Does the job with no fuss
I own a 2010 Camry Altise, I purchased after having problems with my previous Falcon.
Starts up every time and always gives fantastic performance. Stereo is great, fuel economy is good - drove from Adelaide to Melbourne on one tank, ended up with 800km from a tank. Usually about 650km a tank. Everyone says it's slow but I think it does just fine, I'm surprised with the pick up.
Few annoying things - the seats, they are quite uncomfortable and not very supportive and you can't, the car is difficult to park, my falcon was easier!, the dash...Read more
rattles every now and then but stops eventually, doors tend to swing easily nearly hitting other peoples cars, auto headlights are too sensitive but when you open the door they switch off anyway (if on normal setting) Engine & Transmission, reliability, fuel economy, bluetooth audio, stereo. Seats, parking & maneuvering, dash rattle, auto headlights, doors.

Big car cabin, small car consumption
We have had our 2010 Camry Hybrid Luxury now for a few months and it is time to do a review. They are a really good car. Coming out of a Territory, we notice that the cabin is slightly smaller and that the boot is a lot smaller, but our needs are also different.
The luxury model comes with satnav, electric sunroof etc and has lots of mod cons. The boot is a little smaller than the non hybrid model due to the battery storage, but the total power is up slightly as both motors can work together.
The hybrid system is great and keeps consumptio...Read more

Decent economic sedan
I own a 2009 Altise and coming from a 2003 Altise, this car has a couple of performance flaws. Things such as it's very apparent lack of power, it's far too heavy, feels very large and sluggish when compared to the older model and suffers from surprisingly bad fuel economy for a Toyota. The horrendous understeer when pushed to the limit is also an imperfection and it also does have a very cheap, tacky interior styling. The car does however look very good (a step up from previous models), has a very plush and comfy ride, has plenty of interior space and is very reliable.
Reliable, nice comfy ride, roomy, nice exterior styling
Too fuel thirsty, cheap interior styling, performance, handling

Very Happy 3rd Year and counting
I purchased a 2010 early in 2011. I have done about 45,000 km and have not had a problem so far. I use the car as my work shuttle and family run about. The interior is almost identical to a regular Camry so you do not have the fact you are driving a hybrid is not so apparent. This is the hybrid you drive when you don't want to worry about driving a hybrid.
I have consistently retuned fuel economy of about 6.3 L/km and have had no mechanical issues so far.
At first you are quite distracted by watching your fuel economy meters etc. The fact...Read more
the petrol motor will just switch off is a little disconcerting, but after a while driving this car becomes second nature. The boot space is a little limited but has not really been an issue. You are getting car that will take a family of 5 comfortably and only paying the running costs of a smaller 4 car. Fuel Economy. Able to sit 5 in comfort. It is a bit heavier than the regular CamrySimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Superb car Altise 2007
It is superb car, smooth to drive. It is comfort for long drive. I love to drive it. Actually I am addict to drive it. Have a great space at rear seat. Cruise control is also nice. I had 6 cylinder before but never feel like Altise has 4 cylinder. It is very safe care to drive.
Reliable, fuel efficiency and safty
No Aux input.

Does the intened job well
It does the intended job well but is a bit underpowered, you should know this going in though. It becomes apparent when faced with a long uphill stretch, if you don't turn off the cruise it kicks back to 3rd and at 110kph it's on 4+ thousand rpm, without cruise on it changes up to 4th and obviously less rpm ? On the flat it's a decent performer and accelerates well, it has a good sized boot and plenty of cabin storage too. The split fold seat is also handy and will accommodate a length of whatever around 2.8lm without a passenger but Toyota nee...Read more
ds to redesign the boot hinges (everyone else seems to have) which intrude on the boot space, things go well until you try to close it and bend the hinge and damage the cargo ! The 5 speed intuitive gearbox is good, you notice it most when accelerating and then needing to slow down quickly as it wont change up which assists the braking (like a manual) and it also holds back going downhill (sometimes ?) quite handy as the speed cameras are always on the downhill so it helps to keep you in check and save your cash. I had the prior model (same shape) which had the ash tray with lighter socket meaning you had 2 x 12v power outlets, the update removes the ashtray and of course they removed the lighter but it gives you a bigger pocket which stores the large GPS units out of sight, there is now an additional power outlet but it has a socket of which I have never seen before so is useless, buy a 4 way splitter. It gets about 750 klm Hwy per tank and is quiet and comfortable on long trips, never felt better in another car after an almost non stop interstate trip. It handles better than prior models although the better handling came at a price as it can feel a bit choppy on occasion but it's worth the sacrifice. The Stereo is good and has surprising sound, not in a ground shaking way but hey it's entry level stuff and won't disappoint. The A pillar is thick and can obscure vision on a right turn but having borrowed a colleagues Commy it's nothing in comparison, it was downright dangerous !! When driving with a rear window down for the dog there's a unbearable buffeting in the cabin and you have to put additional windows down to remove the cause or close them all, it has a few minor rattles but nothing has fallen off or let go. It has the side air bags and ESC if safety is your thing and it has illuminated vanity mirrors on both sides for those who care, invest in aftermarket tint too as this things a hot house on wheels ! It has enough adjustable items to make you comfortable and I doubt there's anyone too tall for this car, it also has nice styling for the price. Worth your consideration for sure. Well built and good base model features Boot hinges1 comment
That rear window buffeting is true for almost every brand out there....physics at play. Not Camry-specific.

Cheap, Nasty, Horrible Car
I've had a 2010 Camry Touring for about a year.
The good: I've had no mechanical problems. It is roomy inside. It is OK to drive, although the turning circle is much larger than a Commodore or Falcon so beware if you have a tight garage. It has a nice cd player.
Fuel economy is reasonably good- for my driving its around 8.5L/100km. The power is adequate for everyday driving. Ride quality is acceptable. Capped price servicing is a good deal.
The bad: The build quality would be on a par with something from the 1970s era Soviet Union. The i...Read more
nterior is full of cheap, tacky, poorly designed and ill fitting bits of low grade plastic. I've had an endless parade of problems with squeaks, rattles, vibrations, bits falling off, leaks, loose doors and windows. Getting each problem fixed requires debating, negotiating, and trying to reason with a dealer who seems to have little interest in actually rectifying things. For a company that actually boasts about its commitment to quality, this car is a joke. The verdict: For a little bit more, you could buy a Mazda6 or Honda Accord. There is no reason to buy a Camry. I wish I hadn't. Plenty of interior space. Acceptable fuel economy. Disgraceful build quality. Cheap and tacky interior. Unhelpful service dept. at dealer.Similar opinion? We purchased this car in 2007 and haven't looked back since. Car is roomy and very comfortable. It's a bigger car for me as I had a hatchback before so it took a while to get used to the size. We opted for the extra reverse beepers and airbags in the front and back for peace of mind.
Car is a dream to drive. Very quiet and handles corners and parking very well. Our CD player packed up a year after but was replaced under warranty.
Overall I would recommend this car to anyone.

Bad
I drive 1 at work and can say that most of the people do not want to drive it. It is not worth the extra price as it would take about 50 years to get back the difference in price with fuel useage compared to a normal 4 cylinder camry. I would hate to see the running costs of this once out of warranty and batteries need replacing.
Supposedly a green car
Takes a long time to start, fuel useage around is no better than a small 4 cylinder, how much it will cost when the batteries need replacing, expensive compared to petrol camry. Toyota charge too much for their cars.

Sounds like you don't know how to drive a Hybrid! You don't have to wait for it to start. Once the ready light is on you just drive off under electric power. I just traded a 2010 Hybrid Camry on a 2012 model. the 2010 was Great the 2012 is brilliant.

Good
Have owned car for just over a year. Had one warranty repair. Squeeky dashboard. New screws fitted by Toyota free of charge. Not very economical for a 4, but its almost the size of a Commodore. Drives great nice and smooth. Sold my 03 VY Holden Berlina to buy the Camry, and never looked back.
Best looking Camry so far. I have either owned or driven every model so far, and I like this one the most. Huge boot (though not as big as previous model). Remote boot release very handy. Smooth and Quiet.
Engine lacking power, but mostly on take off, hard to see when reversing, but all newer cars are the same. Altise a little blan,

Best car I've had so far. I can't complain as my family loves it and I love it. I have put 20 inch rims on it and looks perfectly good. Very sporty and can maneuver around the quite well and very agile family car.
Unbeatable, one might think that the ACV40 Camry is dull for accountants only car, but it's not. I have the 2006 Camry Sportivo and its been very reliable so far. Turning is stable, safety features excellent for my family.
Just the radio light at night and can be a bit thirsty. Should have a bit more power for Sportivo.

My first test drive in the Camry Hybrid was great, on the open road it was able to get up and oer take road train with ease and I was shocked to see the speedo head past 140kph! So quiet and powerful! I was a bit alarmed when sitting in heavy traffic to have the engine all of a sudden kick in and hit 4,000rpm to charge the batteries, even though the car did not move it made me think I had no control over the car and I did not like that at all!
Solid, quick and a name you can trust
Small boot space due to batteries, and lots of them!

Great family car, quite, easy to drive, very economical yet still gets up and goes.
We have hired one of these, and then went out and bought one.
You don't know the car is really a hybrid driving it, you just drive it like a normal car. I do love the silence at a stand still, and that you can leave the zircon and heating running without the motor running. We found that great for getting the but in and out of the car.

6 litres per 100 K (less that our Yaris!) you excuse that. The only mechanical dislike is that the car lurches when braking firmly, and also when you go for extra power (which it delivers!!!) it revs its guts out.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

This car is still not the future of automobiles. Hybrids still have a long way to go.
I hired one of these and I went to K.I. and did almost 700kms. I drove it day in day out in both sealed and unsealed roads. This car is not as good as people describe. Firstly it is very very heavy and that means it needs more power to move it along (due to all the extra batteries and electric stuff). Due to the weight, handling and braking is also affected which adds to the poor driving quality. Acceleration is rubbish! because only the electric motor kicks in, if you want a faster acceleration you have to floor it, and even then, there is a n...Read more
oticeable lag before the engine motor starts to kick in. On the highway when traveling at high speeds (120Km/hr) I did not notice the electric motor taking over very often, thus I am not 100% that it delivers good economy (only when going downhills and letting off the gas pedal was when the electric motor would power on). Also performance is rubbish, you need to floor it so you can overtake a car on the highway. My LPG commodore VZ can do 500Kms on a full petrol tank and this can do 700Km (and LPG is almost half the price of petrol). For the extra cost and the extra weight I do not think it is worth investing on a hybrid at the moment. Also consider what will happen when those batteries need replacement (in terms of disposal also). I wouldn't call it exactly a 'green' car because it still has a petrol engine and where are all those batteries going to go once disposed? (and also think how much carbon emissions were released to even make those batteries at the first place?). I did not find anything positive about this car - Probably more economic on city driving Front wheel drive - Hybrid is a rushed technology which is nowhere near perfected yet just like the Camry6 comments

Great car - small boot
Have driven nearly 70,000k since bought new - could not wait to get one. Got the optional sat-nav and up-graded sound - best thing ever - really makes that rear view mirror vibrate!! Still a pleasure to drive and plenty of room after 2 years. Looks great and is very simple to drive. Has average 6.8 since new, but would all be country roads, where it is not at its most efficient. Uses much less that that in the city - very cheap to run there! Have done many long trips with 4-5 passengers and has the room inside OK. But NOT the storage - painful...Read more
ly small boot. BIG drawback to consider - and even though I am VERY happy with the car in every other respect - it has a SMALL boot. If you travel with kids you must travel light - plenty of room for 2-3 only. You have to fill up every available space to take kids on hols in this car. This car has far more power and acceleration that most would realise - beats most Falcons and Holdens. When floored it just goes - and goes - up to the limited 185 kph. This was annoying as it was just winding up and I really was keen to see how fast this beast would actually go. On a track of course!! I would think it would go on to about 230kph. The speedo is miles out - a Toyota trick to save even more fuel - just drive it at 108. Sat-nav worked fine!!! Takes some effort to figure. Will get a new Hybrid soon !!! Kids leave next year... essential. Everything but the boot size. The small boot onlySimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Not impressed at all
March 2011 build Camry: The car is a company car, lucky. As I would never buy one. I do not enjoy driving it, but am stuck with it for now.
For a front wheel drive the handling is better than average, the traction control only just manages to keep up with the car in normal driving situations. However, power into a few sharp mountainous corners and the dash warning light soon starts flashing i.e. traction is lost. Good sized boot and the grocery bag hangers are useful.
It's far too much car for the pissy little 2400cc engine to handle, on initia...Read more

dly ever let one stranded. A predictable, mediocre offering offered at a price premium. Even so, a better buy than more impressive Europeaan cars, as the latter are less reliable. The Camry was sadly missed on our roads but now made an affordable comeback as Lexus ES250. http://www.lexus.co.za/model/ES250/intro One need to adapt driving style. Good car & good value for money
I bought a new 2009 model Ateva in March 2010. Compared to my previous car (a 2006 Mazda), the Camry has equally good paintwork and interior plastics. My experience with Mazda (having owned three) is that their quality is very much overrated.
My Camry does lack immediate acceleration at times (eg going up hills) from a standing start, but then again I would have paid more for an Aurion V6 if that was a concern.
The ride and handling is very good.
The interior is very roomy. I am 190cm tall and have no complaints.

We have done just under seventy thousand kilometers so far. Half of which has probably been done city driving and the other half on the open road. The longest trip in this vehicle so far has been about seventeen hours and it was quiet comfortable the whole time. Although it was great to get out an go for a walk! I find that it is spacious in the front back and in the boot. I am happy for this to be a family car.It has more than enough power for our roads and will sit on 130kmh no problems. Any faster is a waste as this is the max limit in Australia. I am pleased with this 2009 Camry.
Spacious well built family vehicle. Comfortable on long trips. Good fuel economy for a four cylinder but such a large body.

Havent had that problem Id contract the dealer where you got it from
The problem was water leaking from windshield which was replaced 4 years back. Rain leaked in and caused electrical shorts/problems. I took it to service, they suggested I replace windscreen which I had it done. Then they cleaned the joints/junction what ever, and no problem at present. Hopefully the windscreen seal is good and durable and will not cause same problem. Totally it cost $450 for windscreen + $550 for mechanic service an total of nearly $1000.

Hi Riff,
I did not drive a Toyota with so many kms, however what I've heard they can do 1 mil kms when serviced properly. Look, it is probably the most reliable car you can get. Thus, examine the major parts properly such as engine (sound, start, behaviour by low and high speed, acceleration), gear box, suspension... Otherwise I believe it should be a very good car.
Best,
Andrej
The dealer told me they have no problem with older models. But of course depends on previous owner.
