The centre plate suffers from uneven heating on my Ziggy triple grill, also the flame height hardly varies from lo to high, any ideas or should I junk it and get something else?

My triple grill is useless. I wish I would have bought a Weber Family Q. The uneven heating, thermometer fogging, useless roasting dish (stupid piece of engineering) and their (BBQs Galore) poor customer service should be enough for anyone reading this to realise that the Triple Grill from Zeigler and Brown is a waste of money. Buy a Weber.

Is the hood thermometer accurate? If I cook a roast on 180 deg for planned time will it work?

No, in my experience the hood thermometer is useless. I have brought a wireless thermometer that measures the internal temperature of the food I am cooking and the ambient temperature inside the oven/bbq. The hood thermometer gives very different readings to my other thermometer (Meater) which I believe to be very accurate. Note that depending on which burners you have going, you can get quite a variance in temperature across the internal space. I also find it is quite difficult to get the temperature down to 180 degrees using the 2 small outside burners. The minimum (accurate) temperature I can get is about 190 degrees. To get any lower I need to just use one small burner which results in an uneven cook so I need to continually switch burners or rotate the roast. Luckily the Ziegler and Brown can get to the desired temperature very quickly (about their only claim that seems to have some merit). Good luck with your cooking - it does do roasts very well.

My Ziegler bbq single burner ring won't get hot enough to cook steak - more stew than grill is the effect I end up with. Also took too long to roast a leg of lamb which had to be finished in the oven. How can I get more heat from my BBQ? It is a limited edition colour red portable, take anywhere model.

Have a look at the flame height with the burner on full and then take it back to low. It is roughly 15mm high on full and 5mm on low on my triple. If yours is different then you may have a blockage or regulator problem.

I haven't had any problem with the temperature gauge yet.
I don't like your chances with their warranty. I am still waiting for them to reimburse me for the wheels.

Don't worry about the gauge, it]ll never get hot enough to cook an egg.

Garbage appliance - I regret the day I bought it!

It is not very accurate. At best for me it is ok as a rough guide. The best thing I did was fork out for a wireless meat thermometer, there are quite a few different ones available and they make a huge difference. My bbqing has improved out of site since getting one.

The triple burner trolley is expensive and cheaply made. The wheels won't stay on and we are only trying to move it a few centimetres. We followed the instructions when putting it together.

After reading negative reviews regarding the trolley, we didn't purchase one. Instead we bought a stainless steel table on eBay. Very happy.

It's not worthed at all. You are on the mark. Expensive and cheaply made.
Their warranty service is non existent.

Couldn't agree more with regards to the small wheels, they are constantly coming off when I move it around. I don't mind the trolley as such, but as mentioned in another reply, warranty service is non existent.

Hello we purchased our Ziggy for Xmas and love it for everything except medium steak.
Tried all three plates, heating it up for half hour, lid open, lid closed, no wind about, oiling steak not oiling steak. and cannot get Charing. Steak end up stewing and grey. It's like the flame is to far away from steak. Husband is very unhappy. Please any advise?
Thank you

Looks to me as if you are attempting to cook and preheat with the lid up.
This wont work.
Your BBq should get to 250deg C within approx 7 min from cold. Once it gets to temperature cook well oiled steak with the lid down.
Honestly with the lid down its hot enough to make horse shoes.

No Jenny It should be alright there is plenty of clearance. plus the heat is rising away from the bottom. On the smaller
models the BBQ does not have its own stand.

Hello Mike, Thanks for your response. You mention the Portable Chilli Red doesn't have its own stand. Thats interesting as BBQ's Galore have them on stands of their own.
Thanks for taking the trouble to respond. Kind regards, Jenny

I imagine it would depend on the table surface. However rather than buy a flimsy stand which I could not recommend as we now have another broken wheel (the first 2 faulty stands were replaced...note Barbeques Galore) If you sit your lit Ziggy on the table and check the temp. of the table top with your hand after a few minutes. If it is too hot for your hand then you should investigate placing a heat resistant sheet of metal or something between the barby & table.

I purchased a triple grill with a wok trivet. Is there anything I can adjust on the gas supply to get enough heat to the wok hot to actually cook anything? A piece of fillet steak is taking about 20-25 minutes to achieve medium/rare.
For nearly $1000 it does no better a job than the barbecue I replaced for this.

Sorry, I haven't really used the wok in anger on my triple as yet. My best guess on using it would be to remove the side grills and turn the centre burner on full and leave it for a while to let the wok get good and hot. Possibly turn both side burners on full to get the wok sides hot as well. My wok's cast iron, so it takes a good while to get it hot. And I use the wok burner on my stove top together with the wok trivet. Once hot though, it does a sterling job. You mentioned fillet steak. The wok's meant for small pieces of meat and veggies cooked rapidly and constantly stirred in just a little oil. Unless you're doing that, only the small pieces of meat are of fillet steak. Anyway, I hope this helps you achieve a great result!

I was trying to cook the steak on the grill, not in the wok. It appears as if the flames on all 3 burners come nowhere near the item I am trying to cook / heat and needs to be adjusted somehow to allow greater gas flow. I don't have a stove top wok burner as a fall back - unfortunately, that's why I ended up with this grill.

Go to BigW and buy a Campmaster Butane single stove for $20 and a box of a dozen butane cartridges for $16 should solve your problem. I got duped myself buying the Z&B bbqs and the Weber. The worst part is doing indirect cooking for white meat like chicken bbqs. My no name 4 burner bbq did a better job that these gimmicky bbq sold with cooking accessories.

QUESTION:
1. How long does it take for a Z & B Triple Grill - and a Weber of same size (capacity), to get to their respective 'operating (cooking) temperature' ??

2. Is there any big variation in the 'recommended' cooking temperatures of each BBQ (for steaks) ??

Thanks in advance :)

I only had the Baby Q Weber not the family size one so I'd only be guessing. However, it takes 5 minutes or less to get the Ziggy Triple Grill up to cooking temperature. I have all three burners on full to do that. I use the Weber 'lid down' method to cook steaks, sausages, rissoles, etc so I can achieve the same taste Weber is proud of. It keeps the heat and smoke in to make the cooking quicker, you use less gas, and get more even cooking.

The Ziggy website has recipes and video tutorials for the different applications. For steak, they recommend rubbing the steak with olive oil on each side, then season with salt & pepper before popping it on. You want the hotplate or grill quite hot, so it sears the meat. Don't go over 250deg C though. As I said, I use the lid down method. The Ziggy has the power to handle lid up or down, depending on your preference. Other secret is to turn the meat only once. The time on each side depends on the level of doneness you prefer. Say, 4 minutes a side for medium rare or so. You could expetiment with the temperature range of 200 - 250 deg C. I hope I've been of some help. Happy cooking!

What is ideal temp to cook steaks/sausages?

Steaks - all 3 burners full on for at least 7 mins. Sear steaks on centre plate hood down then move to side grillls for some char. down
Sausages - depends on type. Thick, thin, fatty, gourmet. i do them all differently

I use pretty much the same hood down method that Weber does. That keeps the heat circulating for even cooking and gives the meat that unique bbq flavour that Weber brags on. And does the meat quicker, saving time and gas. Rub steak with olive oil both sides and season with salt & pepper. Trick is to get the hotplate or grill very hot first. Say, 250 deg. Place the meat on and close the hood. Cook for 3-7 mins, depending on required doneness, then turn once. Close the hood and cook for similar time. Take meat out and rest in a tray covered with foil for around 5 mins. Enjoy!
