Great family and work car
With the powerful 2.8 turbo diesel with automatic transmistion my Toyota SR5 Hulix is a pleasure to drive, being a diesel engin it is very fuel efficient, we get about 9.4km per liter, interior is very stylish and modern, my exterior of the car is graphite grey and we think its one of the best looking 4wd duel cabs on the market.

Why did I spend so much on so little
I purchased my SR5 in November 2016, traded my beautiful silky smooth, powerful Kluger on it because I always wanted a ute, when I test drove it I found it not as powerful, not as quiet, not as comfortable as the Kluger but its not the same type of car so hey you'll get used to it. After 3 months of ownership, the ongoing noise from the diesel did my head in, the fact I had to really consider overtaking due to the lack in power annoyed me, the harsh ride had me scratching my head for solutions, so I started by letting the tyre pressure down the...Read more
n considered having the suspension modified. Then the little things like I went from leather seats to cloth, no light in the glove box and not even a drivers vanity mirror started to upset me. This type of vehicle is fantastic for those who tow, or tradies, campers, 4WD adventurers NOT for people like me who live in an urban area do urban things and taking the family away 3 times a year. The vehicle itself is good just not suited to the wanna be's like me, so before you spend quite a few dollars on one of these vehicles think about do you really need one because if the answer is no there are plenty of cars out there that are cheaper and have more features and are far more comfortable. I got rid of it at 7 months

My SR5
We purchased our toyota hilux sr5 brand new about 6 weeks ago and we can't be happier we drove the car from Melbourne to Byron bay and only fault was the seats the comfort for the top of range is a bit disappointing but this was only thing we can fault with the car. The sr5 was good on fuel The performance was as expected, with the std tyres the noise was very minimal, I would have expected a bit more chunkier tyre as felt the tyres didn't expel water fast enough....for the 6500km we have on the vechile we avg 7.8-8.5L/100km fuel economy and recently towed a 10x5 enclosed trailer and avg around 14l/100km
Overall we are happy with our sr5 purchase

My husband loves his Hilux more than me
After years of my husband ooing and ahhing at every Hilux he saw, I gave him the push to buy his own. He took weeks going around to dealers to find the perfect one. He was so happy. On the first day he got it, I looked at how high it was and struggled to get in. The leather kit was amazing and it has all the bells and whistle - the camera, the deluxe black wheels, the roof racks, the hard top etc etc.
He was in love, I was happy for him, until he yelled at me for pressing one of the buttons too hard because I could "damage" it. Was this guy ...Read more
serious. Needless to say I let him know he can sleep in the garage with his new car and he got the point. In summary, it's a great car, it really is. If you partner wants one, let him have one or he will go on about it forever and do your head in.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Gearbox problems at 20k
We have purchased a number of these for work. I drove a 2016 SR5 automatic which has just been returned from Toyota. The gearbox struggles to find second when coming out of a corner, the engine revs hard then bang the 2nd gear engages and the wheels spin! This can't be good for the drive train. We are sending it back this week but I have had a second complaint from another sales rep. We have always purchased Toyota hiluxes due to reliability and resale value. I am really nervous with this new model!

Bittersweet
To start with, I love driving this vehicle. At 55 years of age it is my first ever brand new vehicle. I have worked in Toyota vehicles of some description or another for the last 30 + years. The majority of this time spent off road in outback NSW. Current vehicle is a Toyota Hilux that has been taking a beating for the last several years with no problems, squeaks or rattles. So when it came to purchasing a brand new vehicle for myself, I decided to stick with the Toyota.
I am not a bells & whistles sort of guy, and am happy with the Spartan a...Read more

Sr5
Quiet, comfortable,economic, reliable.
2016 SR5 also has a good insulation in the cabin - for heat and noise. Perfect for Australian desert conditions.
The cabin stays cool longer than my previous ute I noticed. good leg room. Navigation system is little confusing in the beginning takes time to get used to it.

Great ute
I purchased this car in early May 2017 I’m very impressed with how quite the car is on the road. We also own a Corolla and the hilux is a lot quieter on the road. We took the hilux to Uluru and I couldn’t tell the van was there. Got the economy down to 12litres per 100. I didn’t want to stop I loved driving it. My only problems is the fuel light comes on with 20 litres in the tank. The other is the auto goes between 5th n 6th up n down. I purchased a premium package and got leather seats love the seats so comfortable.

Still the best vehicle I have purchased
I upgraded from a 2014 to the 2016 Toyota Dual cab SR5 4X4 vehicle and found it to be better than the 2014 model.
I did 98341 kilometers without any problems with the 2014 and found the new ute to be a very good upgrade.
The only problem is the lightness in the rear as you feel the unevenness of the concrete roads but with any weight in the rear it is magic.
I tried them all but went back to the Toyota, price and reliability.

Squeak in rear suspension and weak mirror system
My 2016 SR5 squeaks with passengers in the rear seats. The effect is the same as polystyrene rubbing together. Took car back twice with no change. When returning from a 4x4 run my mates laughed as my new Hilux squeaked like a 1915 old truck. Right mirror with caravan mirror on it folds back at 80 KM/H by itself. Toyota staff advised this is normal and not something Toyota see as a problem. I thought the Hilux is unbreakable but clearly weaker than the competition in some areas. As a last point did anybody found the trimming on the dash reflecting sun light into the cab blinding passengers and driver.

Hilux - The new head turner
This is our first 4wd / ute and it's perfect. My husband actually refers to it as 'sexy'.
We fell in love with the red colour. We've had so many compliments. Our 2yr LOVES it.
First time towing with it last weekend with a ute full of Water Ski & camping equipment and the drive was incredibly smooth ..... Wonder if my husband actually remembered his wife & son were in the car or if it was just a 2 hour intimate moment he was having with the Hilux.
Everything is so easy to use, Bluetooth is crystal clear and the bomb digity is the DIGITAL RADIO.
Old school tunes -- the best ..!
Fuel consumption pretty good & leather seats - awesome ..!
Very happy with our 'Third Wheel' in our marriage.

New Hilux vrs Old 4.2 GU Patrol Cab Chasis
I have a 2005 GU Patrol and need more towing capacity. Enter Hilux.
I like the extra cab. I can chuck the grand kids in and the extra length of the tray suits putting a boat on top better than a dual cab.
The Hilux has incredible fuel economy, 8.6 lph from 1st tank (only been one) worked out the right way not by onboard computer and have seen 7 lph on highway on the computer. When the fuel light came on at 698ks there was still 20 litres left. I can live with that.
The Hilux is very quiet with heaps of power. I love playing with the econo...Read more

Great Ute
I traded a 2009 Ford Ranger to this second hand new generation SR5 with 18000kms on clock.
Good points:
Very very quiet inside
great tech options in the SR5 - has excellent bluetooth, in car digital radio, great GPS - everything works well
powerful diesel - a beast on the rough stuff. Coming from a old school ute to this luxury inside i often felt "bad" taking it on the beach for a fish but she eats it up
Great internal finish - i bought mine with cloth seats and covered with canvas. I had no need for leather and it doesn't doo well in t...Read more

Rubbish
I traded my 2007 SR5 for 2016 SR5 both diesel auto, old one gearing was perfect, new one starts of ok but come down a slight hill and it drops a gear and puts the revs up like you've put it in 3rd in a manual box, but worse is if you come to a slow corner say 10-20 kmh it seems to not be able to find a gear it wanders between what feels like 1st and 2nd, once you pick up speed it's fine and goes up through the gears no problem, any ideas? I've tried changing how much I press the accelerator but makes no difference, can the gear settings be changed by th dealer who isn't that helpful, the hard cover hasn't locked since I got it 3 months ago, I've had it back there 3 times, if you open it the alarm goes of.

2016 Hilux SR5 2.8L Turbo Diesel
I've had the beast for a few weeks and I'm lovin' that Toyota feeling!
The first sensation driving it, it's made for serious off-road adventure (why I brought it). The suspension around town is firm but not uncomfortable. There's a ton of feedback which I find re-assuring. The steering is slightly heavy but not unexpected going from a mid-size car to a mini Mack truck. Phone & app connectivity is just ridiculous, certainly features I'll never use properly.
Handling is exceptional, noise is almost non existent (I have weathershields whic...Read more
h may/may not add to that). Gripes? The auto gearbox is slightly out of whack. The verge between 4th & 5th gear is about 63km/ph. For the best economy I need to speed essentially. Or I take manual control of the gears, not a big problem. It's also eager to downshift to 5th on a 100km/ph overtake. There's a thunk coming from the rear every time I take my foot of the brake when stationary. I think it might be the spare tyre is a little loose. I've yet to inspect it. Otherwise it turns heads wherever it goes, the ex-wife loves it, she can look only! I'm looking around 750-800km/s from my first tank mostly around town. Will be testing it's off-road capabilities very soon.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Worst Hilux ever
I have had all the last 4 generations of Toyota Hilux,s. This is most definitely the worst Hilux I have had. The hilux gears down on the smallest of declines and revs up to 4000 rpm. Passengers comment "whats that noise all about "Toyota refer to it as their DSF (decent safety feature). It does it at high speeds and as low as 30kmh.
Another are the injectors that burn and smoke. My hilux had to be towed back to the service department. They replaced the injectors but hear is the cool comment : TOYOTA have not developed a computer system to repair this as yet.
So you purchase a new Hilux and have to drive around with this until a COMPUTER SYSTEM is developed.
Total JOKE
And you have heard that it also failed its roll test.

Its very average!!!!
This is a reasonable car with low running cost- with capped price servicing and cheap diesel, it is affordable to run as long as you dont push it. Owning the SR5 for over a year has been ok as the parts are expensive and hard to find. The backseat is too upright and it very uncomfortable as the seating is thin. The ride is very bumpy and unsettled in the back unless you have a large load (300kg+) of stuff. The ute is very long, it is hard to fit into car spaces especially on street parking. With roof racks and no adjustments it is hard to get into shopping centres as the hight is 2m with roof racks.
Besides that it is a average car with aspects that need to taken into account when buying.

The new Toyota Hilux 2016 fails moose test - YouTube
Please everyone before purchasing a Toyota Hylux, have a look at the testing done in the US, these things just tip over very scary, spread the word that this is unacceptable, apparently models affected are from 2007-2017......
Imagine if you had to swerve suddenly to avoid anything on our Aussie roads it could be the last thing you do...!
