Good watch, ordinary battery life
The watch itself is cool- works well, never leaked. However if you get 18 months out of the battery you’re doing well. Likewise the wrist band- I’m about to post off the watch for the second replacement. I’ve been through two batteries as well. And that’s not using the stop watch function and the light only every now and then. My daughter’s version also made it to about 18 months before battery went. From talking to others this seems typical. Just a pain posting it off, coughing up more coin and not having it for a couple of weeks. I have another digital watch, with very simple functions, however it’s been going for about 15 years. I think Rip Curl would do well improving the battery life. And the longevity of the wrist bands.
Purchased in October 2021 for A$250.00.

Not worth the price
Band broke after 3 months and was advised by Ripcurl the band is not covered under warranty.
Also was advised prior to purchase by ripcurl via email an android app was in development and wouldnt be far away. 1 year later when contacted again they said they are no longer producing an app and have no plans to in the future. Will say what you want to hear to make a sale.
Purchased in January 2021.

Great watch
Awesome watch it does exactly as advertised, the app is great and is easy to navigate. The watch itself has a long battery life in between charges and is easy to charge. It fits well and is very comfortable, light and easy to operate it also reads easy while in the surf.

A great watch for surfers.
Had mine for about a year, it's survived a lot of use however I'd probably be reluctant to use it every day, I pretty much only wear it when I'm surfing, but will wear it for a few weeks at time if I'm surging everyday. With that in mind it's been very durable but I probably would have killed it by now if I wore it every single day.
It's comfortable and very secure on the wrist, can be hard to get on and off but to me that's a bonus as you know it's not going to get ripped off your wrist when the swell is chunky. Speaking of chunky, the wat...Read more
ch is chunky, it's a large watch. Doesn't fit too well under a snug fitting wetsuit and it get caught up in the arms of the wetsuit when don your wetsuit, so careful manipulation is required.....or, you can take it off put your witty on then put the watch on, sounds like a mission but really isn't that bad. What's really really cool about this each is the features. Using this watch properly has so many benefits not only with monitoring you surging and performance but being able to track and trend conditions at your favorite breaks and record your best surfs on different boards in different conditions. It really ads another dimension to your surging experience and if you take the time to know and understand the features of the watch you can get a lot out of it I got the watch primarily for its gps aligned tide function which has proven to me to be quite accurate but not perfect, but the closets I've ever seen to bang accurate in remote locations. It has enabled me to be on the money wherever I am on the planet with regards to tidal info, and I've appreciated that a lot . The graphics are lame for a watch of this price point but all that's been improved with the new one version 2, All in all I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the watch if it's something you'll use for all its features other than telling the time, but the new version will be even better!Similar opinion? Well.....Lets hope that the new Search GPS 2 due out in October is a vast improvement...
I have had mine for around 3 years and I do love the functionality of the watch. But.......I have had mine back in for repairs 7 times... and it has been fully replaced twice!!! I have been advised that I am the unluckiest owner in the ...WORLD!! It was fully replaced 18 months ago and started to leak water 4 months ago. Just been advised by Rip Curl that it is out of warranty and will cost me $249 to get repaired. Told them to forget it.
I will wait for the new version to come out and give it a go. I certainly hope that it is a vast improvement on my last one....
The team at Surfection in Mosman where I purchased it from have been fantastic in dealing with this issue.

Didn’t even last 12 months
This is an expensive watch. The band broke within the first several weeks and the watch stopped working yesterday (after a battery change). Rip curls returns policy is so difficult (not the first watch we have had to return) we can’t be bothered and will just go with another brand next time

Need a lot of improvement
The watch is not build to last the rubber band is really fragile and the bad news is that is only one piece with the watch.
The other problem is the accuracy of the data provided, it’s really off.
Also I had a problem with the watch trying to locate signal.
It is a really good idea but unfortunately it wasn’t well designed.

Best watch I’ve ever owned
I really don’t know why there is so many negative reviews about this watch, it’s awesome. I’ve had mine for 3 1/2 years and it’s still going strong. It’s a game changer. I can look back on every surf I’ve had in the past 3 1/2 yrs. Ripcurl are really fair and helpful if you have a problem to. 10 out of 10

Worst watch I have ever had!!!
Do not buy one of these overpriced, basic, horrible watches. It is all just a gimmic disguised as a watermans watch. For $500 I would expected a lot more watch, its junk! The GPS feature never works, for a wetsuit company that prides itself on its rubber the rubber around the face of the watch is disgraceful and rips and deteriorates at the slightest bump. What ever you do look elsewhere and DONT buy one of these pieces of crap. I contacted Rip Curl about the band but apparently it isn't covered under warranty. Absolute Joke! Buy a watch from a watch company!!!!

Rip Curl Tidemaster 2 - a surfing watch that is clearly NOT capable of going in the water
I would give zero stars if possible.
I purchased a RipCurl Tidemaster watch in 2012 to use when I go surfing and have had no end of trouble with it.
Firstly, the battery life is appalling meaning it must be returned almost every 12-18 months for replacement at $50 each time.
First battery died withing 12 months of purchase, returned to rip curl who advised the watch is "water damaged". I don't know how they figure this since it is a SURFING WATCH!!! I.e. of course it has been in the water. They replaced it under warranty, made me pay for a battery and acted like they were doing me a solid favour.
Next battery replacement the same issue - water damaged. They repaired it again under warranty.

Always has trouble connecting to satellites! I've missed out tracking my best surfs of my life in Indo because this stupid watch can't pick up any gps satellites! Devoted to say the least! Even at home in Aus it has its good days and it's bad I regards to picking up gps! Just not good enough for how much spondoola I payed!

Rip Curl = Rip-off
My Rip Curl watch stopped working properly after a bit more than a year. I sent it back to the service centre who informed me that the battery is faulty and that Rip Curl only has 1 year warranty on batteries! They sent me an invoice for $49.99 for the replacement. My watch was $159 and a standard battery in a watch (and the one I bought was pretty basic!) should last about 4-5 years. If the battery is faulty it should be covered by Ripcurl. Also a jewelry store can replace batteries for $15-20 dollars. Even after complaining Rip Curl made me p...Read more
ay for a repair of a watch that I didn't damage and is just extremely poor quality and stopped working. This is not what you expect buying a watch of $159 after less than 1.5 years! I am already extremely frustrated with the process and without a watch for almost 2 months as this is how long it has taken to get to this stage. Now I had enough and will just pay for it, but it was definitely the last time I will buy any Rip Curl product!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY.
The quality of the rubber on this watch is not up to it. I purchased a gps watch less than a year ago and the firstly the band hold broke within 6 months. Rip Curl charge me for a new one. Then the rubber around the watch face all split and peeled and when I sent it to Rip Curl to be replace under warranty they said that it was part of the band so it wasn't covered under warranty!!! I have to pay another $110 to fix it. which I have past on as it will just split again in a few month. I work in an office so I haven't been work on the tools with ...Read more
it or anything like that. Just a low quality product at a high quality price. Also it is too big and apart from the gps it is really basic technology. Don't believe there sales pitch. Don't waste your money. Look at other brands or wait until the product improves.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Cool factor watch for surfers
I don't wear watches but I got this one as a gift. I have to say its pretty good.
It gives me tide information with one click, and records my surf sessions including wave speed. I don't know if any of this information is useful but its definitely got cool factor.
The watch itself feels a little light and I'm not sure if it will last the punishment of being in the ocean a couple of days every week but we will see.
All this stuff also syncs with my wife's iPhone but doesn't have an app for my Samsung Note 4.
Overall so far I'm pleasantly surprised and loving this little gadget...lets hope it holds up.

I am interested to know about the accuracy of the GPS. On occasion I have used the playback feature on the app. As it tracks me, on about 4 of my waves I appear to have caught the wave out to sea, as it shows me paddling towards the shore with the white line and then turns in to a blue line and heads out to sea, why is that happening? Also it showed I caught 36 waves at least 15 of which were over 150metres, best surf of my life that I never recall happening!

I've never experienced these issues. Accuracy and function have alas been fine with mine
