NOT a reliable car at all
Bought this car brand new from VW Wangara WA in 2014 for 38000. sold in 2018 for 12000. Second-hand value took a dive after warranty expired. The maintenance is very high range from 500-900 every time and lack of feature. at 97000KM the engine start getting rough so I took the car for check and apparently the DSG gear is worn out!! to fix the problem will cost 2000!!!!!!!!!! so guys, do not buy this car regardless if this is a German engineering and 5 star safety rating. for the money I spend, you can easily get something much more from that. This is my lesson.
Purchased in April 2021 for A$38,000.00.

Great car
The body is sturdy, it’s not a tin box like other cheaper SUVs. It has excellent pickup and responsive braking and steering.
My one criticism is the boot space. It’s barely enough to fit a large stroller. Add shopping to that and you are putting groceries all over your passenger seat and in the foot well. However, it’s a trade off I would take over having a big, slow, ugly SUV or people mover (eek!).

Oil guzzler
I have a 2014 132TSI the first 12 months the car was great, arrange to get it serviced, everything has been great, after its first service 7 months and I'm getting warnings no oil, serviced again drive 5,000km and the engine has already used half of its oil, the oil is dark and dirty, again I contact VW am told the engine has run in and it's normal to use a lot of oil. They then tell me if I want it checked I have to pay $154 for an oil consumption test. This car is still under warranty. so I'm not to expect to get 12 months out of my engine oil. This is disgusting, will never buy another VW

Great Drive
For a compact 4x4 wheel it is very comfortable roomy and frugal on petrol. Cannot fault its performance, handling and noise level. It is easy to get in and out of and safe too. Great for towing a lightweight Caravan. There is lots of baggage space. Just love this Tiguan.

Luxury compact 4WD
We were able to purchase a 22,000km, 2013 132TSI manual 4-motion Pacific that was in v/g condition.
Would have preferred auto, as the manual is a little awkward to use at times. Tiguan is quite a luxury ride and is exceptionally quiet. Performance is good, though thirsty if you give it too much stick. Has been trouble free and shows no sign of being anything else. I think it is top of it's class.
Purchased in February 2021 for A$22,000.00.

Tiguan Pacific Petrol 2012
This was my first 4WD as my wife and boys wanted a 4WD this time, not a family car. I test drove Subaru's, Honda CRV, Mazda5 but when I drove Tiguan Pacific it immediately was very appealing. This was mainly due to its plush interiors (only Mazda 5 had similar quality interiors), quiteness in comparison to Subaru's, and most of all the technology in the vehicle was fascinating. It has rear view mirror dimmer, heated mirrors, round the corner headlights, auto wipers etc which is all included as standard, which are optional with all other cars...Read more
. Parking assist was difinitely a deal maker just because of its cool and easy parking abilities. No other 4WD's had that feature. Steering wheel, seats all are great although boot seems to be small as we were used to family car sized boots all these years. The boot is no different to a hatchback's. Now for the negatives; Car uses Premium petrol only and is not fuel efficient by any standard. It is a small 2 L motor. I need to fill every week. I used to drive a 4.0L Falcon few years ago, that used to give me the same efficiency with heaps more power without a doubt. And I could fill E10 in a Falcon. But Tiguan uses only Premium petrol and is surely costly on the wallet on a weekly basis. More than the issue with Fuel, my Tiguan keeps coming up with low oil indicator every 6 weeks. Took to the dealer and they topped it up and said it is normal when the car is new. This went on for the whole of first year. After 15,000kms it is still doing the same. Dealer said it has no problems as cars use oil. But running out of oil every 6 weeks? He said, It depends on way people drive etc, but I should check oil level every week anyway. I said none of my previous cars both new and used, I had to worry about oil, It got filled when I took it for service twice a year and thats about it. Never had oil lamp come on in my Fords,Toyotas, why VW? Still no answer but to say that he checks his girlfriend's car for oil every week. Which in his mind is normal. I think there is a problem with its engine which is a shame being German built, being a nice car in other terms. But enging and transmission are the guts of any automobile, which one would think VW would have perfected over the years. My car is only 18 months old, still under warranty, so I will keep an eye on the engine oil issue. I am worried this may be heading towards a bigger costlier problem. In the first few months when the car was new, I used to tell everyone, my next car will be VW and why buy anything else. But after going through engine oil issue and service centre's attitude I have certainly decided not another VW. I have heard a lot of issues with gear boxes etc from others but luckily by car has not had any such as it is not DSG but normal automatic box. I think that is a relief. Technology, nice interiors and storage etc Engine problem is the main issue, being the main part of a car this overrules any positives of technology and interiors.Similar opinion? 2012 tiguan pacific 132kw
I have only good things to say about this fabulous vehicle. Having driven Hyundais, Toyotas, suzukis and fords before this one feels much more upmarket to me. I must say we chose to get a manual after hearing horror stories about the DSG. The gearbox has been fantastic. The shifts are precise and very smooth. The NVH characteristics are as good as other German cars like beamers. Everything inside feels just perfect mechanically, you can tell that these are built to last (tiguans are made in Germany unlike the golfs!)
The car has lots of power ...Read more

Top SUV - Great Fuel Economy - Beautiful to drive
Typical German Car - We have the 2 litre petrol turbo - built well - solid on the road, drives like a sports car, had ours for almost a year, we bought ours from Bryan Bert in Capalaba - service from them has been outstanding. I love the sports mode - holds gears and changes appropriately for sporty driving - handling is pretty good for a SUV. Great Gadgets too - I think the navigation system was a waste of money as an option though - but all the other options were worth while such as the HID head lights, electric seats etc.
Fuel economy, quality, divability
In car factory navigation system could be easier to use.

gine, they have replaced the piston, stripped the engine down and rebuilt it, they have replaced the fuel injector, the onboard computer got a bug and stopped working and wouldn't connect to the engine, had troubles feeding fuel to the engine, they have replaced the EMC they have also replaced parts of the engines with sports parts as it has fixed the other cars. 2 months and the car is still in the Service Department, have been told it will remain there until they can fix it. God only knows when, but not sure it will last long after something is going wrong the minute they fix something. It is a lemon stay away from VW cars
