Save yourself the trouble!
I have had my Koleos 2 years. I bought from a dealer, executive driven demo. Diesel, panoramic sunroof, Bose sound, only 9000k. Seemed a great deal.
It has been nothing but a problem! The hands free did not come on this model so it was included on sale. They installed a system that did not work. Put in new buttons and a system that was incapable of functioning with the cars sound system. This was eventually replaced with another aftermarket unit that required a separate screen to be installed.
You would think Renault would know all this!...Read more
! I now have redundant buttons and a partly functional hands free unit. Problems started when I got heavy shaking through the steering wheel four months later. I took it to the Renault service centre where I purchased it and they told me it needed a wheel alignment. This was done free of charge and I took it away for the weekend. Same problem. Took it back in when we returned where they tested the car and 'needed it to have a look over'. In short, they had the car 9 weeks! It was leaking oil from the engine, required a full drive shaft replacement amongst so many other things. All warranty repairs but they refused to give me a report of what works were undertaken. All I was told was that it was 'Significantly major repair.' !5 comments
I had few things go wrong in the warranty period and they were fixed, without too many issues, by Renault. They even replaced my rear carpet, with a genuine Renault rubber floor protector which is far... Read more
better than the original. They also replaced central radio/temp display and sensor although it made no difference to the wildly inaccurate temp reading! However, a sun visor and two end caps on windscreen scuttle failed outside warranty, and these parts are not cheap. That these parts failed on a 3 year old car is pathetic, my other car is a '97 model with triple+ the mileage of the Koleos and these parts still work perfectly.Don't these cars come with a 5 year unlimited KMs warranty? Im looking at a 2013 model and the dealer advised that I could have the remainder of the 5year warranty plus I could purchase an extra three... Read more

Love the car .... but not sure if i would buy it again .....
Love this car, great to drive, still haven't figured out the aircon properly though. Great sound system. We bought the very first model, so unfortunately no sat nav. Petrol guage is extremely random .... it has never ever gone to full after filling, even if you overflow the petrol... so i am always a little dubious about how much actually left in the car when getting towards empty.
Servicing is no good- it took 6 WEEKS and 3 trips to the service dept to get a replacement drivers side sun visor when the spring broke. NONE available in austra...Read more
lia, it had to come from France. I could have flown there and back myself 20 times in the time it took waiting. I spent the whole summer driving around with sticky tape on the windscreen to hold the visor. Of course the problems only started after it came out of warranty.. comfort, easy to drive, love the full length sun roof Servicing, Sun roof not working properly now..not enough power to close it.. waiting until next wservice to tackile that on2 comments
This is my car and my problems only times it by 1000 and you get close to where I am at!
Glad I'm not the only one. Replaced the sunroof day of delivery, and broken parcel thingy, then tried to fix the rattling sunroof six times, replaced the steering wheel, roof leaks, there's mould in ... Read more
the carpet, rear passenger door handle and lock replaced, leather splits, tyres wear out fast, speedo out by six ins and it's a bloody jinx! I have had seven small not at fault accidents in two years. My broker recommends getting a psychic cleanse or some new age crystals. Anyone want to buy it?? ..Similar opinion? Love everything about my car!
I fell in love with this car the first I got inside. It ticked all boxes I wanted and even more. Was on the top of our price range as there was only Privilege model left at the moment (we received good deal). But it was worth of spending more for the luxury features and extras. It's near to one year as we got our Privilege model. No disappointments so far. Does everything promised to do. Can't be happier.
Stearing, cruise control, comfortable rear & front seats, great for long trip with family, glass roof, boot capacity, quiet engine, storage s...Read more

My rear carpet disintegrated over 3 years (but looked daggy within first year). Renault replaced with up-market rubber mat with partitions.

Find out how Renault Koleos compares to other Midsize / Medium SUVs
Know better, choose better.
Excellent
This is an excellent car, and one that anyone purchasing a small 4WD SHOULD consider. It is based on the Nissan X-Trail so the 4WD credentials are good. The car is designed in France and features some unique design elements and functional ideas. It is built in Korea at the Renault-Samsung plant, which appears to be excellent in quality control as evidenced by the quality finish of this vehicle.
Quality, Presentation, Design Style, Value for money and Unique
Seats a little flat, deceiving size

Update on previous review
We've now done 16,00km on our Koleos and remain very happy with it. The fuel economy improved a little, and since I started using 91 octane instead of PULP, improved slightly more. Waste of money using PULP (dealer suggested trying 98 when I complained early on about the poor economy!). One pleasant surprise was service cost at 10,000km, under $200. For our previous SUV (a larger vehicle with a Mercedes-origin diesel engine) the cheapest service over 80,000km was $250, the dearest- $1250! The latter was at 60k, and did not involve a timing belt...Read more
change as the Merc diesel doesn't have one... So, although fuel economy is a little worse with Koleos, servicing costs are markedly lower. Apparently there is little difference between "A" & "B" sevices for the petrol motor at 10k intervals- only the aircon filter is changed at a "B". The local Nissan dealer can't do warranty work- but all the car needs is attention to the ambient temperature gauge which is erratic and inaccurate. The cruise control is quirky and mildly annoying, but you get used to it. Less so the stereo controls which are a long reach, poorly labelled, and difficult to use whilst under way. Volume controls behind steering wheel, where cruise should be. Pretty much everything (except we didn't get the colour we wanted!) Cruise and stereo controls April 15th 2022 Update: Comfortable and stylish A terrific car, very happy we bought it. The Koleos is unique and different to the usual run of SUVs. Our initial choice was the VW Tiguan, which has better rear seat legroom but poor luggage space and only comes with a space-saver spare. The Koleos has a full-sized 17" spare wheel. We also liked the Koleos Privilege "Camel" i.e. beige and light grey interior. I have a strong dislike of dark interiors for Australian conditions. We got the sunroof with our car and hardly ever use it: a waste of money.2 comments

, unfortunately more arose once warranty period expired. These include- driver's side sunvisor broken, ends of scuttle (below windscreen, behind bonnet) disintegrating, and leaking rear shock absorber. I might expect these problems on a $20 Chinese car, not a $50k French/Korean one. Parts aren't cheap, and if not in stock have to be ordered through France despite being made in Korea. Another issue is resale- the new price has plummeted though discounting, knocking thousands off my value.I think you'll find that no matter how much you pay for any new car, in few years they're all worth about the same (not much) unless it's a dealer price which doesn't reflect any real market value what so ever.

Better than you think
We looked long and hard at the compact SUV's available and read many reviews before actually getting out there and looking closely at the cars themselves. This one surprised us with its luxury and practicality without the big price tag from some of the "luxury" brand cars.
We almost did not buy the car though....the first dealer we went to visit was rude, and sarcastic. We then relooked at the other cars available before coming back to the Koleos and another dealer. We recommend you do NOT buy the car from Ringwood Renault dealer in Victoria.
Luxury without the price tag

Excellent
We love this car and we are really glad we got it. We have had the dynamic 4x4 petrol for 9 months now. We had to decide between this and the subaru forester. In the end the interior of this car- the style and the features, the visability and the drop down tailgate where the selling features. We wanted a car that was stylish and not something that everyone had, a car that was suitable for someone who was very short and someone who was tall and something that was in our price range- Worth a look!
Stylish, heaps of clever features- we love the a...Read more

Hi Guys, Please help with some advice, I have a 2011 Koleos 2,5l cvt and have had it for 8 years now with no issues, I have not driven it for a week now due to the covid-19 lockdown restrictions. This morning i tried starting the car but the car wouldnt start and shows a "check automatic gearbox" message. what could be the problem and how do i resolve it? The car has given no issues until this morning.
Please advise

Its common or all new cars to throw a real whammy when the battery is down on power or needs replacing. My sons Cleo had messages for gearbox and ecm and a new battery fixed the faults.

lems with inaccurate fuel gauge which is still not repaired and I am now out of warranty. I also have been without my car for approx 6 weeks while they try to diagnose the faults and fly parts in from France. I have been given no compensation at all, not even in the way of a free service. To add insult to injury, I was forced to take a loan car from the dealer as they were unable to identify the fault and was in an accident. I now have to pay $1000 excess when my own insurance excess is only $400 and Renault Australia have told me that I will just have to wear this expense as they have no control of the dealers insurance excess charges. I have now asked for them to refund me the current market value of the car as it has never been fully repaired and I am really concerned that the major problem I had last year where the car engine would cut out while I was travelling at 100km on the freeway has not been fixed properly given the fact that they have never completely repaired the fault with the fuel gauge. Renault are trying to tell me it is normal for a fuel gauge to fluctuate, even though mine will drop by about a quarter of a tank and then go back up again, even when stationery. The long and the short of it is, DON'T buy a Renault. They can not diagnose the faults, cost and arm and a leg to service and their commitment to customer service and quality is non existent!!! I wish everyone else out there who has posted positive feedback good luck when they start to have trouble with their car and are left stranded by Renault!!
