We are very happy with the vehicle, no longer any agent in Kalgoorlie/Boulder, we use Panuccio Autos in Bunbury. They specialise in Ssangyong service and repairs, are very help full and friendly. No problems apart from the motor racing. Have had it checked out, nothing on the computer. May try a transmission cooler.
I have a 2x4 musso auto 2005, 68000kms, very happy, no complaints, towing 1700kg poptop. Would buy another, when this one wears out.
Only when towing van, motor will race from 2500rmp to 3500rmp for a short time then drop back, does not appear to drop a gear.(even in Power Mode) Any ideas?

Good car, would be happy to have another but am concerned about the poor resale value. Best to keep it me thinks. Would be interested to hear from anyone that has done 150 plus klms to hear their experiences.
affordable, economical and has enough power to do the job. I tow a large boat beautifully along the highway and with only minimum loss of power up hills. Heaps of leg room in back which is one reason I bought it. Have a good dealer in Canberra so any small probs have been rectified. Biggest prob after 62,000kms has been to replace link in throttle cable and a component in drivers side electric window.
so far so good. sounds like some people have got lemons and thats unfortunate because this is really a great vehicle.

Good reliable vehicle.
Bought a 2004 Musso Sports second hand from Ssangyong dealer. Have had good use of the vehicle, few problems, no more than any other vehicle I have had. Drives well can carry a reasonable load, 300Kg, and handles well with the load. Comfortable to drive on long trips. Changed the radio because it didn't take CD's, and had a new windscreen because of leak. The headrests are too big in the rear compartment, had to remove the left one for reversing, blocked view.
When anything goes wrong with the electric windows or door locks very expensive to g...Read more

Getting it in to 4 wheel drive is a lot easier than others I tested prior to purchase. The seat height is excellent for those who have knee problems and/or a below knee prosthetic. Plenty of storage area behind the back seat and a good sized glove compartment. The air conditioner freezes me and the heater cooks me, using either doesn't seem to affect fuel economy greatly.
I have a 2006 Dual Cab Sports and would prefer Ssangyong went back to these instead of the ugly and less impressive Actyon.
Very economical, comfortable and spacious. Doe...Read more

overall the musso is a good 4wd with a few problems that could quite easily be fixed if the service people got their act together
I own the musso sports ute. It's a good 4wd for the price. On the sand it will go anywhere, in the bush you have to be more careful because of the height, but a bigger set of springs & tyres help
just a couple of things, the glow plugs don't come on before you start the motor 2/ sometimes the engine will not shut down straight away. The last thing is the front hubs will not engage. The dealer in brisbane wants $125 per hour just to look at it before he lifts a spanner. So if anyone knows how to fix the problem with the hubs please let me know

up to the diff problem was very happy. could put up with minor issues as it is a great vehicle to cruise in
comfortable cruising vehicle with good fuel economy.
labours a bit towing a small boat up long hills on the highway but ok when the turbo clicks in. as with some other reviewers above I am wary about leaving keys in the ignition with the window up. my greatest concern is a recent problem with the rear differential. after 80000 kilometres the diff is noisy and apparently there is a problem with the pinion bearing. ssangyong's response...Read more

I find it very simmular to a pathfinder i used to own, great to drive and certainly alot cheaper to run, mine is white and has very dark tinted windows and s/steel roll bar, it sure gets a lot of looks when its out on the road, very smart
I have had my Musso sports now for three weeks, and have done 2500km, so far it has been great, no problems, and with 8.3lt per hundred km it makes it very cheap to run,
There is a lack of power down low but i am getting used to it, you just have to ajust your driving style a bit, i will look at fitting some hiclones later, and maybe exhurst mods to

The vehicle exceeds my expectations as I was told by other dealerships not to even look at one let alone purchase one. My how wrong they are; maybe they know how good they really are. I would have no hesitation in recomending the Musso.
being a former owner of mercedes benz cars I may be a little biased. I find that the vehicleis very comfortable to ride in, we don't hesitate to travel up to six hours at a time. The leg room in the back is very good. It has excellent economy, and good road holding ability when you compare the Musso to other ATVs.
Strangely enough the clock seems to decide when it is time to change. The dust seal around the tailgate is non existant.

Just fitted a 2 1/2 exhaust system and full flow muffler and replumbed the turbo with steel pipes instead of rubber has made a huge differance to the lower rev range starts to realy pull at about 1400rpm now

As good an all round working 4wd drive vehicle as I have ever driven.
Great car to drive.
You won't get better for the money, or a lot more money.
Been driving 4WD since the seventies. Finally found one that does what I need.
Very comfortable and easy to drive around town and on the highway. My wife finds it easier to drive than her Peugeot 206.
Tows a trailer well on and off road.
Can get to anywhere I'm likely to want to go and can get there easily.
Rear seating genuine adult size seats, hard to find in a 4wd ute.
All that for around $30K.
Need to get used to the low end lack of power (but theres no shortage of power in low range for the 4wdriver)

Great car, great economy, great to drive,i am soon to buy another one for my other business.
First time ute, former Pajero driver, diesel power plenty and at 16000kms in few months and is improving all the time economy as well, the car is very stable in wet and wind, smooth drive very quiet, good in 4 wd.Comfortable drive on long drives leg room in rear great, and good seating posi, tray is good for chuck it in the back stuff,
minor set back is that in 4x4 drags 2 wheels on tight bends if used on road, sang yong offer no solution apart from to say that its normal. (my pajero didnt do this) does anyone elses 4x4 do it.Thats the only bad thing clock is ok no other dramas

I Love my Musso Sports. I have had it for 12 months and done 35,000klms. I have towed two horses many times and it does it with ease. I bought the vehicle from Essendon but have since had great dealings with Kilmore Ssangyong, they have been so helpful.

Musso wagon Oct 96 build
Purchased 2nd hand .Oct 2005 with 180,000k's .Went looking specifically for an auto, wagon, turbo diesel to tow our van. Vehicle was not as described(no abs,sun roof, cruise, cd, or EFI!!!) so the initial asking price of 16K dropped by 4K . Good trip home to Newcastle from Sydney Then quickly following a trip to Bris, & then a week later to Melb with traileto buy a antique m/cycle. Loosing coolant, log book faithfully filled out for services BUT not in a separate section for coolant & brake fluid changes. so blown head gasket $1100 to repair.Oil ...Read more

Very nice. Nice to drive, quiet and very comfortable. I pull a work trailer 6 days a week and have an 18 foot caravan for one weekend a month, pulls both with confidence. Had an exhaust mod done and change it to a 3 inch sports system, gives it some more grunt. I would like some help from Rod Lovel and/or Robert Mcgill who have both left reviews. I would like to make the central locking remote, so I dont have to use the key. How can I do this? One of you, (Rod I think) said he has done this, how did you do it?? n I email you direct about this, or ring you? The room in the back seat for the kids. The basic standard features are better than what you get on any other vehicle. Although the "standards" level is good, it includes electric windows and mirrors, but a cassette player!! A CD as standard would make more sense.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Should mantain the outside looking and install a TV / DVD screen in the pannel and keep the metalic green color.
Is a very smooth car. Confortable, good space at the back seat. The engine is Mercedez (simple and powerfull).
The new model (action) does not have the same attraction as the 2004. The radical change in its apperance made Musso loose.

Made some changes and additions to the vehicle to suite my need. This include (a) Fitting longer coil springs at back to stop sagging when carrying a load. In addition I turned up the front tortion bars, if too high one gets a very uncomfortable ride. Had to lower it. Stands a bit nose down, but comfortable and balance nicely when towing or load on back. (b) Fitted after market shocks. Did not make much difference on ride comfort though scored more wheel travel as they are longer. (c) Fitted an ARB Air locker in the back. Had some difficul...Read more
ties as specs on diff changed from previous model and the locker did not. The guys did a great job and it makes a uge difference as the traction control requires a too high speed over rocky terrain and does not work if one wheel in the air. (d) Made a protection bar below the back to protect rear, not tested yet. With these changes I am very much satisfied with the vehicle as a package for what you pay. Will definietly get another one after this one, hopefully they will bring it out soon with the 270XDI machine in the near future. Next plans are to gain some more power. Will look at exhaust system as start. Need to know if the guys also changed the branch or just made the section after the branch larger? Bought my Musso (3rd one) in May 2005 in Pretoria, RSA. Done 12000km which included highway, clogging through traffic in morning/afternoon and some off-roading. Very impressed with smooth comfortable ride. Fuel consumption good. Ride comfort good. Off-roading excellent when compared to other open differential 4x4's. If you do not have one get one... The body panels are very soft and dent easily. Still need to find ways of protecting load body on top. The clock is a disaster. Had it replaced under warranty. Still not working. I tried tightening the electric plug at back and seemed to have helped (for a while). The radio can GO! Off-Roading the departure angle (load body over-hang)is non-existent and one needs to continuously take care, got some "brandy" marks on the sides.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Overall it appears to be good value for money in the 4x4 class.I have spoken to a fellow with a Rexton who previously owned a Musso for 8 years He mentioned also the service was terrible and he used to take the Musso to a Merc Dealership as they were the only ones with a clue. We have some concerns with the resale value. Have searched dealers and web prices very low for second hand.
We bought sports approx 10months ago done 20000ks tight at first however getting better like the way it drives and rides
Service and parts are a problem my wife had a rear end accident and the car was off the road waiting for parts insurance suggested Ssangyong should have replaced with new one so I called and they did not want to know. My problem.

The more I drive my new 'Moose'(only 500 klms) the more I like it. I was a bit harsh in my assesment (3) first review and then by mistake gave a 2 instead of a (4) in my last comment. I was trying to get an average of 3.5. Thanks to input from Bill I can give it a 5 (in anticipation) this time around.
For Bill Pritchard. Thanks Mate. I'll look into your mods immediately. Things are going from good to great!

How easy to replace glow plugs on 2005 2.9 turbo musso sports
1 answer
Am sorry but I am not really sure I am not a mechanical professional. In addition my SsangYong Musso is only a couple of month old hens has not required any spark plugs. I did have spark plugs changed on the SsangYong Korando but I took it into the workshop as it was too complex to remove peripherals to get the spark plugs out. It was not too expensive and I think I paid about $280 all up.
Sorry I couldn't be of any further assistance.

Have a '06 Musso.
No troubles at all, ran with no sweat for 3 months with a 1.8 caravan behind it along the murray.
Comes up Mt Victoria NSW no worries, hits the top at 40kph
No trouble with the brakes, maybe a mechanic change?
