Its working for us!
We have had this credit card for a number of years and have been pleased with how we have been able to use it only when we really need it. We have paid it off and used again with no problems. It has a low interest rate that allows us to keep the card at a $1000 limit so that we have no problems in paying it back and saving on interest. We love the ease of this product.

Being wise
I have read a few of the reviews and noticed a lot of negative comments. Let’s be real here, we are living in a era where many rely on plastic. Yes, they may be great, but as an individual you need to be wise. Live within your means and yes, need to budget better. We have been with Westpac for 28 years and have a credit card with them 20+ years. Interaction both between in bank/on phone have been sufficient. Low interest rate is helpful, so if interest is added on for the month it isn’t as bad. It all comes down to management, yes if we max the...Read more
card of course it takes longer to pay. Less than 1 yr ago, we were frauded on our account and received a alert on our phone. We were maxed ($2000). Westpac took the situation on hand and within 1 month we were reimbursed of all transactions. Personally, have no issues with the Westpac Visa card. You just need to be diligent.Similar opinion? A basic no frills card with a low rate
I got this card due to a signup bonus, it has no extra features really but has a simple low rate. Would recommend that you consider this product for your future needs.

Great card, works well for us!
Westpac low rate credit card is a great card that works well for us! We did a 0% interest balance transfer from ANZ, and then have kept the card on for business purposes! Great interest rate. Never any problems with using it!

Stay off Westpac
I applied for a low rate credit card. Got one with a very low limit compared to what I received from other banks. Took this up due to being cheaper. So now you have got through and activated the card, you just keep waiting for a balance transfer to happen, and no one knows to track it. It has been 2 weeks now and still, they just say it will come in 1-5 days. Just a waste of time!!Beware of what Westpac advertises and stay off..

Ruins your credit rating
If you are happy to have a credit card application listed on your credit file, that dragged out for weeks and then you never got any response or card for then westpac is the bank for you. They will demand all your documents and give you a short time limit to send them and then after they have them you won't hear from them again for weeks if at all. You can hound them for an answer but they won't even acknowledge your emails

first they will keep on offering you to apply but then they decline your application for no reason
First I was being offered via mail for three times for low rate credit card. When I did not respond to that they got to me in my westpac app again offering the same. Finally I applied for it with a full clear credit history from Veda. First kept on asking me to apply but eventually when I applied they decline it. And when I call them to know the reason for the decline they just refuse to disclose the reason for the decline because they don’t have any valid reason of course! And now just because of that I have got a bad credit refusal in my record.

Low rate credit card Balance transfer
Just giving a heads up to everyone. Keep away from this bank. I had recently applied for a balance transfer with a low rate credit card. Guess what, with a permanent part-time job of $2300 fortnightly pay after tax, paying no rent, the amount they offered me was $3000 to transfer. I simply had a credit hit because I applied for this credit card. When they finalised on the decision, I was taken by surprise because when I was casual with lesser income,I had got almost $9000 balance transfer credit with another bank that I paid off. Please don't fall for their offers and don't make the mistake I did.

Cancelling
Watch out if you cancel during the yearly period. Westpac will try and keep your fee. After questioning this they stated it's part of the terms and conditions. I downloaded the terms and it did not state anything about keeping fees. I question the agent and their manger about this and they said i would recieve a call in 2 to 5 working days in regards to my dispute. Paying for a service and not receiving it sounds like a none ethical practice to me even if it was a few days.

CHEAP BUT POOR SERVICES
Being waiting for 4 weeks but no respond. I rang the card processing department and then they told me to send them some documents. have a little complain and they transferred me to a fax machine... then i rang the complain department, but the lady wasn't trying to help. perhaps she was trying to get her jobs done. rang again 4 days after i sent all the documents they needed and they told me to wait.(total waiting period more then 5 weeks) strongly not recommended

Don't do it !!!
After being with Westpac for years and leaving in dismay, I tried one more time - what a big mistake. This bank moves with glacial speed (almost none), there is no pro-activity, no responses to e-mails, you just wait for days and days for nothing. I have been approved for many credit cards immediately or in 1-2 business days - this bank, you just wait for the icebergs to melt !!!
I wouldn't try Westpac again if it was the last bank on earth.

I like it
I got this credit card since 2012, I love the security and its flexibility. Following Suze Orman's advice on selecting low rate credit cards :)
However I wish they add a loyality program to it, it would've been awesome.
Customer service is good, they keep on hold for a while but they are always helpful. The ladies at Rosebay branch are sweethearts!

Excellent
The low rate of 11.99% for purchases and 17.73% for cash advances makes this card up there with the best.
No reward programs but the low interest is a more important factor, besides it comes from an actual bank, also very handy if you are already an existing westpac customer as you can pay your monthly bills online simply by transferring the money straight over instantly.
You never get hassled by the bank, the card can be linked to other accounts. Only $45 annual card fees.
This card is perfect for someone who doesn't need all the exra's, just a simple card with low interest charges
this Card has no hidden fees and charges, very straight forward, very competitive low rate 11.99%

This is a good, basic, straight forward card for every day use. Has a superb low interest rate and a low annual fee compared to other cards.
It would be nice if there was an associated loyalty programme, for example if you gained airports with each credit card transaction. But then, those other cards are out there if you prefer.
As with some other cards there is a fee for withdrawing cash which is annoying.
Low interest rate, low annual fee. Up to 55 days interest free. Accepted nearly everywhere.
No associated loyalty programmes so no extra rewards for using your card.
Extra fee for cash withdrawals.

The card is actually a good one for who don't spend too much every month and who who don't always pay in full by the due date
The 55 interest free day is a good feature in addition to the low rate of 11.99% as advertised. Their customer service centre is of excellent quality, promised to make you 100% happy and satisfied whenever you need any help or have any enquiries!!
They keep increasing the rate all the time and there is no rewards program associated with this card. In fact, those programs are added to the Altitude card.

Excellent
I once had a dispute with my credit card with fraud and once when my items got stolen. Both occassions, I rang up Westpac and they were quick to help me with a solution and both times, I was impressed with their effectiveness in which they handled the matter.
Low annual fee. 55 days interest free when I first got the card.
At the moment, the card still works fine for me.

Good
I applied for a small credit card when going on holidays earlier this year and still have and love it. Its great for all of those just in case moments when you know you have a big bill or expence to pay and want to leave money in your account. I just put it on the credit card and pay it off over the month. I never have an outstanding balance at the end of the month so i pay no interest. I was one of those people who have seen people around them get into alot of trouble with credit card debt and have vowed to never get one but the Westpac Low Rate Visa card has helped our family out alot.
Low fee, 55 days interest free, no reward gimics, just a great credit card for those just in case moments

Good
I got my credit card and it is great for me. When travelling I can put it all on there, and then pay it off from my savings later and not get charged interest (whilst earning interest in my savings account) Westpac is good, I can select to get the statement sent to me and save some trees. Overall happy with this service from westpac
Low annual fee, great interest rate, Westpac will call you if you're credit card has unusual transactions. 55 days interest free. Great for 'in case' and to set up regular direct debits
Nothing at this stage, I still have the credit card.
