NO. It is a dedicated card that only operates within the TomTom network (at no cost to the user)

I have a Tom Tom Go 1500.
Life time maps don't down load. It goes to sleep, then wakes up, it doesn't know streets that I have been to before. It is about 12 months old and I now wonder about TVSN as I purchased it thru them. It switches to NZ, and wants to stay there. Maybe it should. It's hopeless. My third and last Tom Tom. The free maps don't update, but the going to sleep bit drives me nuts when in heavy traffic. How does it get fixed?

Try a shorter cable. Standard 1.5 cable included with the Tom Tom appears to be OK for power but not for data. Found that the hard way on my 5100

Hmmm ground zero question.

There are no "world maps" but I assume you mean maps for other parts of the world like Europe or North America?

You need to have Tom Tom MyDrive Connect installed on your laptop. DO NOT TRY TO USE THE PREVIOUS VERSION OF "TOM TOM HOME". IT WON'T WORK WITH THE GO5100.

Then use the supplied TT USB cable, and connect the GO 5100 with direct connection, no USB hub. The MyDrive connect will eventually recognize the GO5100 and say "connected". This is the tricky bit. Sometimes it will not connect. Then select whatever maps you need and download. If you want Europe you will need a SD card. 16GB. Cheap. Micro I think. There is also a trick to speed up the download by selecting a different port. See the forum to get details.

Can I suggest you actually troll through the TT user forum website? https://en.discussions.tomtom.com/ There is a ton of useful info in there.

Mine still won't register 6 months in, the street I live on isn't even in the maps even though it's well over 100yrs old. The software is glitchy at best and now it's started overruling my choices and randomly starting voice control. I'm very unhappy with this product.

I suggest you e-mail the company in Europe as I live in an area which is new ( not recognized by Google earth) and yet everything is OK with my Tom Tom.
I have deliberately taken wrong turns and travelled several Km's of the grid and the device recognises that and chooses an alternative route - so no prob for me.
You may need to also look at u -tube as I originally had difficulty (my stupidity) in changing voice types.
Blokes don't read manuals ha, ha.

That is unacceptable. What about returning it for a refund.
I have just bought one on line from TVSN. Hope this does not happen to me.
