The Rexton was not our first choice when looking for a new mid-sized 4WD, however the Sorento diesel release was delayed. The Rexton is a curious mix of quality components (engine and gearbox) and a cheap, dark and tacky interior. The fake carbon fibre on the steering wheel is particularly annoying, as it extends to where one grips the wheel.
We have had few problems with our car, the notable ones being wheel alignment way out of spec from delivery, and a split windscreen washer bottle (both fixed under warranty).
The economy has been su...
Read moreperb, bettering a manual Hilux ute I also drive. The 7 seater arrangement is simply awful. It takes up a swag of room in the back (and the Rexton isn't exactly huge in the rear compartment anyway). We've removed the seats, but are now left with an uneven floor and no tie-down points. We didn't want or need 7 seats, but the 5-seater has been dropped. Anyone looking for a reasonably-priced 7-seater would be better off elsewhere anyway as the rearmost Rexton seats are only suitable for legless dwarfs. The lack of a trip computer in a car of this price is unforgivable, since it would add little to the cost of the car given that the menu is in place (driving only the clock). I have an aftermarket code reader/trip computer, but it won't operate on the OBDII protocol Ssangyong uses.- 38 reviews

The Engine is strong, powerful, and excellent for all kinds of weather through the pelting down of rain to the dry desert sand. Excellent vehicle if you are looking for a 4 wheel drive.
This is and extremely excellent car, it is built to full capacity to do all kinds of things like off road use and gives you one of the best experiences you could get. The quality and design is done so well that I would never want to sell it, no matter what the price. The interior is spacious and comfortable giving you a variety of components inside.
The fact that I paid so much for a service is a turnoff. $333.00 in Parts $222.55 for oil. Then on top of that Labour. I think next time I will go back to Toyota and save money
My Rexton has done 60,000 kms of service in just 2 years. Great wagon for both on and off road conditions
The fact diesel is so expensive in Australia detracts from its economy. And I have just had a 60,000 km service done. I don't know if all dealers charge the same but in Blackforest SA I paid a small fortune. I brought a Ssangyong not a Mercedes.
I had my Rex written off by the insurance company recently because the cost of the replacement engine from Ssangyong was $54000! The water that destroyed my vehicle wasn't even above the sidesteps but the wake of a truck coming in the opposite direction caused the damage! BE AWARE!!!
WAS a nice car to drive.
Be careful - very careful! The air intake for this car is just above the bumper at the front of the vehicle - not good for going through water!

Still very satisfied inspite of minor niggles as mention. Eventually got the Nudge bar and tow bar fitted this week, looks great.
To all of those who have Toyota and Nissan on their brains ( due to motoring mag indoctrination/brainwashing!) put your prejudice aside and take a Rexton for a drive, you surley will "smile"
No done 8000Kms, The vehicle is getting better all the time, In fact I got back into my Volvo S70 for a day and could not wait to back into the Rexton.
Still waiting for a rear bumper to be replaced, now over 5 weeks.
cannot get aftermarket headlamp and bonnet protectors, even though you can get them for the Kyron. Hopefully these will eventually come on to the market.
This car is impressive if you consider that it did not cost $70K to $100k. The Rexton is unbeatable value,I have driven a lot of luxury AWD's {on the road}just to compare my Rexton and yes there are much better cars out there but I do not want spend $120K on a car. As far as re-sale goes, its not my fault Rapson sold the vehicles to cheap and I will not sell/trade mine unless I get a good price on my next Rexton TD6. The Rexton will have no worth to me after 5 years so my son will have a great first car. Yes we are all very happy so far.

Vehicle was purchased after six years of Subaru Forester ownership - a v good vehicle but had become too small for a growing family. The Rexton is slowly gaining in popularity - ours is another West Aust registration (Wheels Magazine have just quoted Aust stats for '05 as a 242% sales increase led by the Rexton). After a month of ownership we are very pleased and our friends/colleagues are surprised by the package (they have Territories/Kluger) & say they wished they had given this consideration.
Have not yet calculated fuel consumption - s...
Read moretill running in but expect around 11/12 in the city. Looking forward to trying out low range next weekend down South. Now where do I fit an onboard air compressor?! Limited version : Excellent quality at the price point. Interior : Fit & finish better than local Aust Ford Territory. Good firm seats - kids like the 7 seat option & rear a/c outlet. Exterior : finish excellent.Engine/drivetrain : very good - 5 spd auto is seamless in its changes and manual operation much better & intuitive with side to side activation than moving lever across with up/down or plus/minus selection. Suspension : firm with a little 'pitching' normal with ladder frame vehicles - our tyre pressures kept at 36psi. Not a lot : Limited version should have a trip computer, reversing sensors/camera and six changer CD system as standard. Rear dust spoiler design a bit fussy and probably the only item I feel indicates the country of origin. With seven seat option and in stowed position, there should be some sort of barrier to prevent items from sliding over the edge onto the floor (I am going to have to cook up something). Front drink holders are quite small.- BadgeLimited

Overall 4WD characteristics are aplenty, such as an elevated driving position, giving a commanding view of the road, bulbous tyres that cope well with urban kerbs, and low-range gears selected by pushing a button on the dash, as is a locking 4X4 differential.
The interior is quite an upmarket affair, with lavish use of woodgrain trim that looks great and complementing with the interior. The plush leather, handy controls and powered seats look good and work well, so the practicality is appreciated here. The models have dual airbags with pre-t...

The SE and SX models get deluxe leather seating. Rear-seat passengers receive adequate legroom, and the middle seating position has an fold down arm rest with cup holders. The luggage compartment has a third row of two seats that folds flat on top of the floor giving ample luggage space but not exceptional. The Rexton Xdi could represent reasonably good value with it's strong diesel engine that most rivals can't match for the price. But it's easy to think of many more refined large wagons for about the same price range, so the Rexton has its work cut out for it in a competitive market too. The 2.7-litre turbo-diesel features the latest common-rail technology and therefore manages the fairly impressive outputs of 121kW of power and 340Nm of torque, all delivered low in the rev range as befitting the Rexton's hefty two-tonne weight and promise of off-road ability. On road, it equates to better-than-reasonable performance, albeit without trying to hide the turbo diesel's clattering, noisy nature. There's an abundance of low-down pulling power, following a hesitation as the turbo spins up to its optimum speed, so there's no need to rev the engine across its limited range. Moving the gearstick left or right produces manual changes, Mercedes-style, which might be handy for towing or off-roading.Purchased in for $100,000.

I did not pay A$90k to A$140k or better I would rather buy Real Estate {appreciating asset}. Paying A$45k being suprised at the robust handling, hauling and good fuel economy. Yes I'am happy But ask me at 100k!
This car is loungeroom like nice and quiet good sound system when you choose. A No rush drive, but if you need to feed a little speed to your ride push your foot down and the TURBO TURBO's just the right amount of notes, if its not buy a Turbo XR6! Value for money vehicle with great amount of luxuries. Price tag puts it well ahead of the competition in 4WD turbo diesel with luxury extras. It doesn't need a host of accessories because almost everything comes standard. Would like to see better money spent on better marketing and better information supplied in the owners manual (like it being accurate and up to date).

Very happy so far,its a nice ride that does turn heads, unfortunately blokes over 25! Rexton Beige Craig is vehicle that I use as a ute cross bakers van and has been very good so far but ask me at 50,000ks.
Rexton Craig has exeeded my expectations ! This vehicle when pushed on the sealed road does it very well, on a recent trip to Perth I had to take advantage of the passing lane on the SW hwy a large B train pulled across 3 to 4 lanes in front of us so I had to go onto the gravel hard shoulder and pass this #@$%^& on the left the only noticeab...

If the second row centre seat belt were made to full lap sash and head rest were incorperated into the third row seat, With Wheels that stand out then it would be a full package to be reckoned with after all we are talking $50,000 plus thousand, If the back up service is there as well as parts on demand then this car will make a name for it's self.
very stylish much like the M class Mercedes, very quiet no motor noise. Handles very much like my Subura WRX.

I have recently taken delivery of a Rexton 270CDi Limited. I was swayed towards it by the impressive list of standard features and the extremely competitive price. After several test drives I was sold on the car and ordered one in black with a sunroof. Long term I hope that the vehicle is properly marketed and continues to grow in popularity as this will keep its value up. It is a great vehicle and you get a lot of car for the money.

In the 10 days that we have owned the Rexton I have had people stop and ask me what it is and what I thought of it. Other $50,000 plus 4wd owners stare as we drive around and often wind down their windows to enquire as to the performance. Overall, I am happy with our money spent. For the same price the Pajero will be a base model - the Nissan (forget it) and anything else will be an all wheel drive which just doesn't cut it when 4wding.
We picked our Rexton up in Adelaide 1 week after the test drive. The dealer has been great and couldn't d...
