The Jury is Out
We have had a PB9600 for about a year, it was a gift and we probably would not have bought one if we read these reviews. It has had light work mainly blending cooked vegetables for soups. Last night the bearing failed and I phoned Sunbeam this morning. Initially they were keen for me to approach a local repairer for the Blade Assembly at my cost but when I mentioned 'fit for the purpose' I was offered a 'good will' assembly.
Thanks Jessica, appreciate it but if the product is as bad as the reviews suggest it should probably be withdrawn from sale.

Leaking everywhere
I purchased this blender thinking it would be good quality.
I used it infrequently as I am not very good at making 'smoothies'.
Well, I don't use it at all now because of a leaking blade assembly. It has proved to be a wast of $230.
I will never buy a Sunbeam product again.

Stopped working just after 12 months
Dam I was really liking this blender untill its stopped working just out of warrantee, it was great to clean and did a great job but if its not able to be repaired for free its turned out to be $ 250 for just over 12 months .
I had a old cheap blender that went for over 10 years seems like the new appliances just dont last like the old ones did, I may look into a more expensive blender with more warrantee now ?

blade assembly leaking oil
Hasn't had much use, especially when taking into account the cost, was largely happy until the blade assembly failed. After reading a few other reviews here, it's clearly a design fault. And like most people i wouldn't have my receipt handy for a warranty claim. How can i obtain a replacement part?

Leaking Oil (Faulty Blade Assy) P/N PB98002 $55
Terrible Customer Service on 1300 881 861 (Very rude man)
Our Sunbeam Blender is 18 month old and has what seems to be a common problem but Sunbeam were not interested in covering under warranty but were happy to give me a contact and part number for a replacement one at $55.
Based in this I will neve purchase another Sunbeam product again and will be posting this on FB and any other blog.
Based on all of these comments VCAT may be worth it as "not fit for purpose" as it should last longer than 18 months.

Disappointed with the product
Loved this product when I purchased it but now it leaks a brown liquid every blend. Very disappointing as now my daughters cannot/won't make smooothies until I invest in a new blender. I am reluctant as it costs me $220 from the good guys and don't really feel like spending that money again only have the same problem. Will be changing brands.

Wouldn't purchase again
Love the styling of this product, and when it works as intended it is fine but the screw at the bottom that holds the blade assembly in comes loose with about every "blend" I do. If you don't stand and watch it carefully, you'll have the contents leaking out of the bottom. The little measuring cup on my lid has also had the two notches broken off it, and its just over a year old, would have expected more from a well known name like Sunbeam. I chose that blender because of the name, it used to be synonymous for a good quality product. I rang Sun...Read more
beam before my warranty ran out and told them of the problem and the woman I spoke to said no one else had had this problem, even though I had a friend with the same blender who experienced this also. It was still in the warranty period at that stage, and was advised to return it to the store which I didn't, just thought I'd see how it went, and thought the same model would just be the same. Wishing I had now.2 comments

Another defective rotor blade
We have had trouble with a leaking rotor as well. We have hardly used it over the 2 years we have had it.. disappointing. I had the previous version and it was made to a much better quality. There is no way i could consider buying a Sunbeam blender again. The quality just isn't there.

How to FIX, FIX, FIX the flashing lights
I like endless other have had the flashing lights and the blender stops working. I realized that even if I removed the blade assembly from the clear bowl and put it on top of base unit,it still makes the lights flash. So it must be magnetic, I thought. The black pad closest to Pre Clean button tells base to allow rotation. So I put a magnet on this rubber pad (front right) on base unit and lights come on.(try both polarities). Then put the blender bowl back on and all fixed. Cheap magnet must lose it's magnetism,as a guess. Hope it works for everyone else.
Had this blender for years and really rate it highly, apart from when this happened.

fantastic blender
I just have to write a review about this blender. I have never written a review before. I have had this blender almost three years and use it every day for all sorts of smoothies ingredients like kale/pepitas/citrus fruit/oats/almonds/dried herbs/dried fruit and many other easier ingredients to blend such as soft fruits I have been blending foods for 30 years and it is by far the best blender I have used. only problem is sometimes I overload it past the 2 litre mark with some tough ingredients and it will struggle which I guess would be expecte...Read more
d but I just stop blending for a minute and try again and it still makes a very smooth smoothie. I never have the leaking problem many other people mention I may be lucky or smart I never use the pulse button on this blender or any other blender I just start it slow and just slowly increase speed pulse buttons are good on a food processor as you are mostly pulsing loose ingredients but in a blender it maybe thick/wet/heavy ingredients. Maybe more expensive blenders e.g vitamix or a optimum are built to withstand pulsing but I would never never pay 900plus dollars for a home blender maybe 500 dollars for an optimum. The sunbeam is a250 dollar blender approx. it does such an amazing job if there are no leaks and I have no problem at all. I also never use all preprogramed buttons as like the pulse button it creates huge strain on motor and gearing imagine a car going from stop to full power in an instant under heavy load. The only food that I can never blend in this blender or any other blender is dried organic Australian apricots they just bounce around unless I soak them for a few hours if anyone knows a blender that can blend them let me know. leaking due to defect rotor balde
the sunbeam cafe series PB9800 blender is leaking through the rotor blade just as all other reviewers report, and sunbeam's 'customer service' claims there is nothing wrong with it, and that i just keep buying new rotor blades (i already bought 2 new, all leaking)
its a great buy if you are looking for a blender that works for a few months. for something that lasts longer, maybe consider a vitamix instead.

Great quality, great results
I've had this blender for less than 6 months, sometimes I use it once a week sometimes four times. It's easy to clean and does wonders with nut butters and smoothies. Make sure you wind the screw-on base onto the blender tightly. The functions are great, you really get the most out of the watts and the smoothie, pre-clean and ice-crush make it so easy.

Had the leaking problem but customer care fixes immediately !!!
I purchased my Sunbeam blender (from Myer) 10th Dec 2012.About three months ago started leaking brownish liquid.
The blender has always worked well so I put up with the leak for a while but after reading all these reviews,I thought I would give Sunbeam a ring and see if they would replace the blade assembly even though it was well out of warranty.
Spoke to Jessica in customer service, explained the situation and she was aware of the problem regarding the blades. It was the bearings that was creating the leak.
She had absolutely no problem in s...Read more

great longevity from this blender
I purchased this blender in 2007 and got eight years of heavy duty daily use from it; smoothies, soups, cocktails. Very pleased with the performance. Over the last year the plastic jug began to perish and crack and recently it started to leak from the cracks. I did put it through the dishwasher quite a bit. Anyway, very pleased, I just wish the replacement jugs weren't so expensive, it was nearly as much as a replacement unit so I got a new blender. I felt bad binning the perfectly working base, the new blender jug won't get put into the dishwasher.

Loved it... until it stopped working!
I've had this blender for 2 years. I swore it whipped up the most delicious, and creamy smoothies and juices. When purchased, I was thoroughly impressed with it's performance.
After two years, I tried to make a smoothie today and was confused when the lights were flashing, and the jug was tipsy and not lining up properly with the motor. After grabbing my Cafe Series manual, I was disappointed to find that no information was included on how to fix the blender in common scenarios.
I did recognize that maybe the blade/nut/and securing bol...Read more
t were not lined up properly, after fiddling around for 10-15 minutes, I still could not figure out the problem. But, GOOD NEWS! After playing around a bit more, I realized that the nut which is secured by a screw sort of thing, wasn't tightened properly. I held the nut and screwed the thing a little bit more. Voila! Perfect. Works again. Thank goodness... I was getting 'hangry' for my smoothie! :) Would definitely recommend this blender, though. Has been a great little thing.Similar opinion? Loved this blender but now leaking oil
Bought a red blender from Myer in 2013. Loved it, was really effective for everything including ice and nuts. Started leaking oil about a year ago, rang Sunbeam thinking it was the motor but they said it was the bearing in the jug and wouldn't replace it. Have found a company who sells the bearings but cant get the blade out if the jug so no use buying the bearing if I can't replace it. Think we should all call Sunbeam and lodge an official complaint, they will have to do something if everyone complains about the product. Waste of $200 and I have always bought Sunbeam as I have found the products usually last for years. Really not impressed, must be producing them in China!

Great until the seal wore out in less than 12 months, now unusable, suggest look elsewhere.
I wish I had seen these reviews back when I picked this blender.
It seemed to be a great premium costly blender.
It worked really well, albeit very noisy.
After about 6-8 months of solid use and only hand washing. It just started to leak from the jug and left rust in the top of the motor unit.
The blender itself still works fine but the jug just keeps leaking.
We went back to myer and they just gave us a voucher for the cost.
The only option is to pick a a different blender with a decent seal or attempt to repair the leak myself.

Do the pre program function lights stay on when not in use but plugged into power outlet or can they be turned off without disconnecting power cord.

The lights will remain lit if the blender is plugged into a switched on power source to indicate that the machine has power and that blades will spin when buttons are pushed. Just as a safety precaution, to indicate that the unit is on.
