Q 200

Hi. I have an original, 'bought it when it first came out' Q200. Gets used 3-4 times a week and aside from burning out a grill a few years back, it has not missed a beat (or a BBQ) in many years!;) But, alas, I noticed this weekend that the burner tube has began to crumble and does not heat evenly at all! Please help! Is it replacement time or can I buy a replacement burner tube? Thank you, Pat

Hi Pat
The burner tube is made from stainless steel - it's very rare to see them break down - normally it's that the holes in the burner tubes clog up with fats and debris, therefore limiting the amount of gas (and heat) coming through them. Best to check this thoroughly first, take out the grills, and inspect and clean the burner firstly with a grill brush then with a metal paper clip poking it into every hole making sure it's clear of any build up. If this doesn't work, or indeed it is actually the metal breaking down, then please contact Weber Customer Service on 1300 301 290 and they will be able to help you out from there to get it back up and running.

Hi there - the Stationary Cart is the one to go for - Product Code: 8460 $189.95 RRP - just contact your local Weber Specialist Dealer and if they don't have stock then they can order it in as we do still have stock available in most warehouses around Australia. Cheers, Dave@WeberAustralia

Q 200

I have inherited a barely used Q200 and was excited to use it for the 1st time only to discover it is a Natural Gas only model.
Are there conversion kits available that are both 100% safe and effective? Or should I offload it and just get a LPG model?

Actually - as long as it is an Australian model of the Weber Q200 (check the serial number on the white compliance plate sticker on the unit) then Weber Australia can convert it for you from either LP to NG, or the other way around. (the explanation above is from the USA website, the Australian website is www.weberbbq.com.au)
Just call customer service on 1300 301 290 and they'll take you through the process. Of course there is a charge for this to occur, and we will send a technician or a store representative to do the job.

Cooking instructions for best steak?

Hi JJ,
We found trial and error about the best for steak. A couple of things which seem to work best were
1. the steaks should be thick, about 25 to 30mm otherwise they tend to be tough.
2. preheating is of course essential, leave the setting on high and about 3 to 4 minutes a side is ample.
3. rump and porterhouse steaks are excellent, pork needs a lot less and I don't think cooks as well as beef or can be achieved in a controlled pan.
We are in Germany at the moment after visiting our daughter in Bahrain. She uses a conventional bbq as well as a Weber from America. She cooks her beef steaks for a little longer, about 5 minutes a side and rather than leaving the setting on high turns it down. They are excellent as well and we will try her method upon our return.
Cheers, Brian.

Hi JJ,

Depends on how you want to cook it.

General method:
- Remove the steak from the fridge and lightly brush with olive oil. Season with the salt and pepper.
- Preheat the barbecue for direct cooking.
Once the barbecue is preheated, leave all the burners on high.
- Place the steaks on the grill. Using the back of your tongs, gently press down on the steak to ensure good contact with the grill.
- Close the lid and cook for between 3 and 6 minutes per side, depending on how well done you would like the steak cooked (see timing guide). Turn the steak once, halfway through the total cooking time.
- Remove the steak from the barbecue and allow it to rest for about 5 minutes.

Reverse Sear:
- Roast the steak on a convection tray and trivet (over the grill, not hotplate) until 10°C away from ideal internal temperature.
- Once it is 10°C away, take it off, wrap it in alfoil and set aside while you set your Q up for direct cooking (high setting -refer to your handbook for this - you want your Q as hot as you can get it for the final sear)
- Just before placing the steak on the grill, cover it in a light layer of olive oil, as this helps form a great crust around the outside
- sear the steak for roughly 60ish seconds a side and you should be done!

Q 200

Dear Rep, I bought a Q200 a month ago from Masters, used twice, noticed that only half of the gas tube was lighted, tried a few times with the same results. The ignition does work fine with sparks every time. Not sure what happened. Thx for your help.

Sounds like there is something clogging up the burner tube preventing the gas flowing all the way around the burner tube - check this for me, making sure that EVERY hole is clear of debris.... let me know and we'll go from there. Dave@WeberAustralia
