It cooks, but has been disappointing.
CONS: Like other reviewers have posted, I need to leave the oven door ajar for a few minutes after lighting otherwise the flame goes out. This is an inconvenience in our small kitchen and not great with children around.
I was surprised to find just one oven rack inside when there are 4 rack guides. I did contact smeg after our installation and when advised of the cost of 'extra' racks I nearly fell over. There was no offer of a freebie and no reply to my second e/mail when I asked for one. Disappointing - as this prevents you from utilising th...Read more
e space to cook multiple items at once. Each time we go to the local junk yard I look for a rack to fit as I'm not paying almost $100 for an extra one for an oven that was not cheap to start with. Ours has been in less than 2 years and we have had our burner covers start to rust on the underside. The wok cover very badly. Generally they are quite clean under there so I'm convinced it's not from contact with food. We are currently in the process of trying to have them replaced through the Good Guys program before the warranty runs out, and so far it has taken three months, with Smeg today questioning how I clean them and insinuating that it hasn't happened to any other appliances so it must be something I'm doing. We wipe the cooktop over with a damp dishcloth, and same with the top of the burners. After reading the manual I see I am doing nothing wrong, and certainly not using any harsh chemicals, so will be very interested to see what their response is, considering the very old chef model we replaced was used by us for years with no rusting... I do not like the timer - it is very quiet and in a busy house easy not to hear when it goes off. I have started using a small electronic timer on our fridge instead. The interior is narrower than our old 700mm oven and I can't fit my favorite baking tray in there :-( PROS: It is a clean and neat appliance and fitted in our space. Easy to wipe over and keep clean. Robust pan supports and good oven light. VERDICT: The appliance is OK but I suspect there has been some cost cutting with the rack supply and potentially the quality of the burner covers. I await a reply regarding replacement of our burner covers and this will really colour my view on Smeg and their appliances as it is our first Smeg appliance.

OK, not a perfect experience
This is my fourth Smeg upright stove within ten years (I move and renovate a lot). This is the second gas/gas version I've had although the first 700mm wide size. As per the others I'm happy overall with these appliances. They look fabulous, I particularly love the knobs, and they are generally well featured for the price. This 700mm wide model was no exception. I'll probably buy another in the future.
As per other reviews the oven isn't much wider than a 600mm wide version. Really just think of it as having the benefit of a fifth burn...Read more
er on the cooktop and you will not be disappointed. Mine also requires the oven door to be left ajar for a few minutes after igniting the oven to ensure the flame doesn't extinguish itself. This is fine once you are used to it, but was a surprise to start with. Likewise the timer which I found out from Smeg requires it to be 'wound up' before setting it ... otherwise mine wouldn't actually progress (and the timer is vague in its settings). My oven only came with one oven shelf, which seems utterly miserable given the point of fan forced ovens is that you can cook multiple items on different levels. More annoying, and costly, was the lack of supply of a gas regulator even though the installation instructions say this is included. I wish my retailer, Spartan Electrical, had advised me of this when I ordered it. As it was it was my gas plumber who discovered there was no regulator which meant additional charge for the regulator plus his time in driving to acquire one on the day. An email to Smeg and Spartan Electrical has only had them blaming each other for this and I'm still out of pocket months later.

All gas but electric grill
Oven only 4cm bigger than my old 600. 5 rings and space to rest pots/ dishes from oven is excellent. Love the combination of gas oven with the electric grill to brown up Roasts or get good crackling but you can only do this for an hour. Agree with other review about the lighting of the rings and stove. Simple with only 4 options for the oven and high or low for gas rings. Plastic legs disappointing and I don't feel they are as stable as metal.
Well made and designed
Plastic legs and smaller oven than expected.

why the light indicating that the oven reach preset temperature does not work with the gas burner and only with the grill?

Steve C.Smeg
Dear Paul, The light is for the grill not the oven, the oven does not have a indicator light it reaches temperature in about 15 minutes. If you have any problems please feel free to contact us at [email protected].

What is the internal width in mm of the C7GVXA8 oven? Ross Williams - email: [email removed]
1 answer
I measure 460mm (46cm) at the narrowest point near the front. The wall lining actually bulges out a bit here ant takes up a few mm of space more than the rest of the internal width. I'm not sure what the book states. Cheers
