The problem was water leaking from windshield which was replaced 4 years back. Rain leaked in and caused electrical shorts/problems. I took it to service, they suggested I replace windscreen which I had it done. Then they cleaned the joints/junction what ever, and no problem at present. Hopefully the windscreen seal is good and durable and will not cause same problem. Totally it cost $450 for windscreen + $550 for mechanic service an total of nearly $1000.

Hi Riff,

I did not drive a Toyota with so many kms, however what I've heard they can do 1 mil kms when serviced properly. Look, it is probably the most reliable car you can get. Thus, examine the major parts properly such as engine (sound, start, behaviour by low and high speed, acceleration), gear box, suspension... Otherwise I believe it should be a very good car.

Best,
Andrej

The dealer told me they have no problem with older models. But of course depends on previous owner.

We have a 2010 Toyota Altise. Last night we filled up petrol, full tank and as soon as the engine started, the battery sign when on. Our battery was replaced last December. Short run home, all was fine. Restarted engine, the sign still on but car started fine. This morning I made a short 3km run, battery sign still on. Next started the car around midday. (Still at home) Noticed this foul smell and then suddenly saw smoke coming out of the front bonnet. Opened the bonnet and there was literally fire on the alternator. Quickly put out the fire with water and then the fire extinguisher from inside the house. We have disconnected the battery and have booked a towey to tow the car to the mechanic. Is this normal?

Belt came off or a collapsed pulley

No it was an alternator problem, had a new one put in. The fire had damaged other things too. Cost totally $1500 to repair and get the car running again. Every mechanic we talked to, including one from Toyota, they have not seen/heard of this problem ever. All say it seems to be a fault in the alternator.

Not sure though you could take it to the transmission specialist and you could find it is a simple problem such as the gearbox might just need new oil.

Hi Phil, my 2011 Camry was the same. The heat is coming from the light bulb that illuminates the shift selections.

Check Engine compression . A mechanic can do this for you. Also have him check the timing chain although they last the life of a car 250 000 is quiet high.

Other than that I would check all normal things Suspension Coolant system, belts etc. And make sure you do a Written Off report. What $ do they want.

I bought mine for $9100 with 88000 km

Has anyone experienced 'whine' in 2013 range of Toyota Camry's ? Especially annoying at low speeds but if listen close enough is there even at high speeds. Was told scalloped tyres but now they had alternator and tensioner assembly replaced - but the whine is still there! This follows extensive and repeated requests to fix rattling/squeaking throughout dash area (now reasonably fixed).

Are any other Camry owners experiencing their dash melting? It becomes sticky & shiny at 1st & continues till its destroyed,my 2007 Camry has it & it seems like a international fault. Was told by Toyota to take it to a dealer for photos to send to Toyota Japan for accessment,I know of others who have been told the same thing only to be knocked back & told cost of repair to them is $1800 in parts & $2000 in labour.

As I have only had my Camry since Dec 2013 I am not in a position to comment.
I think the problem has been resolved in latter models, time will tell.

HI all, have just purchased a 2010 Camry Altese ex gov car with 18,500km on the clock with 215 / 60 Dunlop Sport SP 300 E tyres, and am extremely disappointed with road noise . My previous 2002 Camry Csi was a lot quieter . Any helpful comments please from anyone .

take it to your local car macanic

Interestingly, I found the original Dunlop SP300E tyres on 2010 Altise to be reasonably quiet, but not long wearing. I would suggest a wheel alignment at your local tyre shop.

Michelins or Goodyears will most likely turn your duckling into a graceful swan. I have seen this many times and then I would never fit Dunlops when given a choice. I had a Merc wandering all over the road, it felt unstable and I replaced the tyres with Goodyear and had a "new" car. Michelins have perfomed well in the past and will most likely provide a more stable, quiet and softer ride.

How reliable is the 2012 toyota camry sportivo after 150,000 km

1 answer

As with any car, it depends on the servicing history - whether it has been regularly serviced. I have heard if cases where camry engines have done more than 500,000 km without any issues. So provided its been serviced regularly, there shouldn't be any problems.

All cars suffer wear and tear / it would not be as good as a new car unless you rebuild the engine with quality parts and re do the gearbox
