After 35+ years of solar hot water we have a 52S300S7 - which is terrible!
Solar Hiline 52S300We have had solar roof mounted hot water for most of our married lives - 35+ years. We moved into our new house on Nov 6 2015. The builders wouldn't fit anything but a Rheem solar unit, so we accepted it. We always struggled to get water hot enough to wash the dishes. Just after Anzac day I rang Rheem to complain. Their local installer rang and told me that he told all his customers to turn on the booster on Anzac day and turn it off 3 months later. He also said that it should cost no more than $30 in electricity costs for the quarter. We tried
... Read more his advice. It cost well over $200 for the quarter, but we did have hot water. I turned it off and measured the temperatures morning and night for 2 weeks. Highest was 48 c [once] the rest are in the low 40's and down to 24 c in the mornings. We took out the tempering valve as we thought this could fix it - no change So it doesn't get hot and won't keep any heat it collects. We last had a Solahart which kept the heat for 3 days. I will be contacting Rheem tomorrow. Peter Watkins 0421 239 078 May 19th 2017 Update: Rheem Solar System. Great if you want an electric system with occasional solar boost We built a new house, asked for a Solarhart solar hot water system. The builder didn't fit Solarhart but offered Rheem as "It is every bit as good as the Solarhart!" IT IS NOT!!!!!An update.
We contacted Rheem who sent their agent out to examine the unit. His conclusions were that the unit was working properly. The excess power bill was because our solar electricity panels are

He did tell us that Solarhart and Rinnai systems would overheat, boil and empty the contents of the tank on hot days in summer. He also said that our hot water panels would only heat the water to double the ambient air temperature. He would not answer the question directly about why he told us $30 for the quarter and then we paid much more
FURTHER UPDATE - the dealer came out to sort "my warranty problems" according to Rheem - he took temperatures on a very hot, sunny day, wasted about 25 litres of water and told me that he wasn't the

I expect that either they do a mix and match - like apparently their opposition do - or they remove it and I get a system that works as it should - solar with electric backup - NOT AN ELECTRIC SYSTEM WITH A SOLAR BACKUP! Solar Hiline 52S300Same as solar edwards and in WA which has higher saline levels mine suffered from anoxic corrossion on the west end tank plug. Maybe last longer with less salt. Replaced by rheem and I had to pay for install. My best friend had same problem. No more warranty. Wouldn't buy another one. Thanks tony

My cousin just replaced the smaller model of solar Edwards. Same problem 3 years as well. The warranty replacement of mine must be just about due for replacement again. Just what you need at 66 y old getting up on roof. What a crap design.
