They asked me do I take the Ute to the beach and park the Ute at the beach, off course I go to the beach with family. Do you want me to leave the Ute in the garage and catch a train to the beach.

Never Again
Shocking fuel economy (500 - 550 per tank) Took back to toyota & they put it on the computer & the verdict was nothing wrong. First tank of diesel after getting 670Km. Put your foot down with power button on & the motor is revving like you wouldn't believe but has no power what so ever. Will never buy another Toyota & wishing had bought a DMax a lot cheaper

Not the best hilux released
Bought new 2015 sr5 2 Years ago to replace 2009 sr5 hilux and am not impressed at all. Uses 30% more fuel than advised no matter what driving conditions proven by 13500km of fuel receiptslodged with toyota. Already had failed rear diff and water pump at 32000km. Very little 4wd use but “safety features” make it impossible to drive in sand. Spent 6 weeks in total so far at toyota with no clues on cause of poor performance. Won’t be buying another new toyota any time soon. Only upgraded for legal towing capacity.
Stick with mk7 version. I hate my mk8
Also won’t engage 6th gear under any driving conditions unless your doing over 140kmh
57000km in and I’d prefer to drive my old hilux any day

Worth every single dollar!
The Toyota 8th generation Hilux is the best Ute Toyota has produced by far. It is so smooth driving with little to no noise. The interior is luxury and very spacious with very handy little accessory’s like the cup holder and Bluetooth system. I purchased the car 6 months ago and so far have had no issues.

On Par SR5
Overall I am happy with my Hilux. Notwithstanding the fact that it isn’t the most powerful in its class or the roomiest, after coming out of my 2002 lux, I’ve got nothing serious to complain about.
The vehicle is just over 14 months old with 30,000km on it and touch wood, is going well with none of the tail shaft=problems etc that plagued it to begin with. I can’t comment on the stock suspensions as I had a gvm upgrade out of the blocks. If you are 6 foot 6, this is not your Ute. I am fine as I am only 173cm but that’s why there are test drive...Read more

Good but far from perfect
Bought my SR5 A/T in Aug 2016, now touching 40,000 kms. Half motorway and half city drive, fitted secondary filter from new and oil catch can from 30,000kms. Used to have DPF white smoke problems before 20,000. Dealer update ECU then it’s rarely happen. 10.5L around town and 9.3L on cruising. Transmission usually has a clunk when shifting from P to R. No other problems so far. A little disappointment to Toyota because they used to produce totally trouble free vehicles and now they just involve in any kinds of problems. If just want a tough and ...Read more
reliable truck, then the Dmax might be a better choice. July 3rd 2018 Update: Not too bad but not a bullet proof Lux anymore Bought my brand new SR5 in 2016, compared to my previous trouble free Toyota, this one is not good enough. Fuel consumption is high, average 10.2L/100 even on highway cruising(worse than my VW Touareg, which is 3.0 with 2 more cylinders and heavier weight.....). Used to have DPF problems, dealer did the software upgrade, I think they just bring the self gen temp little bit down, still helpless for most owners. Just noticed when it is doing the DPF regen, its idling speed at N/P will be little bit higher than normal, and it smells like burning rubber from the exhaust, while EGT is obviously higher than normal. It may take time and you can simple keep rev at least 3000 rpm to blow the white soot out( like a smoke screen, horrible...). That’s the price you pay when you own a modern diesel. The car used to shake when shifting from P to R, dealer lub the tail shaft to solve the problem. The transmission always fall from 6th to 5th on the highway(someone said it was because the 5th injectors needs more fuel to helping biting the DPF,not sure) . only driven for 45000kms now, can’t tell the injector would have any problems like the 1Kd yet. I believe that Toyota built this new 2.8 D4D motor well or it will be a large humiliation for them.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Reliable UTE!
Purchased this for my small business and have not looked back ever since.
Beautiful car with a phenominal driving experience. All of the features are useful and very user-friendly.
Owned the car since June last year and have not had to deal with any problems.
So far, so good - highly recommend!

Great ute after 15months
My first ute and so far so good but I have a few complaints.
The reverse camera takes a while to display after starting, the GPS is not user friendly! Once you have reached your destination, parked, restart and leave for another destination it keeps directing you back to your original destination. Sometimes it displays "have you reached your destination" but this is rare! I prefer to use a dial to control the volume as it is faster. I prefer to have the GPS display set on default but cannot do this. The side mirrors cannot be set to automat...Read more
ic folding. I also have a 2016 AUDI Q7 and the Germans seem to have their system perfected. Much more user friendly. I have the hard tonneau cover and tray protector. It is great but you need 2 people to remove (5 minutes - 1 x electrical connector, 2 x L pins and 2 x gas struts). The issue is the remote locking mechanism occasionally plays up when you remove and install the hard cover. As a work vehicle - this is great. No issues after 15 months with 25000Kms. Economy is 11.2L/100km city driving. Feels very solid and have loaded the vehicle with pallets, fridges, machinery, marketing display etc and all good. Works well with the trailer. Would I buy this again in a few years time - YES!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
There is a original brake pad problem.
I bought my new hilux sr5 in Southside Toyota Mount Gravatt Brisbane at 2017 Dec.
First one month was awesome.
But I heard some sound from rear brake pad.
I went to service centre, they said it's just dust. We will clean it.
I thought it would be fine.
After 2 weeks from first brake cleaning service, I heard again from brake.
I went to dealership where I bought, mechanic have done test driving with me.

Horrible Car Plagued With Issues
Slave cylinder failed at 170km on odometer, camshaft failure at 14,000km, brake rotors warped 18,000km, brake shields cracked 21,000km, gearbox seals failed 32,0000km and dpf total failure at 48,0000km. Poor trim quality with leather wearing on gear knob and seats. All fixed under warranty but has cost me countless days of time and frustration. Well under powered for towing - can't exceed 90km per hour when towing a boat and trailer under 2 tonne. So much for 3.5tonne tow rating

Great car
Bought this car for work purposes and have never failed me once. It's big and tough yet at the same time very comfortable. The inside is very spacious and I can still use it on the weekends to take my family out to the beaches. It's the perfect work/life balance car

Hard Tonneau and DPF
After owning the previous model and being extremely happy with the reliability I didn't hesitate to buy a new manual SR5 with a hard lid tonneau for my business. There is a lot to like about the car but 16 months later and I am afraid to say it has been back to the dealer for warranty work more then I'd care to admit. From day one the DPF was burning all the time (Idle up not active) and the locking mechanism in the hard lid tonneau would either fail to lock or unlock. Usually I could use the manual key to over ride this tonneau problem, that ...Read more
was until one day it completely locked me out on a job site (not even the key would work). I copped major down time on the job that day, took the car to Toyota and the work shop manager helped me break into it. This then raised more concern as I discovered my expensive trade tools in the back could easily be broken into without even setting the alarm off. The hard tonneau is alarmed to the central locking but not the actual tailgate....say no more. Toyota had at least 5 attempts at repairing and replacing the hard lid lock within the first 12 months of ownership, with locking/unlocking failures recurring soon after each time. I also expected the hard tonneau worth well over 3k to be reasonably water proof but boy was I wrong there, it leaked like a seiv. After a serious chat with the dealer manager, Toyota agreed to remove the hard tonneau and issue me with a refund of what I paid for it. I now have a custom built tray so that problem is solved. My DPF has been replaced as well as had numerous regenerations/cleans by Toyota but is still not right and I am concerned where I will be left once my warranty runs out. Since new I have tried every effort to ensure each burn is finished before shutting the vehicle down, increasing rpm levels during the burn where possible etc, but what I find is a burn can be completely finished, then the next day I start the car and it is burning again idling high every time I stop at lights etc. Toyota has struggled to give me a answer regarding my DPF issues other then telling me to do long highway runs with increased accelerator input. What a joke!!! Most of my work sites are within a 15min to 1 hour driving time so I'm not sure what else I can do. So far I've had no signs of white smoke but I have seen plenty of others blowing plumes of it which is a worry. Other issues have been the passenger door lock would not activate with the central locking and the dash board housing around the instrument cluster has unclipped itself and sagged twice blocking the 4WD indication light. Another thing worth noting is the manual can tow 3.5 Tonnes, but the clutch won't handle a solid hill start. I did raise this concern with Toyota prior to purchase and they assured me the car was tested and rated to perform a hill start with 3.5 T on the back. I very carefully tried it once with 3 tonne on a moderate hill and the clutch wanted to smoke up. Low range only which brings me to the last point. Give me a transfer case any day of the week, the dial gives you high range 4WD when it feels like it, not when you actually need it. Good luckSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Overrated and Underpowered
This was a disappointing experience as I was really excited to save and get my first hilux, the problem started as soon as I picked it up with the tail shaft bump issue. Toyota should have the moral decency to sell new cars with known faults the vehicle had to be returned multiple times for tailshaft spline shaving and eventual replacement, next is vibrations from plastic in dash at around 2000 revs when cold, very annoying eventually repaired after two visits, third was the tub hard lid that didn’t lock or gets jammed so you can’t open by this...Read more
time I was so disappointed I said replace it with a canopy which was badly installed by the dealership the final straw was towing a 2.3 tonne van even using a WDH I would not recommend towing more than two tonne with the new hilux there was little power in reserve, felt like the torque range was tiny when at speed on hwy. In the end just sold it and bought a nissan patrol y62 and haven’t looked back. I think these reviews done by 4x4 mags and motoring magazines are really biased to giving Toyota favourable reviews at the cost of the consumer.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Dpf Be Aware
I used to have the 2015 3.0 model and it was great but got stolen, now I been given by Insurance a 2.8 2016 model and it’s been in and out dealership the dpf keep getting full, stop working never been told when I got this new model all this could happens got new dpf put one and still doing back in again after few 1000 km done, how much will it cost when it’s out of warranty, I never recommend this car, what h out white smoke if your hilux take it back and get it sorted.

wonderful car for working and life
Toyota has a great reputation for being reliable and tuff. This Hilux is a very strong motor. Easy to handle/drive, even my gf enjoys the driving very much. Not too loud noise either. I do love the interior design. Off-road testing ultimately comes down to a tyre test by an impressive armada of technology

My first ute
I brought my first ute ever as too a diesel and automatic in August this year and would have given a full 5 star if the suspension was more sorted as the ride over average roads is bad and forget any form of comfort over poor or unsealed roads. As I'll be towing a tandem 2 ton trailer soon this may yet be a blessing having the heavier suspension.
The engine was a letdown at first being gutless and thirsty but it needed to bed in and now is more responsive and can get into the high 7's on highway and high 8's mixed and still improving after 7...Read more
000km now The auto sometimes can't make up its mind about first and second when slowing for a corner as it can feel like it's in neutral at these times but otherwise I can't complain about it. Noted too is a slight drivetrain grumble in 6th between 1200 to 1600 rpm but I wouldn't call that a fault either it is a 4 cylinder after all. The DFP smelt at first when doing its thing but so far I've had no issues with it. I've saw another Hilux putting out white smoke a few weeks back which would indicate a faulty DPF, I hope to avoid any issues and judging by other comments here I'll be more worried about it when the warranty expires. Auto diesel SR5 dual cab; A huge let down
This is a vehicle that looks good inside and out and is quite comfortable but is more of a show pony than a serious 4x4. If you want an around towner with the ability to do some basic offroad at the weekend then OK.
I bought this new and in the first three weeks I had a problem and had to nag the dealer (no fault found a few times) and finally they found a tailshaft problem that was a known and substantial fault for some same model Hilux's (so maybe should have picked up in pre-delivery!!??). Also had a problem with the tailgate. So much for...Read more

Most reliable
It’s the best looking most powerful and most technology hilux yet. The safety has also improved with extra airbags. As soon as I drive this new hilux I noticed it was not only a lot quieter then the previous model but also more powerful. The motor revs a lot less. Toyota has a great reputation for being reliable and tuff, with 50k on the clock I haven’t had a issue yet. (My mate bought a ford ranger has had a heap of problems).

Here come multiple problems
I loved my first ever hilux until this week. My DPB was burning for 3 days straight so I called the service department to ask why? Answer = Not sure, crap! Booked it in with over a weeks waiting time. The next day after speaking with a DPF expert I drove it in and asked for it to be fixed immediately. Dealer did a regeneration on it and now it works fine but the DPB is a factory fault and will do it again in time. I was told I should be doing more HWY driving (excuse me WTH). 23000 klms
My fuel tank as others tells me I’m empty while there is...Read more
