Cordless or corded
Looked to be just what I needed. Use cordlessly on the lawn around the pool and with a cord if needs be in other areas or if it was running out of grunt. Already have a Ryobi cordless blower and very happy. This trimmer has an automatic line feed as against bump feed. Idea sounds good but could not find anywhere an explanation of how it actually worked. Disappointed that the 18 Volt Lithium Ion battery was only 1.5Ah where my Ryobi blower's 18 Volt Lithium Ion battery is a much bigger 4.0Ah. Get the feeling that this might be yesterday's product sold today. Good product for maintaining domestic lawn edges. Would get something else for more serious work.

I purchased the CLT1830 with the 4amh battery after quite a bit of research as I was looking for a light weight unit just for edging and light trimming. This fits my use perfectly, changing from trim to edging with a twist of the handle and the line feeds out perfectly when you stop periodically to allow the line to advance. I did over 200 metres of edging another 30 metres of trimming with the battery on them first bar of discharge on completion. A very easy to use and effective tool.

job that it is designed to do i.e. Domestic gardens not heavy brush cutting work........I have a 25 year old Ryobi Hornet brush cutter that is still performing that job effectively when required. The versatility of the Ryobi 18v one+ system is another attraction as there are plenty of opt.ions to match either the 1.5 or 4 Ah lithium batteries.

Awesome
I read the reviews, both for and against and thought the best way to go is get one, so I got the Ryobi Plus one 18v whipper snipper and the 18v blower for myself for Christmas and I agree with RhysBNE. They are not the Honda 20kg slasher but they do an excellent job for the man in the suburbs. I own a 806 square metre block with the standard of amount of gardens and although I hadn't whipper snipper for about 3 weeks mainly because each time I dread the the thought of getting the thing out of the garage, checking the fuel, line and then pulling...Read more
the starter for about 5 minutes, pulling out the spark plug to check it and then decide to go buy a spark plug because it may or may not be the problem and then when I finally get everything working (2 hours later) I get to start whipper snipping. Meanwhile with the Ryobi,l put the battery in the Ryobi and 20 minutes later I am done. I then go and get the blower and using the same battery, blow all the grass and leaves off my drive way, BBQ area and footpaths and still have enough battery power to give the BBQ area a clean up after Christmas. So to all those doubters, go and get one and if you run out of battery life using a 4 AH battery you must be doing a 5 acre block. For the suburbs they are Awesome.Similar opinion? Much better than expected
Seeing about 50/50 for/against in reviews I read prior to buying, I was dubious. Bought one anyway, from Bunnings, $99 without batteries. I did a least 10 minutes trimming with a small LiIon battery, it still has charge left. Quiet, smooth, instant on, instant off, cuts grass - every thing I need (for a small yard).

"Wish I didn't buy"
I was replacing Chinese petrol model, that was running very average. My brother told me he loved his Ryobi 18v, so I brought one. I already had the drill, saw, earmuffs, batteries. It take forever to cut though grass and edging takes even longer. I've gone back to petrol which I'll replace soon.
Cheap
It doesn't cut the grass

quit good but user manual let down
I have 200 meter path both side + 350 meter + of fence and house 1 18v 4ah battery and it did it all on one battery simple and easy to use as the manual like all Ryobi manuals are low on info like how dose the auto feed work you say who needs to know well it easier then using the manual button on the spool when auto not enough it extends automatically when it stop spinning so just stop and go 3 times and it reedy to go not in manual
light reedy to go is secons grate for mantained lawn not back yard over groths
manual and lack of good info like how long running time on battery how the auto line feed works

Great line trimmer
This one is a great little line trimmer. I brought it from Bunnings, without the battery, as I already have the drill set, and jigsaw. I will be buying the 4Ah 2 battery pack at some stage, but even with the 1,5Ah ones I have, it lasted long enough to trim the edges on my driveway, and gutter, along the path to the mailbox, and around the front garden beds. I'm very pleased with my new trimmer
inexpensive, easy to start, just press the button
Probably would need the 4Ah battery pack

Never again
I bought this product today, got about 10 mins of light work out of the battery life before it stopped working. Sure it doesn't fade - it just stops! I am completely underwhelmed and unsatisfied with this product that I will never go near this or another rechargeable trimmer again. Where on the box is it stated that a charge will last 15 or less minutes? And my trimming involved a lot of stop /starting so in net terms the trimmer probably actually worked for about 6-7 mins . It is very reasonable, considering all the battery hype on the box, that it would last a lot longer than that. Cannot speak lowly enough about this product and I will be returning it to Bunnings tomorrow.
Works for 10 mins
Cannot work for longer than 10 mins

I had only light work to do in my garden and did not need a peterol engine line trimmer so searched online for battery models and referrals. Found that this product looked OK so bought same at Bunnings. Got a blower thrown in and total cost only $200.00.
Battery life is about 20 mins from full charge, but that generally does most of my work in that time span. If you have heavy work do not buy this, buy a motorised model.
But for what it is designed to do, I found it quite effective. Recommended for light work only, but does that very ...Read more

A fantastic addition to my garden tools
Being an over 60 gardener I was struggling with the standard petrol and pull start trimmer. My husband bought the Ryobi 18V Drill so I decided to buy the Ryobi 18V One+ Line Trimmer as he already had the batteries. What a little beauty, so light, always ready to go. We have a 600sqm property which is on a corner which means extra footpath to trim and the battery covers all this area. For my needs it is the best thing I have used in a long time.
Inexpensive and light to handle.
The only negative is the safety switch which has to be held down along with the 'on' trigger. This button tends to hurt my fingers, so I have to think of a better way to hold the safety switch in.

Very happy with this Ryobi 18V Line Trimmer
I bought this add on line trimmer after I'd bought the Ryobi 18V one plus cordless drill kit. I'm very happy with both appliances.
Sure, neither are industrial grade but then they are nowhere near industrial grade prices either. For domestic use its a great system.
Each battery only lasts about 20 minutes which is what I expected and got told at Bunnings. The Bunnings salesman assured me I could get my money back if it was returned promptly with all the packing and in good condition.
I was hesitant about buying it thinking that being bat...Read more

Quiet, easy to use, fast charging with plenty of power!
Firstly: this is a review for a cordless 18V trimmer, NOT an "all the bells and whistles 20kg Honda 4 stroke slasher".
Now the air is cleared (no pun intended), if you want a highly reliable domestic trimmer this is the one for you.
It is super light, cuts the tough stuff and you can hold this thing for an hour and not feel exhausted.
No fumes, no oil, no mess, all a big plus.
No need to mix 2 stroke or store petrol.
I've waited a long LONG time to give my 2 cents on this (not that there's anything wrong with immediate reviews) and I have to say this has gone above all my expectations. ...Read more
As I mentioned above, if you want something that will cut through a small tree, this is not the trimmer for you, however if you want one of the easiest to use outdoor power tools money can buy, do not hesitate. I'm quite amazed at the last review as my experience has been the complete opposite!! I'm about to buy the 36V as a comparison, and if the 36V hedger is anything to go by it's going to be another big leap forward for Ryobi. Why the other big power tool companies (bosch the exception) arn't making similar swappable battery ranges using lithium technology really makes me wonder. *Hot tip* Buy the Ryobi compact cordless drill with the two battery deal and buy one of these without the battery and charger, saves a bit of coin and you have a battery for each :) *Hot tip #2* Fit a wider line for much greater cutting ability. My guess is Ryobi fitted a lightweight line to ensure decent run time. I fitted a 2mm wide line off my petrol trimmer and it cuts through knee high grass like a petrol trimmer! Very light, powerful AND it's cordless! Easy to use, 18 months and still going strong Trigger has a very strong spring which can get annoying after long periods of use2 comments

I love the trimmer. My old electric one was blunt and it cost nearly $100 to get it sharpened so we thought we'd try battery. Im a light weight and slight build so needed to be able to lift it! I cut all of my front hedges with the larger size battery fully charged, I got about 1.40 hrs out of it. Hedge along front and both sides of standardfront yard. No fibration like my old trimmer and no ladders as its blade turns to 45 and 90 degree angles so i walked aolong side to do tops. Back hegde is pitostrum and usually difficult to trim, but this seems to handle that too. I wore out before it did. The blower cleaned up the leaves with the smaller battery in 10 mins. Purchased at bunnings very happy for domestic use.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Do not buy Ryobi 18V One+ Line Trimmer
I bought this from Bunnings without researching on the net as i believe Boxhill VIC Bunning sales persons word that the charge will last from one hour.
First time I used this trimmer it went flat after 15 minutes. Then I tried it for changing 24hrs then it only lasted for 13 minutes.
On the box it makes claims such as "Holds charge 4X longer", "50% more runtime", "Fade Free Power" and "1 Hr Charge". When I ask from bunnings they said that it's my mistake.. in the box it says it will be fully charge in 1 hour. How can any company get awa...Read more
y with producing such a useless garden tool and making so many misleading claims on its packaging? Absolutely the most ridiculous and crappy product I have ever purchased. I will never ever buy RYOBI in my life... and specially I thought Bunnings sales people will give genuine advice which I have not received. Everyone should write this to ACCC with the photo of the packaging how Australian consumers were misled. Nothing - Battery usage is only limited for 15minutes. an absolute waste of money ($189) and time. Only 15 minute limit on battery usage before it needs recharging. only 40m of cutting...Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
