After your car is repaired and you cancell the policy does the life time guarantee still apply if you are still the owner of the car and you go to a different company

"Life", in English, may refer to the life of the car, OR your lifetime, [perhaps another 50 years]? They should not cancel it while you are still alive. To stop the "lazy tax" [people who are too lazy to check competitors prices] we should check prices AND what the coverage is, every year or two [plus the star ratings on Product Review].

Hi Rick to be honest mate I'm so pissed with this company I actually dont care anymore even now two WEEKS after the accident I still dont have my car back but for sure I'll NEVER go back with them again the only good thing thats come out of this is the bad publicity they've gave themselves, just beggars belief aye ?

Try contacting Consumer Affairs & I think there is an Insurance Ombudsman who will act if they ignore your written requests. The manager may have gone off "sick" [due to "overwork"!] Request his underlings help you, & refer them to this widely read product review site, which is giving them even more bad reviews, & losing them LOTS of business!

The insurance co. will tell you. Why dont you ASK them? I believe you can claim the full amount, LESS any excess YOU have chosen.

Have you been asked to pay excess in a Not at Fault accident by APIA or told they cannot decide liability after a rear-ender? Interested in comments from those over 50s people insured with APIA who have been told by APIA that they have to pay the excess payable in not at fault accidents, rear-enders, side-swiped, etc. Particularly interested in those with claims denied and being held at fault after review when the other driver’s insurer is a sister Suncorp Group entity. I am currently following the processes to take them on as this seems to be a common occurrence.

No. I have not paid excess on my rear end claims.

I have had so much go wrong with APIA telling me I had to pay excess when the other driver accepted liability was just the beginning. I am currently going through the Australian Financial Complaints Authority private message me if you would like my details I definitely want to take this further

Hi Michelle,
Will do. AFCA is hopeless. All my recent dealings has had decisions in favour of the Banks and Insurers as they are staffed with some who are still wet behind the ears (you pay peanuts- you get monkeys) or who have worked with insurers or banks’ and determinations are made just rubber-stamping the first decision . What a farcical ‘watchdog’ setup. These people just like internal disputes people at Banks and insurers usually have no legal nous or qualifications nor proper external disputes resolution training plus they justify decisions by telling you they ‘decide issues not necessarily according to Australian laws’ and they say they do this ‘to be fair’ - so don’t hold your breath.

I'm curious to hear any comments regarding APIA Roadside I recently heard of a lady having to wait two hours for a tow truck. I'm now questioning if the Roadside Assist is worth the money. Any comments on your experience of this service would be appreciated...Annette

I cannot comment on APIA roadside as I have never used it.The best is NRMA but is soooo expensive. They have just introduced pay monthly as customers are leaving as they cannot afford yearly premiums.. When any company starts monthly., weekly and even daily payments as health funds do,Google one knows that they have exhausted their price hikes.Google roadside assist au and find one that suits you personally and you will find something suitable but you will not know what they are like until you use them and that will be the experience maybe you will not want. regards Kennygee

My car was stuck in park in a service station at a bowser on Easter Saturday and apia refused to send a mechanic or tow truck as it was a long weekend even though they advertise 24hrs a day 365 days of the year. It cost me over $200 for a tow truck. Obviously apia can advertise a pack of lies and not get into trouble.

I think anything to do with APIA should be avoided
I plan on taking them to court, nothing but problems and I believe they collude with the assessor over claims to not pay out AVOID at all costs

As long as he is legally allowed to drive in Australia and is not breaking the law of course. however if he will be driving more than once per fortnight for an extended duration ( 2-3 months plus) then he will need to be listed as a driver. its best to call and just advise them that he will be driving it though 135050

I cant really answer that question, also I'm not sure if you are referring to the age of the vehicle or the driver. Either way I haven't asked Apia that question during my dealings with them. Give them a call 135050

BFG
BFG

Car premiums do go up as the driver gets older. (75 years and up) just like it costs more for younger drivers (25 years and under) because as we get older of course our bodies aren't as quick with their reaction times nor is our sight and hearing as good. youll find this is the case with most insurers

Hi my question is if a person is at fault and causes an accident and the persons insurance company classes your vechile as totald how do they determine the value of my car for insurance purposes?

2 answers

Tom Lund

It all depends on the wording of your insurance contract, as to whether the car is insured for "market value", or an "agreed value". Market value of course means just that; what your particular car would be worth, considering its condition, immediately before the accident occurred. A company assessor would be involved to help determine this value. Hope this assists. Tom Lund.

My Mum has stopped driving + doesn’t want to sell her car yet. She wants to know if her premiums could be reduced because of that.
