Pie Magic PM4800 (Traditional Size 4 Up)

I submitted this same question last weekend but have not received a reply.
My pie maker was purchased on 5/1/18. It has been used four times but I still cannot get the tops to cook. The pastry is soggy. Have been sticking to the instructions ie half cup of filling.

I find it works best if you use shortcrust pastry on the bottom and puff pastry on the top. If you are doing that already maybe its the brand of pastry that you are using (unless you are making your own).

I have always used the same pastry and the first few times I used it, it worked fine, the last couple of times it hasn't. so not sure what can be wrong have used it about 6 times and last 3 times have failed.

Hi
Do you wait till the ready light is on before you start assembling pies
Or start when warm up light is on
My first attempt found the pastry (store bought) a bit tough and crisp not puffed
Thanks. Liz

You should wait till the ready light is on. Best pastry to use is a short crust for the bottom and a puff pastry for the top.

I have the 4 Up pie maker. Can I use the machine and make only 2 x pies or does it have to be 4? Do not wish to damage the machine. Many thanks,

Hello Daisym123,
Yes, you can make just two pies. You don't need to use all four.

Pie Magic PM4800 (Traditional Size 4 Up)

what is the diameter of the top of the pie

120 mm for the PM4800. The 2 Up is slightly smaller at 105 mm and has a shallower dish. I find the 2 Up is great for one person as the pies are smaller and I can eat 2 (and it is quicker). On the other hand, the 4 Up are larger pies and the better choice if you want to feed more than one person.

Thank you Bill I appreciate you taking the trouble to answer me I am getting one for Xmas and am looking forward to better shaped pies than I can make by hand.

Hello Amanda A.
There are two sizes on the market at the moment. The PM4210 Pie Magic Snack Size 2 Up which takes 1/3 metric cup of filling and the PM4800 Pie Magic Traditional Size 4 Up which takes 1/2 metric cup of filling.

I was actually after a shallow one, best for sweets. Does this exist?

Hi Judy,

Please Ensure the pastry is not too thawed out when using as the result is not as good. Also ensure there is adequate filling in the pie to enable the pastry to touch the top of the element. This should help.

Pie Magic PM4600 (Family Size)

Hi Sunbeam I have a Sunbeam pie maker that only takes one family size pie. I haven't used before and its still new just had it stored away for a number of years. How long do you think it will take to cook an apple pie in it? Maybe 20 minutes? I have discarded the box and instructions ages ago.

Hi Maurice B,
I would say around that time.
Make sure the top and bottom are browned and all should be great.

I made the apple Pies, using the puff pastry, and put baking paper in the bottom, and I didn't preheat, I put the pastry on top of the baking paper, put a lot of apple in, and then basted with egg, put the top on, and basted that, and just turned it on, and about 20 mins later they we done, easier to put pastry in when it is not hot.....maybe something can be made different with them to allow for this, as I do find when it is preheated, it is fiddler to put pastry in, and it starts to cook before one has the filling in and lid on top......just a thought. cheers......the pies were yummo.

Hi Norma, I use store bought puff pastry on both bottom and top and find that gives the best result is I don’t have time to make my own :)

Sunbeam
Customer C.Sunbeam

Hi Norma,
Thank you for contacting Sunbeam. We find puff pastry used on both bottom and top gives a lovely crunch and crispiness. Or you can use short crust pastry. Try filling pies slightly more than 1/2 cup (not too much more) and leave in for longer than 10 minutes. You can also brush the pastry with egg whites to seal in heat. Kind regards Sunbeam
