Mattresses Buying Guide
Our buying guide will explain which type of mattress would suit you most, how much you can expect to pay for one, and which features are worth looking out for.
Tempur Mattress Avoiding Warranty Claim
We purchased this mattress just on 4 years ago from Harvey Norman and chose the firm option. The Company itself, do not honour their warranty claims due to the mattress having to be at least a 2cm impression. This does not apparently include the fact that the support has gone from the mattress whereby no longer firm but soft. I would not recommend this product or Tempur due to the fact they do not stand by their warranty or change it to suit themselves if a buyer ends up with a problem. A reputable Company would listen to customers and repl...Read more
ace the product within their warranty. Hopeless 10 years warranty when the Tempur Company Dan foam do not honour it. Buyers should buy mattresses with a spring foundation underneath as if and when the Tempur foam fails (gets soft) thats all you have to support you! along with the recommended base. It seems instead of warranting their mattresses, they just discontinue, and bring out a new model!!Purchased in January 2021 at Harvey Norman.

Has been great
Our Tempur mattress is 12 years old & now ready for replacing. There was no compression of the foam until about 8years in. I have always loved it, although as it is a high density foam it has been warm on those hot summer nights, something we were anticipating. I will absolutely be replacing it with a Tempur. Although not for everyone, it was perfect for us.
Purchased in September 2021 for A$2,399.00.

Worth every penny
I'm so glad I went with my gut instinct and assumed that the majority of people who write on review sites are unhappy. The feedback on the Tempur Original was fairly negative but I'd slept on one for a week when I was house sitting so I just had to convince my partner. Best. Purchase. Ever. It took a couple of nights to get used to but after 4 weeks I wake up every morning feeling rested, I don't wake up when my partner rolls over in the night and have even stayed sleeping when he got out of bed. I have struggled with poor sleep quality for a number of years. Who knew that a mattress would solve that.

Mattress cover fabric
We have similar issues with our mattress or may be only with the fabric of the mattress cover. We purchased our mattress 4 years ago. I loved it from the first minute, but it took a while for my partner to get used to it. He felt like sinking. Now we both like the feel and find very comfortable to sleep on it, except that we need to smooth out the fitted mattress protector and fitted sheet daily and adjust them back to place since they keep wrinkling while shifting to the left. We tried to rotate the mattress to see if this stops, but it didn’t...Read more
, only the shifting changed direction; everything moved to the right. We are up to the point when we cannot put up with this adjusting any more. Recently we got a heated mattress protector, which also started to wrinkle and shift, which, for safety reasons, cannot be left wrinkled at any time. I learned that, this product is discontinued, and currently they are using different fabric for the zip-on cover. So please don't be put off buying Tempur mattresses because, otherwise, they are excellent to sleep on.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Must Buy !!!
You will get what you paid for !!! You will be able to sleep through comfortably even if you sleep with an elephant bouncing up and down.
I had a shoulder ache with any other mattress, but this bed fixed it.
It does get a bit warm when the room is very hot in summer, but it's not a problem if you use an aircon.

Had it a year and it is awesome
We have slept on this mattress for a year and it has transformed or lives. My wife has chronic back pain from falling off a horse and breaking her tail bone as a young girl. She loves the mattress and has improved her life. At the time we could not afford the pillows but got then within three months due to how impressed we were with the mattress. Our previous mattress was nearly fifteen years old but was a high end spring one at the time. I was waking up with a sore back so decided to get the moths out of the wallet. Yes it was expensive but worth every cent and you spend eight hours of each day on it so it's relatively cheap. Do yourself a favour and have a try of this style of mattress.

Warning label ought be required!
I cry when I think of the money wasted on this bed. I bought it on reputation and after a TOO BRIEF test in Harvey's. Yes, it feels enticing for the few minutes spent on it in store- but wait until you try to SLEEP ON IT! The memory foam has a hold of you. You will awaken every time you move during the night, as the surface is tough and needs time to re-conform to your body. That this mattress dose not relieve my back issues and I get out of bed in pain, is actually the least of the problem! It is the nightmare of being woken by the highly resi...Read more
stant surface every single time I switch position during the night that is bringing a new misery into my world. I spoke to the Tempur phone consultant. She suggested I get a bunch of kids to march all over the mattress to maximise the very teensy amount of give in this monster. (I kid you not! Tempur recommends "...put the mattress on the floor and walk up and down...") Reading other reviews here, I have nothing to look forward to. Summer will be a new season of suffering. I've given up. I sleep on the sofa. VERDICT: These mattresses really ought to be labelled with a Consumer Warning... Such as: Not to be used for sleeping!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
like concrete in winter n a fire place in summer
Hate it! It's very hot in summer and as the winter months come, it becomes very hard.
Spoke with tempur and they said nothing they can do for wrong choice!!!
Stay away! So expensive and we now wake up during the night in pain.

Too Hot
The feel of the Temur mattress is great, but I don't understand anyone saying it is not too hot. In summer you burn against the mattress & if you have a bad back it is impossible to turn over without grabbing the bedhead. My wife gets hip pain as soon as she sleeps on the Tempur which goes away as soon as she sleeps on a normal mattress. I would not recommend it to anyone. I will try & sell it on Ebay to get rid of it, otherwise I will dump it.

Best bed ever
It now 4 months since I bought this bed and I have to say it is truly awesome and the best bed ever! Being a memory foam mattress, it is hard at first until your body warms the memory foam and it softens to support your body. I no longer notice this at all. I feel truly supported sleeping in the bed rather than the feeling of being pushed up by springs. I wake up feeling fantastic, my back is better than ever. The Tempur pillows are a great investment to compliment this bed. Some report that the mattress is hot, I do not notice this at all. I c...Read more
an stay in the same sleeping position for a very long time (sometimes all night on my side) and do not get sore. Truly amazing bed and worth the investment. Supportive feeling, it moulds to my body, I do not get sore from laying in the one position. Compared to my sprung mattress, it does sit lower on the base.Similar opinion? Fantastic feel but cant handle the heat
This is without doubt the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on but I am only talking about body support here. From here on it is a nightmare. The problem starts about 10 minutes after you lie down to sleep. It heats up. Not a little but to the point that it becomes impossible to sleep on. Went back to Harvey Norman and they said they have never herd of the problem before and it must be a problem with my wife and myself.
I have even bought a mattress protector that is supposed to have been designed to help fix this problem but no differenc...Read more

Good for back pain
I used to use hard coil, soft coil, memory forms etc and I couldn't sleep well because of my chronic backpain. I checked none of Tempur beds gave me comfortable except for the original one. I tested several Tempur beds for around 10 minutes each with lying down in Domayne and then chose the original. It is so good to support my back and finally found one for my deep sleep. Also it is the best point that you won't be affeced by your partners' movements. Other expensive Tempur beds are covered with a nice textile and the textile is not flexiable...Read more
and I found that one will affects other's sleep. The textile makes a bed look nice but uncomfortable as well. good back support, warm in winter, no interruption from partner, causing deep sleep A bit expensive.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Never slept so well!
After looking at beds off & on for the past 2 years, we finally purchased a King Tempur Traditional & are both very happy! Previously we had a cheaper memory foam mattress that was just too soft. Both my husband & are now sleeping so soundly. Its summer here at the moment and the heat I have heard people complain about hasn't been an issue, which is great, as we are both get hot generally. Love that the bed is very firm and supportive, while feeling incredibly soft & luxurious. My only regret is that we didn't buy this sooner. Couldn't recommend this highly enough! It is so worth the money, after all, you spend a lot of your life in bed.
Firm, yet soft and comfortable.

8 months on & we are still loving this mattress & very, very happy! Still not having an issue with overheating, nor was it too cold in winter. Cannot recommend this highly enough! Jo49

Out like a light
Bought a king 2m by 2m Tempur traditional mattress, ever since when we sleep, we are out like a light! Our previous mattress was a latex one which we had regretted from day one as aggravated my neck pain, so had big expectations for this Tempur one. Yes it was expensive, No it does not get hot at all (we sleep with a heavy woolly doona and still its fine), No it does not harden in Winter time, Yes it sinks and sucks you so its hard to toss and turn = restful comfortable sleep. If we went any softer (Cloud) than I feared we would never get out of bed!
How it moulds to you, yet stays firm for back support. Even my too-soft pillow has become comfortable and firmer on this mattress overnight.
Expensive, had to wait 3 months for delivery.

Love our bed!
We have had this matress for almost a year now. I chose Tempur to try and help relieve the discomfort from two permanently damaged facet joints in my thoracic spine. Compared to my previous, quite expensive conventional mattress this thing is a god send! Within a month I was able to sleep on my back again - first time in over two years. We find that we can sleep for eight or nine hours and wake up feeling fantastic. Some others have commented that they find the mattress to be hot, this has not been our experience at all. We find the Tempu...Read more

Completely unsuitable
Now that winter is here my mattress has hardened. It's way too temperature sensitive. In summer it's fine in winter it has become an expensive brick. Of course the promotional material spruiks the "science" of Tempur. If it is so scientific how come it hardens so much in winter. Ridiculous advertising, ridiculous product.
I wouldn't recommend this product if it were a 10th of the price.
Avoid avoid avoid.
When bedroom cools down the mattress gets harder. It's almost like a block of wood in winter. Way too expensive.

I got to a point where I was spinning most of the night and we moved to another bed and within 4 days my back pain was gone. I don't understand how there could ever be anyone happy with this product. We're $4,000.00 down the drain. But we're going to try sleeping on it on the flip side. There's a solid normal foam down under the "space age memory foam" Maybe that's the answer... try flipping yours. It might be better. DianneSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Overally priced and overally hot-hate it.
I expected big things from this bed given what the Harvey Norman Bedding specialist said. The quality of the mattress fabric and stitching is excellent. It also gave relief for a seriously bad back which is appreciated. But the Tempur mattress gets very hot and stays that way. Tempur says to lessen bed coverings which i did and it altered nothing. It is way too hot! The price is ridiculously high but this could be because customers get gouged at the retail level in Australia.Even if they ever sell on line do not go anywhere near this mattress. And you can't have it for a trial period like in Europe. You buy it -you stuck with it.
Helped a bad back when asleep.
Way too hot . Very Expensive. Very heavy to lift mattress when tucking in sheets.

My back is sore
The tempur mattress doesnt offer the right balance of softness and support. It takes a while for you to sink into it, but then its difficult to turn over. Even though you are sunk into it you still get pressure and need to turn.
We have put up with this mattress for a couple of years because we paid so much for it and they wouldnt let us return it.
Surface layer feels soft to touch
Uncomfortable, heavy, hot.

Purchased this back in jan 2011, got use to the heat factor but our body has aches & pains (back an neck pain mainly). Currently in the process of seeing what forty winks can do for us, emailed tempur directly with no response. if you have back pain I would not recommend the TEMPUR mattress.
At first it appeared to be confitable

I need to let the saleperson know whether i want a tempur supreme mattress which currently has 50%off the price? I am really confused as most of the reviews i have read suggest to stay clear of tempur - gets too hot, too difficult to roll over, the mattress hardens in winter. I was really shocked as the salesperson gave it such a great pitch. I guess it is their job. I am really confused and are all tempur mattresses going to have the same common complaints as in the reviews whether they are an entry level mattress or top of the line? Thanks.

Salespeople get commission!! I think all tempur mattresses are latex (or similar) so of similar style. They come in different softness/hardness types. To me the hardness problem is noticeable in winter of course when the temparature goes down. We've had ours over a year now and it still has this problem. Check out other types, styles and brands of mattresses before making up your mind.Good luck.
I ended up going against the tempur mattress - I figured there must be truth behind all those common complaints. Thanks for your contribution and confirming that I made the right choice. Much appreciated. Thanks.
The Tempur guarantee is a farce also. The mattress, which is made of petrochemical derivatives so it may off gas, comes in layers and it is only the bottom layer which carries the 15 year guarantee the top layers it is only 2 years. So be careful. When I rang Tempur I found the sales staff to be rude and non helpful and this was why I did not purchase their mattress.
