Too many problems
I have had my Audi Q5 for 4 years now. After a few months of driving it, it was jerking on reverse and if you step on it on a highway, the car jerks. There is something wrong with the gear changing and the gearbox. I have brought it back to Audi 1/2 doz times and they were not able to find the fault. Wasting my time going back and forth trying to fix this problem. I had the same problem with my Audi A3 Cabriolet. I could not get rid of it fast enough.
All for looks for too many problems

Not all as it seems
I have a 2009 Audi Q5 2.0T Tiptronic. It is an awesome car to drive very comfortable and lots of extras. My issue is I have now done 216,000km (all highway miles) and the car uses 1ltr of 5/30w oil every 700km. Even when I first purchased the car it was using 1ltr every 1,200km. When I queried this I was told that it was acceptable however the reason it now requires oil more frequently is due to km travelled and age of the vehicle. at lights and once the jerk was so hard that the car stalled and I thought the car behind had hit me. I had the car serviced 7 days ago at the Audi dealer and mentioned the transmission issue. Was told all is OK and just a little wear and tear but no big problem. 2 days ago drove car to shops 15km away and car would not accelerate up any incline no matter how small. Drove the car home and when I switched it off if now won't start. I have had to have it towed 140km to the Audi dealer and just hoping the cost to repair is minimal (not to many 000's). So far no news and the dealer has had the car for 2 days. Even though a good car to drive when it is on the highway wouldn't buy another. Cheers

2010 Q5 stalling when cold
Purchased a Q5 in 2010. Over the last year the change down from 2nd to 1st gear is severe; like a jolt. In the last month the car has been stalling the engine when changing down. Would any know what the problem is and solution?
Overall I've been very happy with the car and would not hesitate to purchase another Audi.

Exactly the same problem with jerking and stalling
I have the same problem with a 2010 TD 2.0 that has done 220ks. Audi do not want to talk to me as the servicing has been done by others as well as Audi. As i pull up the car jerks forward, i can control it by slipping the car into manual just before stopping, this seems to confuse the gear box and the car does not jerk forward. The last time i spoke to Audi they told me that at 220ks the car is at the end of its life, really??? i have a 1996 Pajero that has done 550ks and it is still going, there comment, "yes but its a Pajero, not an Audi" arr...Read more
ogant people. Now the car comes up with a gear box malfunction when the car starts going up hills, i can again fool the gear box by going back into manual or stopping the car and restarting it. I told Audi with their service costs of between $1200 and $1500 per service and the amount of ks i do i would spend 1/2 the car on servicing and thats why i need to get accredited european service dealer (not an Audi one as they only do their own service).... Interesting they told me that if the car was serviced all the time at Audi then they probably would have fixed it for me FOC. Basically i would not buy an Audi again, trade in value of the Q5 now $8k, your kidding i can get that much for my Pajero, so it looks like i keep the Audi until it dies and then start putting bullet holes in it with my 22, just for the fun of it. Audi Q5 2009 just blew up
Audi sucks Audi Australia are worse again. Bought my Q5 4 years ago for $75,000 it is worth $0 today. I have had various problems with this car and through out the warranty period and I got the same treatment from Audi Australia where they were very reluctant to assist under warranty even. Now it is sitting at Audi Newcastle with a blown engine and a $10,000 price tag for repairs I will never buy an Audi ever again.

Love it!
I purchased my Q5 2.0 TDI when it first released in Australia 2009. I used to drive Pajero, so Q5 is kind of small for me. Beautiful driving experience, good handling and good soundproof (you wouldn't hear diesel engine noise in the car at all) Only disappointment I found is diesel engine seems has acceleration delay, you won't get respond after 2-3 second. No major problem for me, Audi Gold Coast is an excellent dealership, they take care of any issue and concern immediately. Fuel consumption for my car is around 9.9L/100Km, I only drive around locally to pick kids up from school and do grocery shopping :)
Interior comfort, reliable, compact.

How can it have such poor driving dynamics?
My wife bought her Q5 2.0 TD 2 years ago. Actually it is her second. The first was written of after an errant car ploughed into it after 1 month of ownership. My wife loves this car. I hate it with a passion.
The engine is a gem but the fly by wire / ECM decides how much & how fast throttle you can get.
Want to slip into that stream of traffic? Not in this car. The delay is palpable and when the car decides to move its winds up like a turbine. How this is was ever considered conducive to safe motoring is beyond me.

cars including other Audi's in my job & this is the worst thing to drive since their Q7 stop-start diesel. The Q5 is underpinned with excellently designed forged aluminium suspension. Considering that it rides on 17 inch alloys with generous 65 series rubber, it beats the hell out of me why the ride is so harsh & choppy. Spring & dampener rates much too high for an SUV, at least for Australia's roads. Dual clutch auto relies heavily on complex electronics to function smoothly. Shifts slow and unresponsive.I have driven the 3.0 TD and is much better. Don't get me wrong, I would love to like this car. The quality of the fit & finish of both the interior & exterior is amazing. The paintwork is flawless.3 comments

Excellent car
2011 q5 2.0 tfsi good on fuel. excellent safety features, only annoying thing is indicator lever wrong side of steering wheel . Good size for around town . Fast off the line with dual clutch auto . Sports mode hold gears a tad to long in deceleration . Overall good package . I would def recommend this car .

Dangerous Audi Q5
I have a 2009 Q5 3.0TDI, i have had a problem now for almost 6 months and getting nowhere with Audi fixing it. Unfortunately the problem is intermittent, and hard to find. When the car pulls to a stop i get a large jolt as though i have been hit from behind, then on occasions it stalls the motor. I had a very close call last Friday when the traffic lights changed to green just as i stopped, the car stalled and the big semi trailer coming up behind me had to lock up to avoid hitting me.

nything, i have contacted Audi Aust but all they did was ring the dealer, not once has the dealer or Audi Aust contacted me back to discuss the problem, i have had to do all the running, i get the usual line that i am the only person in the world that has a problem with the jolt and then the stalling, even though an Audi serviceman said he knew all about it and told me "feels like you have been hit from behind". I have read many forums where Audi drivers have described the same symptoms but not the stalling, either Audi are not telling the truth or they are living under a rock. My concern is that next time i might not be so lucky, I can imagine the lawyers having a field day with Audi as they have not been honest in trying to sort it out.3 comments
VWs and Audi do have grabbing brakes normally. Seems they cant be adjusted much! But yours sound a worry. A letter from a lawyer usually gets things moving! To both Audi and HQ. throw everything at em!

Great all rounder car for a small family.
Driven one for more then a year now.
Too many soft roaders with no character on the road these days. I feel the Audi Q5 offers unique styling and individuality especially with the 20 inch rims. The Q7 looks like an inflated Q5 and the proportions are all wrong.
Be prepared to pay more for service and insurance, but overall a very decent capable family car and refinement you would expect from a top notch european car.

Dream Machine
This is the most beautiful car I have ever driven. From the driver's seat, the large front window gives the impression you are in a helicopter. No key required to start - just push button (after using alarm to enter car). Push button handbrake! Front and rear car sensers making parking simple. Blue tooth connects to phone, including phone book. Nav man. Beautiful interior. Big boot space. Really considerate fit out. Love, love, love it!
Running on diesel - incredibly economic (I hate going to the petrol station, so I'm very happy).
Has been sluggish at the start of early mornings in Melbourne's freezing winter weather.

Nice machine but waiting list is 9 months + for goodness sake.
Audi don't tell you THAT when you put down the deposit.
Attention to detail.Quality of fittings.Dual clutch Gearbox.Adaptive cruise control is fantastic.Side assist.Head lights.
Price.Driver's seat keeps creaking when you brake.Can't close boot with remote.Radio can't be turned off so always comes on when you start the car.Nav out of date.Back seats don't move back to upright position electrically like cheap Nissan SUVs.

Hi everyone, could anyone tell me how much you paid for your timing belt/chain to be replaced at 90,000km or 180,000km, and if you got it done at Audi service centre or an independent mechanic.

Only Vbelt was replaced at 90,000km for our 3.0TDI. at AUDI dealership. price of vbelt itself was $108.00 and the whole standard scheduled service (part & labour) costed us $1,155.00. hope this helps.

erent driving conditions/ roads in ESP Europe and USA. May be Worse if first drive off road ! Fords Mazdas holdens &Toyotas are usually more involving Family cars (to drive ) in Oz. Can't stand the knuckle scraper when reaching into the centre bin! For phones/ devices - cant be removed!? Electronic handbrake...... V.v expensive former icing and optional extras esp. reverse camera (Should be standard anyway)
