Worth the money if you understand the specifics of the product
The Arkpak 730 is a multi purpose unit with it’s price mainly due to the 7 stage battery charger - one of the best available.
It’s a system that requires some understanding - I’ve called ark Pak many times and learned a lot as a result. I feel a lot of the negative feedback is through a lack of understanding as to how the unit operates
1) Arkpak shouldn’t be judged on how how long a battery lasts because Arkpak doesn’t sell batteries.
2) Ark Pak are first to tell you that the battery charge indicator is unreliable, so there’s a sett...Read more
ing to switch to a much more accurate voltage meter. 3) When first plugged in to mains power, it takes a a minute for the system to decide how long the charging process will be. Within that minute it fluctuates wildly so isn’t an accurate representation... It’s not a perfect system - the inverter draws 6w to 8w when in use, the inverter is only 300w, the lack of an inbuilt solar charge controller is annoying. If you want to spend more $, “ goalzero” are the industry leaders but for the price, Arkpak is my preference.

Great concept but quality needs to improve
First unit wouldn’t charge. Lost the unit for 3 weeks to get it repaired by ArkPak. Unit not reliable in my experience; battery 100% one minute, low battery warning the next or unit doesn’t start at all. Intermittent performance, sometimes fine for days. I really like the concept but the quality of the unit needs improvement.

Great product
I’ve had my ark pak for around 2 years now and it’s been awesome. I use it to run my 60litre Engel as dual battery isn’t an option with me and it hasn’t missed a beat. I use a cheap 160w solar panel and it charges to 100% every day while running the fridge at 2 degrees. They are expensive but also worth the money.

perfect camping item.
Best camping item I have ever purchased, plug in fridge, lights, charge all electronic gadgets.
Will last 5 days and still not to low.
Also will be using a solar blanket to top up.
Doesn't take up much space in the back and doesn't get hot and no noise.
Definitely recommend this product.

Works great to run fridge and lights
Love the Ark PaK - my car doesn't have a duel battery and this was a great cost effective and transportable option. The PaK come in and out of my car to run lights, charge phones and run a fridge while camping.
I have recently bought a 160w solar panel which powers the battery on longer trips - love the screen that shows battery levels and power usage.

Gave up
Had my ARKPAC 730 for a couple of years now. When I got it I installed a Century GEM deep cycle battery, it charged up, we went camping and the unit performed well. Came home and tried to charge the battery, tried a number of times since and no matter what I did could not charge the battery through 240v charger. The only way I charge the ARKPAK now is to use solar panels direct to the battery, I'm not interested in trying to fix the problem anymore, especially when I read and hear about so many people having so many problems with their ARKPAK. The ARKPAK is a great idea but they don't work. An expensive lesson learned.

Disappointing 730
I bought the AP730 as I wanted to have the best. I saved to get this unit. I took it camping for the 1st time and it was amazing.. my solar panels charged it up through the day and ran my engel for the total duration of our trip at zero degrees. Charged up phones etc..
Went to take it on the second trip a few months later I unplugged it from the wall and the screen went blank. I noticed the 10amp and 30amp fuses had blown. I replaced them and once the inverter was switched on the 30 amp would blow again. Emailed Arkcorp I'm still waiting for their reply/help.. that was 2 weeks ago now!!
Great product but way too expensive to use once!
Customer care ZERO.

Thanks for nothing Ark Pak

Not as claimed, but OK
It does all the things it should, but with issues
Very noisy fan makes charging in a sleeping area not an option
Open Circuit Alarm always going off (just Google it)
240volt adapter will die early, replacement is $$$$$
Support is good, the people at Arkpak have much online support
But when you are paying north of $400 for an empty box, should you expect such issues?

Reasonable only
Good for running our evakool fridge...BUT had to wire charging plug for it through battery isolator so cranking battery wouldn't go flat when ute turned off AND have just found our 2nd 240 volt charger for it has died. Rays outdoors in shepparton where good enough to replace it but bloody annoying when it stops working miles from anywhere!!!

Arkpak 620 model
I have a tip if interested
If anyones ac adapter doesn't work anymore, do what I do and use my laptop one. It works for me, try it before forking out for a new one. We charge ours with 150w solar whilst camping to run our 60lt evakool frige freezer/lights, charge phone etc.

Not ideal for remote camping
I've had the Original ArkPak for sometime now (since 2014) and while it hasn't been used a lot I've always had a suspicion it wasn't quite as good as it's portrayed.
I am currently conducting some trials to see if I will keep it or get rid of it. The trials consist of a 105ah AGM battery hooked up to a 250w solar panel 24/7, For the 1st week it was connected through the anderson plug connection and it kept the battery fully charged, with no appliances running off it, The following week I ran a small (15w) compact fluoresecent globe 24/7 for ...Read more
a week through the 150w Invertor, by the end of the week the battery was down to 15%, The next week I plugged the ArkPac into mains power to get the battery back up to full charge, the solar panel was disconnected. The next week I connected the solar panel up to the external battery terminals with no appliances and the battery was kept fully charged. The next week, still connected to the external battery terminals, I ran the same 15w compact fluoro light 24/7 for a week, the battery dropped to 58% by the end of the week trial. This week I've removed the light and left the solar panel connected to the external battery terminals and the battery was kept fully charged. I'm reluctant to connect my fridge to it and trial it for a week given the results so far. The manual says that when you connect to the external battery terminals it by-passes the 7 Stage charger, I'm not convinced of that as the display still shows battery status throughout the week trial. I know I'm not the most skilled of campers but my feeling is the 7 Stage charger is not ideal for remote camping as it cycles too many times to allow the solar panel to do its job of charging up the battery, the ups and downs take away the opportunity to get maximum charge into the battery for as long a period as you can so that it gets you through the night. When your out remote camping you don't have the luxury of plugging into a main supply to top-up the power, something more to think about. Don't get me wrong, the ArkPak works well to protect the battery and give it a longer operating life but surely a properly maintained battery (one that's monitored and kept charged up at all times etc) will still last the distance if it were connected either directly to a solar panel that has a suitable regulator and/or another charger that doesn't have as many charging cycles as the ArkPak, but my trials are leading me towards getting rid of the ArkPak. Feel free to provide advice if I'm doing it wrong or if you know of another way to maintain full charge in a battery being used in an ArkPak or just share your thoughts. Lastly, I would rather be wrong than right, coz if I'm right then I've made a bad investment choice and will loose money when I go to sell it off.4 comments
Back again, found out I don't need to buy a new or different battery box, I just pulled the MAIN fuse from the ArcPak which disengages the Charger (and power to the Anderson Plug and Inverter outlet) ... Read more
and allows the solar panel to charge the battery through the solar panels' regulator. I plugged my fridge into a 500 watt inverter connected to the external battery post connectors, so far so good, it ran for 6 days with a 25% loss in battery power (more loss than I expected or had hoped for) before an electrical issue developed which stopped this trial continuing. Stay tuned as I continue to find the most optimum way to keep power in my battery and run camping electrical good (particularly a fridge) with having to top-up on mains power.Back and again, found out I don't need to pull the fuse, just down't turn the box on, leave it in the off position coz you can still draw power from it, you now have a glorified battery box, so I've l... Biggest waste of money
When I first purchased the unit the screen commented battery too hot. Very cold to the touch, we drove it to the manufacturer for repairs.
Now the fan won't turn off, wearing out fan and draining battery. When you try and charge it it counts up in hours, getting to 391 hours then two minutes later says 100% charged. Turn it off and on and back to 51%. Can't trust LCD screen. Battery isolator does not help. This is a very expensive yet unreliable unit. Do yourselves a favour buy a simple cheap battery box. You coul set up two for the same price...Read more

Great for camping, picnics and days on the beach!
Have been using this now for camping and other excursions for just over 2 years and it's never missed a beat. I purchased a good quality 100Ah AGM battery to go with it, along with the car charging kit. We've done more weekenders than I can count and 4, 2 to 3 week trips through the north west powering a fridge, lights, charging cameras, iPads, phones and a laptop.
At home, it's never off charge. Always left on float. In the car, I started out using the car kit although the lighter plug is absolutely useless and requires constant attention ...Read more
to ensure it's working properly. I changed the plug and it's been fine ever since. Having said that, I've since gone away from using the car kit and now use a DCDC charger in the car so I can charge at 25A. This is great if you've been camped up for a few days with no charging and are only traveling a relatively short distance to your next stop (1 to 2 hours) . As for the inverter, I've read a lot of people having problems with it and spoken to a few out on the tracks that are in the same boat. What I've found is that the majority of these people are not aware of the limitations of the built in inverter and believed they could plug any appliance into it as though they're at home. It's only 150 or 300w depending on the model you've bought. That's enough to run very small appliances and charge laptops but it won't run a microwave, a hair dryer, an iron, a kettle or a coffee machine. It simply doesn't have the capacity to do that. The built in smart charger works well for standard lead acid batteries but I've found in time that it's actually not so great at charging AGMs. The charging profiles for all batteries except calcium, charge at pretty much the same volatages (14.4) and all float at 13.1v. To keep an AGM healthy, they need to be charged at 14.7 and floated at 13.6. I've recently changed to an external charger with the correct profiles and as a result have found I've been getting much better usage out of the battery. For solar, we use a portable 120watt panel with a built in regulator the plugs straight in to the Anderson plug. The smart charging system in the arkpak isn't used when charging like this but it does keep tabs on the charging process so you can see what's happening on the display.Similar opinion? Go for the Thunder Weekender - It's better and cheaper
There appears to be a problem with the inverter. I know of 3, including my own, that continually trip the fuse on 240v appliances. I got a refund from a very resistant store manager in Darwin (BCF) and went with the Thunder Weekender. The Weekender is a far super product in my opinion.

Get something else.
I've had my ark Pac for about 3 years now. It's still going but is my third unit. First unit the screen never worked out of the box took it back to bcf and they replaced entirely unit. About a year on lost another screen and was replaced by arc pac. Had problems with $100 dc charger which melted in the cigarette socket ark Pac said they would put another end on it. Not concerned about a melting adapter not good enough. Now won't chrg on 240. Just not worth the money.

An all inclusive design that is missing a few basic features.
I have recently bought my Arkpak 730 in the last 2 months. Whilst I have not tested its full range of capabilities, I do have a few positives and negatives about the product.
I bought this Arkpak as I live a little way out of town and needed something to ensure my fridge stayed cold after I had done the shopping or keeping products cold during the day whilst at work. I also needed it to be portable so I could put it into the 4wd to go camping. I liked the all-inclusive nature of the Arkpak in which a range of plugs and inverters all come in...Read more
one handy box without needing to wire 2 cars with 2 separate battery systems and I could also place it in the gazebo when camping and run a myriad of appliances off it. I do like the digital display and the smart charger allowing me to leave the battery plugged in at home on 240v and forget it for months on end. The first small issue I have is that the socket for which the smart charger plugs into feels very delicate and has on a number of occasions come out, which means the battery is not charging. A simple Anderson style socket would boost my confidence considerably knowing that there would be no way that the charger could accidently become unplugged. My biggest issue however, has been the marketing of the Arkpak as an all-inclusive dual battery system. The many videos that I have viewed show that the Arkpak can be charged 3 ways. One is to use either a solar panel or dual battery system to charge through either the Anderson plug or battery terminals, but you need a regulator as it by-passes the smart charger, this is understandable. The second method is to use either 240v or 12v power to charge it through the 'smart charger'. For the most part the smart charger does its job, allowing efficient management of the battery, but the biggest bee in my bonnet is the Arkpak's inability to detect low voltage from the cars cranking battery so that it doesn't run it flat. I find this slightly ridiculous for a "smart charger" seeing as most portable fridges have the ability to detect low voltage from the cranking battery and go into limp mode and this doesn't with a price tag of around $500. In my case, my CFX50 Waeco has three voltage options in which you can choose the fridge to go into limp mode and it has a simple display with simple programming. What this means is that if you choose to run the Arkpak in your car through the 12v power you either need to ensure you A) unplug it when the car has been switched off or B) ensure that either the cigarette plug you are using or have installed has either a relay on it that only allows power to be drawn when the ignition is on or run a dual battery wiring kit, essentially negating the all-inclusive dual battery system. This particular gremlin is hidden very cleverly through its marketing and is not mentioned anywhere except one sentence in the manual, albeit in bold.Similar opinion? amended review, working well on 12V
Below is my original review, have amended: 6 weeks ago we found a fantastic auto electrician who nutted out the wiring issues. Since then it didn't miss a beat, except that 240 is still completely unusable and the left 12V cig plug works better than the right. But found it charged well after that and had no issues keeping the fridge going for 3 weeks camping..

about 20+ fuses. We tried replacing battery, no change, won't run our 12V fridge, certainly looking for a better option. Would never recommend. Noted some purchasers very happy with their Ark packs and would have to query how much use it's had. Maybe we have a lemon but dispiriting when the company doesn't want to know about itSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
