What is it made for?

published

This is a bargain brand product for sure! It takes forever to heat up and the temp selector seems to be just a cosmetic feature.
It sprays little bits of water ok I guess but I burned my package on this iron trying to crease my khakis.
I would recommend this to anyone shopping for the In-Laws.

Good So Far

published

We got this late last year and I am happy with it but reading some of the other reviews I am a bit worried.
Our one works exactly as expected and we have had no issues. My only complaint is that the on light is a bit dim and I have forgotten to switch it off a few times because of this.
I don't need to iron very often but this has worked well every time I have used it.
Lets see how long it lasts!

Waste of money

published

It worked well for the first couple of weeks, I thought I had bought a good iron. How I can't get the thing to heat up, maybe it's a safety feature and it's done it's job too well by not heating up at all. I ended up buying a cheap iron and I have had no trouble with it. Not buying this brand again .

Useless!

published

This iron is useless! You can spend 5 minutes ironing the same piece of material and the creases will not come out. It heats ok and looks nice and seems safe but just does not remove creases. I have given up wth this iron and gone out and bought one that works.

Russell Hobbs steam glide iron

Purchased this iron suppose to be non stick left marks on my clothes & would have to be worst iron I've ever used. Wouldn't recommend this product I will be taking this back to Harris scarfe and getting me money back. I tried using iron cleaner which was useless on the iron.

Not a fan of this iron.

published

I found the sole plate of this iron gets very sticky and dirty. It has ruined many a craft project by leaving residue. Supposed to be non stick. Contacted the company and I was told to buy some iron cleaner!! On the plus side it is very safe. Beeps when left on and switches off after a period of time. Heats up well. Stopped using it because I got sick of cleaning sole plate all the time.

Heap of crap

published

Heap of crap, keeps beeping and switching off, turned the heat to max, to min, emptied some water, filled it with water. Only a week old and it's in the bin. Lights flash off and on, nothing in manual to id the problem. Switches itself off after about thirty seconds.

Russell Hobbs or Russell hopeless

published

I just purchased a new iron from Russell hopeless and the thing just beeps all the time. It is useless. There is no trouble shooting in the manual, nothing on the Russell hopeless website and I have spent a couple of hours trying to find what is wrong with it. Apparently, the beeping and flashing red-light means it is over heating and it auto switches off. I would think Russell hopeless would have a warning about this in their documentation and website, since it could be due to an electrical fault with the equipment. Dangerous. But nothing. The one and only time I would purchases anything from this dodgy company.

Meh

It's a good iron for its price. The button on mine has gone sticky. Maybe I shouldn't iron so much.. I'll be trying something different, perhaps a tefal. If you need a good cheap iron it's ok. I also didn't feel it was scorching hot either... I prefer a hot iron.

Steaming hot - Not !

published

Bought a Steam Xpress and has been the worst iron purchase in 30 years ... burns clothing (which sticks to the plate) and if the temperature is turned down to avoid burning, water leaks all over clothing causing staining. Not happy especially as I paid $150 for this model! Terribe job Russell Hobbs .... just terrible ! Beginning to think there is a problem with the thermostat but having tried to clean the burnt plate there's no chance it'll be accepted back at the vendor.

great iron very happy

published

I purchased from Good Guys 2 weeks back. Could not be happier, all the features of the expensive, sturdy build, great design! It iron really well and is easy to use. Gets hot really quickly and plated surface doesnt stick at all. Love my new iron. I Would highly recommend.

lasted 2 weeks. Thermostat faulty: only went to luke warm

published

Price was only $40 so cheap. for a Russell Hobbs product. Nice & light. turned the temperature down for woollens. turned the temperature up to cottons. Stayed at low heat. then just died. Left and turned on the next day. Just went to cool warm then died again. I think I will go back to my old Aldi one.

Couldn't be better

published

I am not sure if I am reviewing the same iron as the previous reviewers or that RH has improved their design. It had all the features that make a good iron: nice weight, long cord, large tank, rubber grip and good ceramic plate. I did not have the problem of sticking onto fabric and even though the hottest setting was not that hot, it coped with cotton shirts with ease, not so sure about linen though. I am even looking forward to ironing days. Best of all, I got it on a special at Harris Scarfe's $39!!

Some cons: Max mark hard to see when filling (but not a problem as due to large tank, even if you fill half way it seems to last for more than a basket load), no clip to hold cord together(had to use one from previous iron).

I subscribe to Choice so they can do the hack work. What a disappointment with this iron being rated second on a recent Choice review. The only thing that glided was the money out of my pocket, at least I got a refund from Russell Hobbs. As for Choice, you have set yourself low standards and failed to achieve them, in this instance.

Hopeless

published

Bought based on its high ranking in a recent choice review and low price. We discovered had a big chip out of the base when we took it out of the box. Returned it and it was replaced. Gave the second one a go for a few weeks but it was terrible. It only seemed to work on the absolutely highest temp setting. Even then it took ages to iron a simple cotton shirt and it still didn't look very well ironed. I have lots of silk clothing and it was almost impossible to iron - it pulled and crumpled the silk. The iron didn't 'glide' - it had to be dragged across fabric. Steam shot and spray weren't great. After a few uses we got fed up and returned it.
Nothing
Heavy, very poor ironing performance

Utter garbage

published

Bought this iron for $100 thinking that I was buying a quality item that would last for many years.
A little over 12 months later and it has been binned after tripping our safety switch repeatedly.
Ceramic sole plate proved a dud too, requiring more maintenance than stainless or teflon.
Without a receipt, Target and Russell Hobbs didn't want to know.
Replaced by a $16 cheapie from Woolies.
Never again ANY product from Russell Hobbs.
Felt heavy duty, auto power off
Expensive, no after sales support, ceramic base, tripped safety switch etc...

Where is the indicator telling you what heat you are on. Is it the green light at the lower end?

The heat setting dial is in the middle of the iron underneath the handle. There is a raised plastic knob at the top above the dial (a bit difficult to see as it is the same pale green colour as the base material) that indicates which setting has been chosen. When the dial is turned clockwise as far as it will go this knob will be opposite the "max" & "linen" markings, and the iron will be at its hottest setting. Conversely as you twist the dial anti-clockwise the iron becomes progressively cooler, until is reaches the "synthetic" and then "minimum" settings on the dial.

Your explanation tells me where it should be though I cannot see it. It is in line with the point of the green light which I shall use as a guide instead. Not the best design! Thanks anyway.
