Great reliable car
We bought the Camry HL from new in 2014 to use for family transport and commuting to work. The fuel consumption on average in the last 5 years is at just under 6L Per 100Km. I have fitted a tow bar on it so that I could take our bikes with us when we go away (do not use the Camry to tow anything heavy as I think the tow limit is 400kg for the hybrid model).
The car has been services at Toyota at the recommended dates and Km with out any problems. I have just had to change the tiers over for the first time at around 70,000km.
Our kids have now grown up, so I am very happy we got the Camry as it has lots of room in the back for taller people.
When I go to change over the car I will definitely give the new model Camry a chance.
Purchased in January 2021 at Toyota Dealers for $39,000.00.

Very very happy with my car
Past cars I owned are Mazda3,6 and Honda Civic. But this hybrid camry is my absolute favourite. It may not turn heads, but everything just works. Reliable, comfortable, and very economical. May not be the quickest but who cares in Sydney traffic. I feel i am doing my bit for the environment just driving this car around.

Everything excellent except navigation system
Bought the new top of the range 2014 Camry hybrid. Love everything about it except the crappy navigation system. I regularly drive long country runs mixed with city driving and the mileage is brilliant. Goes like a cut cat and is very comfortable on a long trip. The only suggestion I would make is save yourself the big bucks for the nav system and get a $100 Tom Tom. I have been taken the long way round a dozen times, if you miss a turn (deliberately or otherwise) it doesn't recalculate a shorter route, it just tries to make you backtrack. I do 80,000 Km's a year and except for the nav system (and you would think it could be fixed with a software upgrade, but no) this is the most comfortable, safe and economical car I have owned.

Outstanding Australian made car with great fuel economy
I purchased a 2013 HL model and it is definitely the best Toyota I have ever purchased, which is a major concession given that my trade in was a fantastic 2000 Vienta Grande which had travelled 300k without missing a beat! The hybrid and drive-train technology is simply superb and the acceleration when you need it beats the 3.0l V6 performance. The interior finish and the bundled technology based extras represent outstanding value. Based on a recent hilly tour in the Orange-Bathurst area on winding, hilly roads, this vehicle has excellent roa...Read more
d handling capabilities and the ride is well tuned for Australian road conditions. As I did for the Vienta V6, I am running this car on BP Ulitimate 98 grade fuel to gain additional economy and enhanced acceleration. The waiting time for delivery on the Camry Hybrids is of the order of 2-3 months. With such pent up demand for this car, Australians are voting with their feet, and refutes the oft quoted throw-line of many journalists who claim that Australians don't want to buy Aussie made cars - well they certainly want to buy this Award winning model!! Fantastic fuel economy and seamless and smooth drive train, with 'laid on' power when you need it! Can't fault this vehicle!5 comments
Agree totally, I intended to keep my Aurion for years but succumbed to the temptation to buy a hybrid - EOFY deals meant I got an H for the price of a pure petrol Camry. The car is absolutely brilliant! Graham.
Just leased my Hybrid 2 days ago and after having a Commodore for the last 8 years, I love the Toyota. :)
When do the end of year deals actually start? How much price down can one expect? (I am new to AUS. So appreciate your reply).

Toyota Hybrid 2012 Great value for money.
I have the 2012 Luxury model with all the fruit. I think this car is excellent value for money based on my savings on fuel. I get around 6.0/100 with regular suburban driving. It drives well like all the other Camry models with plenty of space in the interior. I have mostly owned V6 cars with 180 to 200KW of power and in comparing these to the Camry Hybrid I really do not notice any loss of power. It is an absolute pleasure to drive and great to see this being produced in Australia. I think Holden and Ford could learn a few things from this mod...Read more
el. The cars handling is excellent for a family car. Interior is well laid out and easy to use. I did find the Hybrid system was a bit noisy in the beginning but I have now done about 20,000 KMs and its much quieter. I also chose the option of paint and interior protection. What a rip off. I would not suggest this option for anything. Its just a way of getting some extra dollars out of you. After owning this for nearly a year would I purchase another one? Yes I would but not in the luxury version. I would get the base model and add in BSI (Blind Spot Indicator) Getting a boot liner was also a good idea. They are not too expensive and keep the boot clear and carpets in good nick. For a car that was voted car of the year in its class, its a good buy. Nice to drive, economical, good value for money and good specifications A bit noisy on the Hybrid system.3 comments

ic cars, does it need to be charged? Appreciate your response :)No it does not need to be charged. It has a small petrol motor that does that when needed thus the "fuel consumption 6l 100km".

amry is not an electric car like a Nissan Leaf. If anything it is better than a normal car for long distances due to the range. Most cars I've owned can't do more than 700 km on a single tank.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Best value car you can get
I love the Hybrid Camry, I got the HL model which is packed with features and very good value for money. I have had no problems with it so far - although it has only done 9000km. The only annoying thing that I have encountered is that the glove box creaks/squeaks all the time. It's a minor thing that drives me crazy, but everything else on the car is ace! Economy is averaging 6.3l/100 which is better than a Yaris!
Looks, economy, gadgets. Hopefully 'that' Toyota reliability that everyone talks about
Dash glove/box squeaks and creaks

Best Car I Have Ever Had
I lease a 2012 HL Camry Hybrid through work and have leased and driven on a permanent basis over 20 cars through work over the years, doing at least 25,000km pa. I have had SV6 Commodores, XR6 Falcons and two SX6 Aurions among others. The HL Camry Hybrid is a fantastic car. In a trip between Lithgow and Darling Harbour I got 3.3l/100km at regular traffic speed on the GWH. When I do drive hard, which I often do, it is rare to get over 6.1l/100km. The car handles as well if not better than any of the sports type vehicles I have had, has almost as...Read more
much overtaking power as the Aurion which was quick, with the power being available seamlessly from go with the electric motor boost. It is a wolf in sheeps clothing and as well equipped as a Euro import to boot. I cannot fault this car. Power delivery, fuel consumption, quality, handling.Similar opinion? + The ability to enter and start with the key in your pocket stands out. + My better half, who doesn't drive, tells me she wouldn't change a thing on her side of the car. - The ride is not as soft as I'd like. Apparently the low profile tyres on my particular model don't help. - There is a slight, but noticeable, jerk when accelerating from stop. Feels like the drive train is taking up slack. - Boot space and towing capacity are necessarily sacrificed for fuel economy. Just a word of warning - if you fit a tow bar & ball your rear proximity sensors won't work. Mentioning that must have slipped their minds when I got the quote for the tow bar. - Although the drivers seat is mostly comfortable (with a plethora of electronic adjustments) the seat position, for me at 5' 10" tall and 80 kilograms, is a compromise. I can't adjust the seat forward enough because my right knee becomes dangerously obstructed by the steering column when braking. If I lower the seat to compensate I end up sitting too low. So, despite having steering reach & tilt adjustments, I have to settle for a straight legged sitting position with the steering wheel and peddles just beyond optimal reach. Maybe not a deal breaker but something to consider. Despite a few niggles (there are always a few niggles) I don't regret the purchase.
