Initially brought it because it had a 2000 Watt Motor in it. Worked perfectly for the first 4 months, then started leaking a brownish substance from the bottom of the blender. Took it apart to investigate and found that the bearing was full of rust and fallen apart due to the seal melting. I use the blender 2 to 3 times a day for Shakes and for the price I thought it would last for a while, at least longer than the warranty period. I refuse to pay $60+ for a new blade so its been sitting in my cupboard ever since failing. I now refuse to buy Sunbeam products. How hard is it to put in a good quality sealed bearing.
Sunbean demands a premium price for an inferior product!!!! What a piece of Junk!
I purchased the sunbeam cafe series blender on Boxing Day at the sunbeam outlet store. I am currently in the midst of cancer treatment, and thought a blender that could create nutritious easily digestible smoothies would be a good purchase with my Christmas money. Admittedly I hadn't shopped around, and was only here since I needed to exchange a gift for my son that had been purchased at the same complex. Wish I hadn't!
I mentioned to the salesperson that I would love one of the planetary bench mixers, to which he offered a 15% discount and w...
Read moreanted to give me a demo- I explained briefly that I wasn't feeling well, perhaps some other time, and a blender would be it today. my gripes are: 1. The products are all seconds and/or reworks- it would have been nice to have been told this. 2. The shelf price was more expensive than any other price I have found advertised (regular or on sale) of first quality units. Even the discounted price was $15 more expensive than D.J's regular price and $70 more expensive than myer' sale price. 3. And most importantly...a strong burning smell is emitted when it runs, and small pool of dark liquid was underneath the unit. I am not confident this will last for very long at all. In the greater scheme of things at the moment, this is not a major concern, but i would merely like to avoid others making the same mistake. If there is any positive here, it is that it had definitely made up my mind on what brand I would not buy, when the time comes to buy a bench top mixer.
I am mainly pleased with the smoothie function but often leaves a few lumps. I put almonds in first before rest of smoothie ingredients and it ground initially but unevenly as there was no way for the blades to reach them. Hummus and pesto was tricky and difficult to get out of the jug. It took longer to get out of the jug than get all the ingredients out and make. I wish I had bought the cheaper sunbeam blender that had 6 blades instead of the four this one has. I want to be able to make vegan "cheesecakes" out of cashew nuts but wasn't great for that. Overall I am disappointed and my daughter wishes we had got the nutri bullet instead. Was sucked in by the higher wattage. Love the cleaning function.
I note others comments about rusty water leaking. Here's a tip for Sunbeam: use a better seal in the blade assembly, the seals are pathetic as are the bearings. This is designed for food and liquid so design the assembly to suit. Angle grinders used in tile cutting have a labyrinth seal to exclude the abrasive dust, why not evaluate this style of seal for use in this machine?

I was getting totally confused when looking at the reviews on line for deciding which blender to get, I guess people only write a review when they are complaining hey. So I went on gut feeling as I already had a Cafe series Mixmaster as I do a lot of cooking for when I compete with my dogs at Agility trials. I know it is only very early days as I used it for the first time this morning to make my breakfast smoothie and using the same ingredients albeit adding some frozen berries it made almost 1/2 again mixture as it was frothed up so much and ...
Read morefor some reason made my protein shake even more filling, and as for the preclean function I found myself saying Wow!! out loud without realising. My only issue is that I was unable to remove the blade section completely as even though I tried to twist the bottom in the direction it said it wouldn't budge and I didn't want to force it. Now I just have to look for some more smoothie recipes. I would thoroughly recommend this blenderOnly giving one star rating because it worked fine for the first 15 months then rusty liquid started leaking and now anything you put in a jar leaks through right on a motor part. And surely warranty is only for 15 months. First it's dangerous, second I don't think it's healthy as if it's leaking it probably means rust goes into your food as well. Very very disappointed. It's not cheap appliance and you expect it to work more than one year. This time you guys produced a total rubbish. I also see that it's common problem. It means that respectable company should replace it for its customers or at least provide spare parts for free. Waste of money.
This blender was not cheap! We bought from good guys just over 12 months ago and it's been leaking rusty brown fluid out of base (and staining my bench top) for several months. We can't use it now as all liquid poured in just dribbles out of base straight away! I called service number (02 9319 4965 and travis (nice guy) told me to call 1300 881 861 - a sydney number. I have tried it 24 times now (no kidding!) either one person on job or they are so sick of complaints, the phone is left off the hook. Travis told me since it's out of warranty, ma...
Read moreybe i'll just be told tough luck! Since when does an expensive blender become a disposable item after 1 year?!?! What utter rubbish! This sounds like a really strong story for consumer affairs. I will give it until end of today to keep trying the 1300 number - then will ramp it up. Not usually fired up about such goods but this is ridiculous given it seems to be a common problem. Will also let good guys know - hope they stop stocking it, as it's a lemon. Do not buy under any circumstances!I have since been contacted by a very helpful Sunbeam representative - and they are in the process of rectifying this issue. I will report back when the story progresses. Fingers crossed this could be good news!
A further update to this post: Sunbeam DID send me a replacement blade/associated parts, which, after some deliberation about how to remove the old and install the new bits, I have put into my blender...
Read more - and it works! Hooray! I love my blender again. Looking at this new part, it appears some components have been modified from the original (which was, on removal, covered in rust - the liquid that had been seeping in). So perhaps the manufacturers have reviewed this model and made permanent changes: I really hope so, as the engine and the plastic blender itself are great. If anyone from Sunbeam reads this: thank you for sending me replacement parts. I am happily using the blender again and appreciate that you did respond. From a customer service perspective, could I suggest two things: 1. You make it easy for people to get in touch if they do have concerns and 2. When you do agree to replace a faulty part, don't let just sending the part with no accompanying note, no instruction, no nothing, infer you are doing so, under duress and only because I complained on a public forum: include a note or some instructions or just something to say 'Sorry about your bad experience, hope this helps.' It completely floors me how in Australia, corporates are so scared of being transparent and saying 'sorry'. Yet it would diffuse the situation enormously if they did.Related Articles

I got this blender just before Christmas. Mainly for making juice with kale, cucumber, apples etc.
I ran it through twice for a smoother drink. It made great smoothies for the kids too. I like the self clean and soft start feature, as it keeps the bearing dry and should prolong its life. The jug is a good size also. Mine to started to started to get the brownish liquid seeping out the bottom of the jug. Then the bearing seized altogether and stripped the plastic drive gear as well. So now it has ground to an abrupt halt. It seams mine has gone...

Very powerful, makes great smoothies, and reduces thicker items like carrots and apples to a pulp very quickly. Blends greens like kale and spinach so finely you don't know they're there. Smoothie button does all the work for you. Best part?? The self cleaning action. 1L warm water, a tiny drop of detergent, hit the button and bingo, your jug is totally clean. Comes apart easily for the items which are able to go in the dishwasher. Love it.

I went through 3 blenders in two years. Twice replaced by the local electrical retailer where I purchased it from. Then one blender was replaced by Sunbeam. Sunbeam would not replace the 4th blender because it has already been replaced. The bearings in the shaft wear out quickly and can not handle a decent smoothie cocktail.
Now days there are far more superior products on the market. Don't waste your money on Sunbeam.
It had the strongest motor on the market when I originally purchased it.
The bearings in the shaft wear out causing the liquid to leak down through the cutting shaft all over the motor.
Again, quite similiar to many reviews here I purchased this thinking it would be a cheaper alternative to a Vitamix. Next time fork out the extra for the Vitamix.
I haven't had my blender for a year yet, already starting to leak, and the screw which holds the blade in place is always coming loose. Sadly the blender has now completely stopped working! Unsure if it's the base rubber attachment which has worn out or part of the base of the jug. What a disappointment for the price & also the Sunbeam brand.
Started off well....
Expensive, Leaking,

Loved this blender but so disappointed when it stopped working two months out of warranty.
Blades just stopped working and then took of base to examine and cog feel off! Not impressed considering
how much I paid for it. Always look after my appliances so It wasn't mistreated in any way.
Rang customer service and to my surprise they where very helpful in getting me a replacement organised.
So I hope when I go to Myer tomorrow to swap it over it all goes smoothly!

I have used the PB9800 for about 6 months to make a dip that is relatively liquid - with nuts and cashews and it blends perfectly well it you get the liquid level right and then increase the speed as it thickens. But you have get it right. The maximum speed/power blends as finely as any blender I've used - I've only used Blendtec - with regular jug, Cuisinart blender, a cheap Thai-made plastic blender and previous model of this - 9500 I think.
There is some skill to using a blender correctly, unlike most people seem to think. Except for the ...
Read moremost simple of things, it is not just a matter of putting the stuff in and turning it on. It's also essential to clean the blender by removing the blade, unscrewing the base bit and thoroughly washing it out in hot water. There is also an annoying little bit just under the blades that needs to be cleaned really well - or you end up with bad smells. Best thing to do is immediately fill the blender with water after use, and blend the water for a while and even let it soak for a while to remove stuff in this sneaky little bit. Also, clean the O-ring thing regularly. I didn't notice this at first but it is important. As for leaking, I haven't had that problem, and I use the blender for 40-50 cycles a week, 1-2 minutes each time, blending at a medium to heavy load, sometimes consecutively. That's also why I gave it a good rating. For a $250 blender, if you stick with reasonably easy to blend things (eg. not nut butters or very thick dips or sauces) it will go and go. Not quite a commercial blender in this regard, but pretty close. The best Sunbeam I've used. No coincidence that the new design makes it even more like the blendtec. These guys all copy each other. :)- 3 reviews

Thought at first this product was really great, seemed to have the power we needed to make a reasonably good smoothie. After 8 months however, the thing started leaking a black sludgy liquid from the bottom and losing power. Wouldn't waste my money or time on a Sunbeam product like this again, very disappointing, given the price.
Power initially seemed impressive, large jug capacity.
Noisy, took a while to blend to a smooth consisstency and in the end, the leaking and losing power.
Did you remove the blade regularly and clean it along with the base connector screw-on bit?

1 month and so far no problems.
Used everyday and has not had or shown any problems. Works as you would expect. Used to make smoothies and salad dressings mainly. Made almond flour a few times. No problems. Powerful motor- upto 20, 000 rpm. If anything negative happens I will update this review.
I recommend this product to anyone.
powerful fast motor and good warranty.
nothing yet
It is now approx 6 months and i am still as happy as i first purchsed the blender.
Works as it should and expect :-)
I have had my blender know for a little over a year and I must say that it is performing just as well as it did when I first brought it home. The pre programme functions work extremely effectively giving excellent results every time. I would recommend this blender to anyone. This product is clearly a high performer.
Brilliant results every time. Easy to clean with the self clean function.
I was soo excited to buy this Blender as I thought it would be a great alternative to a Vitamix. But it's been a journey of frustration and disappointment. I bought it new off E-Bay and within 9 months the base started leaking. I figured that it would be easy to get a replacement since it was less than a year old but I contacted Sunbeam customer service and a very rude and impatient rep told me that only the base was on warranty and I would have to pay to replace any other part. But I don't speak "Blender" so I didn't know what part to replace,...
Read more I knew that the base was leaking, not why. They sent me some bits of rubber which I had no idea how to use and not surprisingly did not fix the problem. I went back to them and complained and got a manager to send me out a new blade. That did work to solve the problem. But guess what??? Nine months later...Voila!! We're back to a leaking base that is quickly. I soon won't be able to use the blender at all. I would not recommend this blender. I'm thinking to instead to fork out the money for a Vitamix. Blends well. Self-cleaning function. Leaking brown goo from the base after a few months.Hi Lisa, we are very sorry to hear of this issue, could you please contact our Consumer Support and ask to speak with the Team Leader.
Hi Lisa, I'd recommend calling Sunbeam. They will replace your leaking parts of your blender even if out of warranty depending on of course how old your blender is exactly.
I purchased this blender about a year ago from The Good Guys. Initially loved it, but after a few months it started leaking rusty brownish fluid. I am extremely disappointed and am worried that this liquid has been blended into our smoothies, in which case we've eaten it!!. Very unexpected from such a (usually) trusted brand.
Leaking rusty brownish fluid.
Did you remove the blade regularly and clean it along with the base connector screw-on bit?

I am very disappointed. I bought mine nearly a year ago but prior had done a lot of research trying to find a decent blender. It was going great & then it just started leaking. I have a rare neuromuscular condition so am constantly making smoothies as I can't always chew food. But it leaks a mess everywhere.
Who wants a leaking blender?
I have this blender, and it also leaks. It was great for the first few months, but now leaks rusty brownish liquid. Gross.
Did you remove the blade regularly and clean it along with the base connector screw-on bit?

I primarily blend fruit and vegetable smoothies, which include large quantities of kale, frozen berries, dates and the like. I initially purchased a Breville Kinetix BBL605, which performed no better than my previous 1990s Panasonic blender. The Kinetix was noisy and never blended my green smoothies properly, leaving chunks of leaves and dates throughout. The blade design also didn't appear to pull things towards it as clamed. Thankfully after 30 days it broke down and I exchanged it for the Sunbeam 9800, which was the same price. The differenc...
Read moree in quality was obvious as soon as I used it. It has been 3 months now and I am no less impressed, I use it twice a day at least and it has never served up anything but an awesome, creamy smoothie. It never leaves any chunks and blends everything quickly and is very quiet considering the powerful motor. I don't use the ice/smoothie/slow-start options because I prefer to use the dial, though I do you the clean button every time. The blender seems well made, and unless you are willing to spend considerably more on a Vitamix/BlendTec etc, the 9800 café series appears to be clearly the best option. Powerful, simple design and inexpensiveI have compared this to the Nutribullet that's advertised on TV. There are other Magic Bullet's too. Simply, Nutribullet has a 620 watt motor, the other's on the market are around 250 watts. The Su...
Read morenbeam Cafe Series blender is 2000. As mentioned I have compared both. Save the $310 dollars if you are thinking of buying the Nutribullet because the Sunbeam product is far more superior. A tiny bit thicker blend, but delicious and you can taste all the ingredients whereas the Nutribullet waters it down leaving no taste for your taste buds to enjoy! I have had the Sunbeam for over a year and in a family of 4, we all use it virtually daily. I have not had any problems with it, and it's easy to clean. For poor Lozzatron below, yes, you should have taken it back! I give it 4.5 stars out of 5.I bought the blender because I wanted something to make green smoothies in. It started leaking within a month (I was using it daily). Disappointingly, I didn't take it back and now more than a year has pasted and I'm stuck with a leaking blender. I'm very unhappy with the blender and I don't trust Sunbeam products anymore. The last Sunbeam product I bought before the blender broke after several month (it was a water cooler).

Bought this today and I am very happy with it. It's smoothy function is amazing as is it's self cleaning operation, it's not very loud and is very light. Also very easy to pour and store.
Definitely a must have.
Amazing for the price. I can't give this enough praise. :D
inexpensive, quiet, easy to pour, strong
I was initially very happy with blender. I use it a lot to make smoothies, sauces, mayonnaise. After several months it started to leak, green smoothie leaking through looks disgusting and has began to corrode silver finish. I would not recommend it. I am very disappointed. I don`t like the plastic jug, why don`t they offer a glass option!!

I use this blender a couple of times a day and it blends perfectly, we put seeds and kale in our smoothies and there are no chunks or gritty bits. Love the pre clean function. I make watermelon frappes with ice and it comes out beautifully. A great blender at a reasonable price. Love this blender.
Love the square shape, pours easily and cleanly.
