Two blade bearing failures in four months. Avoid.

published

I bought the new model PB9800 in June and within three months the blender began leaking at the blade bearing seal. And I had only used it five times! I contacted Sunbeam, who told me to return it to the store for a replacement because Sunbeam did not have any replacement blade assemblies in stock. The replacement had now developed exactly the same problem. I'll ask for a refund this time. It's a pity, because the blender does a great job. And I haven't even been using it for anything tough like crushing ice (which apparently it's designed to cope with).
It's powerful.
The blender bearing seal has failed twice in four months.

Great product!

published

I'm absolutely loving this blender. I'm using it primarily for green smoothies which are a real test of power. This is a really great alternative to the very expensive Vitamix and powers through a bunch of that notoriously hard to blend kale! The manual speed dial allows you to do an initial slow blend to make sure everything is chopped then crank it to really get it smooth. It also has a preclean setting which makes cleaning up an absolute breeze as it cleans all the hard to reach places around the blade. Highly recommended!
Power, speed, can handle green smoothies
Blade housing is not dishwasher proof so needs dismantling before you can put it in.

We paid $238 for a blender that makes more noise than an angle grinder cutting through cement and a jug that will crack at the base after only a few uses. This jug problem is the most annoying as Sunbeam refuse to admit there is a problem and will make you jump through substantial hoops to get it fixed. Don't buy one is the answer. Sunbeam make the clain that the polycarbonate jug is stronger than glass but we are now on our second jug and they are looking to blame us for its demise. we have never used hot liquid in it nor have we dropped it. Shonky customer service.
Nothing at all
Noisy as hell and the jug will crack.

Useless if you need to replace the jug every 3 months as is my experience. I don't mind if Sunbeam supply a new jug regularly. They should fix the bearing problem.
Its power and efficiency.
Just as the reviewer loges2798 pointed out, the just has cracked - the part that holds the blade assembly. The noise, is, I think due to faulty bearings in the blade assembly. I think the jug bearings are designed for the less powerful models (e.g. 1,200) and cannot stand up to the higher speeds.

Now that I've read comments by other reviewers with similar problems,
I have to assume the blade assembly is just poorly designed for this model.
Sunbeam really need to fix the bearing problem before selling any more.
large jug
I dislike the noise it makes - turns out to be a grinding noise in the bearing of the blade assembly. I bought a replacement blade assembly assuming that it was a one off problem, but the replacement blade is now grinding as well.

It does not last long. Some leaking for now using nearly one year. It may because I used it everyday.

Powerful but parts let me down

published

I loved the power of this blender, great with ice. BUT I bought this product because of the warranty, it was expensive, hence I thought it would last longer than other blenders. The 3 year warranty was only for the motor not blade assembly which failed at about 1 year, very dissapointing. I have just bought another blade assembly so will see how long that lasts! The handle design is also poor with a small hole that lets water in when you wash it and won't come out.
Good power
Blade assembly, noisy

will never buy sunbeam again

BAD PRODUCT (Only lasted 100 - 200 smoothies.) The bearing in the cutter blade unit is not able to be replaced easily. It requires the purchase of a new cutter blade unit which is EXPENSIVE. This is a BAD PRODUCT.

Do the pre program function lights stay on when not in use but plugged into power outlet or can they be turned off without disconnecting power cord.

The lights will remain lit if the blender is plugged into a switched on power source to indicate that the machine has power and that blades will spin when buttons are pushed. Just as a safety precaution, to indicate that the unit is on.
