We love pies!
This is a great product, it does help making pies become quite easy and cooks very well. We love versatile it is with the different amount of fillings you can add, the choices and combinations are endless. The only thing I have noticed is it nearly cooks too quickly. You have to watch it, around 8-10 mins seems to work well when the book says 12-15 mins. By that time the pastry is well overcooked.
Easy of use, end result

Pastry base too large
The pies this maker produces are great, but it has one major flaw. I use frozen shortcrust pastry for the bases. However, the base cutter is so large that I can only cut one base per square of frozen pastry sheet. Considering this pie maker makes 4 pies at a time, this means I need to use four sheets of pastry for four pies. This just isn't cost effective. Apart from this, the pies taste great!
Makes crispy yummy pies
Size of pastry base means only one base can be cut per sheet of frozen pastry

I couldn't agree more. Our old sunbeam pie maker was dying so we just went and bought a new one. And seeing the size of the cutter, we will make one pie base per sheet! A big difference after getting ... Read more
four pie bases from a sheet. Here's a good example of when bigger is not better.
So true. After getting my replacement I was disapointed at the size increase too. You can join the pastry but more fiddly. The older, smaller design was much better

The top crust doesn't brown
The top crust didn't brown at all...just like raw dough. Used the pre-packaged defrosted pie crust and filled with pie filling (1/2 cup per instructions). The bottom crust and edges of the top crust were very brown after baking 10 minutes. However, the tops were still almost raw, translucent, with bubbling filling bursting out of the crust. Maybe it's just me...anything baked seems to come out wrong. In fact, you should use me as a tester because if I get great results, then it's fool-proof. I will try again making some savory pies but it wold be very helpful to first find out what I did wrong!
Easy to use

Perfect until it broke after about 4 uses 6months after warranty period
It was a great product until it broke after about 4 uses. We had our pie mixture all made ready to go the other night for dinner and all the pastry cut out ready to go also. Plugged it in and nothing no lights... Broken. Back to good old fashioned baking pies in the oven. I rang sunbeam and nothing they can do as it is outside warranty period (by 6months) apparently too expensive to fix so they recommended buying another one. - Don't think so if it is going to break again!!
Easy to make and clean and quick!!
Bad warranty service. Need 2 year warranty at least!

Excellent
The pie maker is better than I expected. It is very easy to use and makes a nice crispy brown pie in 6 minutes. They then freeze well and are great for lunches. You can make fillings from scratch or use leftovers, or tinned baked beans etc. It comes with a good recipe book which has lots of good ideas. It also makes quiches and open topped pies but I haven't tried these yet. A real time saver having the 4 dish pie maker, the pastry sheets make 4 tops or bottoms per sheet so its all very economical too.
Easy to use, makes great pies

I really like this product and it gets regular use within my kitchen. It heats up quickly and holds the temperature well meaning perfect pies everytime. This product is perfect for turning leftovers into quick and easy meals and great for when guests drop by. This product is only limited by your imagination.
I was introduced to this a few months ago by a friend who has an addiction to making pies and I can happily say that I wasnt dissappointed. The deep dish makes nice sized pies and the included recipe book gives lots of inspiration for quick and cheap meals.
Making pies is addictive .......

I love my Sunbeam Pie magic 4 Up. I was unexpectedly delighted with this present.
This product is a little ripper! [censored word removed] proof, and the pies are perfectly cooked. The included pastry cutter makes it so easy to make perfect pie bowls using frozen pastry sheets. Just turn the pie maker on, cut out pastry with the cutters and press the pre-cut edges together to make a perfect pie bowl. By the time you've made the bowls, the unit is hot and ready and you just pop in the pastry bowl, add your fillings, top with the perfect pre-cut pastry lid and close the unit. 5 minutes or so later, presto - perfectly cooked pas...Read more
try and hot fillings! While the pies cook cook, toss together a salad and you have dinner on the table in under 15 minutes. This is so easy to use and is forgiving with cooking times. I have left pies in the unit for double the recommended time and they were still fantastic. I have found it brilliant for stretching leftovers so there is enough for a family meal - we have made delicious Mexican taco pies, chicken casserole pies, lamb stew pies etc. The cooked pies also freeze beautifully. My kids love a cold egg and bacon pie in their lunchbox occasionally and my favourite is curried scallop pies. Cleaning couldn't be easier - just wipe a damp cloth over the non-stick plates while it is still warm. I overfilled the pies once and even the overflowed filling wiped straight off. This was a Christmas present I didn't think I wanted and took 3 months to open it and try it. Wish I'd opened it Christmas Day ... it would have been such a great way to use up the turkey and ham. Not another useless appliance taking up space in your kitchen - this is great! {censored word removed] proof, makes perfectly cooked pies, very quick and very easy to cleanSimilar opinion? Love it! Perfect pies every time
I love my Sunbeam Pie Magic! I use it regularly, especially when I have left over curries and casseroles. It cooks the pies perfectly - pastry is always crispy and the fillings are always hot. Another huge bonus is that the pies never stick to the surface and it's extremely easy to clean. The pastry cutter template is great as it cuts the pastry casing with slits at the top which makes it fit into the pie maker easily.
The recipes that come with the Pie Magic are fantastic and inspiring. I made the blueberry cheesecakes and they were quick ...Read more
and easy to make and absolutely delicious. The pies are so beautiful that we run the risk of over-indulging and gaining weight, so I use the Pampas 25% reduced fat frozen pastry - it always turns out perfectly and is a little easier on the hips. I use it when I have a house full of guests. After tasting the delicious pies a couple of my friends have rushed out and purchased the Pie Magic for themselves. I also purchased the Breville Party Pie Creations which makes 8 mini pies and unfortunately I found this pie maker way too fiddly and difficult to clean compared to the Sunbeam Pie Magic 4. Makes perfect pies & desserts every time!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

I love making pies with this machine
I bought my partner the Pie Magic in September 2011, and I think I love it even more than he does! One of my friends bought one after I raved about how good it is!
It's easy to use, non stick, and makes the pastry deliciously crisp in just 10 minutes or so.
We used the machine so many times that it actually broke! Thankfully though there's a 12 month warranty, so we're back to making pies!
It's a great way to use up leftover bolognese, curries, etc.
One thing to note is that the pie maker will not heat up the contents of the pie, so make sure that the meat/veggies are warm before you put them in the pie.

Fantastic cooking appliance for your home
One of the best things I've ever owned! Cooks pies quickly, effortlessly and the range of filling ideas are practically endless. I've even made cheesecakes. The whole family loves them. I've used left over casserole or mince savoury stew and used that as the filling, topped with mashed potato and grated cheese.
Very easy to clean with the non stick surface.
Pastry cutters and a great recipe book for pie ideas are also included with the pie maker.
Quick cooking, heaps of new filling ideas, and easy to clean

Pie-RRIFIC
What's there to say, why buy a frozen pack of pies from the supermarket ever again. The sunbeam pie maker is the perfect appliance to test your pie making skills.... What skills? You dont need any. Fancy a steak and kidney, chucky steak or a chicken and mushroom, fill the pastry and let the pie maker do the rest.
Quickly heats up and cooks just as fast. Pastry always comes out crispy.
Like any appliance the clean up afterwards.

This cerainly beats cooking pies in the oven!
This is an excellent product - it makes pie making a breeze and so quick. The resulting pies are excellent. There is of course the extra time it takes in the kitchen as now eveyone wants pies all the time. lol.
The only gripe I have about the product is that I'd prefer the pies to be square rather than round, that would mean far less pastry wastage. Despite at least one other reviewer saying the pastry wastage was minimal I do not think it is really. I estimate it is about 1/5 of each sheet of bought ready-rolled pastry, and if you make quite ...Read more

Just Magic!
This pie maker is the 'best thing since sliced bread' as the saying goes! For my first go, I used puff pastry and made rhubarb and apple pies, and they turned out perfectly, with a beautiful rounded top. Hubby and I ogled them for ages admiring them! lol Love the recipe book, there are so many great ideas, the mind boggles.
So very easy to make pies and from go to whoa, cooking-wise, they take only 5 minutes. Quick to heat up in only 5 minutes and also very easy to clean.

Just a Great Product
Gift from friends approx 3 months ago as they had one and were rapt with it. We use it weekly. Sometimes we make specific pies, be it sweet or savoury, or we use up any leftovers we may have. We did find that with our one, we only had to bake for 5-6 minutes rather than the advised 7-8. We use pre-made pastry and its just fine. "Hint" If your going to freeze and reheat later, use shortcrust for the base. Can't believe we went so long without one.
Easy to use, no more throwing out leftovers. saves a few bucks.

Fantastic Home-made Pies
Have owned this pie maker for about a year and use it all the time. Found it to be sturdy and reliable. Love that it makes 4 pies at once - good size pies. Use up all your leftovers by turning them into a pie. Make a bulk batch, wrap them up and freeze them then when you want a pie, defrost or heat in microwave for a minute and place back in pie maker to crisp up again. Recipe book that comes with it is great, lots of ideas like quiches and cheesecakes which all come out fantastic. So easy to use and easy to clean, Can't live without this one!!
Easy to clean, non stick, easy to use, good size pies and comes with recipe book.

I submitted this same question last weekend but have not received a reply.
My pie maker was purchased on 5/1/18. It has been used four times but I still cannot get the tops to cook. The pastry is soggy. Have been sticking to the instructions ie half cup of filling.

I find it works best if you use shortcrust pastry on the bottom and puff pastry on the top. If you are doing that already maybe its the brand of pastry that you are using (unless you are making your own).
I have always used the same pastry and the first few times I used it, it worked fine, the last couple of times it hasn't. so not sure what can be wrong have used it about 6 times and last 3 times have failed.

Isn't it obvious?
You can join the shortcrust pastry offcuts together, so you are able to get 2 bases per sheet. Just overlap them slightly, and press flat with your fingers.
