Waste of money!
We went from a GXL prado to a 200 series Landcruiser to gain the extra boot space as we have 5 children.
Very disappointed, the 2016 gxl has none of the features of the gxls before it, no sterring wheel controls, no heater in the back for the kids and no reversing snesors.
To top it off when we tow or over take it derates and goes into limp mode, very dangerous! After months of complaints to toyota it finally was looked at today, it needs 8 new injectors as they are faulty, the dpf burners are not operating as they should, and it has failed i...Read more

LandCruiser Sahara 200 series
Purchased this 4WD as a tow wagon for an Off Road Caravan. Also has to serve as a weekend adventure picnic transport and week day commuter. Pulls the 3T van at the legal speed (100KPH) on highways with no problem. Very comfortable, all the whistles and bells. Just cruises along. When things get off road and interesting again just pick a line and ease along. Broken tracks, ruts, uphill, mud, rocky down hill just pick a mode and ease on. Fraser Island or Stockton beach sand just bog out the tyres and float on top. More than enough power with quie...Read more
t comfort and confidence about getting back again. Only problem is having to go to work. Did have one problem. Fuel pump diaphram had a pin hole and drained out each night. Took a while to pin it down. But Toyota did not stop until the source was found and fixed. So yes I would recommend an LC200 to anyone who wants to take a drive and be sure of getting home again.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
2016 200 series VX, great for towing terrrible for comfort
Sure it has great pulling power but our y62 patrol is hands down a better vehicle on the tarmac we only tow and never go off-road so cant compare in that space but the steering in the landcruiser is bloody heavy and ever so slight vibration that comes through the steering wheel causes discomfort in arms. Ive had it from new towed a boat to QLD and 2 weeks later i still have an aching arm, never get these issues from our nissan as soon as practice (when its a year old) im going to sell it hopefully the success of the dodge ute will bring other big capable tow vehicles giving us a choice other than toyota. The nissan when towing the range of travel avail is a let down but choice of driving id take my wife's patrol 9 times out of 10.

Perfect vehicle - pure luxury
Bought a 2016 Sahara twin turbo diesel. By far the most superior Landcruiser we have owned. Exceptionally comfortable on long trips. Very happy with the power and performance on road and off road. Touch screen is easy to navigate. Warns you of school zones/ red light cameras etc. Highly recommend this vehicle. Pure luxury.

2016 Sahara Vibration
I purchased my Sahara in February 2016 at the first service I complained about a vibration at 100 klm speed on the freeway with a slight incline the dealer told me to drive the vehicle till the next service and hopefully it will disappear. By the time 10,000 klm service came around the vibration had been getting worse just after that service 8 injectors and a carbon canister were replaced with out any improvement the vehicle was rebooked to have the Toyota experts look at the car. After that investigation Toyota specialists admitted there was a...Read more
problem but did not have a fix for it they thought if might be a software problem and that Japan would have to solve this issue. In the meantime I thought I would go on a short Holiday with my Caravan (Toyota specialists said it would be okay to tow with ) after driving 2Hrs I got out of my car both my Wife and I could hardly walk because the vibration was so bad. After returning I Phoned the dealer to see what progress had been made (nothing still waiting from Toyota) so made a complaint to Toyota customer care by phone and in Writing two weeks on no reply I was told that they would investigate and get back to me within three days. So I made them a complaint to the dealer Principal and within three days I was asked to bring the vehicle in to have a software upgrade done on arrival I was told that the vehicle was having a toque converter replaced so that is being Replaced as I write this. In closing I don't think even the so called expert no what the problem is (software to a mechanical part. SteveSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

I have a 2016 Sahara and my old iPhone 6 use to connect perfectly and incoming text messages would pop up on my screen but now have the iPhone 6 Plus and my text messages won't show up on the screen like it use to. I don't have message settings on the screen (can't remember if it previously did)

2016 Sahara - somewhat disappointed
June 2016: Seats not overly comfortable and vehicle bit noisier than expected. Doesn't compare favourably with previous Prado Grande. Radar cruise control (with no lead vehicle) does not behave the same as normal cruise control even though Toyota says it does! Missing some great suspension options available on Prado - overall disappointing.
October 2016: update 10,000 km later, with 3,000 of those pulling a nearly-3 tonne caravan.
OK, I brought it to tow the caravan and it does that very, very well. Masses of torque and power and gets a whole h...Read more

Fuel economy
I found fuel usage of my 2008 Sahara around 12L/100km. That's with BFG types, ARB bull bar, Longrange tank and drawers, 3 inch exhaust.
I would expect the new model to be be better. I'd be interested to hear from others. The new model has a .5 improvement on fuel.

Not King off road
Buying the 200 series 2009 Sahara from our local Toyota dealer, with service history. You would expect the car to be workshop checked. Since having the car we have travelled 30k with it. Until 12 weeks ago. Vsc light on . Into dealer 6/8 injectors need replacing, $6200. Insurance company called for fuel related contamination. Not that after 8 weeks, retrieved car. Took to desiel specialist. Said engine has been dusted. Must have been 90% worn out when we got it.Need new engine. Toyota no help. Will be no change from $20000.

comfortable tough and reliable
A joy to drive tonnes of power and very comfortable. Very comfortable upright seating. Very quite although a mild resonance at about 1800 rpm. Highway economy 11.5 litres per 100k with several mods and lots of extra weight on board. Towed my 3.5 tonne van (around Australia) with ease and ecomony 16 to 20 litres per 100 depending on hills and head winds, no reliability issues in 100, 000klm but hard on front tyres around town, bump the pressures up to 40psi will help. Have done some serious off road work e.g Simpson Desert, handles it with ease and without a mark

Toyota has at last listened
Have just purchased my fourth 200 series having had 2 GXLs now 2nd Sahara and the first 3 no matter how much i complained about them not holding in 6 as a lot of people have there is no doubt the problem has been solved maybe by the little extra power they gave them, but just back from ADL all the hills over and back it definitely held on in 6th as much as down to 1300 revs before it changed, a lot of people have talked about torque converters but in the 2016 model there is no problem,Toyota even gave me a printout on how to solve it on the ear...Read more
lier ones but it was crap. Another great extra is the Radar cruise control which is ideal as it keeps you back from traffic ahead with 3 settings and if you are in two lanes and it has slowed you down because of a car in front you overtake and it automaticly goes up to your previous speed without touching accelerator August 11th 2016 Update: Perfect as it is Not previously stated but for all you people who want to Chip your motor (2016 model) don,t as when the ECT button is pressed there is a massive amount of power there,a service manager of 20 yrs exp. said that people who do are taking a risk as the motor is designed to take a certain amount of stress but give it too much and you can have trouble and hes had 2 come in under warranty claims but they see it had been Chipped so no good for them. June 8th 2017 Update: Still happy with the vehicle as a whole On the 4th 200 and second Sahara and still happy with the overall performance having done 16ks but still waiting for the 9.5lts per 100ks and am sure it won't happen, i think the extra horsepower was gained by increasing revs to get it to 200kw by an extra 200rpm at 3600rpm where as my older ones were 195kw at 3400rpm so what would you think, safe wise i feel better being in something which is solid and reliable like the old saying you can take a Landrover into the scrub but you need a Toyota to get back.Similar opinion? Very good but could be improved
Just sold my 2013 Landcruiser 200 VX after 65000 stress free kilometers and was blown away by resale value. Mine was really quiet inside for a V8 and we found it very comfortable. Although mine was used daily it proved to be an excellent tow vehicle (3T caravan) with reliability that exceeded my expectations. My only suggestion would be Toyota should look at the VW Bluetooth system as mine was pretty ordinary when compared to the wife's VW. Nevertheless I am taking possession of my new VX soon because once you have had one, you will know why it is called "King of the Road".

Re. fuel consumption
I must dispute fuel consumption figures from some contributors for the diesel engine!
I'm touring now in a 2T van and have covered 10k so far. I keep accurate figures, via Road Trip app. Fuel used towing the van depends on speed (I travel@95-100kmph on speedo), wind, terrain, technique, and I average 17-20L/100k. Without the van 14-15L100k, with a loaded roof rack on and the car is packed to 3500kg. Running about at home, roof rack on empty, lightly loaded, 12/13L/100k. (I also have a torque converter lock-up kit fitted, which makes a fair difference.) These figures are honest and accurate!

Love the car - Tow 3 ton Caravan
I am currently looking at reviews for my son who is thinking of buying a work horse. Have read many reviews on many cars, it appears to me that all cars have a lottery associated to it, as how it is going to perform. To balance some of the comments made about the Landcruiser 200 series, I've had mine from new. (2013). I've done 85k. I have not had any problems with it at all. Comfortable and tows my 3 Ton van with ease. Love this car.

Excellent GXL 2015 car except not having a retractable mirror for parking it in my garage
This is an excellent GXL 2015 diesel car except not having an automatic retractable mirror for parking it in my garage which is too narrow when the 2 mirrors are unretracted. The question is that can these 2 mirrors be retractable later or a year later? It seems toyota is not interested but may be an oem is willing to add this automatic retractable mirror. What do I do? Please, let me know.

ade by Toyota's robots! The paint degrades after washing your car with a normal cleaning product. Toyota and the dealer are denying everything by blaming the consumer as usual because of using the wrong washing product or inexperienced cleaners. Damages is costing $ 1,800 to repaint the side of the car following the advise from a smash repairer expert. "What a bad feeling". My exprience illustrates that Toyota' quality standards have dropped in the last 5 years for a Landcruiser costing well over $ 80,000. Furthermore, the regulator ACCC is not very helpful when complaints are lodged with them. Dusted diesel engine- design fault needs acknowleging by Toyota
I bought 2007 200 series with 165000k on clock. Did a big desert trip- performed brilliantly-best vehicle I have owned in nearly 40yrs of driving. At nearly 300k-knew the injectors need replacing. Dealer did a compression test first and motor basically stuffed-esp. the left bank. Have since found this is a common problem and I did well to get 300000k. This is a design fault in the air filtration with the draw of the twin turbos and Toyota will not address the problem. Landcruisers -as promoted by Toyota- are an extreme off road vehicle- NOT a...Read more
n eastern suburbs yuppie vehicle. But this is why Toyota say there is no problem because that is where most of them are and they do not see dust!!! I added a snorkel when I bought the vehicle and I have gravel roads. But I expected to have this car for years- it did not have an oil leak or a rattle and I sold it for salvage at auction (to make sure it was not palmed off to someone unaware of the dusted motor) for way below it's value because Toyota will not acknowledge the deficiency in one part of the vehicle. I have now been told of the motors being stuffed at onwards of 90000km. I will add my dealer is as frustrated with Toyota as me- and they were great in trying to get something out of Toyota.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Price
Just seen in one of the reviews that someone paid $95k for a GXL. I went to a few dealers on the gold coast and I was quoted ridiculous numbers for a VX. I went back to our usual dealer Oldmac in Springwood and as usual I got a great deal (i think) i got my VX for $94k. I don't work for or have anything to do with these guys but honestly we have now bought our tenth vehicle over eight years from them between Mazdas and Toyota and no other dealership has ever come even close to their prices. Highly recommended excellent no pressure service. Which when it comes to car buying it's truly rare. Pat Flynn.

2016 Sahara - luxury
This car is a 3.5 tonne beast. It is very smooth to drive in most situations, with power that just keeps on going. There is one minor exception. Slow driving uphill will occasionally cause a gearbox clunk. Nothing too concerning, but a little annoying as you may spill your latte when dropping off the kids.
On the highway, this car eats up the kilometres. Radar assisted cruise control means you can maintain a good distance and reasonable speed effortlessly. The lane departure monitor isn't the best in all conditions (bright light or heavy ra...Read more
in), but fortunately it errs on the side of warning rather than not. The seat coolers and warmers in the front, and warmers in the back are a little luxury that I now will demand from all future purchases. The interior fittings on the car are good enough, the controls not too confusing, but the multimedia, touchscreen and satnav are quite primitive. This doesn't matter one bit though when you put your foot down. Fuel economy around NW Sydney is around 17-20l/100km. Best economy achieved over 8500km so far is around 12l/100km, not towing. Fuel consumption went up by 4-5l/100km with roof basket on with highway driving. Costs per month are around $225 for fuel, for around 1300 km/month.1 comment

00k in city driving. The only gripe I have is this thing chews through tires (at least the bog standard tires they put on). 35k on the clock and I need to replace the front tires for a second time. Had a similar issue with our Prado the car before. Maybe it’s due to city driving, but I’d expect more than 15k per set of tires. Maybe I’m expecting too much for such cheap tires.Similar opinion? Turbo issues
Turbo problems between 100,000Km and 200,000Km are not uncommon. This is an expensive repair if it is the RHS or passenger side turbo as some take the motor out while others drop the transmission. I currently have my Sahara in the repair shop and it has been there for more than 20 days awaiting repair. It is in Alice I am in Port Lincoln. I am wondering about possible class action.

A few few teething problems, but happy in the end
What's with no audio or phone controls on the steering, and the fuel consumption is nothing like it says on the sticker. That said the vehicle drives well, has heaps of power and just cruises the many highway kilometres that I do. I presume the next release of the GXL will have the gadgets expected in this price range.

I recently had a pre-fuel filter added and the car now "labours" when starting. It may go for approx 3-4 seconds and then kicks over. It has been back for rectification 6 times now and even had the filter changed but it still does it. Any hints on what the issue may be. NB when filter was being installed also had a manifold clean and remap. Cheers
