Terrible

published

Poor quality, very short cord, it doesn't switch off automatically when finished, the only way to time the steamer is by the amount of water used, takes longer than other steamers to cook vegetables and rice, waste of money.

Purchased in April 2021.

Most used electrical appliance

Very surprised at how often I use my steamer. So easy to use and so easy to clean. Everything I cook in it tastes better than when it is boiled in a pan or saucepan. Very easy to cook frozen vegetables . Potatoes steamed mash beautifully. Much better than when cooked in the microwave oven .

Very good steamer

published

This steamer is great, it packs away very compactly. It steams veggies well, brocolli and carrot are done in 15 mins. My old steamer had a timer but I quickly got used to this one's style of water level showing the minutes and buzzing when it completes. It looks very smart too and is a good size, holds lots of veggies without being huge. 5 stars!

Great so far!

Easy to use and clean. I can steam different vegetables (and others) in one go, it's such a great help for making bulk baby foods. Though it will beep loudly when it's running out of water, i felt that it's safer if it has an automatic off timer. If it has, it would be a perfect steamer!

Get something else

published

I had an old tefal steamer, and when it finally broke after many years of use, I decided to get one of these. BIG mistake! It doesn't have an off/on button apart from the switch at the wall, it often boils dry with no turn off, and needs to be constantly watched (hard with two toddlers).my old one would steam perfectly in about 15mins. This one takes about double the time. I expressed my dissatisfaction to Tefal and they couldn't care less. It was within a month of purchase too.
It is very flimsy and thin plastic. I doubt it will last long, but after seeing the reviews from the bigger one, I won't be buying one of those either.
Try anything else, but stay away from tefal. Cheap junk.

Ok but too high maintenance

published

This steamer is ok, the vegetables tastes good but the rice has never cooked well. The element at the bottom continuously gets corroded from time of purchase. If I knew how much maintenance this machine would be I would not have purchased it.

Excellent value for money

published

This steamer does the job very nicely. Most vegetables are cooked in fifteen to thirty minutes, although I've found corn cobs need at least 40-minutes. I just use it to cook for myself, using one level but I'd imagine would be adequate in preparing the family meal. I've used a second level when cooking vegetables and rice (in the special bowl provided) and it cooks the rice very well - I remember reading mixed reviews about some steamers ability to cook rice. Water will dry up after only 45-minutes, setting off an alarm, despite the Aquatimer indicating a full water tray should have provided 60-minutes cooking.
Cooks efficiently
May need to top up water on a long cook.

Hello I have just brought this steamer, I've used it but is it meant to buzz when finished when switched off?

The only way to switch it off is at the plug, either take the plug out of the wall or switch the plug off, the steamer itself doesn't have an off switch so yes it buzzes until you take the plug out or switch the plug off.

I have never used it as a meat steamer sorry, but it is plenty big enough and I'm sure it would work well

Steam cooked meat is very tender, but if you want a crisp skin (Chicken) you will need to put it in the oven on high heat (or grill if equipped) for a few minutes; or for steak put it in a hot pan with a oiled bottom (spray oil is great for this) for a few seconds according desired taste) and sear the top and bottom.

Just got a message a mini compact steamer for Xmas bought at Myers. Am disappointed with the explanation - not very clear. First, do we have to use all the trays at all times even if you are only steaming one vegetable? Secondly, do I have to put water in both the bottom and the small white tray?

Yes the manual is terrible.
No I only use 1 tray if I need to, just pop the black lid on that one tray. The white bowl is for rice (which I never got nice rice from) so you only need to put water on the bottom tray. My one got very corroded. Let me know how your one goes.

Put water in the bottom bit, the bit that has the phallic symbol in the bottom
