing almost 3 months later.
I boarded the Dawn Princess in Fremantle on 20 August 2015 to cruise around to Sydney via the north. This was a very special cruise for me to recharge my batteries. I have a son with an acquired brain injury and an elderly husband who needs continual support. I went on the cruise for R & R and to get my energy reinvigorated after a frantic first half of the year.
I found the Vista Theatre to be very cold and had to take my sparse warm clothes every time we went into it. As we spent much time in that theatre, I eventually asked the front co...Read more
unter staff if the air conditioning could be turned down, before there was an epidemic on ship. I considered the temperature differential as we sailed north would only add to the problem. I was told that the air conditioning engineers were in charge of that and they knew best. Passenger (dis) Services could only report on room temperatures. Doh! Nothing was done. In late August (before Darwin) I started coughing. Many passengers had similar problems. I had two days in my cabin exhausted and being aware of not infecting other people. However by then I was quite hungry so ventured out. Except for breakfast I had all my meals in the restaurants so I was not touching any utensils or coughing over food as many people were in the buffet areas. I continually cleaned my hands with hand disinfectant after touching anything other people may have touched as a preventative. I believe that I controlled my infection and took all precautions not to catch other peoples infections and colds. Too bad other people were not as thoughtful. I observed many passengers sneezing and coughing without any attempt to cover their mouths. I believe that Dawn Princess has a Duty of Care to passengers and should highlight the need for hand washing and implement adequate infection control. As for the cold temperature in the Theatre I was disgusted. It was very warm outside then extremely cold inside. No wonder there was so much coughing and sneezing.Similar opinion? 6 weeks shy of our second cruise
Then at 53 and wife's 50th birthday (Oct/Nov 2014), went on our first cruise around NZ and loved it, previously to having children I did the overseas fly holidays but after this experience all my holidays will now be cruising, was brilliant, not all staff were 100 percent but a good majority were, the food was excellent, always something to do but, some of the on board acts should have been thrown overboard but still would rate our holiday 10 out of 10, looking forward to the Pacific Islands (Golden Princess) now, can't wait, and I'm sure we'll...Read more

Good but not great!
My Wife and I went on the Dawn Princess in November 2014 to New Zealand.
The Good
Food - This was generally very good. - I only had one meal which i didn't like and i mistook what it was in the first place.
Accommodation - Rooms are a step up from P and O Jewel even ( balcony both times)
Service- Our table waiter was excellent. Pretty much every person in the serving department was excellent.
( I exclude room service as i will discuss this further below)
Destination- New Zealand was amazing, just awesome and I am an Aussie so generally saying anything nice about New Zealand is heresy.

Great well managed
Went on Dawn Princess April this year. Found embarkation very smooth and staff and crew were excellent. I know the pax were elderly but it was still fun for everyone.
In fact I have booked for ANOTHER Princess Cruise August 1st around UK.
Apart from booking problems with Princess I can recommend the cruise.
Go for it!! You will enjoy the ships.
Anyone can find fault with something!!!

Questions & Answers
Cazzaasked
We have just booked our cruise from Fremantle to Singapore on May 14th. Are meals included in our ticket please?
2 answers
Yes...all meals are included, of some description, such as the Free Dining Rooms, Buffet, plus on some ships if there is a Hamburger bar, Pizza bar, Ice cream bar, these are also free. The "Specialty Dining " venues eg. Asian, French and up-market you will pay a cover charge, which sometimes can be quite expensive. Log onto your ships web site and you will get all your answers there. We ate quite well on our voyage although there were occasions where food was not as hot as one would like, and putting up with some very rude passengers, but this was probably the fault of staff on our ship. Don't let it stop you. I am sure you will enjoy yourselves and eat well.
Yes all meals included. Breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner, supper and anything you can fit in between.

We have booked a 14 day cruise from Syd to newzealand on the Dawn and have missed out on booking excursions online how quick to they usually fill up? Should we book ASAP as soon as we get on board?
2 answers
Hello, yes, to avoid the very long lines, book as soon as you can at the desk.
Hi Danv80.
Save ypur money & book your on shore excursions when you get on shore.
You will find better & less expensive tours on shore. Alsi they are less commercial & money grubbing than the ones in board. We did not find any problems with getting a tour anywhere in NZ when we went ashore. And like I said, more informal, more time to spend where you want & only half the price or less.
Heres a tip. Give your guide a $10.00 AUD tip & you will get over rhe top service.
Hope this helps.

we are going on princess dawn from Bris to Freemantle, any tips would be great, also wondering if the drink pachage is worth it at $73 per day, because 6 or 7days we will be in port

Hi Guys stay away from the drink package. Unless you want to drink a doxen bottles of beer a day each. You both have to ve a card. One cant buy for the other so to speak. it is a rip off. My wife & I purchased the non alcoholic cards at $80.00 each. This only provided us with the soda fountain drinks. Cordial & water. Pay as you go if you are not big drinkers. It really is a floating trailer park. Dont get suckrd into buying "extras" & if you do shore tours, book them on shore & save 100% of cost.
Enjoy if you can.
Hi, I would not bother- same with the coffee card, the coffee was so bad that we hardly used the coffee card and stuck with instant coffee. cocktails were between 8 and 11 dollars, beers were about the same as pub prices, so not overly inflated.
Hi have a look at the post I put up on the drinks package, might help .That is if all the ships on Princess have similar deals
